Cool.

Now I have another purpose for my own organic garden. I can grow veggies to protest U.S. involvement with the U.N.

Ever heard of milorganite? It’s made from human waste and should never be used on edible plants.

Brat on January 14, 2009 at 1:10 PM

But it’s hella-awesome on lawns!

catmman on January 14, 2009 at 1:40 PM

Let's be clear. The reason we don't use milorganite to fertilize food crops is the "high" level of heavy metals in it, not because it is of human waste. Fine and dandy, and it does a great job greening up the lawn, but here in MA much of fertilizer produced by the MWRA (our version of milorganite) is shipped by rail car to FL where it is used on orange groves. Why? Because the state's acceptable level of heavy metals in fertilizer is by order of magnitude lower than that of the federal government or of FL. Thus, when testing determines that the fertilizer exceeds the state limits it get shipped elsewhere. Ironic that there are people served by the MWRA that cannot fertilize their lawn with a byproduct of their own poop, yet can have a glass of orange juice this morning produced with that same product. In fact, cities and towns can obtain as much of this fertilizer for their municipal use as they like for free (shipping and applying not included) yet I know of one city that flatly rejects the offer because they do not want to "contaminate" their city parks with any heavy metals (which they themselves contributed to producing) and opt for a fertilizer made from poultry by-products (yuck). Gives new meaning to the phrase "my s*** doesn't stink", doesn't it?

And people wonder why I'm a conservative...

Fresh from the grove to you, cheers!

Can you imagine granny, with a checkerboard headscarf minding the garden...oh my, the bigotry imagery that comes to light with planting a garden...maybe cotton, watermelon, or tobacco?
No a garden is not a good idea...let's shoot for world peace...

We all should plant some tomatoes. The ones they sell in stores are not worth chewing. If you have 2 square feet in a sunny location, you can grow two full size tomato plants in homemade or store bought containers.

May be we should call them Victory Over the UN Gardens.

Here's a hymn we can all enjoy:

Church Congregation: [singing] Now is a time of great decision / Are we to stay or up and quit? / There's no avoiding this conclusion: / Our town is turning into shit. Amen.

Great Leader is pleased.
