Video: I’m not closing the door on 2012, says Palin
posted at 8:51 pm on January 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
Ten minutes with the Canadian answer to Carson Daly for your edification on a slow news night. Nothing too provocative, although there’s an enjoyably tense moment around 10:30 when she’s asked if she ever thought her critics were right about her being unqualified.
In any case, I need an excuse to update the poll post from this morning and this’ll do. An eagle-eyed reader checked Newsmeat, which I should have done, and found out that the polling firm involved has a history of donating to — ta da — Frank and Lisa Murkowski. So if you’re wondering how reliable the data is, weigh that accordingly.

This is good news :-).
I think she was given far, far from a fair shake from both Katie Couric the bigoted feminist and some of the W. transplants to the McCain campaign who let this happen too fast, too soon and too often.

I saw this interview a few days ago and I thought the interviewer was an ass.
Anyway, Palin handled herself well as always.
The MSM are trying their “best” to eliminate any chance of Palin running for the presidency. She will and win.
The amount of enthusiasm for Palin is unrelenting. I betcha she is reading up as Ann Coulter suggested to annihilate her competition in the primaries and in the general election. She is that good.
But I disagree with Coulter and others that in eight years Palin is ready. She will be ready in four years no doubt about it.

Top 10 Reasons Romney Is a Weirdo and Lost the 2008 Primary
1. Why he hates the French more than snowmen.
“First, Not France”
(February 27, 2007)
2. Why his favorite book is Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard
“The one by L. Ron Hubbard…I’m not in favor of his religion by any means, but he wrote a book called ‘Battlefield Earth’ that was a very fun science fiction book.”
(May 1, 2007)
3. Guns and abortion: evolving perspectives.
“I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I’ve been a hunter pretty much all my life.”
(April 3, 2007)
“I’m not a big-game hunter. I’ve made that very clear. I’ve always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will. I began when I was 15 or so and I have hunted those kinds of varmints since then. More than two times.”
(April 5, 2007)
4. Hitler had some good ideas.
“Liquefied coal, gosh. Hitler during the Second World War — I guess because he was concerned about losing his oil — liquefied coal. That technology is still there.”
(April 19, 2007)
5. What not to say to fiercely anti-Castro Latino Republicans gathered for the Miami-Dade Lincoln Day Dinner.
“Hugo Chavez has tried to steal an inspiring phrase — ‘Patria o muerte, venceremos.’ It does not belong to him. It belongs to a free Cuba.”
(March 9, 2007)
NOTE: It is a starkly fascistic phrase that was, in fact, a tagline for Castro, who Romney had, earlier in the same speech, declared “a stain on Cuban soil.” It means means in Spanish, “Fatherland or death, we shall overcome.”
6. Throwing your wife under the bus. Mitt Romney was pro-choice at one time, but when he was asked about a contribution to Planned Parenthood from his wife at that time, he inartfully dodged the issue.
“Her positions are not terribly relevant to my campaign.”
(May 10, 2007)
7. Are the French Mormons? Are they from outer space?
“In France, for instance, I’m told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past.”
(May 5, 2007)
NOTE: France’s civil unions have no set date, but seven-year marriage contracts are a plot point in the “Memories of Earth” science fiction series by Mormon author Orson Scott Card, a retelling of the Mormon theology in which the limited marriages stand in for the other non-traditional marriage practices of that faith.
8. How not to talk about national security and sound like you’re ordering a coffee at Starbucks.
“Some people have said we ought to close Guantanamo. My view is we ought to double Gitmo.”
(May 15, 2007)
9. Trading your for “governor” cap for your “management expert for President” cap.
“I’m not going to weigh in. I’m still a governor.”
(December 28, 2006)
10. Snowmen.
“I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman.”
(October 1, 2007)

Loved how that “enjoyably tense moment” was not about how she was “inexperienced,” but rather indignation when he called her a liar after she denied inciting Republican mobs to kill Obama and expressed outrage that her own children were subject to attacks from the left.

Bishop on January 6, 2009 at 9:15 PM
It was good to see her willingness to counter the usual media assumptions. I really enjoyed when he went after the comments some people made when she was campaigning that were negative toward Obama. It looked like he was fishing for her to acknowledge she fed some nastiness toward Obama- she didn’t justify what was said, but came right back with the T-shirts & posters in the audience at Obama & Biden rallies.
Way to go! He couldn’t push his “Republicans were fostering violence and hatred” spiel while she was laying those examples from the Dem side on the table.
That’s how you fight. Don’t make excuses for dumb people on your side, but don’t get defensive & apologetic when the other side is doing the same crap- suck it up & take it to them.

I hope several Republican politicians don’t close the door on 2012 (including Palin). The more people we have to choose to from the better, in my opinion. Although, I hate it during the debates the networks have like ten people with podiums and only two people get all the questions.

Hmmmm….
I actually thought that he was quite respectful and fair, especially considering his political leanings. He let her answer the questions fully, and they were similar to ones she had already answered in other interviews about the campaign. Besides, it’s good for her to face ‘hostile’ interviewers. If she does decide to run for national office again she’s going to have to run the press gauntlet so she needs to stay ‘in shape’ for it.

That’s the only way to do it and that’s one of the big reasons why Republicans lost in 2006 and 2008–the Republicans made excuses and refused to call the Democrats on their BS.
Palin’s got four years before 2012–four years is a long time to learn and grow in. She impresses me as the sort who does not repeat a mistake and is really a natural. She still has a lot to learn, but again, there’s plenty of time. Maybe she’ll go in 2012, maybe 2016–let’s see what she does…
Matt Helm on January 6, 2009 at 9:23 PM

If Team Sarah reaches 100,000 supporters it will be hard for Sarah not to strongly consider running in 2012. If only these supporters each (remember there are many more out there) donated $100 to her future campaign she would have seed money of $10m–not a bad place to start with.

All she has to do to be ready for president is to run for the presidency. That is what the New York Times, Cnn, Msnbc, ect. told us why BO was ready to be president.
So she should run for the presidency in 2012 and kick BO behind.
BroncosRock on January 6, 2009 at 9:26 PM
Let’s not worry about 2012. It’d be nice if someone in Congress would be a leader and come up with some plan of action for conservatives and the GOP.
I have no idea why Paul Ryan isn’t the leader in the House.
This party has been leaderless in Congress for a while.
Where’s Newt when you need him?
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 9:27 PM
Nope, it’s because too many Repubs couldn’t stop calling McCain names and falling over themselves over Palin.
The GOP was, and still is, without any cohesion. The Dem’s thrive on disarray it seems, but us Republicans need more structure if we’re gonna win again.
JetBoy on January 6, 2009 at 9:28 PM
It sounds more like a personal grudge. Palin took on her own party’s entrenched interests, and it cost Murkowski his job. I bet Lisa’s still sore, too.

Jeb Bush is not even going to run for Senator in a couple of years much less for President in 2012. I’m not a Bush basher but I think we learned with the defeat of Hillary in 2008 that people are tired of dynasties.
terryannonline on January 6, 2009 at 9:29 PM

ramrocks on January 6, 2009 at 9:30 PM
Of course he did. As did most of the GOP. He’s not perfect, but certainly better than Boehner.
Jim Demint is my favorite person in all of Congress. There’s a conservative. Smart guy too. Too bad we can’t have actual conservatives in charge on the hill.
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 9:31 PM
The thing is, Jeb Bush would be an excellent President. He was one of the best governors Florida has had. He handled the hurricane blitz a few years ago masterfully and got things done in Tallahassee–not the easiest place to get things done in.
That being said, barring something unusual happening, I don’t think he’s going to run. The Democratic Party and its media lapdogs have done a good job in running down the Bush name in the minds of many in this country. Added to that, the real mistakes made by his older brother, and I think he realizes that it’s going to take time and a Democratic train wreck taking place before he can realistically put his hat in the ring.
Matt Helm on January 6, 2009 at 9:32 PM
K-Lo over at National Review likes him. She also adores Romney. NR became Romney central. If they start pushing for Jeb, we could very well end up with Jeb. That’s why we need a grassroots revolt. Sarah Palin is it. In 2004, the grassroots Dems got behind some nobody state Senator who gave a stellar speech at the DNC. Fast forward four years later, and he’s now our PEOTUS.

Jim62sch on January 6, 2009 at 9:38 PM
The same thing was said about another Bush who was the governor of a big state.
No more Bushes. Period. End of story. It won’t be just the leftwingers fighting a future Jeb Bush presidential run. I’m as rightwing as you can get, and I walk every precinct in every swing state until I wear my legs down to nubs before I see another Bush in the White House.
ramrocks on January 6, 2009 at 9:39 PM
John McCain was an excellent candidate. Too many conservatives just couldn’t get off their “amnesty”-derangement. Obama was handed the win.
Again, I have nothing but respect and admiration for Palin…but no way in heck should she have been the veep pick, much less the heir-apparent to the GOP throne like so many are making her.
A lot can, and probably will, happen in the world in the next 4-8 years. I think most, at least subconsciously, want Palin only because the Dems dislike her so much. And that’s no way to win an election.

chunderroad on January 6, 2009 at 9:44 PM
As I said, I don’t think he wants to run. He’s not a fool–he knows that the constellation of forces against any possible successful campaign are so great that it would take something truly unusual to happen in 2012 for him to make a winning run.
Jeb knows when to hold ‘em, when to fold ‘em, and when not to get in the game. Right now, I’m betting that he doesn’t even get into the game.
Matt Helm on January 6, 2009 at 9:44 PM
Who knows? Maybe there is a fund developing for that. There are Catholic ministries for inmates. However, I heard Levi’s Mom is out on bail so she is not convicted and doing prison time, at least not yet. Maybe they will show mercy for her.
I visited a St. Vincent client who asked for help in paying for her perscription. When I presented it to the pharmacist, she smiled and told me they were getting a whole lotta bad perscriptions from the particular doctor, the medicine was locked in a safe due to its powerful nature, and that two perscriptions open was not a good sign. She said that the woman was probably not using it all herself but breaking it up and selling individual pills. I smiled, learning a bit more about the drug industry. The drug was a powerful painkiller that started with the letter “R”. It was not the one that Levi’s Mom bought/sold, but similar in effects.

John McCain wasn’t a good candidate. At least in comparison to Barack Obama. I agree that some conservatives go overboard with the immigration deal. I’m all for secure borders, but you have to be nuanced with your words so you don’t come across as a bigot.
McCain was past his prime. I think he would’ve made a pretty good president back in 2000. And certainly a better president than the prick we’re about to have. But I don’t think he was a particularly good candidate.

She must truly frighten you. Me, I think she’s got the makings of a winner. She’s quick, intelligent, capable, that’s what I want in a leader–I could care less what their stock portfolio is, how many companies they’ve been a CEO of, whether they graduated with an Ivy League degree or not (in fact, an Ivy League degree is a disqualifier in my book), whether they go to the right cocktail parties or not or whether they’ve mastered, “The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain.”
There’s a populist revolt brewing–and I have a feeling it’s going to come to full fruition in 2012

I remember George Strombloblablawhatever from Much Music. He was extremely liberal and anti-American. I stopped watching Much Music when he did his show wearing a t-shirt with an upside down American flag on it and went on a tirade against Bush and Iraq.

McCain in 2000?
Palin had the right judgment then … Steve Forbes!
joey24007 on January 6, 2009 at 9:50 PM
Yes, John McCain was my choice the day after Fred Thompson dropped out. And no, I’m not a “troll”, nor a “lunatic” (a little nuts perhaps, but no lunatic)
McCain-derangement is still alive and well I see tho.

Forbes is a bit pompous. I was only 15 in 2000.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I think McCain would’ve made a better prez than Bush.

Anyone that cannot name a newspaper they read should not be president.
