Video: Obama launches the permanent campaign

posted at 4:53 pm on January 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

You didn’t think he was going to disband the cult just because he’s president now, did you? Behold the launch of Hopenchange 2.0: Turning his grassroots organization from an operation to get him elected into an operation to pressure members of Congress to adopt his agenda. And by “members of Congress,” I don’t mean Republicans.

Organizers and even Republicans say the scope of this permanent campaign structure is unprecedented for a president. People familiar with the plan say Obama’s team would use the network in part to pressure lawmakers — particularly wavering Democrats — to help him pass complex legislation on the economy, healthcare and energy…

Though the plan still is emerging, one source with knowledge of the internal discussion said the organization could have an annual budget of $75 million in privately raised funds. Another said it would deploy hundreds of paid staff members — possibly one for every congressional district in certain politically important states and even more in larger battlegrounds such as Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia and North Carolina…

Concerns about Obama’s ambitions are coming from state party leaders as well as from Capitol Hill.

The party needs to be rooted not just around one individual, but it needs to have a grass-roots base that can survive the times and even endure past whoever may be in office,” said Jerry Meek, chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party. “Obama brings a lot to the table, but, on the other hand, state parties exist for more than serving the objectives of the president and are in the business to elect county commissioners, school board members and members of the legislature.”

What fascinates me is his faith that his supporters, almost all of whom are Democrats, can be counted on to side with him on policy against … other Democrats. There’s no reason in principle to believe that’s true — Obamites logically should prefer his position on economic recovery to McCain’s, but to Chris Dodd’s or Barney Frank’s? — but it’s perfectly sensible if you view Obamamania as a cult of personality with The One as the object in whom all trust is reposed. (See also.) He does a superb job of cultivating it too, from using the paparazzi to enhance his status as an icon to dumping one dopey Lincoln allusion after another on a media that’s itching to make the comparison. In theory it’s a bad idea to have a party “rooted around” one individual — but The One isn’t just any individual, or so we should believe. If Lincoln told you to dial up some Blue Dog Democrat and ask him to vote for another bailout, you’d do it, wouldn’t you? Well, there you go.

The media we had was talk radio. The left convinced the public that Hannity and Rush had cooties, or something, and dismissed what they had to say. Enough people would NEVER listen that the full effectiveness of talk radio is not enough to spread our message. We need well-coordinated, multimedia communications.

Ahh yes, the same thing Hugo Chavez did. And why do you think all the boot-lick Democrats were visiting with Hugo these last years? And why do you think Hugo’s Communism and free pies for all, is now on the rocks and sinking?

If you haven’t already, watch the video on the frontline site “The Hugo Chavez Show” — It’s well worth your time to become acquainted with what is going on with Obama and his America 2.0 crappola.

Pravda means “the truth”. When the entire media establishment, domestic and international, is in an inseparable dog-like coitus with the One, all other outlets are miniscule.

Because our media is otherwise engaged, until the hyper-erection occurs, we’re doomed. “We” means the country. Just enjoy yer apathy.

Ask your friends a few questions to see if they EVER have heard of any of this. You think people are arguing about whether Obama is a cult of personality? They have never heard them term.

And so it goes. I once thought it was good that he was elected, because then people would find out he is just another crummy politician like any other. I think I was wrong. Creepy.

Ya’ll forget about Bill Clinton’s Americorp?

The greatest achievement of the Clinton presidency has been to incorporate a message of personal responsibility and citizenship into the rhetoric of the Democratic Party.

On the wiki. . .

From Heritage.org

President Bill Clinton sought to capture this spirit by creating AmeriCorps, a controversial program that President Bush would like to reform and expand as part of a greater and more promising effort to promote service and citizenship. Despite good intentions and several improvements, AmeriCorps remains a deeply flawed program that hinders rather than advances the President’s larger goals. Far from encouraging the personal responsibility and independent citizenship proper to American self-government and a vibrant volunteer sector, AmeriCorps promotes a government-centered idea of social service.

The problem was less the message than the messanger. Run a candidate that actually believes in his party’s message next time, instead of a watered down version of the opposition, and you might actually persuade some people.
Run a candidate who doesn’t sound like he’s endorsing his opponent every time he mentions him and you might persuade a few more people.
The people who feverently supported McCain got the administration they deserved; the rest of us, who were told we didn’t matter, and to shut up and vote McCain, got dragged along for the ride. Note to you moderates that made this debacle, next time just have the GOP concede the election instead of wasting our time and money running one of your pathetic RINO nutless monkeys.

So long as we’ve put up with the likes we still have on our side, who’re just a bit stronger version of the the others, and do no more to stand up, while enjoying the lavish privilages, we do deserve them. I remind myself that it was not a landslide election and the Rep voters got their information from somewhere other than MSM.
Millions sat it out. Millions showed up and voted Rep. Millions voted against Bush and NOT necessarily for Obama. And millions are going to feel the squeeze and come out of their dream. Millions are guns owners and vets and have families. Millions believe in God not government.

The GOP came back after the 1964 election and Watergate. The crooks appear to have been cleaned out. There are young, talented GOP governors out there, as well as conservative congressmen. People like Mitch and Fred for advice.

The Lefties, the Harry & Nancy gang and Obama are all going to be pulling the Dems different ways. We’re close to the edge, but there’s other directions to take. I hope the RNC chair choice gets things moving. Imagine the fun of a GOP candidate taking Obama’s old senate seat in 2010 from Tombstone Burris.

I believe you were a Fred person, but I don’t recall for sure. By the time California voted in the primaries it didn’t mantter, plus my vote in CA counts as much as AP’s does in NY.

You may persist in calling me a RINO. If you google I have not been in either party. None deserve my registration. I was an independent who voted with the conservatives. The former “independents”, now only ‘independents’ have disappointed me greatly. I’m now without a party and fully apathetic. None deserve my vote, as they aren’t that much different.

Wait till obama suspends habeaus corpus.

We need a co-ordinated effort to counter the media. If, every time the pulled a partisan stunt, they received a half million phone calls and a half million emails, and 50 protestors outside their studios, then maybe things would turn a little.

However, the decent people are too busy working and raising their families. Getting them active is a herculean task in itself.

I also find it disturbing that the obamaites are ALREADY trying to repeal the presidential term limits. Gee we can have our own Saddam, Kim Il Jung or Moamaar Khadafy.. Yep, Messiah for life..

Yeah and don’t forget they also have the donor list from his election website. Those are said to be the grassroots contacts for action committees. And he also will have a list of donor to the largest and most expensive inauguration in history.

Speaking of RNC Chair selections, an observation … Michael Steele has really picked up his email communication on the GOPAC and yesterday I got a fund raising phone call from Ken Blackwell. I’d say Blackwell is really going at it strong. They said the vote was at the end of the month.

again you try in vain to re-write history as you’d like to see it written.

The reason McCain was the republican candidate is because more republicans voted for him. Less voted for Romney, or anyone else. If more republicans voted for a better and more stronger conservative, then the general election might have turned out better.

And McCain did not campaign for Obama. He just didn’t agree with the crazy town hall lady who made the claim that Obama was a muslim. Or agree with other comments, some that were racist. He didn’t want to be associated with them, but he did not want Obama to win, he wanted as many Americans to vote for him.

katy on January 17, 2009 at 7:36 PM

I don’t think the Republican party opposes propaganda……… look at what happened in the primaries and McCain won the nomination. I think they used it, not very well, but they used it.

……………… but, as a Conservative, I tend to believe that if you have to use propaganda, you’re hiding something, most often the truth.

Let me give you an example…………….. on an earlier post here at HotAir, there was a link showing the many Pro-Hamas anti-Israeli demonstrations going on across the United States.

…….. even though they were separated by thousands of miles, all of the protesters were chanting the same slogans and carrying similar signs.

Interesting how people so far from each other were shouting the same hateful slogans, all directly from the propaganda play book………

Now we have a “permanent campaign” by the Democrats with no end in sight funded by private, and I am sure soon to be, public money………

……… the propaganda is already in our schools, in our movies, on our TV shows, with late night comedians, in our newspapers where “opinion” is now “news”, it dominates the “pop culture”, changes demographics, wins elections, writes laws, and in the end, effects your life.

The only problem is that when you shine the light of TRUTH on what is being done, or the results of failed social engineering policies……….

……….. you are destroyed. There is no fair and open debate. All the techniques of propaganda are used against you not, to educate and win the debate, but to win at all costs to regain power.

That is the problem I have with propaganda……….. it covers up the lies behind the message controlling the masses.

……………. just look at the 24/7 news love fest coverage of Obama’s little train trip today, and that was only on FOX news.

Good God, I want to puke…….. and now, it will never end.

I don’t see what happened in 08 as a failure of conservatives, or even the republican party, but as a failure of the electorate and a reflection of the where our culture has arrived. As others have pointed out, we have become an American Idol culture and are very easily fooled through propaganda and media manipulation. That is the only way Obama and all the clowns in congress could be elected. There is no turning back for a long time, people have been dumbed down to a very high degree.
Welcome to the third world.

I totally agree. Reflecting on the past 8 years I think it was odd how fast everything went back to “normal” after 9/11. I think we’ve become a complacent as a culture.

terryannonline on January 17, 2009 at 8:59 PM

Obama scares the living crap out of me. Stupid people swoon. People MUST hold the media accountable for this. When this all unfolds, NBC especially, ABC (which also means ESPN and Disney), and certainly CBS should be shunned and forced out of business. Frankly, I’m not that happy with Fox anymore (they kiss you know what’s to get interviews – especially Hannity). But, Fox is the best we can hope for right now. The mainstream media will never admit their mistakes, just say they were misled. Enough is enough with the media. Speak with your pocketbooks – that’s all they understand. Our local NBC news even sucks now because they only read what’s fed to them. This is serious because there are alot of stupid people out there listening.

They don’t care if they are going under financially. That didn’t make the NY Times stop their unrelenting Obama propaganda, or the LA Times(I think) from releasing that damning Obama video. Besides, how long before they get their own bailout from Obama?

Many valid points and opinions here…”7%”…The end is not that near or…

I’ll soon take all my troubles over to Obama Rue
You know The One with the never ending Hope and Change shtick
He’s goin’ get a pad down on Pennsylvania avenue
He’ll be passin’ out little bottles of Obama Potion Number Nine

I’ll tell him that I’m having trouble with my mortgage payments
It’s gotten even worse in these last few weeks
He’ll kissed me on the cheek and he’ll made a magic sign
He’ll say “What you need is Obama Potion Number Nine”

He’ll turn around and gave me a wink
He’ll say “I’m gonna have my Michelle make it up right here in the White House sink”
It’ll smell like Chicago, it’ll look like socialist ink
I’ll hold my nose, I’ll close my eyes, I’ll take a drink

I won’t know if it is day or night
I’ll start grabbin’ everyone else’s money that is in sight
But when there’s nothin’ left to grab
It’ll break my little bottle of Obama Potion Number Nine

My point is we’ve lost the media battle and it wasn’t close.

A plurality of Nov voters thought the R’s controlled Congress.

That was achieved by media design.

artist on January 17, 2009 at 6:29 PM

Actually, if we are talking about the same polling I was more fascinated by the results of the “stupid things Biden and Obama said” section.

Essentially, Obama voters were given a number of dumb things the dynamic dumbos said and asked who they thought made the statement. Generally the answer was “Palin”. Those interviewed were generally shocked to find that it was their hero or his sidekick, not the Gov of Alaska. Which just goes to show how well the media did its job.

These Lincoln comparisons are really getting nauseating . . .

Lincoln was tall, scrawny, and, let’s face it, ugly. Those are where the comparisons end. Somebody needs to remind Obama how Lincoln came to his end. He might want to cool it.

He’s a reckless lawyer
I hear he carries several whips
He’s a sultan of Wall Street with women at his fingertips
They say he’s nearly seven feet tall
And yet quite graceful……all in all
I’m told he waddles when he walks
And often twitches when he talks
Is he a dolt? No, he’s very deep!
Oh, Hotair’s losing sleep!
Who is Allahpundit?

Is he a hero or a turncoat skunk, a fighting Patton or an Obama kool-aid imbibing drunk?
Who is Allahpundit?
I’m sure he’s flatulent and crass
Here, here, the man’s a horse’s ass
No, no, he’s neighborly and kind
But quite eclectically inclined
Whatever guise he may employ,
He’s Hotair’s pride and joy
This plucky nonpareil
This lucky, bloody swell
Who is Allahpundit, do tell?

Also, with the “o” saying that the Constitution is flawed….
ah thank you very much I like it just the way it is…
Let’s just simply abide by it…
This grass roots Machine he’s perpetuating could very well be the mechanism by which they try to push the additional two states to call for a Con Con… That is so scary on so many different levels….

Actually, I somewhat disagree. 2008 was an indication conservatives have failed. Not so much in the campaign and the final results, but that we were even in the situation where a joke like Obama would be a legitimate contender.

The Left has successfully enacted their Gramascian strategy and either destroyed or co-opted almost every cultural and political institution.

To use your terminology, and it is a nice turn of phrase, this American Idolization of America isn’t an accident that the Left is taking advantage of, it is where the Left has been pushing us for many years now.

Another theme that I have harped on is that Obama is now running for 2012 and will not disband his campaign. For mnay of you comments like this were forthcoming:

1)”I’m tired of 2008. Talk to me in 2 years.”

2) “It’s too early in the process.”

3) “Let’s focus on 2010 first.”

4) “I’m not thinking about politics right now.”

You folks who think this way–wake up, get a life, Obama is about to take America away from you!

While we are on the lincoln thing.. Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN. Many people seem to forget that the democrats wanted to keep the slavery system and it was the republicans who worked to end it (yes, there were a lot of other factors at work as well).

Robert Smalls as a slave in Charleston who, as the pilot of a Confederate Warship, stole the ship, went to another wharf to pick up the slaves’ families, sailed under the guns of the confederate forts and surrendered the ship to the union. He went on to be the first black captain of a union warship and later served in congress. He was a staunch republican saying

.. it was “The party of Lincoln which unshackled the necks of four million human beings.” In his campaign speeches he said ” every colored man who has a vote to cast, would cast that vote for the regular Republican Party and thus bury the Democratic Party so deep that there will not be seen even a bubble coming from the spot where the burial took place.” Later in life he recalled “I can never loose [sic] sight of the fact that had it not been for the Republican Party, I would have never been an office-holder of any kind- from 1862- to present.”

Wiki on smalls

Two questions

1. How did the democrats manage to win the black population over?

2. Do they teach anything about Robert Smalls during Black History month?? I never heard anything about him until about a week ago.

Unfortunately, propaganda is a necessary evil, but propaganda doesn’t have to lie to be effective. It just needs to communicate a idea that relates to its audience. For instance, imagine a billboard that said:

“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death

Support The Second Amendment”

But all that said, there is something else going on today. It is being used beyond the scope of marketing. The propaganda on the Left is being used like a baseball bat.

There is nothing worse when trying to discuss ideas than being shouted down with propaganda. That type of behavior gives me the chills. It reminds me of all those young Chinese waving their little red books.

There appears to be a sentiment on the Left that feels that using the power of the government to beat the Right over the head with little red books is perfectly acceptable. After all, the people on the right are “bad” people.

Yes, one of the problems with the increasing utopianism of the left is that is provides a powerful incentive to allow any means. After all, if all that is necessary to create heaven on earth is to silence a handful of “bad” people, then who wouldn’t do so?

I hope the coming failure of Obama to usher in the Millennium will return most of the left to sanity, but with the media pushing Obama’s messiah status even more then he is, that might prove difficult.

Propaganda can be as simple as a mantra. The left used “no blood for oil” or “Bush lied people died”. The ideas became ingrained in the American psyche.
The right can do the same with powerful yet truthful mantras.
Why this is not happening is beyond belief.

Watch the series “Hitler’s Bodyguards” on Discovery’s Military Channel for insight into how a minor political figure grew in power and influence through a cult of personality. He created a para-military “security” force for his party that eventually rivaled in manpower the national military forces.

Hitler decided that following a revolutionary tact would just get him killed so he took over and grew the Nazi party with fanatics in order to work from within the existing political system. Rivals and opponents were dealt with summarily; disloyalty was punished severely. Eventually his shadow government became the ruling government controlling all aspects of life in Germany.

Any of this soundng familiar?

The media we had was talk radio. The left convinced the public that Hannity and Rush had cooties, or something, and dismissed what they had to say. Enough people would NEVER listen that the full effectiveness of talk radio is not enough to spread our message. We need well-coordinated, multimedia communications.

stonemeister on January 17, 2009 at 6:23 PM

We need movie & television producers, screenplay writers, musicians, songwriters, documentary makers, artists of all genres, professors, teachers, school boards, sports heros, sports writers, scientists, engineers, lawyers, small business owners, county supervisors, mayors, state legislatures, city halls, the list is almost endless.

The above list, though, has been overrun with leftist…to put the problem in perspective.
