I used to have some respect for Colmes, but that ended several years ago when he became so shallow and predictable that listening to him became painful.

Does this mean that He-Man and The Masters of the Universe is returning to TV…live action, of course…since Skeletor is no longer part of the Fox team?
coldwarrior on January 10, 2009 at 11:18 AM
No more daily renditions of Democratic talking points. Guess the Dems are going to have to push thru a Fairness Doctrine. Only way they’ll get their message out ’cause it just doesn’t ’sell’ in the market place.

You mean the liberal monkey on Hannity’s show that they occasionally poke with sticks and taunt?
Did he ask to be sent to a medical research facility for a much needed break?

What position will he be getting in the Obama administration?

Hey remember when Colmes wrote on his blog questioning Sarah Palin’s parenting skills and then he “scrubbed it”

I never really watched H&C regularly, not too fond of either one. Good luck to Alan Colmes. Monday’s line for Hannity sounds dreadful.
I usually watch Fox and Friends, Special Report and any time our Michelle is commenting, after that, Penguin hockey or movie or just music.

Alan Colmes was the only respectable liberal tv host in America. It’s a shame to see him go.

Adios, Skeletor. Too bad you’re not taking your gasbag “I drive a Chevy Tahoe hybrid” broken record with ya.

I thought Sean was a classy guy, giving him a rolex – colmes handed him a red map with Berkley and Mass in blue.
I am so glad he is gone. Now if they could quit having bob (find me a … ok, I can’t say it)barr on and the huckster I will be happy.
Also can’t wait to have Glenn Beck back on tv.

Maybe PMSNBC is hiring. He would fit right in over there.
But, he may not want to go over there because he would not stand out. Hannity was more than gracious to him last night.

conservnut on January 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Maybe Soros could directly replace him, circumventing all of the time and trouble getting the daily talking points out to Alan through MoveOn.org.
fogw on January 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM
I’ll give you that insofar as I never heard him call the President BusHitler or anything like that. However, his constant talking/squealing over every conservative guest really annoyed me. I can’t even tell you what he said half the time, all I ever heard was:
“I know you are, but what am I? I know you are, but what am I? I know you are, but what am I?”
IrishEi on January 10, 2009 at 11:36 AM
As an old conservative I disagree with Alan Colmes views most of the time. However, he seems like a decent person. Sometimes he got offended over a guest’s really bad comments and took them on.
***
I think going to a conservative only show would be a mistake. Only on Fox TV do you get a “fair and balanced” approach to the news–this is their strong suite.

Colmes is a brainwashed annoying moron and I’m glad he’s gone. There were a few occasions where I’ve wanted to reach my hands through the screen and strangle that idiot. He does have a wicked sense of humor, but that doesn’t make up for being a mindless leftist drone who like most liberals is unable or refuses to see the other side of the argument. Kirsten Powers would’ve been a great replacement since she’s not so ideological in her perspective and is willing to consider her opponents position.
I’d rather see FOX become more partisan and center-right since the left accuses them of that anyway and there really isn’t anyone in the MSM standing up for the conservative viewpoint. Why don’t we have a ‘Fairness Doctrine’ for the right to be used in the liberal media-I’m sure the lefties would love that idea. :P
Also while we’re at it, FOXnews if you’re reading this, you need to draw the line of ‘extending fair and balanced’ coverage to our enemy. Would it make sense to hear the grievances of a serial killer and his victims, the Nazis and the Jews?
At some point you have to accept that we’re civilized, our enemies are savages and the only question that should be up for debate is how to wipe them out quicker. That includes using malicious war propaganda to dehumanize them the way they do to us-this is a real world war against Islam and we need to take our enemies very seriously. Sorry if I got a bit carried away. /rant
thinkagain on January 10, 2009 at 11:52 AM
I actually liked Colmes (I guess I still do…it’s not like he died or anything).
Obviously, I was annoyed at the fact that his questions were always the same, and that he never seemed to listen to the replies…but the same could be said for Hannity. It got (has gotten) to the point that I generally only watch it for particular guests…Karl Rove for example.
Both of these guys have a role to play, and they do it. Coles’ is to put out Democratic talking points, and that is what we get. Underneath, both seem to be pretty good guys, with good senses of humour.I hope that Colmes, and Hannity for that matter, will have a format that allows them to stray a bit from the talking points.
For me a highlight that they should have played was Colmes and Ann Coulter, the night she endorsed Hillary Clinton. It was hilarious.
So, I’m wishing Colmes good luck.
Blaise on January 10, 2009 at 11:53 AM
I neither like or respect Colmes. The mute usually went on whenever he spoke because I found him so appallingly annoying. However, I wish him well in his new endeavors.
Looking forward to Hannity’s new show.
katieanne on January 10, 2009 at 11:58 AM
I’m going to miss this format. Colmes was fun to watch, especially when Jeri Thompson put him in his place. HA HA!
We’ll see how “Hannity” goes. The first episode is not much to make me have to see it.
What I don’t get about Hannity is that he loves to be the center of attention in every situation. For example, Gary Sinese was promoting his special on tonight BTW, and he described staying in Sadam’s bedroom overnight. Hannity interrupted and said: “I did too and slept on Sadam’s bed!”
Kasich, Steyn, and Lanny Davis were giving their pleasantries to Alan and Hannity intervened and said “He is leaving me!” When Tim Russert died, Hannity said, “Tim Russert signed me a book and was on radio with me!”
ME ME ME.
I like Hannity, but he has to knock that crap off. It gets annoying, I remember Dennis Miller even complaining about it.
jencab on January 10, 2009 at 12:01 PM
Bob Beckel is the only liberal I can think of who isn’t a limp-noodle girl scout. His hooker problem will always dog him, though.
I also think Kirsten Powers would be a good sparring partner for Hannity. She’s not a moonbat.
perroviejo on January 10, 2009 at 12:02 PM
Alan Colmes was the perfect foil for Hannity. Where will they find another like him? He infuriates me every time he speaks. I’m gonna miss him.

Thanks, Alan — good luck to you.
But now who the hell is Coulter going to smack around?
D2Boston on January 10, 2009 at 12:10 PM
Absolutely. Hannity can be VERY annoying.
I didn’t watch this show often, but when I did I always felt kind of sorry for Colmes. He seems like a decent guy (leftist beliefs aside) and always seemed to be outclassed and outwitted in any argument. Even Joe the Plumber easily ripped him a new one… not that Joe is a dummy, but he doesn’t have the on-camera debating experience that Colmes has.
UltimateBob on January 10, 2009 at 12:12 PM
Bye Skeletor! Can’t say I will miss you. But, there was some entertaining discussions for sure. Wish him luck. Wonder what Hannity will be doing now?

I’m looking forward to Glenn Beck coming to FOX NEWS. I always thought he was totally out of place on CNN.
I hope that someday they put Glenn in the H&C time slot so that I don’t have to record it to watch it.
For that matter, I wouldn’t have a problem if they cancelled O’Reilly and put Beck in THAT time slot. I am tiring of O’Reilly’s bloviating.
UltimateBob on January 10, 2009 at 12:16 PM
Colmes is a decent person personally, but I am not sorry to see him go. Concerning domestic affairs, he merely reiterated Democratic talking points with “gotcha” items provided by Democratic operatives. Like the Communist apparatuks during the Stalin era, he twisted and turned over time to make his views totally consistent with that of the national Democratic leadership. On the other hand, Hannity argues from an ideological viewpoint, which sometimes put his views at variance with those of the Bush Administration. Many of the guests were obviously disgusted with Colmes’ talking points and “gotcha with an obscure fact you haven’t heard of” approach.
Colmes was much more dangeous when talking about foreign affairs because he has a strong ideological viewpoint here. Basically, his approach can be described as appeasement, surrender, America and Israel are always in the wrong, and the more the enemy wants to destroy the U.S. and western civilization in general, the more it needs to be negotiated with and given aid to allay its legitimate concerns. Plus, Israel’s response to any provocation is always disproportionate and merely feeding anti-Israeli hatred. Colmes is the perfect example of the self-hating Jew who believes that he has risen beyond his origins and has acheived enlightenment along with the anti-American and anti-Jewish worldwide elite. I will not cry if his throat is the first to be cut if the Islamcists conquer us. If his thinking governs U.S. policy, they certainly will.
Hannity is pedestrian in his thinking and not nearly as interesting as O’Reilly. He needs a partner of different views who is also principled and smart. (Colmes totally lacked principles concerning domestic affairs and I don’t think he was particulalry smart, although he was nimble in argumentation.) Naturaly, Kirsten Powers meets all of those requirements and is also very personable and telegenic. Fox blow it big-time in not hiring her to be Colmes’ replacement.

Conservatives R Us on January 10, 2009 at 12:46 PM
I second that. I agree much more often with Hannity, but I would probably find Colmes to be a more congenial person. Hannity just sometimes seems to be too full of himself (though without, say, Rush’s tongue-in-cheek aura), but otherwise likeable.

BowHuntingTexas on January 10, 2009 at 2:47 PM
Sean Hannity is not helpful to the conservative cause at all. He is, quite frankly, stupid and easily conquered by talented leftists.
Hannity’s record of conservative accomplishment is extremely thin. He is all show, and no go.
On the other hand, Bill O’Reilly, as obtuse as he can be, at least can point to real results. Liberal judges and educators have been effectively unmasked by O’Reilly, and his “war on the War on Christmas” has actually had an impact upon the culture of the Country.
Hannity always fails to inspire conservative change. The biggest Hannity failure of all is the atrocious result he achieved when he took the Terri Schiavo case to the nation. Not only did he fail to come through for Terri’s family, he also assisted the Democrats by dragging Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum into the fray, a turn-off for many Pennsylvanians who were wondering why Santorum’s attention was so intensely focused somewhere other than Pennsylvania. This turned out to be a major factor in the defeat of Santorum and the election of Pennsylvania’s current Kaspar Milquetoast, Democrat Bob Casey.
And, I happen to know that Barack Obama’s Republican opponent in the 2004 race for U. S. Senate personally asked for Sean’s assistance to fight the Democrats’ release of his divorce records, and Hannity turned his back on him. Thanks, Sean, for nothing.

Wasn’t it Hannity that told us what a great guy John McCain was?
sabbott on January 10, 2009 at 2:56 PM
Colmes is usually wrong, of course, but at least he doesn’t come across as angry like so many Liberals seem to be.
gmoonster on January 10, 2009 at 3:06 PM
I wouldn’t be blaming Hannity for McCain. Lots of other stuff, but not McCain. McCain is a walking nightmare, but many of us were forced to support him against Obama. We take a scalding shower and then move on.
jay12 on January 10, 2009 at 3:07 PM
Colmes may be gone, but that idiot Geraldo still abides. Just heard that moron on FOX casting aspersions against the utility worker worker who tipped off the police in the Caylee Anthony case. Geraldo said he had a “checkered past” and that he had been accused of rape in a domestic situation years ago. Nevermind that the charges were dropped. Then Brian Wilson had to make apologies after the commercial break because it wasn’t rape but kidnapping he had been charged with.

Colmes did a lousy job of actually having a conversation duing his
cross-examinationsinterviews. Of course, hard-head Hannity does little more than ask guests to ratify his scripted talking points. I was hoping the Kirsten Powers fill-in would blossom into a substantive opposing view.Mark30339 on January 10, 2009 at 4:36 PM
Clean House FOX. Next clear out OReilly, Riveria and Smith.
Alan was so very annoying. I will never forget(or forgive) HIM questioning Sarah Palin’s prenatal care on his website. He seemed to equate her travel and premature rupture of membranes as the cause for Trig’s Down Syndrome. He is an imbecile and classless jerk for publically castigating the travel and health habits of someone with whom he had NO first hand knowledge or consent. It was petty gossip, small and desperate…just like the man. Then of course he covered it up. Typical lib. Bye!
Buckeye Babe on January 10, 2009 at 4:58 PM
Sean Hannity thinks anyone that calls into his show is a “great American”, so hearing him say it to Colmes is like him saying “Yeah, you’re a human being that is talking with me at the moment”
I remember someone called the Savage Nation and Savage got all upset after hearing the guy open with “Thanks Michael, you’re a great American”. I would be upset by that too!
Hannity is friggin lame and even went so low as to attempt to criticize my pal pastor Bob Enyart for spanking one of his children with a belt as discipline for having mouthed off to his mom. So, on the radio it was Hannity & Colmes teaming up against Enyart! Just shameful as Hell.
Hannity and Colmes may be “great Americans”, but I am a great nativist. And I hope that the pesudo-Catholic Hannity (remember his tirade against the Catholic priest on the show after he pointed out how Hannity was totally wrong about contraception and Catholic teaching?) loses both his radio and TV show within the next year.

I always liked Alan although I rarely agreed with him. At times, I find Sean H just as annoying. And as far as talking points from the DEMs, often I get the exact same impression from what Sean says; i.e., that his ‘analysis’ is basically REP talking points. Each of them were predictable over most issues.
I’m going to miss the format with the both of them. I hope the new format can still present both sides of arguments.
And a suggestion to serious bloggers:
Calling someone a name and making fun of their appearance doesn’t advance your argument.
Red State State of Mind on January 10, 2009 at 8:15 PM
Relexively defending a party that’s wrong 75% of the time made Colmes predictable and tiresome. It didn’t matter how ridiculous the Democratic position was, Colmes would defend it- and make himself look like a fool in the process.

I think that Hannity (and his ratings) will suffer without a liberal co-host to keep him sharp. It doesn’t have to be as intelligent a person as Colmes. I think that if FoxNews could hire Keith Olberman and pair him with Hannity that would be a show worth watching. However, FoxNews might have to keep them in separate studios – a Huntley/Brinkley setup – for their own mutual safety.

Loyal, if anything Clomes is loyal to the party of nincompoops as one could be. What else could have a man say/suggest some of the most insanely stupid things that he has over the years? Many times I have wondered what would entice a man to be blasted out of his chair with coherent ridicule each evening when he could dine at the trough with his own at CNN?
