Canada refuses to admit noted terrorist/friend of president
posted at 3:30 pm on January 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
No word on why. I wonder if his membership in a violent terrorist group had something to do with it.
“I don’t know why I was turned back,” Ayers said in an interview this morning from Chicago. “I got off the plane like everyone else and I was asked to come over to the other side. The border guards reviewed some stuff and said I wasn’t going to be allowed into Canada. To me it seems quite bureaucratic and not at all interesting … If it were me I would have let me in. I couldn’t possibly be a threat to Canada.”…
[Jeffrey Kugler, executive director of the Centre for Urban Schooling,] waited for five hours at the Toronto Island airport for Ayers. He was with a lawyer, but the border guard refused to allow Ayers to see the lawyer.
“The entire four or five hours he was not allowed to have representation at all. To me this is an issue of academic freedom. He could not be a threat to anyone ever. Anyone who knows anything about this man – he’s a distinguished scholar at the University of Illinois and he has been involved in education reform over the past 15 years. To imagine in any way he was a threat to Canada is really absurd.”
What’s he doing in Toronto the day before the inauguration, anyway? Surely this respected educator, community activist, and pillar of liberal Chicago society is someone Barack Obama would want front and center for his big moment. Kindly Reverend Wright is in town, in fact, although there’s no word yet on whether he’ll be at the festivities or confined to the basement the way he was when this train first got rolling two years ago. Exit quotation: “[C]ivilian Palestinians … are systematically stamped out by a military machine second to none.”

Often this statement is an oxymoron…as in this case.
People have a different view as to what “distinguished” means…Ida Amin had a distinguished presidency, as did Stalin…Jane Fonda had a “distinguished” career, as did Abbey Hoffman…Ayers distinguished himself by calling for the death of innocent people, and was complicit in the acts of killing innocent people…he was distinguished because often his people were inept, thus killing themselves…

Since when did people being detained at border checkpoints ask for and/or receive legal counsel? He wasn’t being charged or arrested, simply told he could not enter another country.
Is there anything liberals don’t think lawyers and/or government can’t fix?

Steven Harper, you magnificent bastard!
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on January 19, 2009 at 3:39 PM

Hey moron! No one has the right to enter another country. No one. The good people manning the perimeter are paid to be a little uptight about keeping crap-weasels like Ayers out. Having said that, I’d have no problem with them looking the other way when I come home with a few more cigars than I’m allowed….

Hmm. Sounds more sarcastic than celebratory to me.
Disturb the Universe on January 19, 2009 at 3:41 PM
As someone who lives right up next to the Canadian border, I assure you that you can be denied entry for even the slightest of offenses. I know one gentleman who had a DUI in 1975 and was refused entry in 2006. If you have ANYTHING in your background at ANYTIME, it’s a crap shoot on whether you will be allowed or denied.
wccawa on January 19, 2009 at 3:41 PM
Oops, double negative. s/b “liberals think lawyers and/or govt. can’t fix.”
And, what does this event have to do with “academic freedom?”
cs89 on January 19, 2009 at 3:41 PM
But, but, cant you see the aura of Obama on him. How can you deny the right of this man to enter the country? Do you not understand he is one of the disciples.

Wow. First Canada stands with Israel ( http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/13/go-canada/ ) and now this. Are our neighbors to the North moving with Europe to the right, while we are moving to the left?

clinker46 on January 19, 2009 at 3:45 PM
Heh. I’m picturing him setting up camp in the cold just outside the checkpoint building…I’m thinking that the guards probably wouldn’t want him around though since there’s always the possibility that he would try to blow it up in protest.

“The Centre for Urban Schooling” sounds like it should have “People’s” in its title somewhere. Ayers could only be going up there to stir up stink.
I admit to irrationality in his case; I’ve hated that cowardly pos for 40 years now.

During his active Weatherman terrorist days wasn’t Ayers roaming around in Canada trying to avoid the U.S. authorities? Perhaps they have some stuff on Ayers that makes him an undesirable….
albill on January 19, 2009 at 3:52 PM
The Canadians are fighting back against liberalism. They have recognized that one out of five canadians are affected by mental illness. Since the Conservatives have gained power of the government thye have tried to recover their country from the insanity of liberalism. We will do the same thing, but as always, we will have to let them take us to rock bottom to wake us up.

I wish Ayers would go to Washington, D.C….could you imagine the HOPE that he doesn’t CHANGE his mind about being a reformed terrorist….
HornetSting on January 19, 2009 at 4:05 PM
What most people don’t know is that the military likes to wait until you’re out for a year, have your life somewhat reestablished, then call you back.
In fact, most of the guys they’re calling back are injured beyond repair, and have already been multiple times. Meanwhile, people now are signing up with 2 year stabilization plans to keep them from going to war.
So now what happens is you have a bunch of kids who are cowards signing up, and letting those of us that have been once, twice, 3 and 4 times, did our time and got out honorably, be forced back in against our will, destroy lives and progress that we’ve gained after a year of being out of the military.
Think about this before you come down on AWOL military. Yes, some of them are cowards that are avoiding war, others are hardened veterans that simply don’t want to go back and fight a war that they will most certainly lose and die in vain under an Obama Regime.
It’s one thing to die for your country and freedom. It’s another thing to die for a man that will probably end up being a dictator.
leetpriest on January 19, 2009 at 4:07 PM
Sad thought.
beththebaker on January 19, 2009 at 4:08 PM

Canada’s laws are a bit different, they consider a DUI closer to a felony than a misdemeanor like we do. So if you’ve got one, or any offence worse, you have to apply for something called a “ministers permit” through your local Canadian Embassy. And believe me, it is low on the priority list for the officers reviewing cases, so they can take litterally years to be granted just for a one time trip. I’m not surprised this arrogant pos tried to just waltz in. And not surprised he was refused.

Liberty or Death on January 19, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Canada let in thousands of people who could conceivably actually be terrorists from the Middle East, yet they turn away a Caucasian American terrorist.
I don’t get it. Either they finally got a clue, or they really hate Americans that much. OTOH, Ayers obviously hates America that much himself, so he and Canada should have been a match made in heaven. Unless, like I said, the Canadians finally got a clue.
Kudos to the Canadians, regardless. I can’t think of one single person more deserving of such scorn and rejection, other than perhaps Jane Fonda.
KendraWilder on January 19, 2009 at 4:53 PM
Ambassador to Canada? Diplomatic passport? It’s no guarantee. Canada can declare anyone “persona non grata.” A country does not have to allow a two-bit terrorist in as an ambassador.

Folks.. keep an eye on billy bomber. Maybe obama wants to keep his blackberry so he can keep in touch with dirtballs like billy boy and forkie his wife without going through the whitehouse switchboard.
Gee, take the blackberry out on the back porch when he goes out for a smoke and speedial 666. “Hey bill, got those re-education camps ready to go???”
Anyway, he launched his carreer in ayer’s home. I don’t think there is any distance between obama and ayers.
One more random thought… obama is trying to clear customs in Canada… “Well it seems you are friends with a terrorist eh… Bugger off mate” (or whatever the canadians would say)
