CNN stung by fake atrocity video?

posted at 9:15 pm on January 8, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | regular view

I saw this segment earlier on CNN and wondered at the time how easily this could have been faked.  Pretty darned easily, as LGF discovered, and the questions start where the fakery seems most obvious:

The story was supposedly that a freelance journalist in Gaza returned home to find his younger brother dead, the victim of a missile attack on a residential rooftop from an unmanned IDF drone. The video shows the supposed scene of the attack, and follows the Gaza family from the hospital to the burial, after a heroic attempt by doctors to revive the young child.

Only, when you look at the supposedly heroic effort, it lacks one thing: any sense that the two doctors are actually performing CPR with any effort at all. They stop as though they’ve scripted out the moment. That’s when I questioned whether the scene could have been faked, and at LGF, a physician called shenanigans:

I’m no military expert, but I am a doctor, and this video is bullsh-t. The chest compressions that were being performed at the beginning of this video were absolutely, positively fake. The large man in the white coat was NOT performing CPR on that child. He was just sort of tapping on the child’s sternum a little bit with his fingers. You can’t make blood flow like that. Furthermore, there’s no point in doing chest compressions if you’re not also ventilating the patient somehow. In this video, I can’t tell for sure if the patient has an endotracheal tube in place, but you can see that there is nobody bag-ventilating him (a bag is actually hanging by the head of the bed), and there is no ventilator attached to the patient. In a hospital, during a code on a ventilated patient, somebody would probably be bagging the patient during the chest compressions. And they also would have moved the bed away from the wall, so that somebody could get back there to intubate the patient and/or bag him. In short, the “resuscitation scene” at the beginning is fake, and it’s a pretty lame fake at that.

A little more investigation determined that one of the doctors in the video is notorious terrorist apologist Mads Gilbert. The older brother, meanwhile, is no mere “free-lance cameraman” but the owner of a business that hosts Internet web sites for Hamas. In other words, this looks an awful attempt at propaganda that only a “professional” media outlet with a pre-existing animus to Israel would put on the air without any checking of sources.

CNN has pulled the video from its rotation and its web site, without any explanation or retraction. We’ll see if they own up to their mistake, or simply hope no one notices.

I saw this at the gym today and, aside from my usual state of rage at CNN for airing nonstop “victim” stories, I definitely got the distinct feeling that this was all a sham. And voila!!!!!

Although it’s been a while but I took CPR classes when I was in the Army, part of the combat lifesaver course. The “doctor” giving chest compressions isn’t even pushing down on the kids chest! You can clearly see his hands coming off the chest and he’s half-assing it. As the doctor from LGF said, they’re not even ventalating him.

They have some brass ones trying to pass this as legit.

When someone is actually performing chest compressions, you have to lock your arms out and push down hard enough to crack ribs. That’s not the goal but it happens. Also, he was pushing WAY too fast.

I’ve seen better CPR performed on Baywatch.

A brilliant point! The child victims are probably used as shields by their loving daddies “want to go to heaven, my child?”

Yeah, I remember that you have to lock your arms and interlock your hands. The doctor did neither. I’m not sure if you have to press that hard on a child but judging from how the fake doctor was half assing it, you probably would have to push harder than that.

Hell, they already got him on the payroll (for a few more weeks).

You can use one arm on a small child to help prevent injuring him, but for a 12-year old boy you would probably need both. Obviously you wouldn’t push as hard as you would on someone with the physique of Santa Claus (someone as real as this video).

evenings, which has been typical throughout the various

is that in those reports its always the palestians and
Hamas supporters are the victims!

So ya,thank G-d Israel has the superior-fire-power and

You know … the world where there are far more illiterates who have only religious fervor and believe what they hear from their religious leaders and who are more inclined to believe the things they see with their eyes.

Or, one could think of it as something akin to the pre-renaissance period of Western civilization.

Another thing…

Did you notice when the tech/nurse in the green scrubs handed the DR the EGK tabs? He just casually handed them to the DR and the DR was taking his sweet time applying them?

First of all, and I could be wrong, but we never did an EKG on a person in cardiac arrest. The only thing you are applying is are AED pads. The only time I applied EGK tabs were on breathing, talking alert people who were having chest pain. People in cardiac arrest don’t have chest pain any longer, we don’t need to see their PQRST complex, they don’t have one any longer.

If Dr. Durbin’s book “Rapid Interpretation of EKG’s” taught me anything, it was that this video is BS.

A slight blast from the 2006 past.

F15Mech on January 9, 2009 at 12:17 AM

There are many problems with the video.

It does look like a re-enactment on the dead child.

In addition to the other inconsistencies pointed out, here is why it looks like a re-enactment:

All personnel are wearing clean gloves. The only blood that appears is at the very end from where the man who was doing compressions, and it is scant. Penetrating traumas involve blood, a lot of blood.

No one is assessing or treating the child’s injuries. There is a large blanket covering the majority of his body. This obstruction would be removed for assessment.

At 1:47- 1:50 a reddish pink fluid is visible on the bedlinens at the child’s left hand. At 2:05 the stain is visible again as the child is wrapped. It looks like a blown IV. The stain is red in the very center, wicking out lighter & lighter. And it’s been dripping fluid for a while.

At 2:56 the “dr.” in the video calls the TOD and cause of death as “extreme bradycardia” (slow heartbeat.) It looks like the monitor shows flatline – asystole (no heartbeat). No one in an ER dies of extreme bradycardia.

In the funeral scene, the body does look like a dead body. The child is a casualty of Hamas’ death culture. Hiding weapons and snipers among children is asking for their murder. Further, using this child’s dead body as a propaganda tool in their re-enactment is the pinnicle of depravity.

Entelechy on January 8, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Man, that’s for sure… I watched about 1/2 hour of CNNI once, on the day of the big terrorist bomb attack at the edge of the Green Zone back in ‘04 or ‘05. Unfortunately it was an odd time of day and only CNNI had decent live feeds going. Some twerp named Riz Khan and some snotty female were editorializing, talking back and forth to each other, interspersed with live shots and interviews with local reporters. Some of the venom they let drip out of their mouths, “between the lines” so to speak, was absolutely jaw-dropping. They were evidently upset with “the Americans” and “President Bush” for the terrorist attack (after all, there wouldn’t be a Green Zone if the U.S. hadn’t gone into Iraq…), and not al-Zarqawi or AQI, so much so that they couldn’t even deliver their prompter lines without lapsing into fits of Tourette’s.

I turned it off and have not tuned in since. (Didn’t even know Christiane Amanpour was on the channel, reporting on those “explosions of anger by the disaffected youth”, until reading the comments tonight.)

P.S.

Why is it that Ed Morrissey is always the one left to uncover the REAL news being ignored by The Mainstream Media, while Allahpundit engages over and over again in [accusations deleted]?

Ive taken Basic Life Support and CPR classes too, and that guy wasn’t doing what he should have been. His technique was closer to chest compressions for an INFANT.

You do one palmed chest compressions for a child. His technique, as I said, was closer to that of what you do to an infant. Total fakery.

As mentioned on LGF too, there was no rescue breathing apparent. Since there was a second “doctor,” you would see “Two person CPR.” We saw none of the sort. The 2nd person must stay above the head, holding it, ready to deliver breaths, either by mouth or bag. We saw neither. If he were to deliver by bag, as mentioned by the doctor writing on LGF, there would be someone behind the bed, or at least a 45 degree angle from the boys head.

If this anti-American propaganda was filmed by Hollywood the production would be much better, but nobody would have seen it. Just like all their anti-war movies.

Why would we expect the Palies to understand and execute basic CPR techniques? After all, this is a culture that dresses their children up in fake suicide belts and teaches them the “value” of martyrdom. That may have very well been the first CPR attempt in Gaza’s history. Frankly, I’m shocked that there’s even an ER in Gaza, let alone one that’s not a weapon’s depot right now.

Total BS. I’ve been in the health care field for over 20 years, including a stint as an Army field medic and have seen probably a couple hundred or more codes, primarily in ICUs and ERs. I know a code when I see one and this is not an actual code.

The chest compressions, as mentioned above, are not compressions at all. Typically you lock your arms Unless a very small child) and lean over the patient, compressing the chest an inch or more and at a much faster rate (this guy doesn’t even know how to fake compressions so I doubt he’s even in the health care field. Moreover Dr Compression is leaning away from the body and keeping his head down so the video guy can shoot the scene unobstructed), WHERE’s THE AIR WAY…I can’t see if the pt is intubated, but no one is bagging what good are compressions if your patient is not receiving air, no one is starting IVs or pushing drugs, drawing labs, no portable x-rays, the boy should be naked on the cot with a cath and IVs. The funny part of the video is that the noise that you hear in the background is the warning noise made by the monitor when one of the cardiac leads are off.

But we watch the supposed ER MD look at the monitor as if he’s watching an actual heart rhythm. Impossible b/c at least one or more leads are off the patient, then most telling, watch the guy on the right side of the video (guy in green scrubs) pass something to the ER MD. I watched the video a couple of times and recognized that those are cardiac lead patches. They come in a white pack and you peel those off and apply those to the patient’s chest and then attach the cardiac leads from the monitor to the patient. But wait, the DR was earlier looking at the cardiac rhythm on the machine.

Total BS. The thing has been edited badly and that might help account why things are so obviously out of order but this is certainly not a code in which people are doing anything that could save anyone’s life.

And remember, the Hamas pretenders are the same turds who say the holocaust never happened.Didn’t happen enough. And needs to happen again.

Don’t like history? Deny a tragedy.
Don’t like the present? Stage a tragedy.
