Obama: We’re all going to have to sacrifice for the greater good

Fair warning from this morning’s long chat with Stephanopoulos; follow the link for fudging about whether he’ll investigate Bush or why it might take more than 100 days to close Gitmo, both of which have the nutroots wringing their hands. When I first saw the headline on this bit, I thought for sure he was hinting at raising taxes. And maybe he is, but that’s not the context in which the exchange occurs. Stephanopoulos’s question, quite explicitly, is about entitlement reform, including — dare I say it? — social security.

Not only that, but we were told there was a spending freeze on basically everything. But guess who refurbished his elaborate conference room with a gazillion inch HDTV and all new china for his luncheon meetings? The president.

Engl>French>English translations: “I thought he was ordinary.” Michelle on Barack, “He liked my sarcastic comments.”
When Michelle and her kids sacrifice everything for the greater good, then Barry-O can spout off as is his habit; but not until HE and his elitists give up “living high on the hog” as HE puts it.
No way is the typical working class American going to put up with higher taxes to make the bureaucrats richer and the illegal aliens better off than the working citizen.
The only way that the Progressive Socialists can enforce their WILL on the masses is coercion, to persist in the ruination of our country to the point that we must either rebel or conform into the prepared mold of slavery that they are enforcing.
And for the RNC to have the nerve to preempt the GOP with RINO is no surprise. This is post-McCain, now post-Bush. There is no naivety; ask Palin or Wurzelbacher. McCain distinguished the differentiation between conservatism and progressivism, dashing any doubts that may have lingered through Bush’s administration.
No need to allow disillusionment to depress you into Socialist conformity. On the contrary. Hold your ground and stick to your guns and demand our Constitutional government.
Deprive Obama having and eating his cake; let him eat crow, his own words. He wants it in French? Let him rue in his own roux.

Not quite “all,” eh Bambi? Just those who have behaved responsibly and made prudent decisions. We are the ones who have been, and will be, sacrificing so that the lazy, the stupid, the shiftless, the dishonest, the corrupt, the irresponsible, etc., can continue to receive their government checks.
When you reward bad behavior, you guarantee that you will get more bad behavior, not less. Why is this simple, fundamental fact so impossible for Dims to comprehend?

Brat4life on January 11, 2009 at 3:16 PM
There isn’t going to be an April 15th tea party II. Like the “earned income tax credit”, Obama plans on burying his new entitlements into the tax code. I actually look for April 15th to become the second largest holiday on the calendar with government playing Santa.

Col.John Wm. Reed on January 11, 2009 at 3:34 PM
I need to correct that. The government has no money to play Santa. The people who actually pay taxes will be playing Santa, and the government will simply be handing out the gifts. Next time you see a drug addict using food stamps give yourself a nice little pat on the back Santa.

So he is going to give back the house that Rezko bought him? Isn’t it really odd how the Communists always talk about the greater good, when it never is about any such thing.

Might I suggest the new Obama administration theme song “Jive Talking” by the BeeGees. Fits to a T.

“The greater good” is whatever the Democrat party says it is. It didn’t matter what Bill Clinton did, so long as he was devoted to the “greater good”, the “higher morality” (also shifting in nature).

Liberal version of sacrifice: working hard, putting in long hours, so other people can live better in the present.

My wife and I have already sacrificed our jobs. Our savings exhausted, we’re getting ready to sell our furniture & antiques. We’ll likely have to sacrifice our home in a month or two.
On top of all this ‘Hope and Change’, Congress is about to steal the future from my children and grandchildren.
I’ve had enough sacrificing. What I want to see is:
Obama sacrifice his salary, his Chicago and Hawai’i mansions and put his children in public school.
I want to see Congress give back all 22 pay raises they have granted themselves since this country began.
I want to see Federal and State politicians sacrifice their spending of other people’s money and use their own for a change.
I want to see permanent tax cuts setting the tax rate at no more than 5% then see if Congress can keep the lights on.

The only thing O’Bama claims to know a lot about is Abraham Lincoln. Well, he should adopt Lincoln’s money policies. The ‘Greenback’.
Instead, O’Bama will plunge the country into relentless borrowing and printing of money. Now the interesting thing about this is Bernake claims to have studiously learned from the ’30’s not to contract money, but to expand the money supply to counteract a crash and depression. However, what has actually happened is the opposite. He has dramatically expanded the money supply to the banks, while they have severely ‘contracted the money supply’ to anyone else. Hmmmmmm…………..
So it would appear the Fed, (which is privately owned), has taken care of its own with no disclosure, no accountability, and no regard for the people. No surprise there. At minimum this completely disproves McFadden, (who blamed constricted money supply in ’30’s on the Fed), and surplus money supplied by Bernake, (who thinks he is an expert on the ’30’s). The dirty little secret as we know now is banks would not have loaned money if they had it in the 30’s, and will not loan money now, when they do have it now.
The central reason is the opportunity for wealth transfer is too great. Banks in the 30’s that survived, and banks flush with cash now, can simply constrict loans and acquire billions upon billions in property and real estate simply by constricting the money supply and forcing forclosures for pennies on the dollar. All with the support of the taxpayer money given to the Fed.
They were not happy until they squeezed every last dime out of the country from ‘29-’41 and I would anticipate this would go longer.

That is a very interesting twist on this crisis, and one I hadn’t thought about. The banks assume that for the time being things will be tight, but when things recover they will make a killing on the property they have seized, and the government has subsidized this behavior with our money.

During the campaign, Obama constantly talked about building a “bottom up” economy. Give me a break. Is there any better example of a “top down” economic program than what Obama is proposing? Giving almost a trillion dollars to a few government czars and letting them distribute it where they see fit. Because of course they know how to spend it better than we do because they are so wise and virtuous. And they always have the “public good” in mind when they distribute the money. So, rather than let market forces guide the capital to where it is most valued and most efficiently utilized we have a few of our government overlords dispersing huge amounts of money according to their own priorities and agendas.
As Milton Friedman put it, “Tell me where you intend to find these angels who are going to organize society for you”. Bingo.

No kidding. Whatever happened to “leading by example” Bambi? As our soon-to-be First Family, shouldn’t you and your Bitter Half be making the first sacrifices, to show the rest of America how committed you are, and how serious the situation is?
And speaking of hypocrisy, what happened to all those Dims who were complaining about the Bush inaugural parties in 2004? The people who said we’re at war, and it’s inappropriate to be spending millions of dollars on lavish parties at such a time. Guess what people, we’re still at war, and we’re also now facing a financial crisis of unprecedented proportions. So why aren’t you Dims outraged by Obama’s lavish inaugural spending? Especially when it comes at a time when he’s telling us that “everybody” is going to have to be making sacrifices “for the greater good.” Why aren’t you putting your money where your mouth is, Bambi, and leading the way?

To a liberal social security “reform” means one and only one thing: increase the taxes paid into the ponzi scheme by high income earners. Good bye SS cap, that’s what Obama means. And as a double bonus, there will be means testing as well. Meaning someone making $150K will pay $20K a year into the system for 30 years and get $0 upon retirement.
But Obama is a centrist and we should all embrace his holiness.

1) So when does Bambi put on a sweater and go on TV to tell the American People to turn down their thermostats?
The Second Carter Presidency, as was prophesied.
2) Liberals are always going on about “sacrifice,” as long as it’s someone else’s stuff, and spent on what liberals want, and the recipient of the sacrifice is the all-high tribal god of the left known as “The State.”
A certain percentage of the modern left are basically ascetics – they just want people to do with less (i.e. suffer need), pretty much regardless of the issue at hand (global warming, high gas prices, the war, corn shortages, etc.).
Always beware someone whose answer to every ill is the same medicine – the one they call for even when you’re not sick.

One way to cheat obama out of his revolution, is not pay your taxes. Hard to do, though. Or quit your job. That will deprive him of revenue. It will deprive you of revenue too, but it will be for a greater good. Or become self-employed and don’t declare. Or get into the underground economy and do everything in cash.
Too many payroll employees in America. Too easy to fleece the population. America needs to reduce its payroll labor force to the point where income taxes just don’t add up to much. That was how it used to be when America was being created, 1776-1946. No income tax, and even if there was an income tax, it would not have been collectible because people lived off the land, dealt in cash, and there was no means of recording income.
The beast must not be fed and it is incumbent upon every patriotic American to provide as little food as possible to the beast.

“For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises — that in most cases they themselves created — by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism.”
Goucho had that covered too.
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and misapplying the wrong remedies.

Atlas shrugged should be required reading in our schools. Kinda late now though. Our children have already been indoctrinated in Obamaspeak. The fight is all uphill now to get people to wake the hell up.
We’re gonna get an education here shortly. Either the vast majority of Americans are stupid, and will let Obama flush us down the drain, or they will finally see him for what he is and stop him. Will they open their eyes in time? Will they see the train comin’?
The Obots see the light at the end of the tunnel and think it’s daylight. I look at the light and wonder how fast that train is coming at me.

Taking the message from the old racist, black liberation theologian Rev. Wright, Obama wants the gov. to own the banks and when the masses of white folk foreclose in record numbers, he’ll find a way to get the oppressed minorities into these homes and it will all look squeaky clean and legal.
As far as 2010… forget about that… It’s fixed as we speak. The Dem’s own the election process from this point forward.]
In 2 years your average hard working Joe won’t have a pot to piss in as far as contributing to any campaign. This is why Obama is still soliciting contributions while there is still money to be had.

People how long must I SCREAM for a march on the white house and then on to the capitol? I’m talking massive sit in!!
I am a foot soldier, so I will follow. We need leaders people!
Mercy4Me on January 11, 2009 at 8:55 PM
I’ll sacrifice right after I see Obama and the entire House and Senate Democratic delegations sacrificing. Crickets chirping ….
JeffB. on January 11, 2009 at 8:58 PM
Like someone already said, in Socialism, otherwise known as sharing the wealth, the workers suffer. The people pulling the strings , i.e. the gubmit, get richer. Like in the great movie, “Patton” where the soldier says, “Our blood, his guts”. This time it’s “Our sacrifice, his brilliant plan”.
kingsjester on January 11, 2009 at 9:03 PM
This is why I say Liberty is dead.
We have no leaders willing to sacrifice as our Founding Fathers did. They put it all on the line. Some, even in the eventual victory, lost everything and had miserable lives as a result.
I don’t see Gingrich willing to lose any weight in sacrifice. Nor Gush Limbo either. These men – intellectuals in Gingrich’s corner, Reagan-Cons in Gush’s – have not true conception of what is necessary here, nor would they be willing to sacrifice if they did.
Any of the, including Romney or anyone else, could call for a nation strike on the 20th to demonstrate the AP’s One and Only, along with his coherts Pelosi or Reid, will NOT be allowed a dictatorship in this country.
And as far as I’m concerned, any “leader” drinking the global warming Kool-Aid (Gingrch!) is not a conservative and should be denied a role in the part.
Liberty is dead, fella’s, roll over and play dead already.
klickink.wordpress.com on January 11, 2009 at 9:06 PM
Not sure if it’s dead just yet. When Americans begin to feel the pain and fear in larger numbers, the roar will get louder. The roar will intersect with the attempt to silence us. That is when things will get real.
We’re not there yet.
As far as leaders… I’m not looking to Newt’s and Rush’s do this. I’m looking to us…. remember…. we the people. We actually need to do this. We need a new party. The party is dead, not liberty.
We are the party. A leader will emerge but not from anything presently residing in DC!
katy on January 11, 2009 at 9:19 PM
A complete national shut down to close off DC might be a good plan .Jam the phone lines, faxes, email.Sit in traffic and drive real slow.
Block the capitol and WH streets..Just simple tourists with clunky cars.
Pick a day.
Col.John Wm. Reed on January 11, 2009 at 9:23 PM
The leader we need comes via Alaska (Sarah) and small town Ohio (Joe the Plumber), common citizens who care about their country. The elites have already raided the retirement funds of most Americans and means testing of social security will surely follow.
Skin in the game for responsible citizens who saved for retirement by following the rules (401K’s and IRA’s) and not living above their means, only to have the rules changed by the rule makers to grab even more of our retirement and make us all equally poor and beholden to big governemnt eilites.
Its’ tea party time but the American people must wake up, get pissed and throw the bums out! Do we have the brains or will?
dhunter on January 11, 2009 at 9:41 PM
I don’t think that everyone should suffer the consequences of the actions of some. Let those who are the cause suffer the consequence.

I told my daughter not to vote for a Marxist socialist. She said he wasn’t, and did.
I am older, so I may pay less of a price for this bullshit that passes for intellect. My kids will be the ones who are really screwed, and I am sorry for them, and their kids.
Bama is a liar out of the gate, when he says “we all have to sacrifice”. He isn’t going to, or his mother in law would go live with her son. Congress would refuse its raises. Dodd and Frank would resign for their signal inability to see the financial system train wreck coming, chairmen of committees, decades of “experience”. And they blame it on Bush, but they were running the committees from 06 on, members for decades before. Sgt. Schultz was more honest in “knowing nothing”.
The political class of this country has come to think of itself as better than those paying their bills. A recent expose here in CA about the Avocado commission is instructive. Down to the municipal level, the system has rotted to a great degree.
I suggest that DC is out of control and beyond redemption at this point, save for a few brave souls. I think the rebellion should start at the city, county and state level, wherever you can reach out and touch someone with a napalm enema. Each of us has their reach…so use it.
Go to a mindless city council meeting and ask the kind of questions the dolts cannot answer without acute embarassment. The point is not to get an intelligble answer, you likely won’t, but the question will scare somebody. Write to dullard editors of newspapers. As asinine as Los Angeles Times is, I got three letters published in 08. Go to places like the Comment Factory and hammer the young and dull writers there.
Thomas Paine did a lot of work writing stuff and getting thumped for it. That is going to be the path at least some of us have to take to challenge the mindset of so many who “learned” how to “think” in college.
Bill Ayers is smiling a lot these days. He infected the education system with a virus. We have to fight that virus. Not just at PTA meetings, but in the acolytes of Ayers walking among us.
Where and when you get the chance, push the peanut forward. This is a battle which will be decided by the weight of many small engagements, not one election or some great event. We are here because we lost a lot of small engagements (back to Ayers, for example). We have to change that win/loss ratio.
What will you do tomorrow to engage someone and change the trend of things? I know where I am going.

Define “greater good,” Mr. O.
PattyJ on January 11, 2009 at 10:10 PM
He also sold the sweet bullshit of “Pay and Go”. Every new spending program will be balanced by spending cuts elsewhere. Think anyone will remind him of that?..maybe play a clip of him saying that? Pop it on him during an interview?…No? Why not?
Itchee Dryback on January 11, 2009 at 10:12 PM
That is correct, Sir.
Itchee Dryback on January 11, 2009 at 10:15 PM
Mr.Obama,
After loyally and faithfully supporting my husband’s 23 years and counting, in the U.S. Army, I can honestly say in regards to your lament of “We’re all going to have to sacrifice for the greater good”.—-YOU FIRST.
canditaylor68 on January 11, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Checked out the Comment Factory…sorry, those freaks are a waste of time. You can’t reason a person out of a position that wasn’t reasoned into in the first place.
Thankfully people in that advanced stage of mental illness are just a noisy minority. I’ll work on the ones who are not quite that crippled and triage the rest.
