Reid to Coleman: It’s time to go

Coleman’s reply? A formal announcement this afternoon that he’s filing suit to contest the election. Follow the link for Politico video from the presser.

Normally I look dimly at court battles in these circumstances, but given the stench of shenanigans plus the fact that we really are staring down the barrel of an Al Franken Decade, he might as well claw on to the bitter end.

Hey Reid, time to gird your loins!

Caligula at least sent his whole horse to the Senate, Minnesota just sent the back half.

MN’s business is no buisness Scary Harry. What a clown. Thinking of living in the state that sent Al Franken to DC makes me very ill. MN, not IL, deserves to be the laughing stock of the nation if this happens.

Senator Al or Gov. Balgo – who is the bigger aSSet?

Sweetness0726 on January 6, 2009 at 6:24 PM

I love the consistency of Dingy Harry. We must have a Senator from Minnesota ASAFP! But, uh, we can wait a few months for a Senator from Illinois.

BuzzCrutcher on January 6, 2009 at 6:32 PM

It’s always the same.

The Democrat is behind?

“Keep counting votes! We must count every vote. We dare not let one voter be disenfranchised!”

The Democrat is ahead?

“Stop this! We need an ending. You can’t drag this out forever. Stop being such a sore loser.”

It’s not even the fact that the attitude differs depending on the situation that galls me as much as the fact that they immediately change on the same election contest!

Sackett on January 6, 2009 at 6:32 PM

Franken was all set to sue when he was marked as the loser. Why shouldn’t Coleman be accorded the same rights?

It really is looking like the election was stolen from Coleman — it’s one thing to count every vote, but another thing completely to manufacture votes that don’t exist, or to count votes twice, as appears to have happened here.

May the truth prevail, whatever it is.

unclesmrgol on January 6, 2009 at 6:33 PM

Is this Pinky Reid’s version of “He’ll Have to Go”? Ah sing it, Pinky: “Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone…”

Old Dingy Harry surely sounds like/looks like an impressive leader in that clip…NOT.

Push your lawsuit, Senator Coleman. Something’s a little fishy in those Minnesota lakes that Reid missed as he “followed the events closely day by day”. LOL

That being said, Coleman has brought this on himself.

The reasons Democrats win recounts

I think Democrats win these things for three direct reasons and one subtle one. The direct ones are:

1 – today’s democratic party leadership isn’t really democratic. They’re not soft left liberals with strong beliefs in human rights – that was the Bush coalition. These guys are professional politicians focused on winning uber alles. Democracy, as someone important said, depends on an endless string of good losers – and Democrats are viciously bad losers.

2 – they have more money as well as more commitment; and,

3 – every recount process I’ve ever seen as over ruled state law on clean ballots. In MN, as elsewhere, electoral law requires that an improperly marked ballot be discarded – but this recount, like those elsewhere, quickly became a contest on how far this could be stretched with the result that Democratic candidates usually pick up votes simply because their voters are the most likely to have trouble reading or completing a ballot.

Most of the ballots Franken gained should, by law, be discarded as marred but instead they’re counted in the recounted.

What’s going on here is that the judiciary leans toward making exceptions for the illiterate. Sit in a junior court sometime and watch: the white middle class guy up on a traffic offence gets convicted before trial, the illiterate drug user up on numerous uncontested charges arising from an assault and robbery – gets the minimum concurrent sentencing on each charge, and that’s if he’s sentenced at all.

The more subtle reason they always win these things, however, is intimidation. Electoral officials facing an angry Republican don’t expect to be hauled into court, don’t expect to have their lives aired in public, and don’t expect to bankrupt themselves defending against unsupported, but properly written, charges. Electoral officials facing decisions against Democrats do fear, and have reason to fear, these things – and that reality biases the entire electoral process, including recounts.

kirkill on January 6, 2009 at 6:53 PM

It’s not like Coleman is being a poor loser. He had valid challenges that could not be heard until now under the law. He tried making sure it was done fair and accurate weeks ago but the canvasing board and MN SC told him to wait until the challeneg phase, the 3rd part of the 3 part process.

But it is funny that a guy who no one can question the legality of being a US Senator is being blocked by Reid.

Oh, the choices…

We can sick back and let the Democrats destroy our free election system like we did in Washington state.

We can demand justice while free speech is still available to us.

More votes were counted in several precincts than registered voters. In every case, this favored Franken. More absentee ballots were counted in several precincts than accounted for. In every case, this favored Franken. Disqualified ballots were tossed in several precincts, due to really shady circumstances. In every case, this favored Franken. The play book here in Minnesota is text book Democrat operation instructions on how to steal an election away from the people.

WTF are we going to do about this?

perroviejo on January 6, 2009 at 7:56 PM

Blagojevich: “If I don’t make this appointment, then the people of Illinois will be deprived of their appropriate voice and vote in the United States Senate.”

Schumer: “With the Senate set to begin meeting on Tuesday to address the important issues facing the nation, it is crucial that Minnesota’s seat not remain empty, and I hope this process will resolve itself as soon as possible.”

Why is the Democratic leadership willing to deprive Illinois (no longer calling for a special election) but feeling that Minnesota must have it’s voice? They’ve allowed Blagojevich to set an election for Emanuel’s seat, so it wouldn’t have been beyond the capacity to set one for the same dates. By no longer supporting a special election they have effectively silenced a seat from Illinois.

Why are there more former members of the Klan amongst the Senate Democrats then African-Americans and what will the Democrats do about it?

amazingmets on January 6, 2009 at 7:57 PM

I don’t see problem with it. Let them go ahead and have Frankenstein! I’m putting a call in to Rick Perry to have Texas declare war on Minnesota immediately.

BadMojo on January 6, 2009 at 7:57 PM

Coleman needs to talk up the districts that had more senate votes than registered voters, the “newly found” votes that went 100% for Franken, etc.

all the obvious fraud stuff.

jp on January 6, 2009 at 7:58 PM

So essentially, Reid is telling Coleman, “We stole the election fair and square dammit! Now, just surrender like a good little Republican and stop making us have to do more work here!”

AZfederalist on January 6, 2009 at 8:00 PM

You realize to the far-left this would be the equivalent of Ann Coulter getting elected Senator.

hmmm, there is an open seat in Florida and Jeb isn’t running? Coulter lives in Florida…of course so does Rush?

Coulter or Rush, Florida Senate 2010!!!

note: I hate the comparison to Franken, since Coulter isn’t a lying scumbag like franken. but that comparison is what the media would make

The Left is playing a very dangerous game with this theft and the one in Washington state in 2004. They benefit more then conservatives do, for a number of reasons, with the current structure of our elections.

If “we the people” completely lose faith in the honesty of the election process, real change, which the Left most definitely does not want, may well be the result.

I realize the Democrats have been stealing elections since before I was born – hello there President Kennedy – but they’ve gotten sloppy and greedy in the last decade…

If Reid’s past track record is predictive of this saga, his calling Norm “former Sen. Coleman” is good news for Norm. Just ask David Petraeus.

LFRGary on January 6, 2009 at 11:25 PM

1. It seems an inappropriate venue for Reid to do this.

2. He’s insane with his claim that he knows of no claim of any partisan issues here. Can we start with DEMOCRAT Ritchie’s odd partisan-like comments from the start of this recount business?

3. He claims the count has been detailed and done carefully with no issues. Yes, like ballots showing up in the trunks of cars, wild swings from one side to the other, counties that admit that a lot of Franken votes were probably counted twice, the WSJ pointed out so many problems with this election.

4. Can we, I dunno, follow the MN state law and shut up before we decide a winner?

5. With all the problems reported in this election, with some very fishy business going on and a Democrat at the helm of the overall recount, isn’t it a bit odd to talk about how the people of MN have spoken thus Coleman should concede?

Does Reid really lack any and all shame?

TheBlueSite on January 7, 2009 at 12:01 AM

You might be right. However, even if he loses, Coleman can get some of this fraud documented.

Even if he loses, if Coleman can put Minnesota law & contrary practices in this election side by side, it could be harder to pull this kind of stuff off in the future.

I hope.

Reid is a liar and a crook, he’s grown used to abusing his power without consequence. The same goes for a lot of the Dem officials in this process.

Many of the details have already been pointed out here. The process was transparently rigged.

If no Democrat does jail time over this, there’s no “if” about it, there will be no trust in the election/fraud system, because it will be irretrievably corrupt. It will be at most 8 years before we will no longer be able to claim that our transitions of power are bloodless.

Take away our votes, you take away our reason for supporting the system. People start by ignoring the system, then fighting it.

The Democrats have found a new and interesting way to destroy the country, since all their others failed.

Sickening doesn’t even begin to describe it.
