Video: Celebrities moved by new spiritual leader to become better people
posted at 5:21 pm on January 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via the Standard. If ever you doubted that Obamamania is fundamentally a religious movement, at least among nitwits like this, watch and note how few of their pledges are tied to Obama’s policy agenda. It’s mostly personal pap about smiling more and being a better parent, forms of self-improvement which, it seems, simply couldn’t be undertaken until the GOP was out of the White House.
And as always with these things, it’s about five times too long.
Update: “We’re all Americans — NOW.”

So we have Jesus Fish on the back of cars, what will Obama have? A Fish with a dollar insignia in the middle?
This Obama spiritualism will only lead to ultimate failure. This sounds like Jonestown Kool-Aid to me.

Can’t see the video from work, but I saw some excerpts of this on TV this morning. One person they showed seemed to “get it”… he said something like how he would finally feel like an American, rather than an African-American.
malclave on January 19, 2009 at 5:27 PM
What’re you talking about? Obama already wants you to join his church. Just saw a very slick ad with him wanting us to stand up and “do our part” and join usaservice.org …
If you get through to the “volunteer service” events page you’ll be treated to pages upon pages of “inauguration” parties.
That’s Obama’s view of *service*.

My sister-in-law says Obama’s neo-religious following could be the leading edge of the false prophet showing up on the scene.

Larry Sinclair. Whoopsie! Did I say that? My bad.
LtE126 on January 19, 2009 at 5:36 PM
That gets waaaay creepy (ok, creepier) towards the end when Demi Moore pledges to serve our president. Nice to know all this was impossible under Bush. Why? Because these celebrities are infantile morons, that’s why. Oh, and I like the one who pledges to plant 500 trees. I call BS right there. These tools wouldn’t know which end of the shovel to dig with. Maybe she can pay Algore’s company to plant them for her, that’s just as good, right?

Exactly. If all of these “pledges” mean so much to these people, then they have no excuse for waiting for Obama’s marching orders.
Yes, now that Obama’s been elected. In four years, he may start putting the “African” back in his grouping title.

But from what I gather, these people all regret their useless, unhelpful lives, and now they are going to start doing more of the things the rest of us have been doing all along?
Alana on January 19, 2009 at 5:46 PM
If they are serious about this, let them sell their mansions in Hollywood or Hyde Park, buy a modest middle class home and give the entire profit to these causes. Further, they should only keep enough of their incomes to support their new modest lifestyles and donate the rest. Anything short of that from a leftist is pure hypocrisy.

Does this mean that conservatives can finally ease up on giving disproportionately more money to charity, disproportionately more time to worthy causes, disproportionately more strictness to parenting, disproportionately more honesty and thoughtfulness to life, and disproportionately more patriotism to country, now that liberals have pledged to take up the slack?
calbear on January 19, 2009 at 5:51 PM
Not sure of the guy, but when he pledged to call himself American and not African-American, that caught my attention.
The rest of it was generalistic. At the end, it kind of reminded me of the ending of Superfriends theme:”To right that which is wrong and to serve all mankind.”
Otherwise, as some have said, this is wierd and completely and totally useless. You only do this since obama is in office. Just think of where we would have been had you put forth this much effort when the GOP was in office.

Also. you are being very disingenuous thinking they are talking about an Egyptian girl when they say “slavery” What these idiots , whom have never been into a black neighborhood or live within an hour drive from a black guy, are saying that blacks are Slaves today, because white racism prohibits them from succeeding in life. When in fact it is only “they” who are responsible for said Slavery
Regardless – Since obama is black we must respect him, and not say anything bad about him or less we are racist. Hense SNL doesn’t mock him, and if they do its mild compared to… Bush or Coulter :P

You don’t need to trivialize slavery. It does still exist and is nothing compared to paying taxes to a government that uses those taxes on those who pay none.

RE: Pledging to “end slavery in the world” …
Thuja makes a great point that most of the world’s existing slavery takes place under the umbrella of Islam.
Also, they ignore the fact that putting the United States in trillions of dollars of debt for all these programs effectively makes us and our children and grandchildren slaves of our own government. We will have to work to feed the national debt first and our children second, and this will go on for generations. We will be jailed if we do not pay our taxes, but we will have our children taken away by the government if we do not feed them. That is not freedom. That is slavery.

A quote from Ashton’s Blog regarding serving THE ONE:
I had to laugh at this and wonder how willing Ashton and Demy would be in giving up jet-setting around the world, or leaving their 10,000 sq ft mansion for a more modest say 2000 sq ft home that wouldn’t consume so much energy and would be much more environmentally friendly?
Seriously, lets see just how much he and his wife would be willing to “sacrifice” for THE ONE!
AP and HA should take note of Ashton saying this and be sure to throw it in his face once this whole Obama-adoration calms down. I won’t hold my breath that Ashton or Demy will make these sacrifices or many other and when they don’t those with the means to do so (ahem…HA!) should hold them up for their deserved ridicule!

I’m 100% positive if obama wasn’t black then the Slavery comment would not of been made… so yes they are talking about Blacks.
2nd – I’m now an American not just an African-American – pretty sure that has to do with obama being black too… so…
For African-Americans to even suggest they are still in “slavery” is ridiculous with all the “united negro fund” and other organizations that give money and entitlements based sole on the color of your skin.
And seeing that we “Lost” the war in Iraq and Afghanistan 2 years ago according to the “one” i don’t think he was talking about Islam’s slavery over women, since Bush was evil and wrong to go into those countries.
