John McCain launches his Country First PAC

For those who didn’t get enough of John McCain during the campaign, and I imagine they are few, the erstwhile Republican presidential candidate has a new PAC to work towards his Teddy Roosevelt vision.  Inboxes around the nation received this invitation from Senator McCain to keep fighting and following him after his loss to Barack Obama:

In the time since the 2008 presidential campaign ended I have had a chance to reflect on many things. And as I said on election night, I truly cannot adequately express how indebted I am to you, my entire campaign team and my running mate, Governor Sarah Palin.

The road was a difficult one from the outset. Yet, your faith, your support and friendship never wavered. Just as I have proudly served my country for more than half a century I am as committed as ever to helping see our mission through.

So to continue the movement, I have decided to launch a new grassroots organization called Country First.

Today, I’m asking you as a friend and supporter to renew your commitment to our common goals by becoming a Charter Member of Country First with an online contribution.

Country First will allow us to strengthen our Party, better define our Republican ideals and message, recruit and back strong, dedicated candidates and continue our efforts to bring real reform to government by always putting our country and the noble ideals she stands for first.

Together, we can make government more responsive to today’s problems and more answerable to the people. That’s why I hope you will become a Charter Member of Country First and support our cause by following this link to make a generous contribution of any amount today.

With your help we can work to elect these new leaders to Governorships, Statehouses, the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and beyond. Once in office they will become fierce advocates for limited government, economic opportunity, personal responsibility and strong national security.

On Election Night last year, I called on all Americans not to despair of our present difficulties but to believe always in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here.

Today, I am asking you to join Country First to continue fighting for the worthy cause of revitalizing both our democracy and our Party.

Our goals will never be realized if your voice falls silent. You are the best hope for our country’s success. Please stay in this fight with me; our country needs your service now as much as ever.

I know that together we can make a difference – we already have. Again, I thank you for your unwavering friendship and support.

Sincerely,

John McCain

P.S. Country First will serve as a powerful voice for the American people. It will allow us to get our Republican message out to the voters and elect a new generation of Republican leaders who can go to Statehouses and Congress to fight for all we believe in. Please join as a Charter Member of Country First by following this link to make a contribution today. Thank you.

Color me less than enthused.  I like John McCain personally, but his policy directions to a significant extent run counter to mine.  I like his work on spending and pork, and his adamant defense of the war in Iraq and the general war on terror.  When it comes to immigration and economics, though, I don’t consider McCain a good representative of my views or of the conservative movement in general.  I’d be much more inclined to support an organization that has a solid track record on the entire spectrum of conservative policy, such as Heritage Foundation, rather than a start-up PAC like this.

I got one of these emails. Hold your breath, John.

That’s a line from more than one of his stump speeches.

Shame about the bucks I wasted on the election though…

Just what this country needs. Another excuse to hang a shingle on K Street and beg for money to save the nation from itself.

Why don’t we all just keep the money we’d give him, and save it for what Social Security was supposed to do, and he can keep playing both sides of the aisle? Oh, they call that “bi-partisanship” now. Never mind.

Yeah, I got one too. If I’m giving any money to a sitting senator for their reelection, it’s David Vitter.

When is McCain going to complain about the total, and illegal, abuse of McCain-Feingold that BHO perpetrated in the election with his totally anonymous donations?

McShame can’t even stand up for his own (thoroughly unconstitutional) legislation. Pathetic.

progressoverpeace on January 7, 2009 at 6:32 PM

Ed, aptly reprinted in small letters. Saw it before and barfed. Must send caustic reply to him and his.

The simple and civilized version “Sir, thank you for your enduring service to this once great country, and your good intentions. Now, please retire with grace”.

The money I gave McLame was for Sarah Palin during the came. His quietness and apprehension to defend Palin and conservatives before, during, and after the election was unconscionable and disgraceful. He defends Obama unrelentingly, however we conservatives and Palin were thrown under the bus. His obstruction and objective to destroy the republican party has ended on election day.

Country First will allow us to strengthen our Party, better define our Republican ideals and message, recruit and back strong, dedicated candidates and continue our efforts to bring real reform to government by always putting our country and the noble ideals she stands for first.

John McCain is precisely the part of the Party that needs to be flushed. McCain’s (and moronic McCain supporters like Wise_Men) ideals and message aren’t my ideals and message or that I want the GOP to be sending in the aftermath of two bad elections. I want a return to fiscal responsiblity, traditional values, and a respect for social conservatism and evangelical conservatives. This was opposite the message and ideals McCain telegraphed as he (and his toadies) sought to lure Democrats to team McCain.

Thank you for your service Senator not STFU and go away and take worthless traitors like Wise_men along with you.

I hope this is a joke. A joke about as big as the crappy campaign you ran. I voted Palin/McPalin. I think it is time you retired with your wealthy wife and let us get about the business of kicking Obama’s ass. Something you did not have the balls to do.

Sarah does need a PAC, but in one respect it’s going to suck. The MSM will examine every donation to CudaPac to the third and fourth degree, and if some donor gets a benefit of 50 cents from some state legislation she signs, it will be hailed as a “scandal” on the order of Blago.

JetBoy on January 7, 2009 at 6:41 PM

This really was a dark time in our history. McCain voted with conservative issues 80% of the time, Obama 07%, and the one issue conservatives who disagreed with him on amnesty practically acted like democrats in their treatment of him during the campaign – both before and AFTER he won the republican primary. Of course McCain would have been better than Obama. Of course we could have fought him in the 20% of the time we disagreed with him. And as I said a while back, George W Bush wanted his lawyer Hariet Miers to fill the next supreme court justice spot, and he was fought back. McCain’s attempts at amnesty could have also been successfully fought back as well. And how much power to we as republicans have to change the mind of Obama who will likely be against us 93% of the time?

wise_man on January 7, 2009 at 6:53 PM

Yeah but she stills needs a PAC

joey24007 on January 7, 2009 at 6:50 PM

I hated voting for McCain and I hated writing his campaign a couple of checks even more. By his request for more money, he seems to be under the mistaken belief that I voted FOR him, instead of AGAINST The One.

I’m amazed that McCain is under the impression that people voted for him rather than for Sarah or against Obama. I’m sure there were people who did love him, but we can probably count them on one hand. I remember seeing a video of one of the huge rallies McCain and Palin held together. She spoke first and introduced him. As soon as she finished her speech, the crowd slowly started dispersing even though McCain was speaking. It was clear that they came to see her, not him. I wonder if his ego was bruised badly by this.

Until Palin joined the ticket I had no intention of voting for McCain. I’d have sooner voted for Nader just for giggles.

Typical form, I see. I can’t wait till you start censoring most of your words and wishing really brutal pain and suffering on the Imps of Baalzebub who dare to question His Holiness McCain.

McCain got all the votes he could muster, including mine, and lost. He has used his congressional tenure to attack the first amendment and fight to make our borders worthless alongside two of the most liberal senators in the nation, and drinks the global warming kool-aid daily, to the extent of entertaining the notion of “burying” carbon dioxide.

He is an example of what’s wrong with the Republican Party. We desperately need some non-insider, non-beltway, fresh blood. Sadly, I had my hopes on Paul Ryan and Thaddeus McCotter, but then they both voted to give taxpayer money to more CEOs. Ugh. Zombie Reagan 2012.

wise_man on January 7, 2009 at 6:56 PM

Wise_man,

Yes, we voted for McCain, but it was really a vote for Sarah and against Obama.

But now it is time for McCain to back off and let a new generation of GOP people to run the show, and run it outside the beltway.

McCain is very out-of-touch with reality to a certain extent. You could see it in his behavior during the economic crisis.

He has no moderate to conservative vision and he is really cast adrift philosophically. He still doesn’t understand the true dangers of a huge and overbearing federal government. It is because he is DC all the time.

McCain is the RINO establishment that the GOP must be cleansed of so we can get back to our true conservative roots and work back to a solid core platform and only state-level and local tweakings to combat the Dems.

He is just too eager to be liked by the moderates and Dems rather than truly leading us from the wilderness.

I’ll chip in $5 if it means we never have to see or hear from McCain on any issue whatsoever again.

His credibility would a little bit better if he hadn’t been a national sell out during his Senate career and since he blames us for losing the Presidency selling out isn’t likely a past occurrence.

I had to go along for the ride during the election season, as the alternatives were hardly acceptable. However, now that we’re out of that season, I’m going to find someone to support that has an ACU rating higher than the mid-70s. There are just too many topics on which Sen. McCain and I don’t see eye to eye.

Sorry, John.

I voted for McCain only because of Sarah. There before she was introduced to America. I was going to write in Fearless Fly. Or Atom Ant. It was vital to vote for him on the lesser of the Evils. But, He is to much for Amnesty for illegals. I am not. I noticed that you have to pay to join his PAC. Greed. I guess if one cannot afford to donate. Then they are nothing. No thanks McCain, I am not desperate.

The Lizard People have noted your treachery. As soon as the weather in Minnesota warms up enough for their blood to circulate, you will be punished.

Got the email the other day. I emailed him back and told him to get in touch with his friend and pal General Powell.

Uh oh… looks like someone is relieved to get rid of the dead wood that dragged him down, and getting his ducks in a row for 2012!

*gets lots and lots more popcorn*

If CommentGuy is reading this……………

………. can you give us a little insight into your thinking on this?

Mine……….. the RINO’s have linked up with the Democrats, they know they are in power for at least the next two years, and are promising to spend Trillions.

………. If they, the RINO’s, a.k.a. John McCain, don’t keep their movement alive, in an effort to keep real Conservatives down, then they don’t get the scraps off the table.

Interesting that old John just didn’t join Newt’s American Solutions instead of trying to re-invent the horse drawn buggy…….

………………. his wife has money, why not just have someone write a book for him?

I’ll donate only to send his wrinkled a$$ to the old folks home, or better yet Sun City is right down the road, my friend.

The only hope that McCain has to make the history books 50 years from now is that maybe they will mention him in a footnote as the person who initially put President Sarah Palin the Great on the national political stage.

Jim62sch on January 7, 2009 at 7:39 PM

So I guess this means he’s not retiring any time soon.

SouthernGent on January 7, 2009 at 7:39 PM

Well I hope you drop dead of a stroke in one of your fits, little man. Sod off.

wise_man on January 7, 2009 at 6:56 PM

Totally not cool, dude. Put the crack pipe down and go play with other haters over at the KOS with the kiddies.

Knucklehead on January 7, 2009 at 7:40 PM

Which politicians is he supporting?

I will make sure to vote against every one of them that I can.
