Inhofe: It’s time to get angry and tear up the TARP

Via the boss, a pointless if shrewd bit of PR on launch day for Congress’s YouTube channel. 53 percent of the public’s ready to choke down another $775 billion for the stimulus; good luck ginning up outrage in those circumstances over $350 billion they’ve already digested. Thanks to Larry Summers, there’s no question that The One will get his money. The question is how many strings will come attached:

Summers promises that the Obama Treasury would track bailout funds to ensure financial institutions are using them to increase lending. He pledges tougher executive compensation and dividend payments rules, and immediate measures to stall the rising tide of home foreclosures.

But Frank’s bill is much more detailed than Summers articulated – and leaves a lot less wiggle room for the Obama administration.

For instance, Summers promises “smart, aggressive policies to reduce the number of preventable foreclosures,” while Frank’s bill would require the Obama administration to spend at least $40 billion of the TARP funds on foreclosure measures, among several other specific directives on that front.

They’ve got 59 votes in the Senate now and god knows how many more on the way come 2010, so get used to it. Exit question: Why isn’t Inhofe’s video listed among the clips at the Senate’s YouTube hub?

Call it what it is : dictatorial socialism. And call the political hacks like Obama what they are: marxists.

American Revolution II … it’ll be better than the first.

Let’s roll.

Wow. That, like, makes sense. I was wondering what happened to the Lone Ranger.

perroviejo on January 12, 2009 at 7:02 PM

Is there any substance there? Why didn’t he make a bigger stink about the first $350 Billion. Would have given me more ‘Hope’ for ‘Change’.

PappaMac on January 12, 2009 at 7:02 PM

Shredding the constitution.

53 percent of the public’s ready to choke down another $775 billion for the stimulus

Same 53% who’ll destroy the country, from the far left, to the far right. Congratulations America!

Entelechy on January 12, 2009 at 7:06 PM

That was calm and boring. No one will believe it’s really a crisis — they’re too used to liberals’ hyperbolic rhetoric designed to get everyone terrified about the latest crisis to think that a guy that calm is really describing a crisis.

Maybe we need to take a page from the libs’ playbook and start screeching into every camera we can that Obama’s trillion-dollar spending spree is a crisis of epic proportions. It might help if we march naked in the streets or dye our hair pink.

It’s sad that there finally is a real crisis, and the people are too numbed by manufactured crises to care anymore.

I just heard Inhofe on the Roger Hedgecock show. Love that guy.

Theworldisnotenough on January 12, 2009 at 7:09 PM

The Dems have almost complete power. No amount of ass kissing by the GOP is going to help. The only way the GOP is going to continue to exist is to attack the Dems like a pack of rabid dogs. But it is not going to happen. I really think they are done.

JonRoss on January 12, 2009 at 7:15 PM

So when do we get to see some accounting for how it’s going?

Everyone knows it’s just a great bonfire of money.

tarpon on January 12, 2009 at 7:18 PM

Its amazing how for years we’ve sat idly while public education has pumped enough fools that they are now on the verge of putting the final socialist nail in the coffin.

When the Democrat party and its media lackeys see an opportunity to damage the Republican Party and conservative philosophies in general with the revelations.

It’s there now, along with another video that was just posed an hour ago.

Wish Inhofe was my senator. *Sniff*

joey24007 on January 12, 2009 at 7:31 PM

Whats even more madening is that idiot Dodd
is putting the blame on you know who,

President Bush!

And remember, how badly the Liberals want
to work hand in hand with Republicans,
a hem,ya right!!!!(Sarc!)

Oh,and also remember,the most powerful
woman in all of the Universe,Nancy Pelosi,
who secured the Republican vote, and then
went to the well, and sold out the Republican
Party on the 700 Billion,in which,if I remember
right,Inhofe went Nuclear on Pelosi’s stunt!!!

Isn’t our Main Stream Media something………..?

……… Their power and freedom even written into our Constitution, with only one implied responsibility, to tell the truth and hold our elected officials accountable for their the legislation and policies, and keep the public “informed”, as long as they all follow the same political ideology, right?

If the American “people” new enough about how much money has been actually spent on the TARP program, how much graft, waste, where the money actually went, what and who was the initial cause, the unaccountability, and how much it is really going to cost them and their families for generations to come as much as they will about the next “American Idol”……………

…………. then I don’t think there would be a 53% approval for more of the same.

Shredding the constitution.

Johan Klaus on January 12, 2009 at 7:04 PM

Wilson shredded it with the income tax act.

FDR shredded it with the New Deal (SS, etc).

LBJ shredded it with the Great Society (The Great Medis)

Not much left to shred, dudes.

Liberty is dead.

And the knucklehead said “let’s roll” – you ain’t rollin’ nowhere but the the donot shop.

Exit question: Why isn’t Inhofe’s video listed among the clips at the Senate’s YouTube hub?

Because Inhofe is being a bad bad Republican. He is exibiting signs of the party of “NO” and being partisan.
He’s being slapped up side the head for not towing the Republican talking points and defying the leadership in “working with the Obama administration”.

SPANK!

katy on January 12, 2009 at 7:48 PM

Right on Mr. Inhofe!! This TARP thingy went from saving trouble mortgage holders and getting banks to loan money to the plan to jump start the market system? Now which will it be Mr. Obama. Its not that his basic economic ignorance is appalling, its how negative he is about America. We could right the ship (that is not as bas as the media portrays) if government would just get out of the way.

gringo69 on January 12, 2009 at 7:57 PM

I’ve got it figgered out. Don’t blame the school teachers and the liberals for educating the dunces our schools are currently turning out. Blame the EPA. The EPA did not ban tetraethyl lead from the gasoline soon enough. The reason the school teachers and the liberals are insane is lead poisioning. Look at the red states, the automotive density is very low. There are not many insane school teachers and liberals in the red states. Look at the blue states; the automobile density is very high resulting in a high lead content in the atmosphere during the days before it was banned. They turn out most of the insane and liberal types. This, of course does not explain the insane very rich liberals. I think they lived in those old mansions that had lead plumbing. What think? We got to blame something for their insane stupidity.

Old Country Boy on January 12, 2009 at 8:32 PM

Take out as much credit/loans as possible because in two year they will be worth half the dollars they are now.

jukin on January 12, 2009 at 8:33 PM

I received a survey from Sen. Nelson (D-FL) asking about what concerns I have about the financial situation. I had the option to pick three. There was one and only one choice that wouldn’t have been used by him to justify voting for this crap. So my only concern was the growing deficit.

Cindy Munford on January 12, 2009 at 8:47 PM

When was the last time you were in debt and open up a new credit line and spent the entire limit on “pet projects” around the house, bought new clothes for the kids, a new stove, fixed the snow blower ( cause global warming is going to kill us soon ) and your “private” stimulus plan suddenly made your financial situation improve?….

katy on January 12, 2009 at 10:29 PM

What think? We got to blame something for their insane stupidity.

Old Country Boy on January 12, 2009 at 8:32 PM

How about blaming them directly? It’s their own culpability that defines them.

We went to the same schools that they did, but we did not come out brainwashed; they willingly surrendered their brains to the ideology de jur because it’s just so much easier than having to think or to take a position on your own.

ss396 on January 12, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Good going, Inhofe!

Alana on January 12, 2009 at 11:44 PM

My Guy. Say what you will, that’s the Maaaan!

If ya’ll (you all for you funky yanks) reading this would start e-mailing your lib acquaintances with a bunch of the good stuff that first appears on HA, we can change this.

I’ve previously called to express myself to my most esteemed Senator from Oklahoma and he Does listened. Coburn, too.

They’re not BHO axis 3, either.
Hey, here’s a good idea. Post your Senators here who need encouragement or remediation and I’ll send them a line or two. If we don’t now, when?

I realize this may seem like the proverbial “Seal down the ice hole”, but the alternative is less palatable and unless you own a gold mine, bullet factory or the next SCOTUS nominee you are vulnerable.

OkieDoc on January 12, 2009 at 11:51 PM

I think he’s the only adult in congress….. left.

Kini on January 13, 2009 at 12:47 AM

So, there is one Senator that has something between his ears besides his nose. Reality, what a concept.

N4646W on January 13, 2009 at 2:15 AM

Maturity and honesty cannot be tolerated. Inhofe must be destroyed. Somebody tape pork chops to his ankles and release the Democrat pit-Yorkies.

SKYFOX on January 13, 2009 at 5:17 AM

JonRoss on January 12, 2009 at 7:15 PM

Conservatism is dead as a political movement, and the GOP is moribund as a national political party. And if “comprehensive immigration reform” is passed, you can kiss the GOP goodbye as a national party, because Texas, Florida, and North Carolina will all fall as viable states for the Republicans to win.

What really pisses me off the most is that Bush and the Senate Republicans (the very same group you want to filibuster these bailouts) created the precedent to allow Obama to do this. And when the House GOP valiantly took a stand against the bill, Juan McShamnesty pantsed them. The whole affair is and was disgusting. And all I know is that my wealth is going to be confiscated to pay for this. I just hope nobody takes my home away from me at the barrel of a gun.

Outlander on January 13, 2009 at 7:40 AM

Apparently Obama wants to change the name of TARP to something new and different since the public is not pleased with part 1.

Steve Doocey suggested CARP “since it smells fishy”.

BARF is another possibility.
