Matthews has a much more powerful platform at MS-NBC to conduct politics than he would in the US Senate.

I keep getting SPAM with the following subject line: As Seen on MS-NBC.

Must be from overseas or they’d know that no one sees anything on that network…except for a few Kos-ers and Huffers.

No wonder GE stock is in the dumper. If he gets $5 mill for the ridiculous job he does and no one is watching him, then my stock will keep plummeting. Can’t sell now. Gotta hang on. I am gonna hate being the ward of the state. I was hoping he would run. I am sure he would be eating humble pie after the primary and out of a job.

I’m not sure I would say that society in general is responsible for MSNBC. Chrissy likes to bring up that the highest 1% has to sacrifice for the people at the bottom of the ladder. Except when discussing the salaries and budget at MSNBC. How many other employees will be laid off so they can continue to pay his salary, and the other 1% of MSNBC “talent” even though their ratings are in the toilet?

My guess is the idea got something akin to a “No, No and Hell No,” response from Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who would have been running on the same ticket as Matthews in 2010. Rendell is a partisan Democrat, but one of the more rational ones out there and knew if Chris was on the same ticket in 22 months and the economy was still in the dumpster, he’d not only have to defend his own actions but would spend much of his time trying to explain why Matthews’ loopy support for Obama and his leg-thrill statements were perfectly logical.

Ed, you mean the people who just had a sitting Congressmen call them racists and stupid ignorant fools and still get re-elected?

In general, you get the government you vote for. We have a large portion of voters who love style and gov’t “free” goodies over substance and character. Matthews (the marginal celeb that Frankin is) would have won.

No one at NBC apparently wants to exercise any editorial control over the “thrill up his leg” hackery, plus they’re still willing to pay him millions along with Olbermann to give a nightly re-enactment of Peter Finch’s scenery-chewing in Network.

Please don’t tarnish one of the great performances in cinematic history by comparing it to the likes of Matthews and Olbermann.

And on the subject of Network, anyone seen that movie lately? Check out the scene where Howard Beale rants about the death of the network head and its ramifications for the news and tell me that this isn’t exactly what’s happened with GE and MSNBC. It’s chilling how prophetic Paddy Cheyevsky’s script was.
