Video: Hamas cheers its “industry of death”
posted at 12:18 pm on January 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
This comes from February 2008, as a Hamas politician explains why his group loves to hide behind women, children, and the elderly. Apparently, Hamas considers death a growth industry, a term used by Fathi Hammad in this speech:
[The enemies of Allah] do not know that the Palestinian people has developed its [methods] of death and death-seeking. For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry, at which women excel, and so do all the people living on this land. The elderly excel at this, and so do the mujahideen and the children. This is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly, and the mujahideen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine. It is as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: “We desire death like you desire life.”
And this is why it makes no sense at all to reward Hamas with statehood in Gaza. It’s a terrorist enclave as it is. What happens when they have statehood and the legitimacy to raise an army and purchase massive amounts of weapons? They will have a million Gazans to use as human shields for all sorts of attacks against the Israelis, much as they already do for their own “bombing machine”.
Death is not a growth industry. It’s a nihilistic industry intended on destroying the state of Israel at the expense of women and children in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel itself. This is why Hamas is no partner for peace under any circumstances, and why Israel has the right idea in attempting to root them out of Gaza permanently.

What a sad, sad, poor group of people.
If it is death they want, it is death they will get. It’s as simple as that.

Of course, perhaps the western media should take note…and stop playing all that propaganda footage folks at CNN, for example, seem to relish showing the poor poor oppressed residents of Gaza. Sort of undercuts Hamas’ readily apparent desired aim…to die.

Of course, they fail to mention the number of their “workers” who are put in place at gunpoint. The idea being that women and children may be “insufficiently enlightened” to place what Hamas regards as appropriately high value on Martyrdom For The Cause.
Hamas has ceased to have any relevance to anything remotely resembling any legitimate aspirations of Palestinians (whatever those may be after they took careful aim and shot themselves in the foot in 1948). They are nihilists, purely and simply. They seek the destruction of Israel, the United States, the Arab world, in fact, the entire world, plus their own destruction as well, purely for its own sake.
Anyone who thinks that Hamas can be “negotiated” with should consider this very carefully. Assuming rationality on the part of the homicidally and/or suicidally insane is never a wise policy.

I can only hope we continue to learn a lesson by listening to our enemy… They use children as shields… It’s a planned and staged event to “force”, thru use of the global MSM, the haters of America, a premature stoppage of victory. When we finally remember, if ever, the lessons of WWII and COMPLETE destruction of our enemy will we ever be safe again. I hope Isreal understands, Americans don’t…

If death is what they truly seek, why are they hiding instead of fighting? The IDF is right there. They are interested only in saving their own cowardly butts and maintaining power.

Hamas, like all good Islamists, celebrates death and blood and destruction, yet the goodwill of many disillusioned people and governments lies with these vultures who thrive on the blood of others.
Christian Amanpour and other useful idiots keep reporting on the “suffering” of the “man in the street”, when in truth the “man in the street” was firing a rocket at truly innocent civilians, while hiding behind the skirts of women and the innocence of children and the helplessness of the hospitalized and the promise of the schools and the “sacred” aura of the mosques…

The moment they use those weapons it stops being an oppressed people striking back and becomes and internationally-recognized act of war. American troops can then, in the name of protecting our ally, invade and disarm the rogue state and bring about regime change.
Now do you see the logic of the two state solution?

I urge the IDF to set up megawatt speakers on the Gaza border, directed towards the sea, playing ‘Like A Virgin’ in an endless loop, loudly.
Since Hamas did was not explicit in the details about how their death wish was to be fulfilled, or the timeframe, I have naturally assumed “slowly” fits their bill.

In my world Menachem Begin was the leader of the Irgun, whose methods included terrorizing Palestinians.
And, in my world he, in later life, shook hands with someone who was every inch his adversary, Yasser Arafat.
Something happened to stop Israel from taking Arafat, as they did Eichmann, and putting him on trial. Could it be that Arafat was more valuable to Israel alive rather than dead? Could it be that leaving Arafat alive saved Israeli lives? Might it be that both Arafat and Begin actually deserved the Nobel Peace Prize they shared?

I think we all agree that rooting out Hamas and destroying their ability to conduct attacks is a worthy objective.
I worry, however, that by indulging their desire to make Gaza’s civilians targets Israel will end up compromising its own long term security goals and in the short term make Hamas more popular than they were before the current operation. I would think that denying Hamas of its avowed tactical aim would be better for Israel and the people of Gaza.

jediwebdude on January 12, 2009 at 1:42 PM
If Israel truly wanted to make targets of Gaza’s civilians, there aren’t enough backhoes and bulldozers in the world to dig the necessary mass graves for the casualties which would result.
Israel is doing what it can to keep those civilians out of the line of fire, respective to the realities of this particular war. If Hamas truly cared about their people, they would work harder on their behalf.
Bishop on January 12, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Israel can only avoid this by using the Ulysses S. Grant method of waging war. I pointed out in a previous comment (on another Hot Air post) that the smallest bone thrown to Hamas before a surrender will allow them their honor — and ability to claim that the hazards to which they subjected their civilians were for the greater good.
It’s why Grant always insisted on unconditional surrender. After he obtained that, he could be gracious and throw a bone or two, but his enemy no longer had their honor whole and entire — they had given it to Grant, and he had given it back, and while they had it, it was no longer theirs — it was Grant’s.
The civilians of Gaza will then understand that Hamas subjected them to the winds of war for no visible gain, and will act accordingly.
A wee bit of war psychology that the Israelis hopefully will take into account — even though we didn’t in Vietnam and have paid the price of that miscalculation over and over in following conflicts.
unclesmrgol on January 12, 2009 at 1:48 PM
Nice try. Can you source the basis for your comment that Israel is indulging their desire to target Gaza civilians? How does Israel deny Hamas their tactical aim of destroying Israel,…bury theri rocket victims and cower?
a capella on January 12, 2009 at 1:49 PM
No. Arafat and the PLO targeted civilians almost exclusively. Begin and the IRGUN targeted military and warned civilians (sounds familiar?) prior to attacks. No difference, you say? Well, in my world, hi-jacking Grandpa on a airplane or killing a vacationing wheelchair bound cruise passenger is very different than bombing the King David Hotel (with prior warning)where the British military were stationed is NOT the same.
As for your claims of Arafat’s “change of heart”…HA! He not only continued terror campaigns on Israel, but he F**ked his own people….stole their money, kept them poor as dirt, used them a spawns for his gains, and prevented them from having their own state during the Clinton Admin.
Why did Begin shake hands with the rat? It was not because Arafat SAVED any lives..it was a choice of being bitten by the one headed snake or the two headed snake!
Comparing the two as equally wrong or evil is ….well….wrong.

You obviously weren’t aware that definitions must be concisely applied without any outside influence: just examine the word and stick it on anything.
“One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.” See how easy that is?
Now we can apply that logic across the board: “One man’s child molester is another man’s lover of human children.”
It’s easy when you have the code book and don’t mind leaving out critical reasoning.
