Enough of this whining, you racist, un-patriotic, bigot!!!

“We had students at bus stops longer than we think is acceptable, and that’s too dangerous in these types of temperatures,”

Last week, THE ONE announced that everyone was going to need to sacrifice. Didn't you realize that he meant the Chilllldruun, too?

My question is why are the kids standing that long in the freezing cold anyway? Who is still in the warm house sipping coffee or something! It does not even get really cold here but many a mornings during the winter months I go down to the bus stop with my kid and if the bus does not come on time I pile in the car as many kids as legal and get their butts to school! The parents know this and all they do is say "Ugh, thanks".
Hopefully the kids will return the favor when they get to be big kids.

Well, you do realize you are talking about the Great State of Minnesota who gave us Jesse Ventura and is about to steal a Senate seat from Norm Coleman to give it to the ever so kind and funny Stuart Smalley a.k.a. Al Franken.

So what do you expect? Buses that run on gasoline or what?

As a truck driver this is one of the big fears that we have during brutally cold winters like this one. Using additive when it gets below 10 degrees usually keeps us in the clear. Just one gallon of additive for each 100 gallons of fuel keeps the freight moving. Never used the Bio D and thankful!

And let's not forget Governor Jesse Ventura. Weird how lib states seem to be selecting their governors from castmembers of the movie "Predator."

Next New Jersey governor: Carl Weathers

Does the school district have good liability insurance? The district knew of the problem as it did request an exemption. I see a creative plaintiff attorney making a few bucks with this.

So we'll have fewer Al frankenfurter voters in the future due to biodeisel flaws. Is that such a baaad thing? Anyway, global warming will make Minnesota like Florida by the end of Obama's presidency, so this is just a minor hiccup on the glorious road to green socialism.

Lots of Arctic diesel used to be shipped to Canada via ship from Texaco, Port Arthur, TX. All they did was load a ratio, which I forget, of naphtha and diesel which the ship would just pump from tank to tank to blend it on the voyage around the east coast and up the St. Lawrence.

Using biodiesel for the reasons liberals like (e.g. fighting “global warming”) is absurd, but I am a fan of biodiesel for what I think are valid reasons: first, reducing our dependence on OPEC, and second, because petroleum is non-renewable and eventually will run out. Second, I think there’s something really empowering about being able to grow your own fuel in your back yard rather than having to transport it from some far away place like Texas or Alaska. So, I don’t oppose the use of bio-fuel. I do think it’s absurd that their state refused to let the buses refuel with petro-diesel (diesel engines can use either fuel). And I’m glad to learn about the high freezing temperature of diesel, that’s something I didn’t know about.

joe_doufu on January 19, 2009 at 4:04 PM
I am also a proponent of Bio Deisel when it is the appropriate solution. It's ironic that people in charge of educating children didn't do the appropriate research about bio deisel's reaction to super low temperatures. Personally, I blame G W Bush./s
I think one wrong headed approach to 'solving' our energy problems is to believe in such a massive nation as the US we can have one solution.
Wind may make sense from Texas up into the Great Plains (saw a Map on Pickens depicting the areas with strong consistent wind)
Bio Deisel could be a solution in warmer parts of the country
Obviously, solar works better in Arizona than Minnesota too. Ed, should we call someone up there on the School Board before they outfit the buses with those big black solar cell screens?

All you have to do is put your oil-based salad dressing in the refrigerator overnight. Everyone knows what happens . . . you have to let it warm up a bit before using it. THE OIL COAGULATES. Idiots.

I have always lived below the Mason/Dixon line. We had a GM diesel in the 1980's. If you did not use special diesel or use a additive, the car would get about 5 miles from home and die. This happen to us in Maryland and North Carolina. Just because you live in a area that does not usually get cold, does not mean it will not. I was raised in Atlanta, GA. One day it got so cold, the natural gas line coming into our house froze.

No! MaYbe the Panzer I, II, or early III's. It was American Tanks that used gasoline until the M24 and M26 arrived.

Germans and Russians both used diesel. There were other problems too. Extreme cold causes grease in transmissions to become so thick that it stiffens the tranny into uselessness. Ethylene glycol and alcohol have their limits. The Germans may have been forced to stretch the anti-freeze and not have the extra low temperature protection. The Germans may also have run out of the additives that keep diesel flowing at low temps.

The school system and the State are arguing over the problem. The state says the school system allowed water into the fuel.

To liberal environmentalists who want the government to dictate all things, people are bad and the planet is good. You are lucky they do not make the children walk to school in the 1st place in order to minimize global warming. It does not matter if a few peasant children freeze as long as the Central State Planning Bureau is kept safely in charge.

The state does too good of a job in clearing roads and getting kids on the bus to let it interfere with their education.

And yet the products of that school system elected Al Franken. Do us a favor, MN, let the kids stay home when it gets bad.

I've had first hand experience with government "experts". Not only was I not impressed, but I was actually surprised to find out how stubborn an (idiotic) engineer, that is used to having subordinates bow to his will/mandates, can be in seeing their errors. I had a good 1.5 hour long shouting match with one letting him know that he didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground before he finally submitted and came back with, "Well, I never thought there was a problem in the first place, we just needed someone to play devil's advocate on the matter". Suffice it to say, if a government bureaucrat thinks the solution is (A), then I'm certain that its not.

Down here in Florida, I have a friend that uses Bio-diesel. He was using it because when gas got up over $4/gal, he could get biodiesel cheaper. However, there is almost no chance that temps will get down to -10F here...
