Given that Obama doesn’t have a line-item veto, I guess he’s proposing to meet (without preconditions, of course) with the Democrats who rule Congress to ask them nicely to not blow the ’stimulus’ bill out by more than a few hundred billion dollars.

Guess who’s gonna win that contest?

If you're referring to King Canute you need to re-read the tale. I think you may have misunderstood. Canute did it to demonstrate that he was just a man, with limits. Unlike "The One".

the only way Obama can get earmarks out would be to veto anything Congress presents to him with earmarks within it… In fact, Obama never even mentioned a veto during the press conference.

Constitution, Shmanstitution. The Messiah has issued his edict: “Earmarking is verboten!” So it is written and so it shall be.

Sure, it’s easy to laugh when all we’re talking about is a few trillion dollars of government graft. But Obama has made clear that he intends to deal with terrorists in the exact same way. His pathological airheaded narcissism has just been cute and harmless up until now. But I’m guessing this won’t be quite so funny once he’s got his finger on the Button.

There probably won’t be a single earmark in the stimulus package. With a trillion dollar package that is nothing but earmarks, why would they need more?

I am not buying it. Obama had no problem coming up with earmarks himself when he was in the Senate, why should I believe this? Besides, Presidents do not control earmarks. I remember when Bush vetoed the farm bill because there were so many earmarks in it and the Congress over rode the veto.

Well … $23,157,332,874 were authorized for it. It is supposed to be operational on June 26, 2315, but they’re running a little bit behind schedule and have said that more funding is needed. There are a slew of new environmental impact reports that are needed before the computers can be bought. You know, flies that might be killed flying into the computer fans, ants that might be singed on the circuitry, …
