Video: Palin’s got a fee-vah and the only prescription is more Hopenchange
posted at 8:02 pm on January 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
He used to pal around with terrorists but now he’s palling around with America! Five minutes of highlights from tonight’s Glenn Beck debut placing the ‘Cuda in the accommodationist camp with Tim Pawlenty and, presumably, any other governor who might need a bailout or two down the line. Note how she turns a question about Obama into an opportunity to plug people who don’t attend elite schools or have a title after their names. All part of the hockey mom/common man appeal, which Beck sets her up for a second time later with the question about Wendy’s.
Consider this a companion piece to this morning’s NYT story about Maverick becoming The One’s newest informal advisor. Commenters sneered at it in Headlines — surely we’re not about to trust the New York Times now, even though they’ve got Rahm Emanuel talking about this on the record — but CNN has sources in McCain’s own camp confirming the detail about Dennis Blair, at least. And on that note, here’s your photo of the day.

Coup de grace to Palinmania delivered. Congrats AP, mission accomplished.
joewm315 on January 19, 2009 at 8:04 PM
I listened to the interview and it didn’t come across quite like that. She sounded like she was going to fight for energy independence and assist in areas that she could agree on.
Nice try though !
stenwin77 on January 19, 2009 at 8:05 PM
I thought she was on record saying she wouldn’t ask for bailout money.
Wethal on January 19, 2009 at 8:05 PM
What do you expect her to do? Trash Obama? I think she’s playing it safe, as she should.
I liked her point about upper-echelon politians being removed from the worries of everyday life (pumping gas, buying diapers). It was a nice interview overall. Might tune into this show, it’s different.

I recommend everyone watch the full interview here, instead of Choppy McGee’s version:

Come on, AP, what do you want her to say? “That guy’s going down with a frown!” At least she still has the onions to set up some distance and diss his “tax cuts for 95% of the population” promise.

and she is also on the record, along with governors Sanford and Perry, that even more spending can cause the economy to collapse to the point of no return

I love AP and am cool with him being his own man– too many people give him crap for him not agreeing with them 100% of the time on their personal policy preferences– but yeah, this post is butt-misleading and cynical. Being nice in case of a bailout? That’s just projection. Come on.
Pasalubong on January 19, 2009 at 8:16 PM
I only made it to 2:45. I’ve heard quite enough from Palin.
progressoverpeace on January 19, 2009 at 8:16 PM
What is with all this talk about our “duty” to “support” the President? For as long as I’ve been alive, we’ve called our Presidents crooks, dumb jocks, peanut farmers, senile B-movie actors, patricians, philanderers, and chimps. Just because the President is half black doesn’t mean he is immune to making fun of him on a daily basis, if we desire.
Speedwagon82 on January 19, 2009 at 8:17 PM
Yeah you would think that AP might include Palin’s defense of capitalism in the headlines though

What do you expect from a former beauty queen and current mayor of Wasilla?
Ohhhhhh….Palin’s is NOT bashing Obarfy, ok then, she is now the respected governor of the great state of Alaska. And look how pretty she is, brains and beauty.
Libs utilize alien technology, they can change directions instantly with no ill effect.
Bishop on January 19, 2009 at 8:18 PM
Come on Allah. It didn’t go down like that. Palin voiced where she was in disagreement with Obama, but when asked if Obama was her President she said “yes”. What else is she going to say and not look like a whiner? It was a good interview for Palin, Beck barely got a word in edgewise.

GB offered us the deep insights of Joel Osteen today… and he followed that with an “analysis” of the great American “middle” (the “nasty” Americans being either the 15% on the left or right wings who won’t work with the other).
It was pathetic, sad, ignorant and typical.
He’s off to a terrible start on FNC.

Nice job on taking AP to task over his dishonesty, other commenters. I’ve grown bored with even trying. Hopefully if we all ignore his unhealthy obsession with her, he’ll stop posting about her. Not that I want to see less of her, but the kind of exposure AP is obsessed with giving her is just stupid….and dishonest.

She better do a REALLY good job at distancing herself from the socialistic policies rolling down from Mt. Obamapus.

MsUnderestimated on January 19, 2009 at 8:27 PM
typo… “that’s NOT how I heard her.” I didn’t see her as fawning at all for hope & change; in fact, she blatantly said she disagrees with a lot of his policies.
MsUnderestimated on January 19, 2009 at 8:28 PM
She needs to lose the glasses… and the colloquialisms.
Is there anybody out there who will make the conservative argument and point out the DANGER that is represented by the positions for which Obama has ALREADY expressed support. You’ll pay a price today, but you will be well-placed when the Right (and the nothing) starts looking for a viable option.
Do I support BHO? Only if he will support ideas consistent with liberty, the Constitution and American exceptionalism. Apart from that, why should I support him?

MsUnderestimated on January 19, 2009 at 8:30 PM
I think I’m safe in assuming that that’s a typo and you meant President and not Precedent. What you suggest may be what some people would like to say to Obama, but no politician is going to say that on the eve of his inauguration. She answered a question graciously, and in basically the same manner that she’s answered similar questions since the election.

What is she supposed to do – miracle her eyesight into 20/20 condition? I’m no ophthalmologist, but my guess, based on the appearance of her lenses, is that she’s farsighted and/or has astigmatism. Those are problems that can’t really be corrected with Lasik and contacts aren’t good at correcting them either. The glasses are a part of her image, anyhow.
And should she start speaking in a BCC-style diction? She is the way she is and she talks the way she talks. It comes across as genuine (and I don’t think it’s an act).
Jim62sch on January 19, 2009 at 8:35 PM
“bringing everyone together” and “promise” = reelection
“umbrella” = that Rihanna song and only defending ourselves and our allies AFTER a nuclear attack
For a while there, she rambled and I blanked out. She’s got those crazy eyes today, too.
Blah blah the wife and the “beautiful strong daughters” = McCain-style concessions that elite prep schools, a good bit of your life attending a racist church and terrorists babysitting your kids are as American as apple pie.

I watched the interview – first time I turned my TV on today by the way. She did what she had to do in the beginning to say she would work to help him promote the energy independence. She went on to say that she will fight against any tendency of him to move the Country away from what she believes in. She’s the real deal. If she would have come out with blazing guns against the guy before he does anything, that would have been reckless. I thought it was a good interview actually, except that Glenn Beck is another Huckabee from what I can see. I have never listened to him before. He’s like Boortz – tries to be but really isn’t. Hannity is moving that way too – way too worried about ratings. Rush, Levin and Coulter are the only ones that speak out and don’t give a you know what about how they feel – they just believe in what they say. That’s why they are the “ones”.

chunderroad on January 19, 2009 at 8:50 PM
There are currently three states operating in the black:
Mark Sanford’s South Carolina;
Rick Perry’s Texas; and
Sarah Palin’s Alaska.
Not only is Alaska currently in the black, Sarah is on record that she will not request funding for any special projects from a stimulus package. Begich freaked when he heard this.
Also, Alaska actually banked money for a rainy day when oil prices were high. If there is a line forming for handouts from “The One,” Palin, Perry, and Sanford have no need to be in it. AP must have them confused with O’Malley, Schwarzenegger, Corzine, and Patterson.
One other thing, despite her reputation to the contrary, Sarah is not naturally inclined to play the “hatchet[woman].” That’s not how she governs Alaska, and she didn’t get 90% approval ratings ranting and raving like a madwoman. She will always be the “good cop” to Rush, Ann, and Levin’s “bad cops.” It would be a mistake to intepret her good nature for weakness or lack of belief in conservatism. Sarah is far more savvy and subtle than her critics will ever give her credit for. She’s not a red meat machine the way some others are.
Did you like the subtle dig at Fey when she pointed out the natural wonders “you can see over my shoulder?” Brilliant stuff.
Nat Hound on January 19, 2009 at 8:51 PM
Maybe a 50,000 word essay on all of the reasons why AP hates Sarah Palin and just be done with it would work out best?
I watched this interview live. Whatever the point you’re trying to make here — and that point really is not very clear other that to sneer at her — the comments do not jibe with the interview content.
