New Pepsi campaign: Obama’s about to “refresh our nation”

posted at 8:46 pm on January 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Debbie Schlussel flagged this yesterday but only now that I’ve seen the clip have I been sufficiently “refreshed” that I feel like posting on it.

Not the most shameless bit of Obama-related marketing I’ve seen, but certainly the lamest. Or is it? Click the image to watch.

You’ll probably need it soon, for a deep soak in raw sarcasm.

One of my neighbors has one of those Snoopy Dog houses that counts down the days till Christmas and this freak has it set up to count down the days hours and minutes till Obama is inaugurated.

I thought about stopping and asking him if he is retarded but I think he would sue me for ruining his O-gasm

Bicyea on January 15, 2009 at 10:59 PM

It is so foolish for a company like Pepsi to get involved in politics in their advertising. Don’t they know that 57 million people voted against Obama? I think that they are alinating their customer base and dividing it up like leftists running for election. I guess since I voted for McCain I’ll pick coke or RC or something.

Dollayo on January 15, 2009 at 11:02 PM

Which bottled water companies, if any, are not owned by Pepsi?

I´m not drinking any Pepsi products again, much like Miller and their illegal immigration rallies and Coors with their pro-gay support.

Actualy, the numbers are a bit greater than most people think…

There are about 220 million adult Americans who could vote if they wished… Obama got about 67 million votes… thus only about 30% of the potential voters voted for him.

Sad when less than a third of the voters in a Democracy can take a country towards Socialism…

If you’re not a pepsi drinker at 20, you have no heart.
If you’re not a coca cola drinker at 40, you have no head.

Or, something like that. :-)

In my teens and twenties, I did love pepsi, but by a happy coincidence, soon after I became a conservative I switched to coke. Or was it a coincidence?

How much more pathetic can this hero worship of Barrack “American Idol” Obama get.

“Everything is going to be different”.
What a bunch of idiotic sheep.

Has there ever been more blind admiration and hero worship of someone who has accomplished so little.

This is like watching the male version of Paris Hilton.

I find it interesting that leftists now want to say how “we’re all in it together” now that they’re guy is in office. When it was a conservative in office their attitude was a bit different. Something like “die you conservative pigs, die!”

Bingo!! That’s why I completely disagree with the detractors including those who malign Palin.

Realize this, though. They’re all protecting their “turf.” That includes bloggers who object to JTP. The excuse is that, “He’ll damage our image.” Really? What “image?”

Bloggers are getting a bit ahead of themselves. As far as the MSM is concerned they are all amatures. But our blogger stalwarts don’t want anyone getting in their way as they make their climb to the upper echelons. Who knows? By maligning the unwashed they could join ranks with pissy-Chrissy and Andrea (snort)Mitchell.

Hell, all’s Pepsi (and coke and all them other softdrinks for that matter) is a bunch of sugarwater with some artificially colored food dyes.

Mix in some carbonated sugar water in a can and there ya go…

Pepsi, Coke, they’re all the same.

Stopped drinking ‘Pop’ when I was a teenager.

Now the only time I need to use carbonated water is when I mix a drink. But I assure you, it ain’t pepsi or coke!

Take a good look at what the Pepsi Cola Co. is:

Pepsico Inc. Chief Financial Officer Indra K. Nooyi will replace Steven Reinemund as chief executive, the Pepsi-Cola and snacks company said yesterday, making her the No. 2-ranked female CEO in the Fortune 500. (2006)

In 2004, Nooyi and her husband donated $27,000 to the primary campaign of John Kerry. In March 2008, Nooyi was elected Chairman of the US-India Business Council (USIBC), a non-profit business advocacy organization representing nearly 300 of the largest US companies doing business in India and two dozen of India’s global companies investing in America. Nooyi leads USIBC’s Board of Directors, an assembly of 25 senior executives representing a cross-section of American industry.

I’ve owned Pepsi stock for years, and I am furious at this ludicrous Obama-worship. Half the country voted against Obama, and by next year, most of the other half is going to wish they had voted against him as well. Pepsi’s management has no damn business inserting their stupid liberal political wet dreams into a public-owned business.

OT, but Walmart has recently begun running commercials here in southern AZ touting a new check-cashing service they’re offering. Bring in your paycheck, stimulus check, welfare check, etc., and they’ll cash it for you for only $3. Gee, I wonder what population that ad is directed at? Most people cash their checks for free at their bank — unless they’re illegal aliens, fugitives, tax cheats, or other types of deadbeats trying to avoid asset seizures. But it’s good to know that Walmart is out there working hard to provide conveniences to criminals. Who cares about what’s good for the country when there’s a buck to be made, eh Walmart?

AZCoyote on January 16, 2009 at 8:10 AM

The truth is,, none of these big corporations are indispensable. This nation is filled with innovative people who,, if left alone by the government,, would produce new soft drinks, new cars, new products of every kind that could and would surpass whatever is out there today! True competition and real free and open markets help to keep business grounded in reality.
I just love how these corporations who had their beginnings in a free America,, earned their millions and billions off the loyalty of hard working Americans,, then once established as world conglomerations,, suddenly no longer care about those who helped make them great. I will never forget how the Pepsi CEO said America was giving the “middle finger to the world.”

How to bring down America…

1. Put Bill Clinton in office as potus.
2. Pay the Clinton’s to shrink the military.
3. Pay the Clinton’s to sell American military technology.
4. Feed Bill Clinton sleezy hookers; he’ll sell everything.
5. Put Hillary in as Sec of State; we own her.
6. Buy up American corporations; we know how to use profits.

G.W.Bush set them back a few years, but look who just donated hundreds of millions to the Obama campaign. As OBL has stated on numerous occasions, patience, patience, and more patience…

Shameless indeed! Pathetic companies like Pepsi spew their liberal propaganda disguised inside these warm, fuzzy puff pieces. They line their pockets while capitalizing on the mush-filled brains of America’s youth who have, for the most part, been fully indoctrinated into socialist thought by our public education system.

In the mean time true American patriots, such as Sears Holding Co., (Sears, and Kmart) have quietly gone about their business helping American troops by paying the difference in salaries and maintaining benefits for their called-up military reservist employees (going well beyond the legal requirements). Sears has also provided $2 million to the National Military Family Association (NMFA) to develop and enhance programs that address the unique challenges faced by military families.

I have never worked for Sears and I don’t own stock in the company. But I shop there.

The O (Oprah not Obama) has definitely lost a LOT of steam since her embrace of The One over Hillary and snub of Palin.

To understand WHY this has happened, you have to know how she GOT to her exalted throne: Her core audience is dysfunctional, disaffected women (mostly white) who want to be emotionally soothed and more or less told what to do.

Her pick of Obama over Hillary and later Palin snub proved to her audience that her blackness trumps her sisterhood. Given that “the sisterhood” is what MADE HER she has alienated a lot of her base she will likely never get back.

Kudos to Palin for in turn snubbing the O’s invitation “after the election”. I suspect the O will be far less relevant in the future.

PepsiCo owns Gatorade. Powerade is Coke’s version.

For the others out there wondering, Quaker Oats, Aunt Jemima, Rice-a-Roni, Pepsi (duh), Aquafina (I saw someone ask what bottled water they make) Gatorade, Propel, Stokely Van Camp, Frito Lay and anything affiliated with these brands are owned by PepsiCo. They also have a bottling contract with Starbucks for those little bottles you find in the gas station if I recall correctly.

Also, the Yum! brands are no longer majority owned by PepsiCo (but they do still have a large share in them) – Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers, Taco Bell, KFC, A&W restaurants.

I usually think boycotts are petty and ineffectual, but I’ll be danged if I ever buy another Pepsi product. The revolution has to begin somewhere. It might as well begin with a bunch of confused Pepsi executives wondering why their stock is tanking, and belatedly offering a line of cans celebrating all past American presidents as a clumsy, desperate peace offering.

Of course, if we all stop drinking Pepsi, we’ll just be setting the stage for the Pepsi Bailout in 2010…

But looking at that website, I feel inspired to sound off a hearty “F*ck you!” at Pepsi and every one of those asshats on it. Seriously. I’m usually calm and mild-mannered, prone to pray for people that piss me off, but this kind of BS and unity crap… screw all those people. If they were anything but the lowest, most base hypocrites, we’d have seen that from them during the last eight years. But now, because their guy got in, we’re all supposed to put “the good of the country” first, i.e. approve of whatever that socialist b’stid does. Eff that noise.

Amen to that. A modest amount of decorum would keep some of these nitwits from piling on the Obama Love Wagon for a decent interval. Elections are always contentious, and the people who didn’t vote for any given candidate are likely to be a bit sore about it. It’s not only bad business to jump in bed with someone who was strongly opposed by much of the country, it’s insulting, and I’d think the same way in the highly unlikely event they ever did something like this for a Republican (whose elections are never hailed as bursts of hope, times of change, or moments of “national unity.”)

Besides the obvious hypocrisy of all this, and the way monarchial worship runs so deeply counter to the American spirit of individualism (and a wise distrust of all politicians,) the disturbing thing about the Obama-worship is how invested it can make the populace in overlooking his failures. It’s true that all this Pepsi-can kowtowing is going to look absurd if Obama is the epic fail I suspect he will be, but at a certain point, the public will become unwilling to admit such a failure… they won’t stop applauding and worshipping, because it will make them feel stupid for ever having felt otherwise.

LOL – no, if it’s not a Coke product, it’s sweet tea!

Sweet fancy Moses but that was lame.

The only person I recognized right off the bat was that squeaky little Jeff Gordon, and he was the most tolerable of all of them.

I need to know that the following products I prefer are not in somehow forwarding a liberal agenda

Depending on how you reconcile this and this, you may or may not want to scratch Ford of your list (Ford owns Volvo).

I’m not much of a Pepsi drinker anyway, so I can live without it. But you can take my Dew from my cold, dead hands. I know it’s nothing but sugar, but it’s a serious addiction in my family.

Here’s a list of Pepsi Products. Take care not to buy one by accident.
