Much funnier in concept than execution, but still strangely compelling as a rare example of a beta male being willing to satirize his own beta-ness. He’s a good sport. Especially after last month’s “Daily Show” unpleasantness.
No need to watch the whole show; the Colmes segments are at the very beginning and the very end. Come for the sight gags, stay for the “taint” jokes!

Who’s Colbert?
Akzed on January 6, 2009 at 4:37 PM
I’m so tired of anyone on Comedy Central being considered a legitimate news source that I’m not even clicking.
MadisonConservative on January 6, 2009 at 4:40 PM
A show by a middle-aged liberal using every stereotype to go after righties watched by 20-year-old know-nothings? Gee, no thanks.
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 4:42 PM
Which one gets the Obama Press Spokesperson job, Colmes or Colbert?
PappaMac on January 6, 2009 at 4:43 PM
I watched it and aside from the sight gags (where they put the pictures over Alan’s head) I wasn’t too impressed.
Besides which, Colbert himself is a liberal, its not like they’re replicating the H&C format.
Ryan Gandy on January 6, 2009 at 4:44 PM
Please submit that to TV Guide. Great summary!
sherry on January 6, 2009 at 4:48 PM
Oh Alan, how you have fallen. Sitting as the Mini-me to Steven Colbert?
portlandon on January 6, 2009 at 4:49 PM
South Park rarely disappoints.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 4:49 PM
Don’t let the fact that a Pew Research Study showed that viewers of the Daily Show and Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs get in the way of your insightful commentary.
Besides, you guys have that awesome Half Hour News Hour for laughs, right?
benny shakar on January 6, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Equal opportunity mockery. I’m all for it.
hillbillyjim on January 6, 2009 at 4:53 PM
Both guys look like they die their hair with shoe polish.
Akzed on January 6, 2009 at 4:53 PM
First of all, a link would be greatly appreciated. Second, I didn’t find the Half Hour News Hour funny.
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 4:54 PM
Yeah, polls are useless like that. Post it and its methods if you want to be taken seriously here.
The last poll I heard of was comparing Daily viewers to other viewers of comedy shows. So people who have some exposure to news scored higher than those who have none? OMG!!
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 4:57 PM
No one did. That’s why it was canceled.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 4:58 PM
Who the hell thinks that comedy central is a legitimate news source?
Oh. That’s who.
wise_man on January 6, 2009 at 4:59 PM
Oh, Good Lord. I think I found the survey. It asked people to identify Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Californian Governor, say that Hillary Clinton was running for President, that more civilians have died in Iraq than troops, etc.. This is basic crap we’re talking about here.
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 5:00 PM
Together, they make one real man, maybe.
Entelechy on January 6, 2009 at 5:01 PM
He doesn’t have too. He watches the Daily Show and Colbert Report.
pt on January 6, 2009 at 5:03 PM
I have my television generally running constantly as background noise when I’m doing things. I always change the channel when Colbert or Jon Stewart come on. The only shows I do that for. I refuse to watch their fake news liberal propaganda.
Vegi on January 6, 2009 at 5:04 PM
Actually, the last such poll showed that Rush listeners and H&C watchers scored the highest. Colbert scored somewhere in the middle.
But don’t let that stop you from defending liberals at every conceivable turn. Don’t you have a pro-Hamas rally to get to?
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:05 PM
That is not exactly what the report said.
From the report:

Yes, Obama voters one and all. Oh btw, how did those on the street interviews about their knowledge of political issues, by a Zogby sponsored poll work out?
Howard Stern also exposed all those Obama supporters for the ignorant tools that they are and they didn’t even know it. Kinda like you. Go figure.
JAM on January 6, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Beat me to it Jimmy. The report basically bears out what Amerpundit opined.
brtex on January 6, 2009 at 5:08 PM
Yes my friend, those simple questions are among a few selected items from a far more comprehensive survey… in which Fox News viewers came in dead last.
You people need to work on reading comprehension and critical thinking skills if you have any hope of branching out beyond merely preaching to whats left of the GOP choir.
benny shakar on January 6, 2009 at 5:08 PM
That’s why AirAmerica failed. I lost interest after about 2mins.
Static on January 6, 2009 at 5:09 PM
What about Redeye? I wish they’d air that show at a time when people could watch it. It’s quite funny.
Outlander on January 6, 2009 at 5:09 PM
South Park has as much to do with Comedy Central as Howard Stern does with the FCC. Comedy Central has refused to air and re-air episodes from time to time purely out of political correctness. South Park is a step above.
MadisonConservative on January 6, 2009 at 5:10 PM
Critical thinking for benny equals “Hope & Change”. Heh!
brtex on January 6, 2009 at 5:11 PM
Can someone help me out here? I can’t remember what the poll was, but I KNOW Fox viewers came in first.
If anything, mine and benny’s results just prove that Colbert viewers are no more educated than anybody else.
The only poll I remember seeing about Colbert/Stewart viewers was that viewers of their show were somewhat more educated than people who watch no news whatsoever. Big whoop. A different poll showed that people who watch actual news shows are more educated about news issues than people who watch fake news shows.
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:11 PM
Dead last?
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 5:17 PM
It really is.
At least two people here have proven you wrong, and you haven’t even posted a link yet. Maybe you’re not the one who should be preaching about leaving the choir.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:19 PM
Wrong link.
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 5:19 PM
And here.
amerpundit on January 6, 2009 at 5:21 PM
I’m pretty sure that’s not the poll I’m talking about.
This one listed specific questions and how well each different group answered them.
Questions like:
Which party controls congress?
Who is the Senate Majority Leader?
Who is Speaker of the House?
And it would list percentages of each, and Stewart/Colbert people did shockingly bad.
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:23 PM
Two empty suits!
grapeknutz on January 6, 2009 at 5:23 PM
This entire government is a sick joke, so why not report its activities via Comedy Central?
rplat on January 6, 2009 at 5:23 PM
Ah! That must be the one!
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:23 PM
Okay, so they didn’t do shockingly bad, they did beat “generic fox news channel”
But they both lost in the “all three category” to both Rush listeners and viewers of H&C.
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:25 PM
I’ll stick with Pew Research as a legitimate source, and you can cite Howard Stern. I am comfortable with that.
benny shakar on January 6, 2009 at 5:26 PM
And the pew research poll that amerpundit just linked to shows that both Rush listeners and viewers of H&C did better than watchers of the Colbert Report.
jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 5:28 PM
So it’s not just Fox News. It’s Hannity and Colmes and Bill O’Reily, then Fox News.
Well, taking out the most viewed programs is likely to have an effect on the stats. What’s left at that point? Isn’t it mostly morning news shows and news magazines that are left?
And according to the list, all of those scored the lowest.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:28 PM
We can also cite Zogby.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:30 PM
Benny, why do you insist on bothering the intelligent people here at HA?? My god there are enough lefty-looney blogs out there for you to discourse with people of your own inferior mentality. You really are a very boring person, I’ll bet you have nothing else to do. I think I hear Barry calling you, it is your turn to be peobs’ ass kisser. Ta….
clinker46 on January 6, 2009 at 5:32 PM
And what’s most telling is the first question, “what party controls the house.” Seriously, you get a 50/50 shot at that one. Pelosi made headlines.
You could be completely high and should still have a problem getting that one wrong.
It’s telling that the show pretending to be conservative got a higher percentage on all the questions.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:35 PM
I am surprised how consistently I agree with the moral point behind each episode of that show.
Ampersand on January 6, 2009 at 5:46 PM
….still strangely compelling as a rare example of a beta male being willing to satirize his own beta-ness.
Kasper Hauser on January 6, 2009 at 5:49 PM
Fucking tags reverse on me!
Kasper Hauser on January 6, 2009 at 5:49 PM
I’m currently addicted to that show. Never miss it. and they have the cutest women…
Ampersand on January 6, 2009 at 5:50 PM
I used to be (surprised, that is), but now I look forward to each episode and constantly quote from the show.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:53 PM
And their still dumber than a box of rocks.
thomasaur on January 6, 2009 at 6:02 PM

thomasaur on January 6, 2009 at 6:03 PM
That is funny.
Mr. Joe on January 6, 2009 at 6:22 PM
Colmes is the Worst.Actor.Evah.
nickj116 on January 6, 2009 at 6:56 PM
Although I agree, I’d have to say at least there might be an occasional chuckle in these shows, compared to the utter pathetic-ness of the MSM who has absolutely no sense of humor. Yep I think that the Comedy Central fake news shows are better than MSM but not by much…
maineconservative on January 6, 2009 at 7:56 PM
Hi Guys,
This is my first post since Nov. 3, 2008. “The Day the American Voter Went Insane”.
I’ve been “lurking” about, waiting for something constructive to say. This numb nuts,
is one reason I won’t post at any site anymore. It’s too depressing and they solve nothing. I’m just waiting for them to pass away into history.
Please allow me folks.
Benji and all libtard trolls, on all conservative blogs please &%*#$!
Thank you.
Not Over.
1GooDDaDDy on January 6, 2009 at 8:10 PM
Hmm, I never noticed. Cobert can actually be funny…sometimes.
Spiritk9 on January 6, 2009 at 8:29 PM
Baaah. Don’t let’m get to you. It’s what they want to do; don’t give’m the satisfaction of succeeding. All voices of reason are needed, now more than ever.
All bunny shaker has done here is troll for comebacks with smart-ass comments, and put down the blogs and bloggers. Him and his cohorts are not worth giving up something that you enjoy the rest of the time; simply ignore them if reading their effluvia bothers you too much.
hillbillyjim on January 6, 2009 at 8:36 PM
Just ignore Benny and his ilk. It’s not sporting to engage in a battle of wits against an unarmed opponent.
ZK on January 6, 2009 at 9:17 PM
Skeletor!
mindhacker on January 6, 2009 at 9:53 PM
I thought Colmes’ watermelon taunt was pretty funny.

Skeletor! Good one. I think he also looks like that alien in the end credits of the original Star Trek series.

Colbert cracks me up… if I’m ever up that late. He’s way better than Jon Stewart’s noise machine and I love seeing him give libs a hard time on his show. That crap is funny.
And Southpark is hilarious because they make fun of everyone. The only episodes I can’t watch are when they make fun of Jesus – anything else I can watch and laugh a guilty laugh while my kid is in bed.
Doppleganker on January 7, 2009 at 9:00 AM
You gotta give it to Colmes for that watermelon line.
The taint bit was relatively funny too, only because I’ve noticed the overuse of the word lately myself, as it pertains to Blago appointment.
RightWinged on January 7, 2009 at 9:05 AM
South Park has as much to do with Comedy Central as Howard Stern does with the FCC. Comedy Central has refused to air and re-air episodes from time to time purely out of political correctness. South Park is a step above.
MadisonConservative on January 6, 2009 at 5:10 PM
Worst comparison, ever. Matt and Trey are PAID obscene amounts of money by Comedy Central for the South Park show. The FCC regulates dirty words on broadcast television and levies obscene fines.
The only episode that I can recall being possibly not re-aired was ‘Trapped in the Closet’. The decision was not made by Comedy Central, but by the board because Tom Cruise was doing a promo run for MI III and is insane. They changed their mind after Tom was let go and it has aired since. It’s also available on DVD.
Krydor on January 7, 2009 at 9:24 AM
Um, I’m not involved in whatever debate ya’ll 2 are having, but I have to correct you Krydor. Do you not remember the whole “2 part Mohammad” episode? That was an issue much larger than the show, too.
RightWinged on January 7, 2009 at 9:40 AM

RightWinged on January 7, 2009 at 9:40 AM
Sure do, and I’m still not sure if it was planned the way it went down or if Trey and Matt were strong armed. The reason I wonder is because of the Super Best Friends episode, which depicted all the leaders of every major religion (Plus Seaman) fighting David Blaine. Mohammed was depicted in that one, and I think it still airs. Does in Canada.
Krydor on January 7, 2009 at 9:50 AM
Interesting point, Krydor.
RightWinged on January 7, 2009 at 10:04 AM
Even assuming that’s true (which I doubt), I think that’s more of a condemnation of the alphabet networks than it is a boost for a comedic news program.
When Jon Stewart with an hour beats an entire network dedicated to Democrat propaganda, you know said network suck.
BKennedy on January 7, 2009 at 10:15 AM
The only good part was the cartoon.
