Video: The Coulter-Lauer fight this morning

Ann Coulter returned to the Today show to talk about her new book, but only after Matt Lauer insisted on trying to blame Coulter for the controversy arising from Today’s cancellation of Coulter earlier in the week. She got her slot on this morning’s show after Drudge red-sirened a report from sources at NBC that Coulter had been banned for life, which NBC eventually denied and had to prove false by bringing Coulter back as soon as possible. Coulter rips NBC and Lauer for blaming her for the controversy:
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
It actually never lets up, and it actually gets even more delicious when Lauer challenges Coulter on the lessons of the election. Lauer asks Coulter if she didn’t get the sense that people want to focus on the issues rather than what divides us — as if the issues and the potential solutions aren’t what divide us. Coulter rips the media in return, noting that Obama rarely got challenged on issues, instead getting softball questions on his feelings while “Sarah Palin had to memorize the last seven kings of Swaziland”. Obama certainly never had to explain the Bush Doctrine on national television.
Coulter’s new book, Guilty: Liberal “Victims” and Their Assault on America, is now out in bookstores and on Amazon. I just got a copy yesterday, and I’ll be perusing it — and maybe we’ll see if Ann Coulter would like to talk more about the book than NBC’s vacillation on featuring her on a TEMS show soon.

Banned for life doesn’t sound too bad – how much time does NBC have left?
Vashta.Nerada on January 7, 2009 at 10:59 AM
Liberals have trouble believing that someone can see the same issue and arrive at a different conclusion than they do. They believe you’re simply being disingenuous about the solution you see.

NBC = Guilty

Burris is getting in, just reported:
I predicted that Reid and Obama were secretly happy that this Blago pick of Burris avoided the risk of a special election, turns out I was right. They just had to protest enough to give themselves cover.

they also think conservative voters are brainwashed into these views and only hold them because they listen to Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter for the talking points.

Now to complete the trifecta they need to seat Princess Caroline and the back half of Caligula’s Minnesota horse and the circle of trust is finished.

Coulter is really a Democratic stooge, intended to embarass conservatives.
Actually all Ann Coulter cares about is Ann Coulter. She is a shameless self promoter who makes Ariana Huffington look like Mother Teresa in comparsion.

“What divides us” is racism, sexism, homophobia, y’know, conservatism.

And don’t get me wrong on that comment above, I appreciate that Ann is making decent comments to Lauer about double standards for Palin vs. Obama, unfortunately her past OTT comments mean she is only preaching to the choir. No one takes her seriously. We need a better spokesperson.

Huh, I note a paucity of examples in your libel.

I wish we had 10 more just like her. Coulter doesn’t bring a knife to a gunfight. Worms in the MSM hate and FEAR her because she obviously isn’t intimidated by their “gravitas” and has ways of going around them anyway.
They hate the way she shows the little men and women behind the curtains, who are not the all-powerful Oz.

Well, it’s just plainly obvious to anyone that liberals are smarter, better looking, and gosh-darnit, just nicer people than Conservatives.
I mean, Al Franken! Liberals really are nice people, they are better than everyone.

Coulter is right about most of what she says, but she’s so caustic that it hurts our cause…but she does sell more books being a polarizer.
jgapinoy on January 7, 2009 at 11:11 AM
So wait. . . Republicans are brainwashed by Conservative pols like Coulter/Limbaugh yet Libs are clear-minded in their views while watching NBC, CNN, CBS, and other major telivision networks?
Ok, gotcha.

Who is this “no one”? Are they the same people that thought McCain would be the best nominee for the Republicans because he “reaches out” to the center?
The only kind of conservative that the left will ever take seriously is the kind that isn’t a conservative.
And she’s not our spokesperson, but at least she has the balls to tell Matt Lauer to his face what a tool he is. John McCain couldn’t mention Chris Dodd and Barnie Frank ONCE during the whole freaking campaign.
jimmy the notable on January 7, 2009 at 11:13 AM
I’m not crazy about her delivery at times either, but you’re overstating the case, by miles. She’s still darn good at putting her finger on the ideological impetus of the left, and she nails them repeatedly with examples, which your comment is devoid of.
Richard Romano on January 7, 2009 at 11:13 AM
Again, she was abrasive…but Lauer was an absolute dick. He would NEVER have been like that to Al Franken or any bombastic liberal.
In this case, she mopped the floor with him. She did pretty well with Harry Smith yesterday, but this was a knockout.

Mr. Joe on January 7, 2009 at 11:06 AM
I take Coulter seriously, perhaps because I don’t consider her a “spokesperson” but rather someone who has the ability to make libs look like the hypocritical fools they are.
Bishop on January 7, 2009 at 11:15 AM
Ann is right on here. I don’t know how people are bashing her at least for this segment. She pointedly destroys Lauers arguments and makes him look like a stooge.
She is a self promoter, but she is a dry comedian as well, most anyone doing anything in politics is a self promoter. Just look at Bill O’reilly’s “store”, or any other pundit. The people have to make a living.
spacekicker on January 7, 2009 at 11:16 AM
Further proof that when you don’t have an argument, you reach for insults. Thanks for not disappointing.
As to the segment, Ann’s completely right. Liberals don’t want unity. They want us to shut up and get in line. Suddenly now that they’re in charge, they think that’s what solidarity is all about. Dissent is no longer patriotic, etc….
Esthier on January 7, 2009 at 11:17 AM
No, according to liberals, liberals are clear-minded in the views simply because their views are correct. The only reason they see that NBC etc echo those views is simply because they are interested in reporting “correct” views. Its not because NBC is liberal, according to liberals…NBC is simply correct, and that’s why they don’t believe there’s bias, because how could it be biased to simply report what’s true?
Again, this is just how the liberal brain works, I don’t agree with any of it.
jimmy the notable on January 7, 2009 at 11:18 AM
She’s doing the right thing, she needs to make a contrast to get the notice of things.
the_nile on January 7, 2009 at 11:18 AM
Yes, only after Drudge made her cancellation news. What a coincidence I suppose.
Esthier on January 7, 2009 at 11:19 AM
amerpundit nailed the problem with that quote above. Ann Coulter is not Rush Limbaugh, is not Sean Hannity, and most definitely is not WFB (who fired her). She is self promoting and throwing red meat to her supporters, but she is not moving the conservative ball forward. That is the problem.
Mr. Joe on January 7, 2009 at 11:19 AM
Just ask her about the book, and it will be simple.
Much like Jonah’s book, most people didn’t read it, so don’t have a frame of reference even to begin the interview.
Spirit of 1776 on January 7, 2009 at 11:20 AM
Coulter Critics,
Ann Coulter is a successful author and commentator. Her commentary penetrates our society to a depth that few other conservatives have ever achieved, other than elected officials. Criticize her for the elements that she uses to effect this penetration if you will, but recognize that it’s silly and that the only real argument against her style is that it offends your sensibilities.
Lauer is a fairy, and is out of his intellectual depth during every interview that doesn’t involve a Hollywood celebrity.
Jaibones on January 7, 2009 at 11:21 AM
Exactly. Actually, it’s even worse than that. They think the media is biased… against liberals.
I was floored when my old roommate told me should thought the news was all conservative. Her reasoning: they report on stocks.
Well, she drank a lot.
Esthier on January 7, 2009 at 11:21 AM
But there is NEVER an instance where there would have even been a headline otherwise. The liberal media simply would not have reported it as strongly if nothing had happened. Its like the Bush shoe-throwing incident. Do you think all of these news organizations would have devoted as many hours to a successful, incident-free visit by Bush? No, and the liberal media certainly wouldn’t have reported about the “conservative heroes” at CPAC and how the conservatives are looking good. They simply would have said nothing.
And no, I don’t think that Ann Coulter helps us at all in that regard, but don’t pretend she’s stealing headlines from conservatives, because unless we do something wrong, we don’t get headlines at all. Period.
jimmy the notable on January 7, 2009 at 11:22 AM
Most successful interrogations use a “good cop/bad cop” approach. I appreciate Ann’s willingness and delight in playing the bad cop.
kurtzz3 on January 7, 2009 at 11:22 AM
Who do you see out there who does? I haven’t seen the ball moved forward in my life with the sole exception of my early childhood with Reagan. It’s been rather difficult to be a proud Republican in fact.
Esthier on January 7, 2009 at 11:23 AM
I still love you Ann!!!
Ignore the haters, can’t wait to read the book.
TheFamousOne on January 7, 2009 at 11:24 AM
Take a breath. HotAir and all outlets like it are competitors. You expect Michelle (and Bryan was, imo, unquestionably influenced her in his opinion of Coulter – I think Bryan is great) to take her audience and tell them someone else is brilliant. I doubt it.
It’s marketing partly. Remember how much clamour there was at that time to get her a show on Fox, etc? Competition is competitive – it leads people to negate other’s works. The spin from CPAC was lazy and inaccurate.
Spirit of 1776 on January 7, 2009 at 11:25 AM
May I speak plainly? Lauer, you’re a dipshit.
Metro on January 7, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Sometimes no headline is a good headline. Just like Obama probably wouldn’t have minded little-to-no attention on Richardson if it also meant not bringing up the pay-for-play scandal.
amerpundit on January 7, 2009 at 11:25 AM
She is self promoting and throwing red meat to her supporters, but she is not moving the conservative ball forward. That is the problem.
Mr. Joe on January 7, 2009 at 11:19 AM
According to who, you?
The liberals will tell you that Rush Limbaugh is a clown and a buffoon, as they will for just about any other conservative pundit, do you think HE is “moving the ball forward?”
What do you want, someone to “move the ball forward” in the same guise liberal examples like Barack Obarfy or….*gag*… the butthead senator Minnesota is about to inflict on the nation?
Bishop on January 7, 2009 at 11:26 AM
A superb point.
The only headlines would be on media on the right – so Coulter takes the spotlight of others on the right – which would only be seen on the right.
Spirit of 1776 on January 7, 2009 at 11:27 AM
We don’t have the press on our side. After this recent election, I have a hard time understanding why people seem to think they might be on our side if only we were a little nicer.
Just look at Michelle. She’s incredibly nice and would never pull a Coulter stunt and has even condemed Coulter at times. Does that mean she’s viewed positively by the press (or even by her own co-worker, Rivera)?
No, they give her all the names they give Coulter. It really doesn’t seem to make one bit of difference to anyone except our own side.
Esthier on January 7, 2009 at 11:28 AM
I think the real problem is that liberals have redefined what is outrageous to the point that it’s more outrageous to say Merry Christmas than it is to dress up like a homosexual suicide bomber and walk into a church to urinate on the pulpit.
It’s the same reason they think FoxNews is so conservative… when compared against the liberal MSM, anything that’s fair and balanced is going to look like it’s leaning to the right.
Texas Rainmaker on January 7, 2009 at 11:28 AM
I like her just the way she is. Some of us are actually able to tell other people how it is face to face and not just behind a key board all safe and sound in our living rooms. I sure don’t see anybody else getting on national tv and duking it out like she does. She’s unapologetic and I think that is what really binds most peoples cheese. I noticed a post from Ameripundit quoting Bryan Preston. Many are crying about how Ann isn’t our spokesperson, well Bryan Preston isn’t mine. We need all types in the fight not just folks riding around on their high horses and letting the Dems win because they are afraid to really fight.

She can be strident, but what hurts liberals most is that she makes them look weak. What they fear most is that she tells the truth and THEY CAN’T STOP HER! Everytime they try she sells more books and spreads her message further.
She speaks from her own conservative viewpoint. She doesn’t speak for all conservatives, and I wouldn’t necessary choose her words for myself, but I’m fine with her sparring with tools like Lauer. Oy

I will say that Ann Coulter is more of a man than Andrew “The Sarah Palin Vagina Monologues” Sullivan, but then again Sullivan says “she” is really a drag queen.
I can enjoy the OTT rhetoric at times, but unfortunately she is a characture of what a conservative is. Rush for all his self promotion never lets that happen. Rush is a true believer. Ann? Well she parties and hangs with guys like Bill Maher.
Mr. Joe on January 7, 2009 at 11:43 AM
Mutt used the Anal Colmes interview style: Ask a question and if it appears that you won’t like the answer talk over her. Then say she isn’t answering the question. If he had another brain it would die of loneliness.
thomasaur on January 7, 2009 at 11:43 AM
Funny, isn’t it. When the Democrat Party brings out their ’straight talkers’ like, oh say James Carville, Chris Matthews, or Keith Olberman, their blatantly biased comments and in-your-face behavior are taken as Gospel. When Ann Coulter does the same thing, BLAMMO! ‘She’s ignorant, she’s an ass, she worships at the feet of Rush Limbaugh!’
I’d prefer someone like Ann, who has proven to be remarkably accurate in her pronouncements, to jam the issues down the throats of these over paid, preening, Edward R. Murrow wannabes.
SeniorD on January 7, 2009 at 11:43 AM
I’ll be using my bookstore card gift to buy Ann Coulter’s latest book soon. They are well researched and documented–you can learn a lot of good history from them.
***
Watching her in action is like seeing Ghengis Kahn or Joan of Arc showing up. Caustic, biting, and correct–like Harry Truman said, “If you can’t take the heat–stay out of the kitchen!”
***
Ann calls them like she sees them–and like Harry also said, “They said I gave them hell–I just told the truth and they thought it was hell!” Truman and Ann had a lot in common–neither “suffered fools gladly”.

Well that’s a bunch of Sh$%T and the war against liberalism will never be won with hospitality and kids gloves. You folks don’t like Coulter because she is brash, crass and rough around the edges in speaking her mind. Basically she calls a spade a spade (oh, can I type that now that “the one” is going to be in charge or is that unacceptable “Speech”).
