Is Obama meeting with Rush Limbaugh tonight? Update: Nope

posted at 7:35 pm on January 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sounds nutty, I know, but Ambinder breaks news that The One’s dining with “conservative opinion leaders” in Maryland, evidently at George Will’s house. Among the attendees: Bill Kristol, David Brooks, and … anyone else?

Coincidentally, I got an e-mail from a reader shortly after noon noting that Limbaugh had a surprise guest host today who spent the beginning of the show dropping hints that Rush had been called away to urgent business in D.C. and that it might have to do with something he said yesterday about giving Obama advice. I ignored it — but now they’re dropping hints on the EIB homepage, too.

Is this happening? The One’s charm offensive is actually going to beat a path to the golden microphone? What’s next, drinks with Coulter? Exit question: Whither the blogosphere in a post-partisan age?

Update: No Rush at dinner, a source tells HuffPo.

Obama is interested in atleast 2 terms and Democrat rule for decades. That means he must govern as a centrist and keep approval ratings above 50%….the far left have to let him get away with doing alot of conservative minded things as well.

HornetSting on January 13, 2009 at 7:45 PM

Rush is the REAL one.

Why wouldn’t he meet with Rush? The failed legacy of FDR is another Raw Deal scam. America knows how to fix these types of economics problems, the legacy of Ronald Reagan laid out the blueprint.

Heck, you could even ask Bush for advice as he recued the economy after 9/11.

But Obama is so wise, such crackle of magic, he is such a strong Marxist, I doubt he has the sense to actually listen, much less implement. That is, if he actually wanted to fix the free market economy and not take it over and make it into a Soviet style do nothing economy make believe.

Nope I’m sorry, all we will get from Obama is jive talking, hoodwinking and bamboozling. You watch.

Of yeah, and Hillary ‘soft power’ as she pays off old debts and garners more millions for Bill.

Don’t expect Rush to be like O’Reilly. Rush is always civil, but doubt that he will throw conservativism under the bus for the Bamster. He volunteered yesterday to advise Obama on solving the economic crisis. Maybe the 0 took him up on it, but his primary policy advice was to reduce taxes on the rich and corporations and foster the free market trickle down economy!

BigWyo on January 13, 2009 at 8:08 PM

Whither the blogosphere in a post-partisan age?

That’s unlikely to say the least—but if Obama doesn’t do anything un-American or anti-American, like the Generational Theft Act that is already in the works, and truly governs from the center—who knows? But he won’t be able to make everybody happy all of the time so political blogs won’t be going anywhere.

And of course the entire notion is absurd.

FloatingRock on January 13, 2009 at 8:09 PM

Something’s going on. Mark Davis was being very cryptic here in Dallas today about where he was going to be tomorrow (Wed.) and that an announcement on thenews during the latter hours of Limbaugh’s show he would… or more correctly “could” divulge where he is.

Guess we’ll know something tomorrow.

44Magnum on January 13, 2009 at 8:10 PM

If so, there will be a deal offered:

“Tone it down, Rush, and we will allow you to keep your show. And just maybe the IRS will forget about those random ‘fine tooth comb’ audits every year.”

My only question is whether Limbaugh will choose career over principles.

Remember back in late ’90 or early ’91 when he was getting fairly critical about Bush 41, got invited to the Whitehouse and emerged from THAT meeting as pretty much a ‘team player’, who refused to say what went on during that meeting???

Be cool if Michelle got invited. I have no doubt that HER principles come before career, and we would get an honest report of what was said.

I sent him this:

Hey Rush,

There’s rumors that you’re meeting with the One. Keeping with the Ayn Rand theme, doesn’t it sound like the Washington meetings that all the planners summon each other to? Aren’t you giving him the victim’s sanction by letting him to appear as if he is taking your view into account? What compromise can there be between economic freedom and his central planning? His plan is to socialize the economy all while making it appear that he has considered the opinions of all the greatest thinkers.

Of course it is only a rumor that you’re meeting him… And I know that you surely know all this. I actually happen to be reading Atlas Shrugged for the first time and have just gotten to the chapter where this happens.

Obama: Look, I have to give my people some meat, so I’m pushing for a version of the Fairness Doctrine that has a special exemption for just you guys. You with me?

Rush: (blows some cigar smoke at O-man) Nice start, Messiah. But as a precondition, we don’t even start until you call your thugs off of the Cuda, kapich? We don’t do those things to family. Hmmmm…who was it that said that?

Rahm: You cigar chomping neanderthal. In case you didn’t notice we got POTUS and Congress.

Rush: Fine, Messiah, you gonna let your ballerina make your calls, huh? Big surprise. I’ll say it again. I’m out of here without the Hockeymom clause. (starts to get up).

Obama: (Stands up as Rush does and puts his hand on Rush’s arm saying). First of all, Rahm? Backoff. Look, we all gotta work together. I want a second term, you guys want ratings. We’ll add the Cuda clause. But, on one condition. She doesn’t run in 2012 against me. You run the Huckster, or another white dude or maybe …. Maverick again.

Hannity: Don’t even get me started on that f’in traitor.

Rush: Hmmmmm. Fine. And the last provision, you’ll arrange things for Olby’s quick retirement and replacement with Maddow?

Obama: You got it.

Rush: Damn, she’s not bad. What a waste though. Oh, and by the way, my boys didn’t have nothing to do with Chrissy’s nosebleed? Dontchano.

Obama: I know. It’s a deal Rush. (Obama takes the new cigar from Rush and lights up).

Hannity: This is bullshit. The Cuda could drop any of you. I don’t see the point, El Rushbo.

Rush: Sean Sean Sean, you gotta look at the big picture and that 49th state is as good as Pluto, WAY out there. GB (Glen Beck)? Go get MR. Ratings in here (O’Reilly) so we can finish the formalities.

Hey moron! Being critical of Obama does not by definition make one afflicted with ODS. It is fundamentally wrong of you to tell any critic to STFU and support the filthy bastard at this point.

Less than a week before the coronation of a filthy Chicago politician who is attached to multiple federal investigations, the bastard has yet to prove he is worthy of our trust and support. He has yet to prove that he intends to change Washington and the fact that there isn’t a single no voice or idea in his choices for his cabinet prove that the bastard was (once again) a big fat liar.

Let me make it clear so that even the extremely mentally and intellectually challenged like you can completely understand. Criticism of a President or incoming President is not the same as “derangement syndrome.” It is a legitimate response to differences of opinion. It is only when an administration is charged with engineering the 9/11/01 atrocities for big oil that you can call the speaker deranged.

Barak Hussein Obama has not yet proven that he can be trusted. He is as corrupt Chicago politician with Islamic roots and is experienced. Only idiots like you would think that legitimate questions about the filthy bastard are tantamount to derangement syndrome after six years of listening to morons like you suggesting that Bush killed off 3,000 for Exxon’s bottom line.
