Spike Lee: Tomorrow’s the most important day in American history

posted at 1:29 pm on January 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

Insight from a man who once believed, and maybe still does, that AIDS was a conspiracy to kill blacks. He saved this newest revelation for the right network, too: Here’s Obama supporter James Poniewozik, writing at Time about MSNBC’s absurdly breathless Obamapalooza ads.

On one of its incessantly running Inauguration Day promos, a narrator gushes, “When a new President inspires the nation, one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

Besides the confusing timeline of that sentence, there’s something almost bludgeoningly hortatory about it. Mind you, I voted for Barack Obama enthusiastically, in the primaries and the general election–and yet hearing stuff like this (Obama = The Moon Landing) I can empathize with the people who didn’t.

Refresh my memory if I’m forgetting something, but when President Bush was inaugurated in 2001, I don’t remember promos this blatantly triumphalist even on Fox News. It passive-aggressively defies you to disagree with it, as it asserts that this guy who hasn’t even been sworn in yet will undeniably be an inspirational, nay, an historic figure. Even if you didn’t vote for him, you have to admit that Jan. 20 will be a truly amazing day. Right? You have to admit it, right? Well, admit it!

The difference between 2001 and now: Unlike Bush, Obama is an avatar heaven-sent to save America, a point made before by Lee and reaffirmed here with his theory of whose invisible hand was pushing the economy off a cliff in September. Exit question: Is anyone not watching MSNBC’s coverage of the inauguration tomorrow, just to see how obsequious they’ll be? I expect nothing less than tears from Matthews and an intimation from Olby that we’re seeing providence unspool before our very eyes. Click the image to watch.

Tomorrow’s the most important day in American history

Arguably, one of, but perhaps not in the way Mr. Lee suggests.

When a new President inspires the nation, one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

I was hiding my money and gun.

1-20-08 i shall weep for the future rape of my wallet by PEBO and his minions.

Mojack420 on January 19, 2009 at 1:34 PM

I think that the whole Civil War thing, the whole WWII thing, the whole Revolutionary War thing, 9/11, etc. were more important. It is a nice testament to how far we’ve come though.

Illinidiva on January 19, 2009 at 1:35 PM

one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

I’ll be at home preparing to go to work – like every other weekday. Tomorrow will be historic only because of the hype. Obama will never be able to live up to the hype. (didn’t want to say expectations because no one who voted for him has any expectations for his presidency)

Tommy_G on January 19, 2009 at 1:35 PM

July 4, 1776.

Wethal on January 19, 2009 at 1:35 PM

“When a new President inspires the nation, one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

I will answer: “At Cabelas, stocking-up on guns and ammo.”

The next question will be easy too, “So what was it like back then when you were allowed freedom of speech and to keep part of what you earned?”

It was awesome, grandchild, it was awesome.

“When a new President inspires the nation, one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

Kind of like “where were you when JFK was assassinated?” or “where were you on 9/11?”

Count to 10 on January 19, 2009 at 1:36 PM

I’ll be honest.

I haven’t had the stomach to watch any political news coverage since the election.

It’s not that I can’t deal with opposing view points. I just don’t see anything of merit in most of the network coverage. There’s just no “there” there.

I sincerely hope it’s not going to be 4-8 years of this adoration. At some point, the press will remember their whole “adversarial press” role and start digging for information, right?

JadeNYU on January 19, 2009 at 1:36 PM

I shall remain bitterly clinging…

sabbott on January 19, 2009 at 1:36 PM

Yes…I agree with Spike.

July 4, 1776 pales in comparison. In fact, I’ll suggest that the history books be modified to state that Independence Day was but a waypoint on the journey that is Obama.

Other than that, I think October 19, 1961 is pretty darn ‘portant, too!

BobMbx on January 19, 2009 at 1:36 PM

Hail Caesar.

The most important day in American history has already happened and that was July 4th, 1776. Spike Lee needs to go away now and cozy up to his new master.

They’re called “liberals without books.”

Liberals with a complete and total absence of understanding of history.

E.g., Bush’s actions, according to liberal critics, are a great violation of American traditions.

Except, of course, for those actions done by FDR and Wilson and Lincoln. Which make Bush look like a boyscout.

But why let history ruin your parade?

Insight from a man who once believed, and maybe still does, that AIDS was a conspiracy to kill blacks.

This is also what the rev Wright is on record saying, that the government is lying about creating AIDS to kill black folk. And when Obama fails to come out and say that the government created AIDS to kill blacks, will Wright and others denounce Obama for being a traitor and defending the evil white man government?

True dat, but it gets in the way of lefties revising history to meet its agenda that the “American Empire” has throughout history been evil and must fall!

Liberty or Death on January 19, 2009 at 1:51 PM

I was talking with someone last week during my work. they were going on and on about the inauguration. All I said was, “I hadn’t really been following it.” Suddenly, it was like i was the enemy. “You haven’t been following it? the most historical event of our time and you haven’t been following it?”
I just replied, “Right, I haven’t been following it.”
The person was dumbfounded and suddenly, I could sense,, seemed suspicious if me. It was like we were in China in the 60′s and I forgot about flag day or something. I think this person went looking into the yellow pages to see if there was a hotline to report people who weren’t showing enough “Obama Zeal.”
I have said it before,,, at some point Obama will have to actually do something,, make actual decisions, not just give speeches, as President. The world keeps moving on and stops for no one. Let the libs have their party for now,, as they did for the Clinton’s. A lot of this stuff is really not that different than when the Clinton’s were elected.
It is more intensified,, but it is really closely identical to when they were elected. Doesn’t anyone remember??
I remember the Clinton’s using one of the monuments for their inauguration,, putting a red carpet down the marble stairs and coming out from between the pillars with trumpets blowing ,,, it was like the were Roman gods or something. Same stuff.
Obama has done nothing but smoke cigs, given speeches and run campaigns. He has to govern now. He has to be responsible. Even if he doesn’t want to be,, the people at some point will hold him responsible. Giving nice speeches, taking the shirt off and body surfing can only go so far.

The media is just plain making sh*t up. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with the 22nd Amendment nonsense. What will that slogan be? Instead of ‘Gangster 4 life’; maybe they could try ‘Obama 4 life’…or ‘Hussein 4 life’. What fun.

Tomorrow, my husband and I will be working as usual. My kids will be in school, however if they are forced to watch this ridiculous footage, I will be picking them up and bringing them home. They can then play in the 10 foot snowbanks outside our house, which are there because of the devastating globull warming we’ve been experiencing.

Then, tomorrow night, my husband will spend a few hours reloading his ammo and organizing his many guns.

When a new President inspires the nation, one day Americans will ask: where were you when Barack Obama became President?”

Judas H. Priest, how about we wait until he actually does something???

I’m really getting tired of people just assuming that everyone voted for and/or is orgasmically extatic about the Boy Emperor’s innaguration. 47% of the voters did not vote for him, and with low Conservative turnout this past year I wouldn’t be surprised if less than 50% of regestered voters actually voted for him. Case in point – tonight is “Yes We Can” night on CBS, and all their cast photos of all their shows are done up like the Obama campaign posters. I’m really getting freaking sick of it.

Newsflash, Libs. NOT EVERYONE IS SNOWED BY THIS GUY!!!
