Video: I’m not closing the door on 2012, says Palin
posted at 8:51 pm on January 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
Ten minutes with the Canadian answer to Carson Daly for your edification on a slow news night. Nothing too provocative, although there’s an enjoyably tense moment around 10:30 when she’s asked if she ever thought her critics were right about her being unqualified.
In any case, I need an excuse to update the poll post from this morning and this’ll do. An eagle-eyed reader checked Newsmeat, which I should have done, and found out that the polling firm involved has a history of donating to — ta da — Frank and Lisa Murkowski. So if you’re wondering how reliable the data is, weigh that accordingly.

Great interview. Wish there was a cure for PDS. Some peeps sure need a shot in the ass…

This is why Romney lost. And this is why he’ll lose again.
As Margaret Thatcher said, “Conservatives who raise taxes lose elections.” Mitt raised taxes and fees and was multiple choice on every thorny social issue. He would just keep talking until he said something we liked.
I think he’s our Howard Dean. He’s not going to win the nomination, but he’s a savvy political mind. The real shame is that he didn’t run for RNC chair. He would have been awesome in that role. He’s the ultimate CEO.

Sarah Palin is a Socialist:
“We’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” – Sarah Palin
So much for the myth.
Poptech on January 7, 2009 at 1:37 PM
That is a lie, Romney never raised taxes. He did raise fees but your failure to understand basic economics is the problem:
How service fees work in the free market is they must equal their cost + profit. In Government they must equal their cost otherwise you are subsidizing them through taxes. That is the reality. You cannot get something for nothing. Raising fees to cover their costs REDUCES taxes. The solution after that is to cut the cost of the service to reduce the fees. But the Mass Government had been subsidizing their costs through taxation and that had to stop.
Poptech on January 7, 2009 at 1:40 PM
Wow, you have completed the PDS and become truely redundant.
FYI there jacka$$, Alaska (as in the people whom live here in the State) own the mineral rights, oil, etc. I.E. the Government does not own it.
We have our own infrastructure for energy, food in some cases and…. say it with me.. MONEY!
What other State is self suffcient? Name one. Also… How many States have a Budget Surplus? Hmmmmmmmmmmm
upinak on January 7, 2009 at 1:42 PM
When he took office, Romney faced a budget deficit of $3.2 billion, which he eliminated. He did not hike personal income or sales taxes. He is now highlighting his efforts to cut Massachusetts’s income tax rate from 5.3 percent to 5 percent and his successful shepherding of a $250 million capital gains tax refund through the Democrat-dominated state legislature.
But he increased fees for getting married, buying a house, bringing a case to court, and using a public golf course, to name a few reported examples. However, in a move that could prove controversial with social conservatives, Romney decided not to raise fees for convicted sex offenders. He vetoed a $75 fee for offenders required by law to register with the state.
Romney and taxes??? Hmmmmmm

Limey,
As much as it would be cool if Sarah ran in 2012, if she holds off to finish her second term as governor first and then devote 2015/2016 to run for POTUS, that would be OK with me too.
And NO, you ain’t spanking our Sarah evah. I’ll be there with Megyn Kelly as my lawyer, rip your head off, and then plead insanity defense.
But, I feel your … want…need… for Sarah to run. I could never criticize anybody for that.

If Mitt had a past record of some more conservative accomplishments, he’d be and excellent choice for RNC.
By the way, did anybody see the RNC Chair debates on Monday? This was a WAY good idea.
Although I was initially for Michael Steele or Saul Anuzis, I’m definitely for Blackwell and Anuzis for his CTO (Chief Technology Officer). These two would be dynamite.
I especially loved the way that Blackwell emphasized how the GOP power must come from the grassroots and run without the meddling of the inside-the-beltway leadership that is really out of touch. I read his plan too. Impressive.
He’s our man. Almost every word out of his mouth rang the political/philosophical/economic bell. This guy knows his s**t.

Poptart is reading this ONE paragraph
I guess it doesn’t matter that our Perm Fund Dividened has been around since 1980 (estabished in 1976) and anyone who has lived in Alaska for more then 2 yrs and is and stays in Alaska gets this check. It is a Dividend to the people who own the Oil and Gas.
But we also pay quite a bit more for fuel, nautral gas and other items to KEEP US WARM! So Palin gave us a Econimoic Stimulus Check for 1200 this year.. which helped out enormously.
Most people do not understand. The money isn’t free I have to pay taxes on it still as income. Some people will never get it, and can be jealous. I have been here since 80 and recieved it…. why should I stop getting it since I have lived here almost my whole life because other don’t want me to have it because they do not understand.

Americans in the other 49 states have no clue how harsh the environment is up there. I have a lot of respect for people who can live that life. We bitch and moan in the lower 48 as total pussies when the temperature drops to 40.
Sapwolf on January 7, 2009 at 2:03 PM
You people still don’t get it.
The more you attack the woman unfairly, the more her supporters dig in to defend her. Think Leningrad ’41-44. I and others would eat bread made of wood chips for this woman. Attacking her in this fashion only breaks Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment and betrays that you are not a real HotAir member. There are HA members who are not as big fans of Sarah, but you don’t see them attacking her unfairly.
The Team Sarah site gets spikes in new members every time Sarah or her family is unfairly attacked by the MSM.
Her grassroots support is growing. They are like white blood cells attacking malignant dangers to her body politic.
Will it last? I don’t know. I like her and Jindal. If she fails me, I’ll gravitate to whoever looks like the real deal.

Giving the people of a state a stake in their natural resources is an excellent way to promote development. That’s why the Republicans were calling for state revenue sharing of off shore drilling. If the state’s get some of the money, they will be eager to develop.

I am sure we will see Poptech’s idiocy reposted again in a couple weeks, though all of these stupid arguments were shot down during the election…
Alaska was a territory of the United States before it became a state. In the early days of the country, before the U.S. constitution was written Congress had worked out a territorial system for the areas such as the Louisiana Purchase, the Oregon Country or Alaska that wanted to be part of the United States. They had to first prove that the area had a large enough resident population and a way to sustain itself economically. Until then, Congress would hold those areas in a sort of second class status, as a territory.
SNIP (but the enire page is really worth reading.)
To become a state, the residents of a territory had to persuade Congress that they were law-abiding, that they could run a state responsibly, and that they could plan and build for the future of the new state. Alaskans had already proved that it could in the statehood campaign from 1946 to 1958.
The population of Alaska was small in 1959 when it became a state – barely over 225,000 (c. 45,000 Native). Congress did not think that such a small population could generate enough tax dollars to pay for state government. Therefore Congress included two measures in the statehood act to help pay for the new state. The first involved federal land in Alaska. Sixty percent of the land in Alaska – 225 million acres – was set aside as federal land. By the first measure, the federal government gave to Alaska 90% of the profits from mineral lease sales on the federal land in Alaska. Oil is one of the most important minerals in Alaska, and to this day wherever oil or gas leases are sold for exploration or development on federal land, 90% of the revenue is given to Alaska.

On several occasions now SP has stated she was being flippant in her interview with Couric regarding the ‘newspaper’ question. But let me put it another way: while being interviewed by Couric did SP come across as drunk or stoned, did she suggest that criminal activity be engaged in, did she reveal state or national secrets to the world, for the bulk of the solo interview, not just snippets (the interview was shown over 4 days) did she embarrass herself, McCain, Alaska and America, given that McCain and SP the next week sat down with Couric with few comments from the peanut gallery to the joint session with Couric? Sure I will be the first one to say she was NOT at her best when interviewed solo by Couric, but to keep bringing that interview up time and time again to somehow prove how incompetent SP is and not a worthy candidate for national office is like referring to 2006 when Tiger Woods missed the cut at the US Open and claiming that Tiger is no longer a force in golf; everybody has a bad day-anybody out there even you pesky trolls-you have faltered on occasions-yes SP did not have her best day but so what-Sarah Palin has moved on from the election but so have many of the 60m voters who voted McCain-Palin. McCain is yesterday’s news; Sarah Palin is the voice of today and tomorrow, no matter how much you want to make out that she is ‘permanently damaged’ and that she will never be able to recover from being perceived to being a moron. Trolls of the world: SP will recover despite your best efforts to send her to the back of the bus or throw her off the bus or under the bus. She has talent and charisma; you can’t teach it or bottle it-some people would refer to it as political genius. Finally over the next 4 years whatever lack of performance you perceive in SP regarding the Couric interview, it will be overshadowed by the ruthless attempts by Obama and his merry men and women to impose socialism on America, to end right-wing talk radio and to dismantle the Constitution. Going forward there will be far greater issues to contend with than what Sarah Palin reads at breakfast or on her computer.

The was the best post election interview with her that I’ve seen.
When he showed her the reaction to that SNL clip on “The View” and then asked her for her reaction, she looked genuinely hurt. It’s moments like that that really humanize politics. I can’t imagine having to see members of my own family being treated like that.
Best line from the interview: “Because, Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe.”

It’s not that she could not name a newpaper she reads–it’s that she WOULD NOT name a newspaper she reads. Sarah says she was being FLIPPANT, which for those of you in Rio Linda means she thought Katie disrespected her by considering a rube or trailer trash with that question and Sarah dealt with the question the same way by being dismissive.
A second theory is that Sarah by naming specific publications would have been asked about other articles in those publications which the she was probably not conversant with or the McCain campaign had given her strict orders not to comment about.
In any event, you have to be a complete moron to believe that a Governor of a State cannot cite any newspapers that he or she reads in a course of day or a week. I loathe Obama but do I think he couldn’t tell reporters what newspapers or magazines he has read in the last month? No! I am not a moron and neither is Obama. And neither is Sarah Palin.

She said, “To me the question was more along the lines of ‘do you you read?’ ‘what do you guys do up there?’…and perhaps I was just too flippant in my answer back to her. But, of course, I read newspapers. I read publications. I spend a lot of time, of course, reading our local papers and the highly circulated publications here in Alaska because that’s my job — it’s to know the business of Alaska and our communities.” She added that she also reads USA Today and the New York Times.

You call Palin a “socialist” because she follows the CONSTITUTION
if she didn’t follow the Constitution you would call her an “authoritarian fascist”
Your little game has been figured out

There are two governors:
One looks at the Constitution and beings to distribute a check to the residents of her state and then proceeds to cut taxes and government spending
The other one introduces Government Mandated Health Care to his state and then, because he is a slick politician … he doesn’t raise taxes but raises fees.
End of story
