Video: Obama launches the permanent campaign

posted at 4:53 pm on January 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

You didn’t think he was going to disband the cult just because he’s president now, did you? Behold the launch of Hopenchange 2.0: Turning his grassroots organization from an operation to get him elected into an operation to pressure members of Congress to adopt his agenda. And by “members of Congress,” I don’t mean Republicans.

Organizers and even Republicans say the scope of this permanent campaign structure is unprecedented for a president. People familiar with the plan say Obama’s team would use the network in part to pressure lawmakers — particularly wavering Democrats — to help him pass complex legislation on the economy, healthcare and energy…

Though the plan still is emerging, one source with knowledge of the internal discussion said the organization could have an annual budget of $75 million in privately raised funds. Another said it would deploy hundreds of paid staff members — possibly one for every congressional district in certain politically important states and even more in larger battlegrounds such as Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia and North Carolina…

Concerns about Obama’s ambitions are coming from state party leaders as well as from Capitol Hill.

The party needs to be rooted not just around one individual, but it needs to have a grass-roots base that can survive the times and even endure past whoever may be in office,” said Jerry Meek, chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party. “Obama brings a lot to the table, but, on the other hand, state parties exist for more than serving the objectives of the president and are in the business to elect county commissioners, school board members and members of the legislature.”

What fascinates me is his faith that his supporters, almost all of whom are Democrats, can be counted on to side with him on policy against … other Democrats. There’s no reason in principle to believe that’s true — Obamites logically should prefer his position on economic recovery to McCain’s, but to Chris Dodd’s or Barney Frank’s? — but it’s perfectly sensible if you view Obamamania as a cult of personality with The One as the object in whom all trust is reposed. (See also.) He does a superb job of cultivating it too, from using the paparazzi to enhance his status as an icon to dumping one dopey Lincoln allusion after another on a media that’s itching to make the comparison. In theory it’s a bad idea to have a party “rooted around” one individual — but The One isn’t just any individual, or so we should believe. If Lincoln told you to dial up some Blue Dog Democrat and ask him to vote for another bailout, you’d do it, wouldn’t you? Well, there you go.

And the Republican response? The GOP can’t wait until 2010 or the 2012 primaries to get its act together otherwise Obama will be a two-termer.

January 21 isn’t soon enough.

katy on January 18, 2009 at 12:55 AM

“However, I don’t always see propaganda as bad.”

One more example, if I will……………

…………. this little “credit crisis” we are.

I know the Democrats are trying to blame President Bush for everything under the sun, but let’s go back in history for a little while, and what is NOT being talked about anymore………

……………. the cause.

Mr. Carter, in his belief in “social engineering” started the “Community Reinvestment Act”. What was that? In an effort to provide “affordable housing”, the Federal Government sponsored, or better yet “financed”, the lending of loans to people who could not afford the payments to “own” homes.

Was anyone told the truth behind the “Act” by the media…… was anyone warned that twenty years later their savings, homes, and lively hood could be at risk….?

No………

During the Clinton years, the “Act” was given teeth under Janet Reno, forcing lending institutions to lend money to people that could not pay it back, under penalty if they refused to do so, but there was a catch……

……… We, the people of the United States, were signers to each bogus loan and worthless piece of paper.

Does anyone remember signing on to that? What it ever given to a vote? Did the “media” do it’s job?……… no.

Then, we have Freddy Mae and Fanny Mac, both bureaucratic state sponsored agencies to buy up the worthless paper to keep the banks from stopping the “social engineering”, keeping the program going, funding groups like ACORN and La Raza, and at the same time, selling the “worthless” paper to Wall Street……….. because how could you loose, the Government of the United States of America is backing the play.

…………….. then it explodes. “BOOM”.

And what do you get……..

PROPAGANA………. on steroids.

……….. we had fifteen seconds of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd only months ago telling us that nothing was wrong, ………. then nothing.

Next………….. “BAILOUT”

Remember……… our whole economy was going to collapse in the next forty-eight ours if we didn’t start throwing money at the problem.

No one was held accountable, no policy was stopped, no legislation that caused the problem in the first place was rescinded…….. it was ” Crisis, Crisis……… and Crisis”!

……….. since then, selected companies were “too big to fail”, and the spin just started.

Isn’t it something that the Democratic controlled legislature who actually wrote the “Bail Out Bill” was surprised that after giving the Secretary of the Treasury Trillions of dollars to spend, didn’t write in any oversight to tell the American people where the money would be spent just under a month before Mr. Obama would take the oath of office?

So where are we now……… everything is “Bush’s fault”, no accountability to the policies and politicians who caused this in the first place, and they are left in charge.

But, from the MSM, late night comics, TV sitcoms, movies, news papers, magazine covers, and even my son’s kindergarten class…………

………. Obama…………. Obama…………Obama!

This has been the biggest “propaganda” war against the American sheeple from the election to our current situation.

………. so ends my opus, just listen to the confirmation hearings of people that couldn’t be hired to walk my dog………. and watch the 24/7 coverage over the next few days.

………… Elections do have consequences, so does a forty years effort of purposely dumbing down the American people.

The Obamatons I know are not the slightest bit disturbed by any of his policy or campaign promise reversals, or by his bendovers to the Clinton crew.

I had initially guessed they would be but nope, not a bit, Obama knows best and whatever Obama says is good they agree with even though he might’ve said the exact opposite just a few days before.

Obamalove seems to be unconditional. Close Gitmo in 100 days? Hooray for Obama! No wait, close Gitmo in 4 years, maybe, hopefully? Yippee, Obama will save us!

If Obama told his followers that the solution to our economic problems was for them to to run through the streets wearing their underpants on their heads they’d do it and really believe it worked.

The good news is that once the Obama personality cult goes out of fashion the whole Democratic party will go down with it.

It needs to be repeated loudly and clearly that, as President of the United States, he is the employee of the citizens of this country. Our Senators and Represenatives must be hammered with this message, as well.

I just now received an email article (too long to reproduce here) that a big chunk of money given to the Bank of America through the TARP funds was donated to Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow/PUSH confab January 13-16. Just exactly how much of our tax burden must support identity politics.

This guy needs to be turned into a parody of himself.

In one of his books he recalls his college days of one day running for President under tha theme of ‘change’. Twenty years later that was still his mantra. Change. Nothing specific. Just some vague BS marketing angle.

Now using some ultra cheesy format to launch some grandiose and delusional quest for total and complete rule for all-time.

Who does this clown think he is?

This country has survived for over 200 years without Obama leading us – and we will be around for 200 years after he is removed from office in disgrace.

The reason McCain was the republican candidate is because more republicans voted for him. Less voted for Romney, or anyone else. If more republicans voted for a better and more stronger conservative, then the general election might have turned out better.

wise_man on January 17, 2009 at 7:40 PM

I vehemently disagree. Republicans ended up with McCain thanks in large part to open primaries. Open primaries allow Dems to water down the Republican message by watering down their ‘choice’ of candidate.

If obama wants to be truly authentic with the Lincoln thing he’ll put on a dress.. according to Historybuff.com,

had to sneak into Washington disguised as a frail woman for the inauguration.

Now, if i could see THAT and take some video, I WOULD go to the innauguration.. He’d have to get the clothes from someone other than MichelleO otherwise they’d have to stuff about 15 pillows in the butt to take up the slack.

Why is it the media jumped all over GWB for the “Mission Accomplished” as being egotistical and overbearing but they are drooling and leaking genital fluids over obama play acting as Lincoln? /rethorical question

And who is surprised by that? The MSM bought every line of Barry’s fictionalized autobiographies without question. Barry created the myth, and the MSM not only failed to challenge it, they actively promoted it. Now that Barry has decided to enhance his self-mythologizing by comparing himself to Lincoln, why would anyone expect the propaganda arm of his perpetual campaign (otherwise known as the MSM) not to help him out in every possible way?

One thing you can count on from this administration, they will be all about the legacy and what is good for B. Hussein Obama. Just like Bill Clinton and a direct opposite of George W. Bush. When faced with the question of what is best for the nation and what is best for Obama, Obama’s interests will win every time.

Sometimes that will work to our advantage, sometimes not. But it will have the effect of keeping him from going far left.

right2bright on January 18, 2009 at 10:16 AM

He can campaign until the cows come home. The moment it becomes obvious that he is stalling on any decision to directly send $$$ to the poor, the first person to start banging the drum will be Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. There is no way those two are going to let him back down from the monetary promises he made throughout the campaign trail. The interesting things will be how many in the African American communities jump on the Jackson bandwagon and how the media will immediately start to discredit Sharpton or Jackson. What a balancing act it will be for them to discredit a prominent black leader while they bolster another.

And furthermore, Obama’s new campaign slogan “it’s going to get worse before it gets better” is paper-thin. This is Axelrods’ marketing genius at work to delay any kind of momentous decision on the part of the new President and ensure an additional term. They are banking on the stupidity of their loyal followers (which is a sure bet I would take any day) and the fact that the media will carry their water for four more years. Probably another sure thing.

An estimated 8,000 police officers, about half from outside the Washington area, will be deployed, said Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty. Some 10,000 National Guard reserve troops and 7,500 active-duty soldiers will also take part.
An intensified air patrol will guard the skies, and rivers bordering the city will be patrolled. Other security measures include stationing chemical-sensing teams, closing bridges into the city and sealing off a large area of downtown to cars.

I have a new sister-in-law, a very sweet lady, albeit a flaming leftist. When I asked her about the incoming administration, she got this dreamy, far away look in her eyes and stated, “I have a lot of faith in Obama.”

Methinks that she needs refresher course on the Constitution and enumerated powers. Unless she believes that Barry is God’s personal avatar, having faith in Obama to “fix everything” is not only stupid, it’s creepy. When you start worshipping politicians, two things are bound to happen:

1) You will be bitterly disappointed that the object of your affection does not part the Red Sea

2) You will excuse and love everything that he does, even his actions are the exact same ones you called immoral when someone from another political party did them.

We are about to experience the Chinese curse of living in interesting times. More’s the pity.

As a former salesman I favor politicians like Reagan who have or had charisma and the ability to put over a message. Why I loathe Obama is not because of his charisma but his egocentric ideas that he can transform America by destroying the Constitution and rewriting the Declaration of Independence. Obviously you are having trouble getting the point of my previous post… Go back and reread the whole post, both the quoted news article that you focused on, and my story of an Obama supporter’s reaction to police security at a McCain/Palin rally (though I only mentioned her as a protester, she was an Obama supporter).
-
I never said anything along the lines that the One should not be protected or that his inauguration protection is over the top… I was noting that an Obama supporter expressed concern about the presence of police at a McCain/Palin rally. Further, I wondered how the same protester would view the high level of police protection for Obama.
-
Since she made excuses for every fault and flaw that I pointed out about Obama, my guess is that she will be quite okay with the “brown shirts” that surround The One.

The more security around the President-Elect the better,Obama MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS from the hate-mongering,fear fetching, race baiting, ultra neo-conservative,anti-america haters and jesus freaks.

DcMike2K on January 18, 2009 at 4:30 PM

What a bizarre thing to debate – whether or not the President or President-Elect should be protected. Hell yes! After 9-11 all big events like this in DC should be heavily protected, no matter who is in the office.

Well, bring it on.
It will be an interesting 4 years.
All I know is,, I am not going to bend over and bow down to some community organizer getting in my face about some freaking Marxist dogma.
I do not care if the RINO’s all submit.
I will not submit.
I do not care if all my neighbors submit.
I will not submit.
If my tires are slashed,, I will not submit.
If I lose my job,, I will not submit.
I love America. America is not about some dictator like god we are all suppose to worship.
I congratulate Mr Obama on becoming President. It is an achievement for our nation that we have elected a black man and rejected racism. Wonderful.
I will not submit to Marxism or Obama worship. Just is not going to happen.
But,, we shall see how things play out. Obama has never really actually governed anything before. All he has done is been a community thug, smoked cigarettes, given speeches and run campaigns. Things may be a little different once he actually has to be responsible for something. The novelty at some point is going to wear off.

Here, here! I agree!

I used to scoff at the thought of breaking up the repub party and starting a more conservative one, but more and more, I’m thinking that’s going to be necessary. The GOP has simply become the moderate faction of the dimrat party, therefore, they are silent and meaningless.

The conservatives need to divorce from them and start a new party based on sovereignty, patriotism, traditionalism, values, and defense. And, the sooner the better.

I mostly disagree. There is no reason why conservatives should or need to give the filthy bastard taking over the presidency the benefit of the doubt. I don’t want his socialist agenda to succeed. I don’t like the people he’s bringing with him including his slutty wife.

If the filthy bastard wants to win over conservatives, let him do it by his actions not by morons like you demanding we not be critical of filthy government when we see it.

I want to respond quickly here before your mommy sends you to bed…

Gee, I guess you passed Brownshirt character assasination 101.

and what plumber are you referring to? Is it that GOP plant that lives in Ohio and that’s not even a license plumber,

OK dude, don’t know if you are old enough for working papers yet, but I have worked in the same postition as Joe. I had my Master’s degree but I was helping a friend out. As long as he is a licensed plumber, no problem..NEXT

NOT buying his own business,

WHO CARES.. He certainly won’t be buying a business under obamamarx. I know a lot of mom and pop shops that have just fired all their employees. And, guess what, it is doable for the guy to buy the business. You just don’t know diddly about small business loans..

owes back taxes

Which he paid when he found out about them. I don’t give a rat’s smelly rectum about a plumber not paying his taxes. HOWEVER, I do care when Charlie Rangell, you know, the democrap who writes the tax code, fails to pay taxes. How about obama who never paid taxes on the sweetheart deal from Tony Rezko’s wife… A third of a million in value and not a penny in tax paid.. What about the treasury secretery pick.. Cheated on HIS taxes a couple of different ways… Oh, and did the dirtball Cold Cash Jefferson pay taxes on the 90 grand in his freezer??? hmmmmmmm??? thought not

and now that so-called plumber is now pretending to be some kind of hard news reporter?

I worked for the navy for almost 20 years. I met some interesting people. They never talked about what they did, but the word got around. One guy had a sniper record close to that of Carlos Hatcock but it was unofficial. It happened where US Troops weren’t. Another guy personally disabled about 40 or the 70+ F-14s in Iran before he left that country. Again, he never spoke of it. Other people told us. The think about all those people was the eyes. They had “Don’t ever F with me eyes”. When I first saw Joe the plumber I saw those eyes and told my family that the dems would make a mistake messing with him. Guess what, I was right.

As far as being a reporter he will do a world better than the liberal nitwits that are out there.

Uh, mikey, check up on history.. This war has been going on since about 700 AD. The towers and the pentagon and flight 93 were attacked by islamic terrorists. Saddam had used WMDs on his own people and the iranians.

The wars were done in accord with congress..

Are you weeping for Saddam?? The guy who would throw his people into acid vats or tree shredders? The guy whos kids fed their victims to tigers for shits and giggle. The guy where it was a death sentence to make a joke about a mustache?? I’ve had some deep discussions with a Kuwaiti Colonel and I don’t detect anything other than thankfullness that Saddam is gone.

How about the taliban in Afghanistan.. Bet you wish they were still there beheading and burning women for wanting to go to school.

We’ve had 7+ years where I could be relatively sure that there would not be a repeat of Beslan here in the US. Now I have to start worrying every day my kid goes to school.

This is the real world pal. Not amateur hour where some birkenstock wearing latte sipping so called intellectuals get to have a discussion about what to do.

I’ve worked for the military and am aware of what NBC weapons can do (Anyone can be educated just through basic open source materials). A 1kt weapon can fit in the backseat of a mini cooper. 15kt can easily fit in an SUV. Get a small van and you can put a multistage H Bomb of 2+ Megatons. I listened to a speech by the former SecNav and didn’t sleep for a week. We’re playing the big leagues.. life or death, and we have a bunch of punk amateurs in charge.

How many times have you been in a life or death situation??

There are a lot of things I disagree with GWB on but his approach worked. He took the enemy off balance. Unfortunately 52% of the country decided they wanted “Hope and Change” and can’t give you any reasonable definition of what the hell that means.

We needed Winston Churchill, We got Neville Chamberlan

We Needed Jan III Sobieski, We got a chicago community organizer.
