Go, Canada!

Our neighbors to the North continue to impress on the world stage under the sharp and effective governance of Stephen Harper. Alone among the 47-member UN Human Rights Council, Canada voted against a resolution condemning Israel for attacking Hamas in Gaza. A dozen other nations abstained from the motion, which passed 33-1:
Yesterday, Canada was the sole member of the UN Human Rights Council to vote against a resolution, which passed in a 33-1 vote, condemning Israel over its actions in Gaza.
The vote crystallized Canada’s emergence under Stephen Harper’s government as one of Israel’s firmest supporters.
At a meeting in Geneva, Canada asked for a recorded vote to emphasize its complaint that the resolution drafted by Arab, Asian and African countries did not recognize that Israel acted to stop Hamas rocket attacks.
European countries abstained, along with Japan and South Korea, because they felt the resolution lacked balance – it gave only brief mention to rocket attacks. Neither Israel nor the United States are in the 47-member council.
The HRC has been an ongoing anti-Semitic joke for a generation. Its previous incarnation, the Human Rights Commission, which was so blatantly anti-Israel that even Kofi Annan knew it had to be disbanded. Unfortunately, the new panel picked up where the old panel left off, voting to make reviews of Israel’s policies in Gaza and the West Bank a permanent agenda item without even offering a single review of Palestinian terrorism. Iran pushed that through the new HRC in 2006, and it hasn’t looked back from its laughable mandate ever since.
How bad has it gotten? Human Rights Watch accused the revamped HRC of a “one-sided approach” to Israel in September 2006, and HRW is not exactly a lackey of Western nations. They haven’t exactly cut Israel much slack over the years, but even they recognize how anti-Israel the UN has become.
This latest vote is just another example of how badly the UN has fallen under the sway of terror-supporting states and their lackeys. Canada and Harper had the guts to call them on it. The dozen or so abstaining nations apparently did not. Three cheers for Ottawa, the Canadians, and Harper … and three raspberries for the other 46 nations on the Human Rights Council.

Maybe I’ll move to Canada…
On second thought, never mind.

Hooray for Harper and Canada! I’m proud to call you my neighbor today.
tickleddragon on January 13, 2009 at 1:56 PM
Go Canada..
One Question: Why don’t any of these outraged friends of the Palestinians simply ask them to come to their country – or send massive amounts of aid?
Answer – No one gives a rip about the Palestinians – NO ONE !!!
jake-the-goose on January 13, 2009 at 1:57 PM
The country at constant threat of genocide and the country which gives more aid and does more to protect human rights than any other nation on earth not on the HRC. Par for the United Nations course.
BadgerHawk on January 13, 2009 at 1:57 PM
damn good time for a “Western Re-awakening”! A backbone!…it does a country good!
spareadime on January 13, 2009 at 1:58 PM
Second look at Canada!

33-1…reason to disband the U.N.

Revelation 20:7 – And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed … [8] And shall go out to deceive the nations …, to gather them together to battle: … [9] And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compasssed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God …, and devoured them.

A Human Rights Council composed almost entirely of dictatorships is a joke to begin with.

Go Canada.
“UN Human Rights Council” contradiction in terms

Here’s a question…
Isn’t the US on the HRC? Did we abstain?
DakRoland on January 13, 2009 at 2:08 PM
Shame on Europe.
Then again, Europe has a large muslim terrorist population and a large population of terrorist sympathisers so maybe they were breaking with protocol and representing their citizens?
Ares on January 13, 2009 at 2:08 PM
Never mind. I just looked it up and see the US isn’t on the council.
DakRoland on January 13, 2009 at 2:09 PM
If they can just keep those Fr-Canadian liberals from regaining power, they may actually re-grow that pair.
Good on ya, Harper!!
BoomJunkie on January 13, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Well, I think all the Muslim immigrants in Canada should stamp their feet and protest by moving en masse back to their craphole countries of origin.
The hummus industry in Canada may never recover.
NoDonkey on January 13, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Harper is great, but Lyndon Slewidge is still my favorite Canadian. I’m going to have to make a trip to Ottawa some day to see this live.
forest on January 13, 2009 at 2:14 PM
I’m really starting to think about moving to Canada right now…. but someone’s gotta fight the coming civil war.
Chaz706 on January 13, 2009 at 2:14 PM
Well now i have a second reason to like Canada, besides Hockey.
MDWNJ on January 13, 2009 at 2:14 PM
I take back my recent criticisms of Canada. Well, except for the socialized medicine stuff…

For the first time in a long time, I do not “Blame Canada”!
HawaiiLwyr on January 13, 2009 at 2:17 PM
I bet good ol’ Rave Drywall is all happy-joy-joy today.
kirkill on January 13, 2009 at 2:21 PM
I second that motion.
Hey Bambi, you want to cut government spending? How about we stop contributing billions to the anti-Semitic, anti-American, criminally corrupt, and all-around good-for-nothing United Nations? Put away your little budget scalpel and take a friggin’ sledge hammer to the United States’ financial contributions to the U.N.
If you really want to cut “waste” out of our federal budget, I can’t think of a better place to start.
AZCoyote on January 13, 2009 at 2:25 PM
Thank you Canada for standing up and for having more guts than Europe.
CP on January 13, 2009 at 2:34 PM
It’s been said very plainly: the UN is a club whose members are the executives of the world’s governments. If the majority of governments are bad, the club will be bad.
njcommuter on January 13, 2009 at 2:36 PM
No, and, not being a member, we didn’t do anything.
unclesmrgol on January 13, 2009 at 2:47 PM
The UN is way past its expiration date.
DISSOLVE THE UN
J.J. Sefton on January 13, 2009 at 2:48 PM
Harper’s a good dude. I like him. He’s light years better than the other jack holes we’ve had in a long, long, long time.
Keep it up, Harper!!!
mjk on January 13, 2009 at 2:49 PM
I watch Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday on the NHL Nework. At the end of the Coach Corner Segment Coach Don Cherrie pays tribute to each Canadian soldier who has died serving in Afghanistan. Americans should be more aware of the sacrifices made by our neighbors to the North.
jerryofva on January 13, 2009 at 2:50 PM
Yeah, where is Mr. Rywall?
Congratulations, ol’ buddy, on the righteous and courageous stance of Mr. Harper and your fellow countrymen.
You should be very proud. You are, aren’t you?
kingsjester on January 13, 2009 at 2:55 PM
The UN is fine for some tasks, but all the special committees are pointless. Cut the fat out of it. Keep the big forum, the translators, and continue to work on the things you CAN change through the UN like state policy in different countries.
But kill the side projects. They’re a waste of time, money, and attention.
Karmashock on January 13, 2009 at 2:56 PM
I agree, but I also have my wife to add to those.

Don’t forget about Rush!
revolutionismyname on January 13, 2009 at 3:11 PM
I saw Rush in ‘77, with UFO, on Rush’s A Farewell to Kings tour. Xanadu will always be my favorite Rush song. The concert was incredible. Sadly, and especially after Hemispheres, Rush lost its musical edge, and concerned itself with getting radio airplay. I held on until Moving Pictures, but lost interest in the band after that.
Still, it was a fantastic concert.
OhEssYouCowboys on January 13, 2009 at 3:19 PM
The Globe and Mail has editorialized in support; the National Post and Toronto Sun will likely agree. The Toronto Star has put out a story sniveling about how Canada is no longer being even handed. They will have some difficulty straddling this issue editorially, however, because the Liberal leader (the party they support) has come out almost 4-square behind PM Harper’s view that Israel has the right to defend itself, and that the blame for civilian casualties in Gaza can be laid at Hamas’ doorstep.
The CBC has been silent so-far, but will oppose anything P.M. Harper supports.
That is just the Ontario and national stuff…regional will vary.
Blaise on January 13, 2009 at 3:26 PM
Celine Dion cancels that out.
Besides, I’ve always wondered whether Geddy Lee is really a chick.

Stephen Harper is the bomb — the man is such a capable leader.

Now if only Canada would forcibly annex Minnesota away from the United States.

To pay the bills.
OhEssYouCowboys on January 13, 2009 at 4:13 PM
Why no criticism of America’s completely pro-Israel resolution? Anyone who says that one side is completely in the right and the other completely in the wrong is a radical ideologue. In this case, the United States and the United Nations are merely two faces of the same absurd coin.
Mark Jaquith on January 13, 2009 at 4:32 PM
The Toronto Star – naturally – calls his a betrayal of Canada’s (largely fictitious) reputation for being a ‘fair minded moderator.” Thank God Mr. Harper has an ounce of common sense.
KillerKane on January 13, 2009 at 4:36 PM
Because it’s the right thing to do both morally and intellectually.
According to the radical idealogues who believe it’s OK for terrorist organizations to lob rockets at civilian jooooooooos! and not expect to get their asses kicked for it.
True. The sane thing to do would be to allow Hamas to lob rockets at Israel, while Israel agrees to allow their women and children to be killed by those rockets.
See everyone gets something. Very simple.
NoDonkey on January 13, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Gosh..it bings a tear to the eye. Canada our neighbor to the north is no longer out in the cold….err well is closer to the US…
kanda on January 13, 2009 at 5:13 PM
The UN prefers Dictatorship to Democracy, terrorist intimidation over rule of law, state run media over freedom of the press and kleptocracies over capitalism. I don’t see that changing anytime soon; but good for Canada anyway.

This is when you find out who your friend are, so that when you had out foreign aid, certain nations get a polite “Fuck You, Asshole”, instead of US taxpayer dollars.
GarandFan on January 13, 2009 at 6:47 PM
I hope Obama was paying attention. He’s going to need some good role models to look up to.

The Human Rights Council is the biggest joke in the history of mankind.
Hawkins1701 on January 13, 2009 at 7:45 PM
Harper is a douchebag. Most Canadians voted against the guy. Harper has voted against the will of the people.
MrX on January 13, 2009 at 8:33 PM
MrX
You sound like an old coalition comrade. You know, the coalition of socialists, separatists and tards that choked to death on turkey over the recent winter festival? I imagine your part of the new grass roots coalition that just emerged on the streets in the last few weeks. You know, Jew Hating Jackals for Peace, made up of socialists, tards and Liberal Muslim voting blocks?
BL@KBIRD on January 13, 2009 at 8:47 PM
That’s just the sort of rapier like wit that could only come from the likes of a brilliant guy like Keith Olbermann. Keith, is that you?
Which goes a long way to explain why he’s in office. Do Canadian election laws provide for the guy who finishes second to assume office? Because that’s just brilliant as well. Did Keith Olbmermann think of that too?
The people who did vote for him or those who didn’t? I’m confused now, but I really appreciate you trying to explain your system to us.
NoDonkey on January 13, 2009 at 10:01 PM
Well, done Stephen Harper. The Lord blesses those who support Israel. Genesis 12:3 says so. God reward you for your courage. Amen.
What does all this mean? This 33 nation against Israel means something. God said in the last days, Jerusalem would be a burden to the entire world and that all the people of the earth would be gathered together against it.
“And in that day (end times) will I (God) make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” Zechariah 12:3
You are witnessing biblical prophecy being fulfilled! The perplexing anti-semitism we see building in our world is leading us to Armageddon. Armageddon is when all nations march against Israel to destroy it.
“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh … I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle.” Zechariah 14:2-4
This is what all the anti-semitism means. There will be a 7 year tribulation and at the end of that 7 years is Armageddon. Just when it looks hopeless for Israel, Jesus will come in judgment, destroying all nations at Armageddon (those who tried to destroy Israel), ending this horrific time, and setting up His Kingdom on earth. That is the extremely abbreviated explanation of how the future is going to go down. Check it out on the Internet.

Sadly Obama is getting ready to send Omar Khadr back to my country.
While Harper excels on the foreign policy front he has been abysmal on the free speech front. You may not know, but Canada has kangaroo courts that prosecute so called hate crimes. We do NOT have freedom of speech and Harper is doing NOTHING to reign in the kangaroo courts.
Faramir on January 14, 2009 at 12:59 AM
Hold that second look at Canada. Harper has done us proud by standing up to the UN human rights commission but he has been spineless when asked to confront Canadian federal and provincial human rights commissions. Without freedom of speech at home, Harper’s defence of Israel looks to be just another electoral move.
