O’Reilly: I’m not going to “cheap-shot” Obama by second-guessing the stimulus
posted at 9:23 pm on January 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via CNS, I think he means he won’t judge the bill until the details are ironed out and a final version’s presented to the public. Is that right? Or is he suggesting that criticizing the stimulus in principle, as a wasteful or counterproductive expense, is necessarily a “cheap shot”?
Exit question: Dude?

This is the same guy that was going on and on about “speculators” back when gasoline was past $4/gallon. Perhaps he has figured out how stupid he was being last summer.

I’m not going to cheap shot O’Rielly by watching his show. Does he still have a show?

Meh. He’s also been saying that people should be extra nice to Bush since he’s leaving and give him respect. I think he’s just extra sensitive to people being hypercritical of elected official….except when he decides he hate you. He has no problem going nuclear on Barney Frank or Al Franken.

Bill, you second guess everyone else, why the selfcontrol now? Worried you won’t get another interview with the President for a while?
Why don’t you offer to loofah Hillary’s back. That should go over well. You got to maintain ties with the Secretary of State. You can loofah Biden too. The Veep needs some attention.

Newt Gringrich just roasted Obama’s “stimulus” plan on Sean Hannity’s new show. Newt was not engaged in a cheap shot. Newt was engaged in clear thinking.
O’Reilly is pandering to Obama. O’Reilly has done it before. O’Reilly will do it again. I suggest watching Sean Hannity’s new show.

1.) an ass-kiss to Obama (he did that for months on end to get his stupid 1/2 hour interview)
2.) an instance he can site in the future to say, “See, I’m not an ideologue!”
3.) he’s pretty much always been butt-ignorant of economics. I think it’s because he was too busy taking “The Folks” 101 in college

I can’t even look at him nowadays. He is the typical RINO gone bad.I used to watch him every night.I have three of his books.I was a big fan but I have to say it….he went soft.
He is always trying to be extra fair now even when it’s ridiculous.
He doesn’t stick up for us anymore.(conservatives I mean)
Another thing that bothers me is the way he yells at the women on his show and talks over them. Also, I despise Barney Frank but even I was embarrassed at the way O’Reilly treated him on his show.
You cannot speak like that to a sitting Congressman no matter how much of a stuttering fool he is.
He ain’t the Bill I used to know.
Another one bites the dust…(sigh)
NeoKong on January 12, 2009 at 9:40 PM
O’R says cryptic stuff like that all the time – it’s sounds “coolish”, open minded, but non-committal. It’s basically political speak and means absolutely nothing. Just a tool to continue to claim “no spin” while pretending to actually take a stand.
The rare times when he actually DOES take a stand (demonizing big oil) he proves himself to be an imbecile.
peski on January 12, 2009 at 9:40 PM
And in 2005/2006 he was convinced it was Exxon and BP rigging the price of oil. He is a moron when it comes to understanding economics. So, of course he likes Obama’s stimulus plan.
Man we are so screwed.

Take a tip from O’Reilly – moderate 2 guests… not 3, one of whom is Meatloaf of all people. Let Meatloaf play his music and play a character named “Bob with bitchtits” in Fight Club (a.k.a. It all stared with a debate on imagration reform and Michelle owned him on it. His retort to her was: “Michelle Malkin is the most vile, hateful commentator I’ve ever met in my life,” he says. “She actually believes that neighbors should start snitching out neighbors, and we should be deporting people.
“It’s good she’s in D.C. and I’m in New York,” Rivera sneers. “I’d spit on her if I saw her.”

O’Reilly is just an attention whore. He drones on about “protecting the folks”, it’s sickening.
He doesn’t understand market-economics, as he is incensed by oil profits, and has no problem with big keynesian stimulus rackets.
He also straddles the fence for ratings: he pretends that there actually exists a right-wing equivalent to the looney “progressive” left, and thus by criticizing both he pretends that he’s objective.
He defends himself from accusations of non-objectivity by playing a clip of a right-winger criticizing him when he is attacked from the left and vice-versa, creating a perfect non-sequitur defense that he can fool his audience with.
The best example of him handicapping the right to equalize them with the left is the financial scandal.
He goes nuts on the real culprits like Barney Frank like a raving lunatic instead of giving the actual arguments that show that Frank and the Democrats are at the root of this, and sometimes even brings up the fact that Bush tried to warn of the scandal 18 or so times.
He then proceeds to say that the right is responsible as well, and conveniently forgets that part about Bush giving warnings. Again, more friendly-fire to show how “objective” he is.
O’Reilly will do anything for ratings. He shouldn’t even be considered a right-winger, he’s just a reactionary.
That’s actually the best word to describe him. Reactionary. And fraud.
ebrawer on January 12, 2009 at 9:46 PM
BTW, I’m no staunch defender of O’Reilly, but this is retarded… It’s a very short clip with no context. It appears to me that they were trying desperately to get him to go after Obama and he’s kind of giving them a “we’ll give him a fair shake, now leave me the hell alone at this farewell to Hume event”

Sapwolf on January 12, 2009 at 9:55 PM
Everyone has an opinion about whether a trillion dollars in government-enforced wealth transfer is a good thing or a bad thing.
O’Reilly is saying he’s for it in principle, but he’s going to nitpick the details of a plan that neither he nor any other single individual (including Obama himself) is ever going to read in its entirety.
I have no idea why people still take this guy seriously.
logis on January 12, 2009 at 9:56 PM
Okay, most of you are being completely ridiculous. O’Reilly made it clear- he said he wouldn’t second guess Obama until he saw what his plan was. Isn’t that sort of the job of any reporter? I suspect you all would be fuming if a reporter replied to a Bush plan and said that, without seeing his plan, he was going to second guess him and attack the plan no matter what.
And the Ailes comment was harmless. He said it was their job “not to attempt to destabilize it.” What is everyone saying- you think it’d be good for the media to TRY to destabilize the new administration? After the media attacked Bush’s every move?
You can’t have it both ways. I don’t like Obama anymore than most here do, but come on.
I guess it all goes back to the weird obsession over the fact that O’Reilly didn’t literally walk up behind Geraldo and slice his throat live on national television for his stupid comment about Michelle.
TheBlueSite on January 12, 2009 at 9:57 PM
I can’t tell that Bill O’Reilly has ever had an original thought. He’s the kind of guy Rush Limbaugh always talks about, who “sticks his finger in the wind” and tries to reflect public sentiment rather than state his own point of view.

3. Giving the finger to hillary
4. Giving the finger to McCain
5. Grabbing his crotch during the national anthem
Also, stating the simple FACT that governments can’t create wealth thereby meaning that any so called ‘stimulus’ is just smoke and mirrors is NOT a cheap shot, it is just a fact.

O’Reilly is tough to figure out. He was the first major person to publicly call BHO a socialist, during his campaign interview and after (though most people ignored that and there was no more mention of socialism until Joe the Plumber drove the point home) but he sucks up to BHO at other times.

After all you don’t want “the Oddballs” to beat you in the ratings department do you? His producer or whoever researches, messed him up on Dennis Leary last week..he stated that both Leary and Savage believe there is no such thing as Autism. (like a fact the show is called the factor) Leary wrote in his book, he just promoted “Why we Suck” he babysat someones child who was autistic. He said, he knows what a challenge autism is. He was complaining about the children that were being misdiagnosed…yeah Bill’s staff is rusty after the holidays or something? Billy O has a huge ego that gets him in trouble sometimes. I think all of these “pundits” have this problem. At least Rush can joke about it but he’s got a giant ego as well.
By the way, the speculators were a major cause of the run up in the futures price of oil as well as the huge drop. The price drop prooved that in and of itself.

O’Reilly is an egotistical attention hound. He is not very bright and more than anything, he wants to be liked, would love to be worshipped. I watch his show to listen to his guest, but sometimes his questions are just so stupid because he doesn’t know the subject matter well, that I just have to turn it off. He is not a conservative or a liberal, but he goes so far to keep from offending anyone, like he does in this case, that he is too wishy-washy. I know he’ll get hot and argue with people sometimes, but it’s always when he’s against child molesters or somebody who is an utterly bald face liar,(like Barney Frank denying he had anything to do with propping up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). BillO rarely takes up a real controversial or politically incorrect stance. He’s a wuss.

Fox is married to Geraldo Rivera; he helped them get started and they’ll hold a place for him until the day he dies, no matter how damned goofy he gets.
They can’t even use the fig leaf of ratings to explain him away. I heard a comedian say it best: “Do you even know anyone who knows anyone who likes Geraldo Rivera?”

I’ll never forget watching BillO talking about that female astronaut who put on a diaper and drove several hundred miles to intercede when she thought she was losing her married lover. BillO kept harping on the fact that she “Went AWOL” as the main point of the story. Bill, AWOL is a term from forty years ago. They have called it UA since then. Much of what Billo knew of the military, he got from WWII movies.
I will give him due credit for going out and seeing the troops and spending time with them in the field, and lately it seems he has learned alot from that and he spends a lot of effort on troops charities. So for that, He is a patriot. But most of the time, he’s a pinhead.

You’re spot on. Thomas Sowell, my favorite conservative, has written a bit about misdiagnosing late speaking children as having autism. It seems to be the “in” thing, so everyone with a degree wants into the autism diagnosis business, and the children misdiagnosed suffer from having the wrong treatment for the wrong condition.

Romeo13 on January 12, 2009 at 11:52 PM
Not only was he not the first to call him a socialist, he commits the double hypocrisy of actually being one himself and not fully understanding the definition of Socialism.
When he supports government nationalization and/or capitalization of industries, he is being a Socialist. When he talks about seizing the oil industry’s profits, he is being a socialist.
He appears to be a though nut to crack because understanding him would require an understanding of an objective and coherent underlying principle or philosophy, or in other words ideology. But O’Reilly rants against so-called “ideologues” as if ideology were a bad thing. That’s his whole point: he is arbitrary. He is “moderate”. He is whatever will get his ratings highest. He will hit Obama for being a “socialist” and then start salivating at the idea of a great government “grand-plan” to save us all. He says that he will be “fair” to Obama to get his moderate street-cred. No more, no less.
Worse then having the wrong ideology, O’Reilly has no ideology – an anarchy of the mind. He’s no longer a tough nut to crack when you realize that there’s nothing to crack.

Rush always makes ego-centric comments with a smirk on his face and usually lets it be known that he is being sarcastic. It’s an open joke.
O’Reilly actually takes his megolamania seriously. He actually says that he is “for the folks” with a straight face. He implies that he is practically the only watchdog in existence, and even apologizes for the financial scandal as if it were his fault for not figuring it out. He takes himself completely seriously.
As for speculators, you have to understand one thing.
1) We are ALL speculators. Buy something you think is cheap? You’re speculating that the price will go up and cause demand and thus prices to go up. Have any single stock? You’re speculating that it’s value will rise. Entered a profession? You’re speculating that that profession will be profitable. Ad infinitum.
2) The companies buying oil futures to guarantee prices for themselves at a stable price did so for only ONE reason – the STATE is interfering in the free search and procurement of oil. You open the book at the middle and blame those who are merely reacting in context of the situation at hand. Rather then blame companies who acted perfectly rationally in context, blame those who crafted that unnatural context.
Your only other recourse is to be consistent and ban speculation, or in other words the market-economy, if not life itself.
ebrawer on January 13, 2009 at 12:04 AM
I think you hit the nail on the head! BillO seems to want to have a current issues political commentary show, but then he does a LOT of this skin stuff, any story that will get a half naked chick on the screen, he will talk about. Not that I have anything against half naked chicks. Even less against totally naked chicks. But I don’t watch BillO to get randy. Then he has this hot chick with words, and the body language girl. Is it just me or is Tanya Rieman really Wifey? Sometimes I think he’s booking guests to get dates. That stuff really doesn’t fit into a political commentary show. But BillO doesn’t really know much about the political subjects he has guests on to talk about and I think that’s why he does all of the sideshow crap.
Bikerken on January 13, 2009 at 12:15 AM
Actualy it was interesting that oil prices dropped SO fast, once venture capital from the banks dried up.
I’ve tried to find numbers on who was playing in the market at that time… but the fact is that when the price was HIGH, there was plenty of oil in the system (no shortages), and the price has dropped precipitously even though worldwide demand is still pretty close to what it was… demand has not increased as it did historicly, but has not really dropped by a large percentage either…
The law of supply and demand only works when there is NOT a true surplus of capital in the system… if there is too much cheap money out there, folks use it to gamble with… which can artificialy drive up prices…
Romeo13 on January 13, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Bill is still beating the “I was right about the greedy oil companies and speculators” drum — tonight he cited (you better sit down) a 60 Minutes report as validation.

D2Boston on January 13, 2009 at 12:20 AM
Romeo, check out that 60 minutes piece on the oil speculators, you can probably find it somewhere. It supports your point about the law of supply and demand. The one thing that bugs me about all the people who are jumping off the capitalism ship is that real captilism only is capitalism if it is not a closed or rigged or manipulated market. It does need to have some controls and regulations. It can’t be just an insane free for all. And for all the people who blame this on the republicans because Bush was president and the republicans were in power, I might remind you that the things what bush did wrong were all times that he acted like a democrat. And even though a few republican pols went along with him, the conservatives were screaming bloody murder about it, and still are.

katy on January 13, 2009 at 1:07 AM
I’ve actualy been doing some research on the worldwide banking crises… and how the rules created by the bankers themselves created an unsustainable system…
The problem is that the Fed Res Bank only demands a 10% capital reserve… and using fractional lending they can create an endless series of debt…
You put money in the bank… and the bank then gives up to 90% of that money out in loans… while still oweing you the full amount… thus they have created capital and put it into the system…
That capital (from another bank) can then be used as the Reserve for making MORE loans… and so on, and do forth… until the vast majority of capital in the system is not real money, but based on debt on top of debt… giant legal pyramid scheme…
Problem is that ANY 10% hit to the overall system causes the system to fail, orrrrr, even worse, any perceived 10% THREAT to the system causes it to lock up, as we are seeing from the bad house loan situation….
Economists try to make this whole thing overly complicated, and tell us poor folk we are too stupid to understand, but its really pretty simple when you get down to basics.
Our economy is no longer based on producing… but more on moving money from one pocket to another… which is why it is unsustainable.

I think that the biggest problem comes in when we don’t allow recessions to occur. As long as there are recessions every so often, teh inflation of money in the market cannot get wildly out of control, weak companies are weeded out and the remaining companies are stronger and more impervious to downturns. But when we go for sustained periods without major recessions, our monetary situation becomes bloated and the business environment becomes filled with brittle companies that go right into bankruptcy at the first whiff of a downturn, all at once. In fact, without regular recessions, strong companies lose out to more brittle ones, since that strength must be paid for with slightly diminished returns. Like a forest being taken over by new growth and not allowed to burn it off every once in a while. All it takes is one dry season and it’s all up in flames, new growth and old.

Actually O’Reilly and McCain were right, the rise in oil prices was driven by speculators.
They were wrong in panicing about it. These things happen, the market corrects itself. It is not so much conspiracy as a wave that feeds on itself.
But hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Now serve your time in hell. Madam Hillary is calling for you Bill, her back needs loofahing!

Cavuto was on TOF during the gasoline price crunch and at the beginning of the economic debacle. Neil schooled Bill without raising his voice.

BillO actually said, “it’s my job to protect the citizens of this country” on tonight’s show! When did we hire him to be our national bodyguard? Pompous ass!
He’s such a tool for Obama now because he got his little interview with The Messi-UH! If he had any brain at all he would be killing the idea of another stimulus simply because they don’t work. Cutting taxes and lowering spending is the only way to ensure growth and opportunity. All these stimulus packages accomplish is to ensure increased deficits and certain tax increases under an Obama Administration.
He’s such a whore for ratings that he thinks people tuned into watch HIM interview Obama. He’s not smart enough to realize that those that tuned in were mostly the Obama acolytes tuning in to watch The One.

The dead horse that BO is still beating turned to dust a long time ago. Come on, Bill, find a fresh horse to beat.
Of course, BHO is untouchable now so it will have to be some other gaggle of aging white guys.
Or…you could just go away.

If you watched Hannity last night, you know that he isn’t letting up on Obama.

It’s as simple as Bill is getting older and is not as in touch with contemporary issues and society. He sees the world through a prism of late 60′s and 70′s, and is quickly becoming obsolete. I was watching Glenn Beck before he got pulled from Headline News, and youth is youth. I’m hoping O’Reilly’s slot gets filled by Beck eventually.
O’Reilly lost me when he went after the Big Oil over the summer when John Stossel owned him. And who is Bill to be “looking out for the folks”. He’s made himself Judge, Jury, and Executioner…I can think for myself Bill, Thanks.

O’BILE-E is a idiot… I hate hime passionatly, he goes with the wind and tide, changing his stripes to stir the pot. He is NO Conservative, he has no place at FOX… Maybe MSNBC has a spot for this bafoon. What a kiss-butt he is… Everyones afraid to offend the “black” guy, the fear of being called a racist is squashing all logical desent… We have know for awhile that the MSM was in the tank and would never hold thier Messiah accountable, but I still hoped Americans would have at least someone to speak the truth… I must be crazy, what was I thinking? Americans don’t care… They want the check, the cheese, the job… They want the message of “change”… of “hope” and will continue to turn a blind eye towards the truth… I watch the MN election, the folks in rural OH, PA, VA and FL that voted for this bafoon BHO. We are a Nation of idiots, and the wussification is almost complete… “Progressives” are winning, America is losing…

Jan 20, 1961: Ask not what your country can do for you, as what you can do for your country.
Jan 20, 2009: Your government stimulus check is in the mail. The government will give you free health care. The government will give you a job. The government will buy you a house. The government will solve every problem you have ever had.
This country is finito.
