Buchanan: Israel’s staging a “blitzkrieg” on its Gaza “concentration camp”

Not the first time a Nazi analogy has tripped lightly from his lips in this area, although like Cardinal Martino, he doesn’t quite have the stones to own up to what he means. He’s not comparing Gaza to a German death camp, you see, just to your average, run-of-the-mill concentration camp. The fact that he coughed up the word “blitzkrieg” literally in the same breath is but an unhappy coincidence.

A passage from Hitchens’s review of Buchanan’s World War II revisionism is worth quoting:

As the book develops, Buchanan begins to unmask his true colors more and more. It is one thing to make the case that Germany was ill-used, and German minorities harshly maltreated, as a consequence of the 1914 war of which Germany’s grim emperor was one of the prime instigators. It’s quite another thing to say that the Nazi decision to embark on a Holocaust of European Jewry was “not a cause of the war but an awful consequence of the war.” Not only is Buchanan claiming that Hitler’s fanatical racism did not hugely increase the likelihood of war, but he is also making the insinuation that those who wanted to resist him are the ones who are equally if not indeed mainly responsible for the murder of the Jews! This absolutely will not do. He adduces several quotations from Hitler and Goebbels, starting only in 1939 and ending in 1942, screaming that any outbreak of war to counter Nazi ambitions would lead to a terrible vengeance on the Jews. He forgets—at least I hope it’s only forgetfulness—that such murderous incitement began long, long before Hitler had even been a lunatic-fringe candidate in the 1920s.

Exit question: Wasn’t Russia’s assault on Georgia this summer a “blitzkrieg” too? No, wait, I forgot — that was our fault. Click the image to watch.

stonemeister on January 8, 2009 at 10:26 PM

Political Punch:

McCain-Palin campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb writes: “Governor Palin has never worked for any effort to elect Pat Buchanan — that assertion is completely false. As Mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin did attend an event with Mr. Buchanan in her home town where reports described her wearing a Buchanan for President button. She wore the button as a courtesy to Mr. Buchanan and in an effort to make him feel welcome during his visit, but immediately sent a letter to the editor of her local paper clarifying that the button should not have been interpreted as an endorsement of any kind.”…

The McCain campaign says that instead of supporting Buchanan — or even McCain — in 2000, Palin actually supported Steve Forbes.

And indeed, another AP story from August 7, 1999 — one month after the Buchanan trip to Wasilla — states that joining state sen. Mike Miller of Fairbanks on the Forbes campaign’s Alaska “leadership committee will be Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin, and former state GOP chairman Pete Hallgren, who will serve as co-chairs.”

Whenever I hear people using phrases like “Nazi” or “Death Camp”, I know I don’t have to question their argument. There simply isn’t one. This is just a tactic by liberals (YES I called Buchanan a liberal) to make their opponents look evil with out having to resort to those elusive and contradictory things called facts.

Jews persecuted Christians when Christianity first sprung up so I guess we’re even. Christians have a duty to not be anti-semites because it’s the right thing to do, not because we owe them anything. This crap is no different from the minority entitlement mentality we have here. I’m responsible for my actions and the actions of any minors under my care. That’s all. I don’t owe anybody anything. That said, Olaf’s an idiot. So is allah for repeating the Cardinal Martino slander. HE DID NOT COMPARE ISRAEL TO NAZIS OR EVEN REMOTELY IMPLY IT. He called Gaza a concentration camp because of the living conditions in it. That’s as far as the analogy goes. Sheesh. Concentration camps aren’t exclusive to NAZIs anyway. IIRC, the british used them to subdue the boers in Africa.

Darth Executor on January 8, 2009 at 10:50 PM

One of the biggest problems facing the Western world is an overabundance of tolerance. We tolerate atrocities and attacks on our civilization, from within and without. We expect the only Western-leaning nation in the Middle East to sit back and tolerate murderous rocket attacks from the barbarians we have insisted they allow to live in their backyard, when any civilization before them – or indeed, any of their current neighboring states – would have simply eradicated the savages with little remorse. America is similarly expected to tolerate Iranian thugs helping al-Qaeda murder our troops, instead of turning the Iranian border into a vast graveyard, which would have been the response of any nation prior to the 1960s.

On a less bloody front, the American public tolerates politicians who openly work for the defeat of their own country, and routinely make statements that earlier generations would have regarded as treasonous. The common culture tolerates poisonous idiocy like the 9/11 Troofer movement, which our forefathers would have hunted to extinction in a thousand bar fights and sidewalk confrontations. We tolerate nonsense like Pat Buchanan’s lunacy, instead of grabbing him by the ideological collar and giving him the bum’s rush off the national stage.

We collectively tolerate outrages against our electoral system, instead of putting ACORN leaders and Al Franken operatives in prison cells, to make it clear no amount of election fraud will be tolerated anywhere. We tolerate foreign countries influencing our elections, including countless millions poured into Obama’s coffers, when his campaign should have been ended with a thunderous outcry on the day his campaign fundraising hijinks were revealed. We tolerate the authors of the Fannie Mae crisis remaining in power, and even give them more power. We did nothing but shake our collective heads in bemusement as a president committed perjury, or newspapers cheerfully published national-security secrets to hurt a president they didn’t like.

The American people were done a grave injury when they were persuaded that endless “tolerance” is the supreme virtue. We’re going to have to get a lot tougher, and a lot less willing to put up with stupidity and mendacity, if we’re going to deal successfully with the problems ahead of us. We don’t need any government censors to do the job for us – that’s both lazy and abhorrent to the ideals of a free nation. We just have to start tearing the microphones away from these jerks, telling our media companies that they’re not welcome in our living rooms, and shoving them out of office the day after they compare U.S. Marines to Nazis. I wouldn’t mind starting with Pat Buchanan.

That fraudulent travesty of a text cobbled together from a French fiction and Russian propaganda in the late 1800s to stir up hatred against the Jews.

Sort of like Buchanan praising Hitler, denouncing Israel, defending Islamic terrorists, and then turning around and scoffing at accusations of “nazi sympathies”. Birds of a feather, especially since you buy all the Illuminati New World Order horseshit as well.

Frankly, when even right4life, someone I pretty much disagree with on all things, realizes you are an insane lunatic wacko that is half a dozen beers and the plastic rings short of a six pack, it’s time to close up shop. However, I would rather you didn’t. It’s like having a court jester.

hillbillyjim on January 8, 2009 at 10:58 PM

It’ll also be associated with people being boxed in and living in miserable conditions, which describes the Palestinians accurately. That it’s mostly self-inflicted is another matter.

yeah for about 40 years until the jewish state was destroyed and they were dispersed…christians have done it for centuries…I didn’t know christianity was about getting ‘even’…

Israel has done way more damage to palestinians than vice versa. Does that mean the Palestinians are right? **** no. I know Christians have done more harm to jews than vice versa, but they still started it and thus have no right to complain about it. To do otherwise is pure hypocrisy. You can’t hold something over someone’s head when you did it to them first. Furthermore, even if they hadn’t, it still does not mean every living Christian is responsible for what our ancestors did. Again, I’m responsible for my actions and the actions of any minors under my care. That’s all.

huh? I have no ‘entitlement’ mentality over anything…ever breath is a gift…

Then why start up with the “christian church persecuted blah blah blah” crap? It’s completely irrelevant since the individuals involved are dead.

2. Does Israel have the right to defend themselves?

Johan Klaus on January 8, 2009 at 11:30 PM

SaintOlaf,

How is targeting people who are responsible for and/or participated in attacking your country and your civilian population with lethal force considered a war crime?

I consider it a matter of self-defense and survival.

hillbillyjim on January 8, 2009 at 11:34 PM

Pat,

Please hurry up and die, so I can still have some respect for you.

Tim Burton on January 8, 2009 at 11:45 PM

Two questions;

Those are actually good questions Johan, thank you.

1.Yes I believe hamas was firing rockets.

2. What the israeli government is doing is not self defense but full scale attack and regardless of the numerous civilian deaths. They could have prevented the civilian causualities with planning their strategy differently but didn’t because they want the shock and awe of civilian deaths. Geopolitical israel is a theocracy and the government views all non jews as inferior and would like to eliminate them from the area(which was the palestinians homeland for 2,00 years BTW).

So yes my problem with them is their flagrant disregard of human life and their long history of persecuting Christians.(Yes that is the same problem I have with the Muslims too).

I have no dog in this muslim/jew fight. I support the Palestinian Christians.

If we as a country stepped back from supporting the israeli’s unjust actions we would actually gain a lot of respect from many, many enemies of this country who hate us just because we support geopolitical israels unjust actions every time.

It’s a war crime to use civilians as human shields, by firing mortars from a civilian neighborhood. It’s a war crime to shoot from places of worship. It’s a war crime to fight without wearing an identifiable uniform. The Geneva Convention says that those who do these things are responsible for what happens to any civilians who get hurt as a result. As for these war crimes–here comes da judge.

the only part of the church that does NOT persecute the jews is the pentecostal movement…

right4life on January 8, 2009 at 10:30 PM

Whoa, wait a minute! Over the last several decades I have been involved in a variety of Christian denominations, only one of which was Pentecostal, and all of the non-liberal congregations were very supportive of Jewish people and Israel. They recognized that “by (Abraham’s) descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen 26:4) and appreciated the role that the Jewish people have played in God’s plan of salvation.

I think your statement was an over-generalization.

SheofTwoMinds on January 8, 2009 at 11:56 PM

The worst part of this, of course, is giving Saint Loaf a stage.

Nothing wrong with Kleagle Olaf that a tube of Preparation H and a blowtorch wouldn’t cure. Sorry to be so intemperate, but I get cranky around those who want to turn my people into lampshades.

smellthecoffee on January 8, 2009 at 11:59 PM

They could have prevented the civilian causualities with planning their strategy differently but didn’t because they want the shock and awe of civilian deaths.

SaintOlaf on January 8, 2009 at 11:52 PM

The IDF sent advance notice before their attacks so civilians could clear the targeted areas.

lexhamfox on January 9, 2009 at 12:07 AM

One of the biggest problems facing the Western world is an overabundance of tolerance. We tolerate atrocities and attacks on our civilization, from within and without….

Doctor Zero on January 8, 2009 at 10:50 PM

Well said, we think alike and I share your frustration with the status quo. Especially when the answers don’t take a rocket scientist to figure out.

Like the case with Hamas, everybody wants peace with a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel. Have we learned nothing from our battle with Al Qaeda? You don’t negotiate with terrorists, you obliterate them.

There’s also so much corruption, largely from the left and with Obama taking the reigns things will only get worse. Perhaps it’ll be a cathartic experience, 4 years of bad governance might bring people back to their senses. Hopefully we’ll get a strong republican candidate next time.

I don’t know what planet you’re living on..it’s hardly a “stage”.

It’s more like an echo chamber of “kill, kill.kill those dirty brown moooslems” before I comment.

And after I inject a voice of reason and peace, it’s an insult Olaf fest.

Really I’m just dissapointed that so many self professed Christians have bought into this dispensationalist heresy and support the murder of innocent civilians just because some group call themselves israel.

The fact is the Church is the Israel of God. This is absolutely clear in Scripture.

Dispensationalism was invented by John darby in the 1820’s and has ZERO connection to the Historic Christian Faith.

If the israeli government is acting unjust..call them out on it.

It is a travesty to support anti-Christian principles including the murder of innocent civilians and support an anti-Christian regime that persecutes Christians in every aspect, purely because of the name they chose to call themselves.

SaintOlaf on January 9, 2009 at 12:11 AM

Geopolitical israel is a theocracy and the government views all non jews as inferior and would like to eliminate them from the area(which was the palestinians homeland for 2,00 years BTW).

You’re frothing at the mouth you anti-Semitic moron. These are pure, boilerplate Arab anti-Semitic talking points you are spouting that don’t bear any relationship to reality. You haven’t the faintest, foggiest idea of what you are talking about. You see Israel “as trees walking,” shall we say? Did you get this “geopolitical israel” mantra from the same Nazi tract where you got “Judaist?” FYI–the Palestinians were called Arabs until Arafat invented the PLO in 1964. Before WWII it was Jews living in “Palestine” who were called “Palestinians.” After the founding of the State of Israel, (your “Naqba”) they were called Israelis. Arabs were just Arabs, and identified according to their tribes. Next you’ll be telling me that the “Palestinian people” were the biblical Philistines. I don’t know why they don’t ban you from this site, you Nazi.

smellthecoffee on January 9, 2009 at 12:14 AM

Palestinian Christians are complaing about this in droves.

Link?

AUINSC on January 8, 2009 at 11:23 PM

Not a link, and please do not consider this an endorsement of SaintOlaf’s viewpoint, but ….
A Palestinian Christian from Bethlehem came to our church once to tell us about their plight and to let us know how we could support them by buying their crafts. (This is when I learned that Bethlehem is no longer in Israel, which came as a shock to me.) He considered Israel to be the problem. We didn’t buy his story, and frankly, the distresses he described could be attributed to Palestinian thuggery way more than Israel’s actions.

SheofTwoMinds on January 9, 2009 at 12:17 AM

So a Christian must be a dispensationalist to disagree with Olaf? I must have misplaced that memo.

aikidoka on January 9, 2009 at 12:17 AM

So I’m an anti-semite because I said that the israeli government is doing something wrong?

What exactly is your definition of anti-semite then…it sounds pretty broad.

I’ve already proven numerous tiems that i don’t believe in racialism and it is against my religion.

Does anti-semite mean someone who doesn’t agree with everything the israeli government is doing?

don’t you realize it sounds a little pathetic when you accuse me of racism without any merit and cry RACIST to everyone who disagrees with you?

You don’t hear me screaming “Anti-Norwegite” to everyone who disagrees with me.

Johan Klaus on January 9, 2009 at 12:22 AM

So, Saint Olaf, still no response to my offer of coming to Israel?

Are you scared that dem big bad Israelis are going to stone you or whatever the h*ll you said earlier???

Come on, dude, put up or shut up. You have all these generalizations about Israelis. Why don’t you find out if they are true? Or are you just content to regurgitate stereotypes about people you don’t know?

Therefore, if you’re Norweigan, then I can call you a lutefisk eating little p*ssy and you’d be okay with that? Excellent.

It is a travesty to support anti-Christian principles including the murder of innocent civilians and support an anti-Christian regime that persecutes Christians in every aspect.

Give me ONE example of Israel persecuting Christians as Christians. I’m not talking about Arab Christians who are killed because they are being held hostage by Hamas. I’m talking about Israel persecuting Christians because they are Christian–in ANY aspect–forget EVERY aspect. Give me link or go back to your Nazi blogs. I’ll give you a head start. Go here http://www.persecution.org/suffering/index.php the web-site of Christian Concern, and see if you can find all those places where Israeli persecution of Christians “in every aspect,” are cited. Let’s see. . . the countries cited are Burma, Pakistan, India, Cuba, Belarus, China, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines, Armenia, Azerbaijan. Sorry, no Israel. Go away Nazi.

That’s a good question Johan.

The conservative view (paleo conservative not neo-conservative)is, it obviously would have been preferable to remain neutral and stay out of it.

True history shows that the Russians took down Germany not us.

And no we should not have nuked japan that was an atrocity.

The USA would be a much better country if it would listen to the founding fathers suggestions and stay out of everyones business.

Hello, have you ever heard of the Anti-Missionary Law that the theocratic state of israel passed on December 25, 1977.

Israel’s infamous “anti-missionary” law. This is a statute that decrees a prison term of up to five years for any gentile attempting to proselytize a Jew away from his faith. Proponents say this is vital to the survival of Israel because so many young Jews are being seduced away from the fold, largely by Christianity. The severity of the sentence, they argue, is warranted because such theft of Jewish souls can lead to genocide, or the extinction of a race.

SaintOlaf on January 9, 2009 at 12:38 AM

Pat Buchanan is good enough for Sarah Palin.

The Russians beat back Germany from Russia with our help.
(Money and equipment). We fought Germany on several fronts and that gave Russia, with the additional help of the Russian winter, the ability to drive Germany out of Russia.
The U.S. actually, slowed down our advance so that we would not beat Russia to Berlin.

Johan Klaus on January 9, 2009 at 12:50 AM

It isn’t a difficult concept.

The Palestinians are murderous, hateful Muslims, attacking the Israelis during “cease-fires.” They hide behind their young and women.

Israel has every right to defend itself from the savages of Islam.

F that religion. Out with it. Every book, the ahadith, surat, ayat, everything. Down with it all.
