Palin battles Anchorage Daily News over Trig Trutherism

An obligatory link on a day when she’s ripping “pathetic” smearmongering bloggers in the pages of Esquire and the Trig Truther-in-chief is poised to win Best Blog. She serves:
[I]s your paper really still pursuing the sensational lie that I am not Trig’s mother? Is it true you have a reporter still bothering my state office, my very busy doctor (who’s already set the record straight for you), and the school district, in pursuit of your ridiculous conspiracy?…
Come on Mr. Doyle and Mr. Dougherty, I so desperately want to have even a tiny bit of faith in the ADN.
And the ADN volleys:
You may have been too busy with the campaign to notice, but the Daily News has, from the beginning, dismissed the conspiracy theories about Trig’s birth as nonsense. I don’t believe we have ever published in the newspaper a story, a letter, a column or anything alleging a coverup about your maternity. In fact, my integrity and the integrity of the newspaper have been repeatedly attacked in national forums for our complicity in the “coverup.” I have personally received more than a 100 emails accusing me and the paper of conspiring to hide the truth…
If that’s true, then why has [an ADN reporter] been asking questions about Trig’s birth?
Because we have been amazed by the widespread and enduring quality of these rumors. I finally decided, after watching this go on unabated for months, to let a reporter try to do a story about the “conspiracy theory that would not die” and, possibly, report the facts of Trig’s birth thoroughly enough to kill the nonsense once and for all.
They dug around and ended up killing the piece because, and I quote, “the story doesn’t work if it can’t show that the claims are false. It’s only a ‘bizarre conspiracy theory’ if you can demonstrate that it’s untrue, which is why we wanted to document the truth.” Except that they already have documented it, replete with a letter from Palin’s doctor. We’ve done more with less to debunk the Obama birth-certificate insanity on this very site. Exit question: Lefty Matt Taibbi didn’t need exhaustive documentary proof to make the case that 9/11 Truthers are deranged. Why does the ADN need still more evidence to make that case about Sullivan?

Technically the person serving also does the volley; that’s why it’s called a serve and volley. The other person would have to return serve before they can run to the net and volley.

Seriously, after all this the woman entertains the thought of running for office again? Hasn’t she “got it” yet? The MSM will skewer her no matter what she says/does/thinks/wears/reads or gives birth to. It’s insane.

The ADN is a left-wing McClatchy rag that has become home-away-from-home for every PDS sufferer in the world. I guess the Axelturfer strategy is to target Alaskans and try to get them to surrender to Palin Fatigue like they got everyone to suffer from Bush Fatigue.
I sometimes try to do battle in the comments there, but there are dozens (hundreds) of left-wing trolls and that newspaper apparently can’t afford to hire anyone to moderate their comments.
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 1:34 PM
They also think that either a) Tripp Johnston doesn’t exist or b) that he hasn’t really been born yet. Because simple reproductive math destroys their theory.
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 1:36 PM
How to avoid the necessity of ADN reporter having to ask any q’s to debunk rumor: math.
Trig’s birthday is April 18 2008. Bristol gave birth December 29 2008, so to have both babies, she got pregnant within a week after giving birth to Trig (I don’t think that’s even possible, is it? Isn’t the minimum period of time something like 3 weeks?) And even then, let’s say she got pregnant 21 days later on or around May 7…that would mean her Dec baby was born at only 7 and 1/2 months, so he was premature and should have been in an incubator, underweight and closely watched. HOWEVER, he was 7 lbs 4 oz, so NO, Bristol did not give birth to Trig.
Duh.

the_nile on January 13, 2009 at 1:37 PM
So the newspaper killed the story because it proved she was the mother…they didn’t want to run a story showing how out of touch the people with these theories are?
Or are they stating that because they can’t prove that the nut cases are wrong, they won’t run the story, so they will just let the story linger…
The paper has a bizarre way of stating what a story is or sisn’t.
Just say “We looked into the story, and found only loonies believe she is not the mother…there is no other proof anywhere that she is not the mother”.
Truthers are never satisfied…
right2bright on January 13, 2009 at 1:38 PM
And even if they HAD
they’d say they were photoshopped fakes and ask to compare them with the real thing.
scalleywag on January 13, 2009 at 1:39 PM
It is basically impossible to disprove a conspiracy theory. Anyone who doesn’t believe it is either 1) in on the conspiracy or 2) refuses to face “facts”. And if there aren’t enough “facts” well that just proves the cover up.

I heard that Todd Palin is actually a cyborg and he has killed his competitors so as to win the Iron Dog snowmachine race five times.
I know it sounds ridiculous and creepy and makes you want to hold me at gunpoint until the cops arrive, but until this controversy is put to rest by a newspaper, I just won’t be satisfied that it’s false.

Given the current media coverage, why would anyone in thier right mind run for political office, especially if you are a Republican.
The only people who will run in the future are either brain dead, corrupt, or seriously self absorbed. Or worse, we will see an influx of washed-up entertainers who have spent thier lives dealing with this type of craziness.
It will be a long time before you see the likes of Daniel Patrick Moynihan or Jack Kemp, both of whom were very smart and good for the country. Moynihan, for instance, was not afraid to take on difficult issues, like social security or the negative effects of out-of-wedlock births by African Americans, that were tough to address substanitively and politically. And Kemp was a key advocate for the tax cuts and other supply-side policies implemented by Reagan.
If my son or daughter told me that they were going to run for office, I think I’d tell them to run for the hills. It really isn’t worth the hassle.

Part of me wishes she would just do a DNA test on camera, but I’d rather see her tell them all to “suck it.” Alas, Sarah has more class than that, and even a DNA test wouldn’t shut up the truthers… it would just spawn more complex conspiracy theories. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it sane.

lol. Sorry, that’s how deranged they’ve become.
I can understand a person’s desire to know what really happened on 911 and to still have questions years after the fact and to fall for some of these conspiracy theories because a lot of them seem pretty convincing until you see through it all. But this? This is all about a certain politicians family and who gave birth to whom? It’s not a matter of national security. The obsession is really pretty disturbing.

Obama admitted to cocaine use, started his political career at the home of domestic terrorists, got his competition kicked off the ballot, said his policies would bankrupt the coal industry, and voted “present” more times than not…but none of that matters when you are the anointed one.

I sent this to the Anchorage DN editor, but obviously he’s too much of a tool to use common sense.
Trig was born on April 18.
Tripp was born December 28.
That’s barely over 8 months.
So to actually believe Bristol gave birth to Trig, you have to believe that after giving birth to a Downs Syndrome child, she had unprotected sex and got pregnant again almost immediately.
This, despite the fact that doctors recommend resting the pelvis (no sex) for 6 weeks after giving birth.
You would also have to believe that Tripp is at least 3-4 weeks premature.
You also have to be a total douchebag.

“We’ve done more with less to debunk the Obama birth-certificate insanity.” No, you’ve done less with more on that. If it’s “insanity”, then why do you keep bringing it up?…Obama’s sealed records are enough proof to believe that BO’s hiding (more than) something, but apparently it’s just insane to question The One.
When it comes to Sarah giving birth to a Down’s syndrome baby, (when she could have aborted him), well, the lefties just have to debunk that; it’s just plain unbelievable and worthy of a barrage of lies to discredit her. Strangely, the feminists haven’t made head way in their own ranks; liberal men (and women) hate women like Palin, (she represents everything they are not).
They can’t attack her track record, so they focus on her reproductive choices. These people are lower than low. If Mother Mary had been interviewed by the MSM they would have asked the same questions. They will not stop until Sarah doesn’t run for POTUS.

The ADN is really, really left-wing (surprising for so red a state). A couple weeks ago they published an editorial that talked about rockets simply “nagging” Israel, compared to Israeli airstrikes. My blood pressure goes up every time that I read that newspaper. A LOT of Alaskans canceled their subscriptions after the ADN endorsed Obama for prez.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote an interesting column during Al Gore’s attempt to steal the 2000 election, where he said he had come to the conclusion that a new and dangerous level of weirdness had taken control in America. A weirdness that even he found disconcerting.
He said the old things, kidnapping, murder, auto accidents, are disturbing and life threatening but their very predictability reassures us that things are still in control.
I totally agree with the late Mr. Thompson that something snapped in America during the 2000 recount, and we’ve never been the same. Each year seems to pull us further into a void, and it’s like we’re so deep we can’t find our bearings anymore.
Thompson:
He was prophetic, something snapped in 2000.

Actually, this is not about Sarah Palin at all. This is about what I stated in the Ann Coulter thread yesterday. This is about a GOP or conservative politician saying “hello” and being completely shredded and branded as (insert every single un-PC label here) by the mass media and making that the ‘conventional wisdom’, while the Democrats actually participate in every single corrupt, racist, anti-American, anti-military and/or illegal activity out there… and get away with it all… all the while accusing and blaming their opponents for doing everything they are getting away with.
This is much bigger than Sarah Palin. Palin is only the object of this now, because she is the hottest thing the GOP has put forth to date. If Sarah Palin gives into this demonizing and bullying and decides they cannot take it or its not worth it, the Left will have won and then they will set their sites on the next right-leaning politician the GOP puts forth. This will NEVER end. This is their game plan.
And the Right better damn well be ready to fight this sh!t. Because it is not going to stop. This is the new playing field the Left and the mass media and the Democrats have created. If the Right is not willing to fight on that playing field, then the Left has already won.
Michael in MI on January 13, 2009 at 2:21 PM
There’s another option: People who love America enough to fight for it. You know, like the founders, who faced far greater risks than bad press.
It is discouraging, but perspective helps.
cs89 on January 13, 2009 at 2:22 PM
Sorta like the anti-theists who can’t “demonstrate that it’s [God's existence] untrue.”
davidk on January 13, 2009 at 2:24 PM
And this is the plan of the Left. They want to discourage anyone who has the ‘Coulters’ to stand up to the Left — and put them in their place and call them out on their BS and lies — to not run for political office. They are going to demonize and smear and intimidate to try to break anyone who tries to cross them.
This is the new playing field. This has been the playing field since 2004, at least. The Right better get used to it and better be ready to fight this BS.
Michael in MI on January 13, 2009 at 2:27 PM
Heh – I made a comment over there that Obama was goofy-looking, and the same people who were slamming Palin turned around and told me that I had been reported for “hate speech”.
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 2:31 PM
Exactly right. Judge Thomas called it, “High tech lynching.”
With Gov. Palin, it’s high tech clit circumcision.
We (conservatives–The GOP seems to have wimped out) need to fight it and show people like the palins that we are for them.
davidk on January 13, 2009 at 2:32 PM
If the media and lefties succeed in discouraging Palin from a future political career, they will shift fire to Bobby Jindal or whoever the next front-runner is. It’ll be all-exorcism-all-the-time and making fun of his name, and we’ll have Jindal Derangement Syndrome instead of BDS or PDS.
They are now addicted to Derangement Syndromes as their primary political tactic.
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 2:34 PM
So, Palin should play the bait for the the nutjobs & media while other Repubs sneak under the radar of the media?
They better pay Palin back with a cabinet position. Maybe Energy?
portlandon on January 13, 2009 at 2:34 PM
Here’s the thing: I still don’t understand what Palin gets out of the conspiracy or how she would be hurt if it turned out to be true? My support would have been no less fervent if Bristol had been presented as Trig’s mother upfront, and it wouldn’t diminish even a little if it were revealed now that Sarah took the baby as her own in order to protect her daughter.
The Left really does not understand how this family values thing really works, do they? It’s not about being perfect or even pointing fingers at everyone who isn’t.
Kensington on January 13, 2009 at 2:34 PM
Here’s a prime example of what I was talking about. Here is the entire context of Sarah Palin talking to Charlie Gibson about Russia. She said all of this, yet the only thing the Left, the mass media and Hollywood take out of it is “You can see Russia from my house!” And now that is the what the majority of the ignoramuses in the American public remember about Palin. It is absolutely pathetic. But this is the power of the mass media and what every single right-leaning person must deal with in this country now. We have to fight it and push back and knock these f***ers out or we are toast and so is our country.
Michael in MI on January 13, 2009 at 2:36 PM

Yes, but that’s true of Republicans in general.

The time allowed by doctors for a mother to resume sexual relations is six weeks after a natural birth: four, if the recovery was quick. About ten weeks, if there was a C-section involved.
Therefore, there is NO WAY IN HELL that Trig isn’t Sarah’s. The math doesn’t add up at all.
But Sullivan thinks he knows better than the doctors and the women who have gone through the birth experience.
Earth to Sullivan: Get a damn clue, and leave the Palins alone!

Didn’t Ann Coulter just tell us that it’s wrong to be a single mother? Haven’t read the Coulter book, but it seems to be that if a governor of a state has a single mother daughter, she is condoning the behavior. If it is OK for her daughter, certainly it is OK for the rest of society. We all lead by example, don’t we?

This is all about Palin’s stand on life and faith. The left can’t stand it!!!! Just like they couldn’t stand the faith of George W. It drives them nuts because in order to kill babies, make homosexuality the preferred lifestyle (it cuts the birthrate after all), and elevate polar bears, wolves, snail darters and spotted owls past humans, they must stomp out people of faith. At the risk of being repetitive, Coulter’s book Godless tells it right. Reading this book, before Palin ever came to the fore, we knew this would be their reaction. We pray that more like her will come to the battle for our country!
Christian Conservative on January 13, 2009 at 3:05 PM
Oh, so Coulter believes that it is OK for couples to live together (or not live together) and have children if they aren’t married? I didn’t realize that. That is a whole new topic. I didn’t realize she said it was OK to have illegitimate children. So she doesn’t believe in marriage? Good to know.
But you are right, I haven’t read the book, and I won’t read the book. She doesn’t write the kind of humor I enjoy. Although, bitter sarcasm can be quite witty.
Sally S on January 13, 2009 at 3:09 PM
Its your own fault, AP, for letting Sullivan win. All you had to do was put a link in the sidebar. You got tons of votes with barely any outward effort to tell your fanbase to vote.
jimmy the notable on January 13, 2009 at 3:14 PM
Plus, they are getting married. It’s not an ideal arrangement, but no one is holding up this situation as something to be celebrated. Rather, we are celebrating that two young people are making the best of their bad choices (mainly premarital sex and getting pregnant out of wedlock) and hoping for the best.
Kensington on January 13, 2009 at 3:14 PM
I suspect you know this, but just to be clear:
The Palin’s have acknowledged that this is “not an ideal” situation. In other words, they didn’t want Bristol to get pregnant out of wedlock, but she did, and now they are continuing to support her rather than pushing for a quiet abortion or abandoning her and their grandchild.
Bristol and Levi are planning a wedding. She may be a single mother now, but Levi is apparently quite involved and they will soon be married.
FWIW, most evangelicals encourage and support marriage with eyes wide open to the fact that not everybody lives up to the ideal. It’s called reality, sin, grace, and forgiveness.

Jim Treacher on January 13, 2009 at 3:23 PM

Which is why it is extremely frustrating to see that it seems the Right/Conservatives/GOP still just don’t get it about the Left’s strategy. They keep focusing on Palin and getting outraged, as if she is some kind of special case. She is just the blueprint for all future attacks. If the Right still does not see that and still does not realize that this is an all out war and that the Right cannot keep ‘fighting by the Geneva Conventions’ while the Left takes on the ‘tactics of the terrorists’ (absolutely no rules), then the GOP and the Right are done for the foreseeable future.
(for those who are quick to howl, the GC and terrorists examples are analogies. I’m not calling the Left terrorists, simply making an analogy)

I know E. but I was just addressing Sally’s discussion of Miss Coulter’s beliefs or unbeliefs. Respectfully
thomasaur on January 13, 2009 at 3:25 PM
Sorry, I didn’t mean it as an attack. It’s just something that seems to need repeating.
Esthier on January 13, 2009 at 3:28 PM
Of course she does. She’s just trying to be clever–but instead is just stupid.

No, but see, in that one picture on the Internets, she hardly even looks pregnant!!
Andrew Sullivan questioning a woman’s womb is like Stevie Wonder questioning Picasso’s use of color.
That wouldn’t be very beta, now, would it?

Do you folks realize that the one constant in the attacks levelled against Sarah Palin by the MSM and the nutroots is that they divert Republicans from attacking the person that should be receiving their full attention, that is Obama? This is the primary purpose of everything said about Sarah Palin. Why Sarah Palin was and is a threat to Obama is that she focused attention to Obama and caused an ueasiness in the Lefties and the MSM when they knew she hit paydirt regarding his past associations, his slip-up in his conversation with Joe the Plumber (sharing the wealth comment) and her assertion that he was ‘waving the white flag of surrender to the terrorists’. And thinking ahead to 2012, the MSM and the nutroots out of the way, so that she doesn’t hit paydirt again during his administration. The problem with the GOP: they often forget who the real threat to the individal freedom that Americans posssess by way of the Constitution is, and that is Obama.

…which Sulli has been promoting with a prominent link on his front page throughout the voting. Hot Air is running a strong second, despite running only a quick “Show us some love” headline link a few days back.
Jobius on January 13, 2009 at 3:41 PM
Look, I’m with you on this for the most part, but reality must be faced on its own terms. Until she gets a ring on her finger, Bristol is a single mom. It’s not just a technicality, and it is a real concern.
My roommate’s girlfriend, a single mother (and a terrible one), got pregnant before she and her then-boyfriend were to get married. Surprise! They never got married, and now a little boy lives a life of chaos.
The odds of Sarah Palin’s grandchild having a bad life like that are low, thank goodness, but the facts are what they are. Until there’s a wedding, this is a single mother situation, unfortunately.

Stop being rational AP. You’ve entered a world where the sky is purple and Sarah Palin was the shooter on the grassy knoll. Don’t you understand that the letter is a fake and is part of the conspiracy? Just like those pictures of Palin standing with a local TV reporter and looking pregnant are faked? That reporter is part of the conspiracy too. She actually did a piece on the pictures last night after the Troofers harassed her for months about them. She’s been ignoring them, so, I assume that the knife fight between Palin and the ADN about Trig Trutherism this week finally gave her an excuse to refute the Troofers on the record. Not surprisingly, the Troofers have infested her post about it with their insanity.
This is just like any other conspiracy. It doesn’t matter what ‘proof’ Palin presented them with, they would call it fake or ignore it. Her spokesman said (and I’m paraphrasing, obviously) on a local radio show the other day that the Trig Truthers are never going to let this go, but he doesn’t think that that’s an excuse for a ‘legitimate’ news source to research it or give credence to it.
meltenn on January 13, 2009 at 4:03 PM
No, not if the father is there. Coulter’s talking about women who raise children without the father. Even if they never get married, but he stays in the picture, Bristol won’t qualify.
Or to put it another way, do you consider Goldie Hawn a single mother?
Esthier on January 13, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Wow, that story at KTVA is completely infested with Troofers from Palin’s Deceptions. They sure do swarm, don’t they?
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 4:17 PM
Try not to fake it . Coulter says that children being raised without their father is highly overrepresented in crime and other problems. And that single motherhood is marketed by liberals.
the_nile on January 13, 2009 at 4:17 PM
Not exclusively. If I remember correctly (I only have the audio book, not the hard copy) Coulter cites that the bad statistics refer to “married” versus “unmarried.” Shacking up and having kids is not nearly as stable as getting married and having kids. And having a dad who’s in the picture by proximity isn’t nearly as stabilizing as having a dad who’s in the picture because he’s married to the mother.
I think you are statistically wrong about that. The marriage is significant. It’s not just a detail. As for Goldie Hawn, yeah, I think the point is that a woman takes considerable risk in agreeing to an arrangement like hers, especially if they don’t have Goldie Hawn money.
Kensington on January 13, 2009 at 4:23 PM
OK, I agree there.
But let’s be honest here, baring something tragic, those kids are going to get married.
As to what Coulter said in the book, I’ll have to admit that I don’t own it. I was just going by what she’s said in interviews.
Esthier on January 13, 2009 at 4:30 PM
I think it is wonderful the way the lefties keep her name in the news cycle, really it isn’t so bad as long as she pushes back now and then. Palin 2012 because they really are clueless on the Left..they don’t even know when they are being played…Player!
