Aww: Obama named gun salesman of the year

He deserves it. Thanks to him, the industry’s recession-proof.

“It’s credit where credit is due,” says Shepherd, “Mr. Obama has consistently voted against individual rights to firearms, appointed a re-tread Clinton administration full of gun banners, and made it plain to anti-gun groups that despite what he might say to the contrary, he’s on their side.” That history, along with the unquestioned support of anti-gun organizations, Shepherd says, has spooked consumers into a buying frenzy for firearms that could be outlawed in another Assault Weapons Ban…

Sales are so good that on Tuesday, January 6, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issued a notice to all federal firearms licensees that “an unprecedented increase in demand for ATF Form 4473” had run supplies low enough that dealers were temporarily given permission to photocopy the form until supplies caught up with demand…

In fact, Shepherd says, gun and ammunition sales are at such frantic levels that they have surpassed the panic-buying of Y2K or anything during the Clinton years when the first Assault Weapons Ban was passed.

Some of this must be driven by media hysteria about the economy; I’ve read enough stories myself about Depression, ruin, and catastrophe to wonder if I shouldn’t be preparing for the Mad-Max-ification of New York City. But there is a Hopenchange factor here: Reports of soaring sales started trickling in literally the day after the election and broke big into the mainstream media by mid-November. How strange that people wouldn’t take The One’s assurances about gun ownership at face value.

Coincidentally, WaPo files a dispatch this morning from deep in the heart of Bitterclingersville. You want anecdotal evidence? You got it:

But he says Obama lost his support when he made his infamous remarks at a private fundraiser in San Francisco about small-town Americans who feel marginalized and “cling to guns or religion.”…

Not long after Obama’s comments, Loewer received mailers from the National Rifle Association saying that Obama planned to ban hunting, restrict gun laws and close 90 percent of gun shops. Several nonpartisan fact-checking groups discredited the claims, but the gun dealers Loewer talked to said the NRA had it right.

“When Obama got elected, I went out and bought a rifle and pistol shells for every weapon I own,” he says. “I bought $400 worth of ammo.”

Not that Loewer feared Armageddon or a race war; he was stocking up in case the warnings from the NRA and the gun dealers came true.

Follow the link and see for yourself which photo they chose to illustrate the story with. Exit question: I can’t shake the feeling that they think there’s an ulterior reason for rural voters’ wariness about Obama. Anyone else getting that vibe?

I credit Great Leader for the Glock I purchased the Sunday before election day.

I’ve even named all of the bullets Hussein after Great Leader.

At every gun show you have guys selling their AK’s and AR’s named as an “Obama Special”. Of course they also want at least a grand for a decade-old A2 upper as well.

Supply and demand.

Typical left wing propaganda from the WaPo, to paint all gun owners with the “redneck” brush.

That’s consistent with The One’s attitude that we’re a bunch of bitter clingers.

Lookup the “Ammunition Accountability Act” to see some scary language (for gun fans).

You don’t have to ban guns if you make the ammo inaccessible (by availability or price)

I’ve been trying for two solid months to take the class at the local NRA in order to get my concealed carry permit. And for two months in a row it’s been filled before I could get there to sign up. Gotta shoot (ha!) for March now.

And every time I go over there, the range is jammed full.

As Percy noted – it’s not gunnies stocking up that’s driving gun sales so high (we are cleaning out the ammo shelves though). There are tons of first time buyers at every gun shop / show I’ve been to in the last three months.

Concealed Carry classes have not only been packed steadily as well, every instructor I know is doing as many additional sessions as they can. Some of them are so busy they can’t schedule more classes – there simply isn’t time (especially range time) enough.

The backlog of some dealers/assembliers is running 6 months or more. Everyone I know who fidgets/builds is on someone’s backorder list. Some dealers aren’t even taking phone calls anymore. It is a parts issue, and I mean ALL parts. Even the small springs and sight posts are demanding you get in line. True free enterprise panic buying at it’s best.

Absolutely. First time gun owner myself. Day after the election, was at the gun shop with a co-worker and the place was packed. Picked up a Ruger 10/22, Glock 19, and 2 Ar-15 Off-List-Lowers(CA resident). The AR lowers are back ordered like crazy. I do finally get to pick mine up next week on the day of the immaculate inauguration oddly enough.

Same here but he started stocking us up before the election just to make sure.We have more than 4 years ammo put away if he hunts, about 2 weeks worth if “the Mad-Max-ification” spreads to middle U.S. Even hooked me up with a generator-hes always been my hero. Hubby is a long time military man and he travels quite often for his job-its me and the 4 kids by ourselves for the most part, but they are all teens and have been raised to know how and when to use all variations of firearms. I mean with Obama and the press continuing to berate the public with “OMG what dire straits our economy is in!”,you never know what kind of reaction people will have if something even minimally drastic occurs…

Who needs vibes when we have this concrete evidence?:

Robert Serio, chairman of the local Democratic Party for 30 years, says Obama was viewed as too liberal in Monroe County. “We don’t look at national Democrats as being family-oriented,” says Serio, a lawyer. “The multicultural thing would be something we are opposed to. The homosexual question would have an impact.”

But regarding guns, there’s plenty more, er, ammo for the rural voter and maybe even a few suburbanites and urbanites. Meet Obama’s “Regulatory Czar”, Cass Sunstein.

If anyone pays attention to elections, the fastest way out of office is to support gun control. A lot of people credit Newt Gingrich with winning the House and Senate for Republicans in the 90’s, and to some extent that is true. It would be a mistake to forget that most of the people voted out of office were gun control advocates.

In Washington they have at least learned to be quiet about their gun control ambitions, if not actually be against gun control.

Its the truth and everyone knows it..

The reason everyone is out buying weapons is they

People who go to church (using thought crime laws)
People who do not believe in homosexuality
People who believe in the consititution..
People who are ex military
People who are in the military
People who are sucessful (meaning not on welfare)
People who still believe in american freedoms not the new world ODOR..
People who still believe in the bible.
People who are rich (after obama is crowned) that will b 50k or above
Military personell they called murderers (how dare they).

The Washington Post should know by now that the huge increase in gun sales since November had absolutely Nothing To Do with deer season!

Just two weekends ago, there was a HUGE gun show in Downtown Houston. Didn’t attend, but living here in TX, I know attendance to those things is going to be… well… gigantic.

Obama (and the Washington Post) have to know that they’ve got very few friends in TX… especially after the shenanigans that occurred after the TX primary. (Hillary won the primary, but Obama got the delegates. Of course, there was intimidation and cheating! You had to be a bobble-head not to figure that out!)

As a rural voter whose husband went out & bought another rifle & some ammo when Obama won the election, I can safely say we did not buy the stuff bcs of the economy i.e. armageddon (sp?) scares.

ND is basically ALL rural & McCain won the state bcs we generally don’t like our 2nd trifled with.

We are in Bitterclingsville central out here.
But interestingly, we have Dem congress folks. I believe it’s bcs the farmer-folk + city-folk like their handouts.
Remeber, us rancher-folk don’t usually get handouts as a rule (except for disaster aid-that is govt whore $$ too).

BTW- I’ve always said you can NEVER own enough guns & ammo.

Badger40 on January 16, 2009 at 3:36 PM

Ayn Rand Said it best:

“Then you will see the rise of the men of the double standard–the men who live by force, yet count on those who live by trade to create the value of their looted money–the men who are the hitchhikers of virtue. In a moral society, these are the criminals, and the statutes are written to protect you against them. But when a society establishes criminals-by-right and looters-by-law–men who use force to seize the wealth of disarmed victims–then money becomes its creators’ avenger. Such looters believe it safe to rob defenseless men, once they’ve passed a law to disarm them.”

Welcome to Texas NoDonkey. Look out for Austin and you’ll be okay.

I would like to drive up for a Longhorn game, I’m guessing the population won’t be any more pinko than the clowns here in Northern Virginia, so I’ll hold my nose for that.

Looking forward to Texas and to getting out of Stinktown a week after Great Leader’s coronation.

And then the national government is going to put them out of business.

No they won’t, that would be one less business to sue and to tax.

After all, you can still buy cigarettes.

Oh. It is. That’s where they all hide in Texas. Everyone prides themselves on being an individual by being like everyone else. Luckily drug addicts aren’t too good with follow thru so they don’t get much power. Go watch the Horns when they play A&M at Kyle field. THAT’s an experience!

When I picked up a Sig 250 last weekend, the gun shop had color pictures of O behind the counter labeled Salesmen of the Year. I’ve picked up a few since the election, never owned one before, now I’ve 4 hand guns and an AR (as long as my wife doesn’t start yelling, I’m going to keep buying).

People ask me why now, after being out of the Army for 20 years, why do I need guns now. The simple answer, our 2nd amendment wasn’t really in danger before the coming of the O. His disdain for guns and gun owners is quite evident. The 2nd amendment is the foundation of all of our rights. Without the right to defend oneself, you have no rights.

Am I really worried that a gun ban will pass? Na, not really (don’t tell my wife that). I’m just a rebel at heart. I know the dear leader doesn’t like guns so I’m doing my part to stick it to the man (plus, blowing holes in stuff sure is fun).

Dictatorships sort of require someone who knows what the hell it is they are doing. So the Dems come up short there.

But they did get a guy with no experience, the product of the Chicago machine, elected POTUS…

That sounds like a tough ticket.

I’ll probably have to settle for the Baylor game.

Thanks to Team O, I personally have dramatically increased my stockpile of ammo in recent months.

UltimateBob on January 16, 2009 at 2:25 PM

Ammo is already getting hard to find. Midway USA is out of many different rifle and pistol rounds, and they say they are gone as soon as they come in. Cheaper than dirt said the same thing. They are not even taking back orders.

7.62X39 Russian is really bad. I have bought a ton of ammo already, and am wanting to buy more.

I will consider any government bureaucrat trying to take away my guns as an enemy combatant attack on the United States and the US constitution by a dangerous and mortal enemy.

You can often get good deals on used pistols, especially LEO trade-ins. It helps to have a friend with an FFL, but you can purchase on http://www.auctionarms.com as long as you have the firearm shipped to a dealer. I have two S&W .40 and a S&W .357, all bought used at great prices. A little holster wear, but all three had been shot so little that they were still very tight. Money saved by buying used can pay for a fair amount of ammo.

I think I will wait, in about 6 months there will be some real bargains out there…and no I don’t believe the conspiracy hype.
I remember when Bush was elected, and the liberal fish wraps were full of the “Bush will never allow free elections again, he will claim emergency order, etc.” and similar comments after Katrina, “This is a reason for Bush to not allow free elections”, I refuse to be identified with those fools.

Shhh, I’ve had my PPP( personal protection permit ) since the law passed here in MN. I carry all the time lately. But don’t tell anyone who wants Minnesotans dead. I might mistake them for liberals and socialists and may ask questions later… if you know what I mean…… Semper Fi!

Bush didn’t have friends introducing bills to repeal the 22nd amendment, though. I’m not a conspiracy junkie, just sayin’.

theotherKate on January 16, 2009 at 4:47 PM

The last time I shopped for ammo was before Christmas, at Sportsmen’s Warehouse. They keep all their ammo on the open shelves, so it’s easy to pick out what you want from their large array of choices.

Of handgun ammo, they had nothing! They were almost completely out of all of it! I’ve never seen it like that.

Yeah, there has been a lot of hoarding and gouging going on of course. Definitely a panic. On the other hand, on BHO’s hopenchange transition site he did explicitly say he will bring back the Assault Weapons ban and this time make it permanent.

ruben on January 16, 2009 at 4:54 PM

I’ve never heard as much rumble about another civil war, revolt, etc in the US than I have in the last 6 months. So between Obamas plan to be all for gun sales as long as it’s not withing 10 miles of a school (meaning only out in the middle of the countryside), and preparing for the possibility of armed revolt, gun sales should continue hot.
