I had to go to funeral... just in case you check this thread... in a way you are right, fatah is better than Hamas and Abbas is better than Arafat. Lupus is better than cancer and being a quadruple amputee is better than death...
The main problem is two fold. First, Fatah and the Palestinians do not believe in the mere existence of Israel. Abbas' public rhetoric has toned down, but the underlying hatred remains. The vast majority of the Arab world wants Israel GONE and those that don't have real bounties on their heads. Iran and Syria have tons of control over the Palestinians, and I doubt it would change a whole lot unless the head of the snakes were amputated. Secondly, the Palestinian children have been brought up to hate,to fight and to believe martyrdom is the highest honor. This mindset is hard to eradicate. And considering the Muslims(and leftists) in America that are exposed to our freedom, etc. as well as around the world, are protesting in the streets calling for "bigger ovens" , calling for Jews to be killed...but couldn't get together to denounce 9-11, Bali, London, India, etc proves to me that there are way too many RADICALS worldwide.
These are people who do not protest Hamas using Arab children as human shields, but call Israel "baby killers" when she defends herself from rockets (6,000) firing into her cities where children are...it is hypocritical at it's best, pure hatred at worst...

But… but… But Big Joey Biden said we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon!

And Reagan pulled out of Lebanon saying that the politics of the Middle East were too complicated for us to be involved with. Who was right?

Ed, am I losing my mind? Why is it that cnn.com still hasn't said a word about this Lebanon incident?
It's 10:50 AM and 13 minutes ago they updated a story on how Israel is pounding Gaza yet not a mention of an attack from Lebanon.

I hope Israel doesn't let off. Hope they tell the other Countries including our to F' off! They need to keep stomping out Gaza. Then they need to set an example and bomb Iran sites. Once you know who is in office. He won't help Israel. Also, there were a lot of Jews that didn't vote for that Circus Clown. A lot of my family didn't vote for him. But the ones that did, may God forgive them for their blindness. Not sure if you saw on MSM. But, Joe the Plumber is going to Israel for some web site to cover the war. I hope he tells them that the Circus Clown won't help them. No matter who represents the Palestine People, they will not stop with their violence that is a fact.

I disagree… what regime would help the situation? Fattah?
Israeli “occupation” arguably would make the situation worse, but I want the ultimate goal… Israel being able to better protect herself. Whatever makes that happen is fine by me.

Israel’s biggest problem is how they have allowed the history of the creation of Israel and the history of the “Palestinians” to get completely twisted to the point that no one knows the true story. The lie has been told and perpetuated so long, it is treated as absolute truth. Israel’s major Public Relation failures will never be corrected…

beththebaker on January 8, 2009 at 9:39 AM

Beth,

I think the relative quiet of the last two years in the West Bank has set the stage for the West Bank to be given statehood thru their example of compliance with the Israelis and willingness to let the Intifada go away. Small steps, to be sure. But I believe Fatah is beginning to see the light, and will tone down the rhetoric, and eliminate the radicals sooner rather than later, allowing Israel to make peace with the West Bank and condone statehood for the West Bank.

If Gaza gets run by Fatah, the "moderation illness" might inject itself there as well and both areas could be given statehood by Israel.

I'm not following the West Bank as closely as you, I'm sure. So I could be ill informed. But it seems like the West Bank has been pretty quiet lately, and things seem to be getting better there. Abbas doesn't spout off the hatred nearly as often as Arafat, and so I perceive that things are slowly moving in the correct direction.

Am I wrong?

An Al Jazeera reporter with close ties to Hizbullah said there was no chance the rockets were fired by the Shi’ite terror group, because the rockets were of an outdated model that Hizbullah had not used for years. Channel 10 also quoted him as saying that had Hizbullah wisheded [sic] to open a second front on Israel’s North it would have fired dozens of rockets and not only three.

Who cares what this head of the Hydra calls itself - it's the same body. Focusing on naming the head that is currently biting is a sucker's game.

What is important - pointing out that terrorists don't care who they kill... who is immaterial, it's the killing that matters most to them. Hindu, Christian, other less pure Muslims, black, white, Asian, Jews (for the bonus)- in their psychosis all must die, die, die. Death is their true G*D. In this episode they honor their G*D by bombing the elderly.

Muslim Terrorists bomb retirement home. That's it.

I am a Jew who did not vote Obama… and any Jew who did for the reason you stated has not learned the lesson of the Holocaust! It is a shonda that the American Jews have a death wish.
BTW, Israeli Jews (absentee ballots)overwhelmingly supported McCain

Blessings to you, Beth.

The difference here is the difference between people who know the reality of the threat, and people who are naive and deluded by our liberal media. Hats off to American Jews who can see through the fog of bs and swim against the tide.

I am worried for my Jewish friends with families abroad. As someone said - it's a scary time to be a Jew. With Israel finally focused on castrating Hamas, any other distractions will require help from friends, and I do not believe for one second that Obama is a friend in that sense.

I disagree… what regime would help the situation? Fattah?
Israeli “occupation” arguably would make the situation worse, but I want the ultimate goal… Israel being able to better protect herself. Whatever makes that happen is fine by me.

Not sure there's any solution in the short term. Generational change is probably needed, and a recognition by the Muslims that whatever historical claim they have to land, so too do the Jews, and even the Christians, whose Byzantine empire ruled for over a thousand years. Imo, Islam gets in the way of those types of acceptances, and is the source of the problem.

The only thing the Palis understand is humiliation and defeat. And the Israelis are finally giving them what they need. Hezb'ulla is probably still a little dazed over the events of 2006 and isn't willing to take another whipping so soon.

I hope we see regime change in Gaza, and not Israeli re-occupation.

Israel's biggest problem is how they have allowed the history of the creation of Israel and the history of the "Palestinians" to get completely twisted to the point that no one knows the true story. The lie has been told and perpetuated so long, it is treated as absolute truth. Israel's major Public Relation failures will never be corrected...

coldwarrior on January 8, 2009 at 9:24 AM
Hopefully, the Arab world is essentially on-board with this. They fear the Persians, and I figure that behind-the-scenes they must be rooting for Israel, if not actively aiding them. I hope we see regime change in Gaza, and not Israeli re-occupation.

Channel 10 also quoted him as saying that had Hizbullah wisheded [sic] to open a second front on Israel’s North it would have fired dozens of rockets and not only three.

They are just getting warmed up?
Practice for new Hizbullah <strike>recruits</strike> martyrs?
Waiting for Obama to become President?
Waiting for oil to go a little lower to then start this oil price raising adventure?
