It seems as though the pro-illegal portion of the GOP has taken a cue from the Left: by pretending that the modifier illegal doesn’t exist, they can make it appear as if the rest of us are bigots.

A question: If the US decided that it were in its national interest to limit or disallow legal mass immigration would that make the US a bigoted nation?

Aside from illegality, is being inclusive a virtue and is being non-inclusive (exclusive) bad? If so, why?

aengus on January 13, 2009 at 1:09 AM

Why are so many here loyal to Bush but hate McCain? They’re the same person. And frankly Bush is more at fault for the Socialist-Elect than McCain. Not even any combination of Fred, Romney, and Palin would have won the election this year because of the damage to the Republican brand over the last 4 years.

aengus on January 13, 2009 at 1:09 AM

No, but American’s have grown up with an appreciation of immigration and I don’t think there would be much support for ending or cutting immigration down to a trickle.

Aside from illegality, is being inclusive a virtue and is being non-inclusive (exclusive) bad? If so, why?

If by inclusive you are referring to accepting immigrants from any nation, of any race or creed, most would say this is a virtue. I think so to, perhaps with the exception of a certain violent religion, as long as they assimilate. Certainly exclusive immigration, such as only accepting immigrants from white Christian countries, would be interpreted as being bigoted by most American’s.

The Constitution was turned into a bloody pulp over the past few months. Once, to engineer the bailout and a second time to not question whether the Precedent-Elect is even eligible to be POTUS. And, on the second account, people supporting the intentional ignoring of the Constitution have had to go so far to defend their position as to say that they see no Constitutional problem with a dual/multiple citizen as POTUS … but they don’t want the SCOTUS to rule on it, anyway. Our nation hangs by a thread, as it is, though you can’t actually feel how tenuous teh situation is. Those two examples I mentioned in the earlier post would easily tear it apart.

No, but American’s have grown up with an appreciation of immigration

That’s why people like Bush and McCain call us “anti immigrant” rather than “anti illegal immigrant”. Most American’s appose illegal immigration but even more support legal immigration. They hope their lies will create enough confusion for them to filch some additional support.

They hope their lies will create enough confusion for them to filch some additional support.

And of course they hope to falsely paint those apposed to illegal immigration as bigots in order to diminish our support.

FloatingRock on January 13, 2009 at 1:31 AM

It was no leap. Bush is the one that said “anti immigration” without the crucial “illegal” modifier. There’s only one reason he would do that.

FloatingRock on January 12, 2009 at 11:23 PM

No amount of linguistic parsing of his diction would permit us to infer that he was being honest.

baldilocks on January 13, 2009 at 12:23 AM

My son lives in Houston, Texas and it is beginning to look like a third world country. The people there drive like they do in Mexico. They obey few traffic signs and buy no insurance. My daughter also lives there and has been hit four times by illegals. Of course, they had no license, insurance and the car was usually in someone else’s name who had, (you guessed it) no insurance. Crime has also gone through the roof and the mayor has made Houston a sactuary city. Since the governments refuse to protect us, we have got to protect ourselves.

Johan Klaus on January 13, 2009 at 1:40 AM

Bush is right. This is a historic inauguration.

But… we only get to have one first, only 1 1st Black President.

I wanted to be able to admire him. Sure, I could have a beer with the man. But if I could, it wouldn’t matter much.

Saying that, at the very least, I’m confident that tthere is not the same moral hazard in the Oval Office there was 8 years ago. Thank God for small favors… small tit is but it’s still a favor.

Barry is already an embarrassment to America. Corruption before swearing in, and a record of never putting his “right” foot forward. Every opportunity that has crossed his path, he turned away. Does MSM really know what a job they have cut out for them?

The “school yard politics” of some of the members here is truly astounding…………..

…….. in a few days, President George W. Bush will have his last morning daily security briefing, and then will issue his final orders.

After that………

………………… who is to say?

I will not argue points of disagreement with his policies on illegal immigration, the hoax of global warming, or this farce of a bail out……..

I will only know what I know……….. I believe it is going to get worse, not better.

………… the adults are leaving now, and the security, safety, and my country are in the hands of those who have squandered it before.

Sleep on that shmendrick, et al ………….

………… then tell me how dim your bulb is in a month.

Bush says these things because it is part of the [Republican] Presidential tradition to not demean the office.

If you want to see someone demeaning the office, just listen for a bit to Jimmy Carter, who manages to find the worst motives and attach them to Republican Presidents.

I have made the same point, though not as eloquently.
This conservative voted for Bush to avoid Gore and then Kerry. They would have been greater evils. I was not blind to what he meant by “compassionate conservatism”. But I trusted in the backbone of the Republican party to blunt the more liberal of his tendencies. Exactly why I thought the Republicans had a backbone I’ll never know.
I won’t make that mistake again. Evidence of integrity or no support for you.

unclesmrgol on January 13, 2009 at 3:27 AM

Carter couldn’t get anything right while he was POTUS. Jimmy can’t even see to the correct process of building a low income house, beginning with the secure foundation. Compared to The Three Little Pigs, Carter’s economic disaster (1st Little Pig’s house of straw) and international kick-my-ass diplomacy (2nd Little Pig’s house of sticks) left Jimmy without competition to revise the story’s ending as he opened the door to our Constitutional government’s brick home, playing the squealing big, bad wannabe wolf howling in pigskin from the DNC pigsty. From this cauldron emerges Obama.

maverick muse on January 13, 2009 at 7:52 AM

I can’t think of one President I wished to still see after two terms. I think this is a reflection of how much power the federal gov’t now has over our daily lives. I doubt any President can satisfy us greatly. We weren’t supposed to get ourselves into a situation where that was necessary.

Again, the arrogance and self-importance comes front and center. Lit it does just about every time. It must be in the same mentality that this also comes our as well. Ignorance, lies and self-centered, selfish and arrogant. This site is not you. Criticism of your actions is not criticism of this site, it’s criticisms about you. The handful of people on this page participating in this stupid display of ignorance are the people I take issue with. And I am the hell here because of the majority in the community who makes this site special. And if it weren’t for the conservative moonbats that in my opinion infect and spread their disease of lies and arrogance, this place would be as perfect as you could get. This place, conservatism and the republican party is worth fighting for. Fighting for. Not fighting against.

The Dean on January 12, 2009 at 10:57 PM

Nobody here is “loyal” to Bush. Every last one of us has at a bare minimum, two major beefs with the man.

McCain, however, is a loser. McCain is loyal only to himself, and the attitude of himself and his staffers vis-a-vis Palin proves this conclusively. That’s why Bush beat him in the 2000 primaries, and that is why McCain couldn’t get elected now.

It is tolerable to be decent but wrong. It is intolerable to be wrong and a complete *%$hole.

I am inclined to agree with this – somehow the concept of statesmanship escapes most Democrats. While I might disagree with Pres Bush I find his willingness to not speak ill of the incoming Pres very honorable and what I would expect from a man who IMO has always tried to do what he thought was right.

You might not agree with his decisions but only a loon would/could attribute ill motives to him. That is what BDS does to people.

He did fight back, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to the torrent from the people who made the false charges, and then repeated them. And then in interviews that he did, this was also drowned out by even more attacks on him, coming from hundreds of liberal politicians, liberal media such as the press, the fake press like MSNBC and comedians, all the way down to lefty blogs. So, it wasn’t enough, but it’s not completely accurate to say that Bush never fought back.
