Video: World’s biggest celebrities honor world’s biggest celebrity

posted at 8:17 pm on January 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

The clip barely scratches the surface; click here and just keep scrolling. And to think, MM was worried that the inauguration might turn a bit schlocky.

Estimated price tag: $150 million and counting, enough to finally raise an eyebrow among The One’s media base. I trust you’ll agree, though, that Bono’s pearls of wisdom make it all worthwhile. As for Springsteen, as always, his facial expressions are more eloquent than mere words.

Well, $150mil aint nothin.

Good ol W managed to add around $5 tril to the national debt. I’m not sure about you, but I don’t like seeing over 8% of the federal budget going to pay interest on the debt. After all, much of that interest is being collected by foreign governments and is not returning to the states.

I’d rather get an 8% tax cut.

foreverright on January 19, 2009 at 1:10 AM

Just you wait, foreverright.

The Messiah wants to implement socialised medicine, increase spending whilst decreasing taxes, and in general spend a crapstorm of money on a bunch of social programs without explaining HOW he’s gonna get this money.

You think this deficit is bad? Wait ’til the Messiah is done!

OK, here’s a question. Is there a list anywhere of movie stars, tv stars, directors, singers, etc who are conservative?

I saw an article by Breitbart the other day about his new website, “Big Hollywood” and he talked about the importance of conservatives making a dent in popular culture. I agree, but I need to know who these people are so that I can go out of my way to support their efforts. I just assume that, with a few exceptions (Jon Voight, Robert Duval, Gary Sinese, etc), they are all liberal.

Honestly, just because someone is liberal does not mean I won’t see their movies. There are a handful who I won’t watch under any circumstances because they are so obnoxious (Penn, Robbins, Sarandon, Clooney, Streisand and a few others). But, seriously, as far as I’m concerned Hollywood only puts out about 5 movies per year that my wife and I are even remotely interested in seeing. If I knew who some Hollywood Conservatives were, I would make a special effort to support them.

Beyonce performed at the Lincoln Memorial for Bush II (after Florida, no less) and for Obama.

YYZ on January 19, 2009 at 2:19 AM

James Woods, Kelsey Grammer, Pat Sajak (not an actor but not a moron). There are a couple off the top of my head.

Jeff on January 19, 2009 at 2:20 AM

I am just not going to watch TV for the next four years and hope it will all just go away.

Irenaeus on January 19, 2009 at 2:30 AM

I am going to throw my TVs out the window.

I can’t take it anymore.

Adam Sander donated to Rudy I believe. The great Frank Miller (300, Sin City, Sin City 2, The Spirit) supports the Iraq War.

V15J on January 19, 2009 at 5:01 AM

Gary Sinise has played for the troops with the “Lt. Dan Band” and Drew Carey has made at least one trip to the middle east to perform comedy for the troops. Check out the cast of “An American Carol” on IMDB.com. Even if they might not all be die-hard conservatives (I don’t know if all of them are or not), at least they had the guts to appear in this film.

To assume that the opinion of some celebrity is valuable suggests that the opinions of common folk have less intrinsic value. Yes, the cameras flock around them so they have a ready forum for their pronouncements. So what? Are we so shallow a society that we cannot formulate our own opinions but need the comforting blanket of a Tom Hanks endorsement?
In light of mounting evidence to the contrary I still believe in the rugged individualism that built this country. A flock of sheep would never have crossed the Mississippi or moved westward to find a greener pasture and a better future.
I may be more comfortable standing in a herd, but I will eventually cease to be me. Good or bad, I will keep my own council, thanks.

I don’t remember there being a celebration for Bush. Was there?

I had already planned to throw the video on my blog on Tuesday. I can’t think of a more appropriate song to describe what I’ve seen in the last year.

Are we so shallow a society that we cannot formulate our own opinions but need the comforting blanket of a Tom Hanks endorsement?

Yes.

We’re also, in general, a nation of whiners, but don’t dare call us that.

Snowed In on January 19, 2009 at 7:43 AM

The earnest Bono is the square Bono, just like the raging liberals of the last eight years have suddenly become the credulous, susceptible liberals of the next eight years. I’m not sure I even understand his pap that America is done “being only for America”. Who else should we be for again? The UN? Africa?

Stick to music, Bono; although admittedly that train had already sailed for U2 a few years ago.

Laserjock on January 19, 2009 at 7:58 AM

Obama and Bush, the House, and the Senate are stealing taxpayer money and giving out to big business, and we have no say in the matter, thus putting our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on for generations, in deep debt, and making the US vulnerable to collapse.

We are homeless, unemployed, and starving to death, and the President Elect is spending $150,000,000 on a party?

Hope and Change.

Hope and Change.

Hope and Change.

Hope and Change.

William2006 on January 19, 2009 at 8:11 AM

$150,000,000 is a drop in the old bucket compared to what is coming, hope everyone enjoys THE NEW UNITED STATES OF WHATEVER. Who is Bono or is that boned?

foxone on January 19, 2009 at 8:14 AM

Ugh. That was sickening. I think I’m going to go read my Bible now…

Aronne on January 19, 2009 at 8:22 AM

The only way things are ever going to change is to deny the vote to those that are a net drain on society. They the libs (and rinos) have allowed enough liberal immigration to tip the scales so that conservatives will never have a majority again. Only if we allow only those paying the way, defending the country, or providing jobs to vote will that change. Otherwise why would they work if they can vote themselves into our pockets.

rgranger on January 19, 2009 at 8:56 AM

You know I have been waiting for Sully’s interview on the Today show (unless I missed it already and Allah/Ed have not posted yet his interview for me to read).

I suspect most will agree with me, that even though the TV is in the kitchen not watched by anybody it sounds sooo much like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade!!!

I am not gonna watch the vid, because Bono has no clue of what America stands for, what we are, our history (even with this huge misstep) and whatever we do as a country gets shoved in the trunk just because we elected this copycat MLK empty suited jerk to be our POTUS.

I consider it a serious lack of judgment, sky-high ego to compare myself to an ex-president. It is contradictory to be on one part the new, the first and then look at the past and pretend to be compared to an ex-president.

It’s like desecration of the Steelers’ Terrible Towel. Times 3!!!!!! Hey, who in this thread is gonna pass the drinks, jello shots and whatnot whenever he mentions “hope” and change”?

ProudPalinFan on January 19, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Forgot to ask, if anybody knows (Ed or Allah please let me know)…

Are we gonna have a live chat tomorrow?

ProudPalinFan on January 19, 2009 at 9:06 AM

Something about that “irritating biting fly” hittahittahittahittahitta-perpetual-hitta geetar by U2 always offended my ear and sense of musical flow.

Now I know where it comes from: insulting arrogance like this statement quoted there by Bono. What a doofus.

Adding U2 to the heap of useless, irritating biting flies among us.

About Sprinstein, what in heck is he even about? Is there any actual MUSIC involved?

I watched a clip on FOX of the O-Big-Do from yesterday and when Springstein was screaming on stage with his grotesque facial expressions, the choir behind him was composed except for this one guy being shown from the hips down, just behind and to Springstein’s Left (viewer’s right of screen behind Springstein): the guy was doing a hip-grind throughout.

There’s this choir in supposed glory stance, there’s this screeching Springstein without melody or composure and there behind him, full-on in the upper right screen o’ the television was this guy’s hips in his robe grinding away.

I think that about sums up what it was all about yesterday.

We are homeless, unemployed, and starving to death, and the President Elect is spending $150,000,000 on a party?

…and sitting in a glass-contained isolation booth complete with heaters. “Appearing” “among the people.”

They still have ruled out America. The independent-minded part of America that doesn’t feed from your trough of poison bromides, Bono.

DIAF, Bono. How’s that for HopeNChange?

spmat on January 19, 2009 at 9:55 AM

Yeah, all of a sudden it is cool to be an American again. Is it just because he is black, or is it just because he is a dem, or is it the double whammy of black dem? I don’t know, but I am slightly disgusted by it.

Couldn’t have said it better.

I had some time in a hotel before going to a late-night job on Saturday. Was too tired to work, so put on the tube. It was all Inauguration stuff — I got so desperate to get away from it I watched the last half of “Meet the Parents”.

It’s a revolting spectacle — an unbelievable exercise in self-aggrandizement using other people’s money and I’m afraid I see it as a symbol of licentiousness, excess and moral decay. It’s the zenith of a materialistic personality cult whose captives are doomed to bitter disappointment, and will lash out against responsible members of society when it starts to dawn on them that their unrealistic ambitions are not going to be achieved.

The giant give-aways of money that we don’t have is going to result in job losses, economic stagnation and rampant inflation. Hello 15% unemployment, 17% inflation and 20% interest rates. Borrow 5-year money now. If your income keeps up with inflation, your debt will be cut in half (in real terms) before you know it. That’s how the government (if that isn’t an abuse of the term) is going to pay back the trillions.

mr.blacksheep on January 19, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Jon Voight, Robert Duval, Gary Sinese…

Include Bruce Willis and you’d just about have the whole list.
There are not even five righteous men in Sodom – uh – Hollywood.

I was so pleased to find out yesterday that my daughter’s weekend homework was to write an ode to Obama…the chorus of which, it was dictated, would be “Obama!Obama!Obama!”…I kid you not. In the spirit of fairness, the teacher did offer that children could choose to write an ode to Bush instead. When the teacher announced this, my daughter reports, the class booed. So the teacher volunteered to write the Bush ode…I am praying it does not start..”You bastard!” My daughter (4th grade) could care less, but is going to write an ode to Obama, so as not to be ostracized…granted, we live in NYC, but still scary…they are making them all watch the inauguration tomorrow…I know they did not do that when Bush was inaugurated

‘America is just for Americans,’ Bono

Funny, I saw you in concert, bought your albums, and I don’t think you’d have gotten where you are, sir, without America. If you thought you could, why’d you market yourselves here in the first place? Wear your blue shades, sir, and go whine about AIDS in Africa. How much did America give there, sir? How much?

TinMan13 on January 19, 2009 at 11:55 AM

The economy is being overstimulated by this.

We Are One, but Some Are More One Than Others

Indeed.

In about six months time, let’s see how many of these celebrities are dancing in the street with all the changes B.O. is going to make.

It will be interesting to see how many of these celebrities are even still celebrities, and how many of them have had to go out and try to find real jobs after their own entertainment venues have gone out of business.

Dear Bono:

If you walk away, walk away, walk away, walk away… we’ll be fine.

Signed,
America

I am stunned. The same hateful Bush-bashers all together after drinking the Obama Koolaid. For me, Romans 13:1-7.

The U.S has given American tax dollars to more “causes” than that shitbag bono can memorize. What a worm….a boring worm at that.
