This callous disregard for even a semblance of objectivity, coupled with the prospect of McCain as the once and future media-annointed representative of “compassionate” conservatism, is causing me to rapidly lose my sense of humor about the recent election.

I am beginning to feel a white-hot anger at how the media can have so much unaccountable power that they present the voters with candidates essentially of their own choosing, and then manage the public perception of the candidates to ensure the election of their favorite.

I don’t think control of information (i.e. control of the “truth”) is the role the founding fathers had in mind for the press, but they have parlayed their mention in the Constitution into becoming a 4th branch of government that is privileged to operate without checks and balances.
