“There’s a left-wing tradition of being systematically opposed to the U.S. government, knee-jerk reactionary – most of our presidents have made it fairly easy to do,” said Jo Freeman, author of “At Berkeley in the Sixties,” a memoir of her student activism. “Those who view everything the U.S. does as automatically suspect already have a problem doing that with Obama.”…
A similar, if earnest, display on election night “did strike me as funny and ironic,” said Mark Rudd, who organized campus protests in the 1960s as a national leader of Students for a Democratic Society and who has been critical of President George W. Bush.
“For the last eight years – and probably for much longer – most radicals have been mourning for our country,” he said. “Obviously the empire is not going to fall overnight, but at least there’s been a popular vote that changes the direction of the last 40 years.”

CAIRO, Egypt – Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader lashed out at President-elect Barack Obama in a new audio message Tuesday, accusing him of not doing anything to stop Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to an intelligence monitoring center.

The quotes within that article (written from Berkeley, BTW) are sickening.
What is this empire business? It sounds as if the direction he wants changed is the demise of America.
Notice the 40 years. That goes back to 1968, when there were riots in Chicago at the Dem convention. The radical Left finally thinks they now have what they wanted then. That tells you what they think about O.
Good comments on this in the Headlines earlier today.

If one looks at history, there are a great many examples where those that worked so hard to change the regime end up being purged by their own. I think that there will be a great deal of cannibalism in the near future.

Most Obama supporters don’t even understand REAL history enough to realize what a stupid statement that is.
Also, this vague change business is getting so old so fast. I’m going to start thinking of Obama as that annoying dj at the roller rink who would always called for “all skate, change directions” in the middle of every song.

Unlike the rest of us, who everyday for the last eight years – and for probable much longer – work and achieve and try to make the world a better place. I’ve said before in these posts that one of the great sadness in my life is: I will never outlive all the 60s hippies and radicals. There will alway some of them out there still pretending that they were relevant and cared more than the rest of us.

They were sickening then, and are even more sickening now.
At least Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin (who turned amazingly conservative at the end) exited early and dramatically.

Like it or not, Obama will be my President. I’m certain to vehemently disagree with his policies and actions but I’m not going to go sulk and refuse to use the word “President” in reference to him…ya know, like the left for the last eight years. Pathetic.
It’s also telling that “everything the U.S. does as automatically suspect” only applies when ‘the other guy is in office’. Once ‘your guy’ is in, well, then they “have a problem doing that”. That says a whole lot about their principles.

As a Republican,when I think of patriotism,I think of:
George Washington, Lincoln,Gen.Macarthur,Gen.Patton,Gen.Petraeus,John Wayne,Martin Luther King Jr.,American Soldier,Reagan,Bush standing on the ruins of the twin towers declaring we will fight back,Star Spangled Banner,The Alamo,La Drang Valley, fight for Fallujah,Normandy,Iwo Jima,The American Flag,Rosie the riveter,ribs-steak-lemonade on a summer afternoon hanging out on the porch with family and friends.
Liberals think about:
Burning the American flag,Jane Fonda,Bill Ayers and his terrorist accomplice wife Dohrn,Hugo Chavez, hollywood,Fidel Castro,Rosie O’donell,Sean Penn,Hamas,Hezbollah,Cindy Sheehan,Jimmy Carter,Assassinating President Bush/Cheney,Anti-war protest,Surrender,Marxism,Lenin,Taxes,Getting us in Vietnam then politicizing to the extent that we left-condemning millions to their death,The UN, John Kerry lying and stabbing the American Soldier in the back lying in front of Congress,Selling out the country and stabbing the American Soldier in the back over the war in Iraq that they voted for in pursing political gain.
That is not mourning coming from the liberal radicals,it is
Hypocrisy,bigotry,and hate.

Baxter Greene on January 7, 2009 at 1:11 AM
TO have some idea of how the Left will behave towards Obama, one need only to look at how they behaved last time they had a liberal democrat in office. Take Jimmy Carter for example. Western leftists, by nature, can not feel patriotism, for their great boogeyman is nationalism. They must always be opposed to leadership and be opposed to whatever the US is doing at any given time. That means being opposed to the guy at the top in some fashion.

SuperCool on January 7, 2009 at 1:56 AM
I have been looking at the Carter administration lately because I think Obama’s will mirror it in many ways.
This liberal policy is so wrong in so many ways:
This past National Security Advisor for Carter is considered
a true intellectual by the left.
People with any common sense see him as a dangerous failure:
Profile: Zbigniew Brzezinski
http://www.historycommons.org/entity.jsp?entity=zbigniew_brzezinski
BRZEZINSKI BOASTS OF STARTING THE AFGHAN WAR
http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaAdvisers.htm
Brzezinski/Carter are considered great foreign policy giants by the left and many of these same people sit in the Obama
administration.
Watching Obama appoint Panetta to head the CIA is the same ignorant decision making that can be traced back to liberals for decades.
I was worried about a Sept.10 mentality.
Looks more like a 1979 mentality we are getting with the
“hope and change” crew.

Lol if 60’s socialist radicals like Rudd really believe that Obama is actually going to change anything apart from the amount of cash in his bank account, then they are dumber than they look and and sound. The sooner that generation retires and moves into obscurity the better off we will all be.
Dreadnought223 on January 7, 2009 at 2:53 AM
Sorry, but I don’t recall conservatives being so patriotic under Pres. Clinton. In fact during the first term I recall many repubs and conservatives calling it the failed Presidency of Pres Clinton, calling him illegitimate cause he didn’t get at least fifty percent of the vote (Ross Perot took a significant chunk of the popular vote in coming third). So the conservatives and republicans played the dissent while not the highest form of patriotism, did display significant partisanship. While that helped the country, in revamping welfare and crime policies and led to better tax policies and the retaking of the Congress in 1994, can one be patriotic while being vitriolic to the President?
eaglewingz08 on January 7, 2009 at 6:47 AM
Sorry, eaglewingz, you’re confused about the term “patriotic.” It’s not the same as “fond of the current administration.” Conservatives didn’t support Clinton, but they certainly didn’t quit flying American flags, or start taking sides with other countries against their own. They never lost faith in America or in the Constitution.
Leftists constantly take pretty much anyone’s side against America (Venezuela, Hamas, the EU). Their attachment to the Constitution is fickle, at best, and their loyalty to their country is more or less contingent on whether or not their guy is running it.
To make matters worse, judging from your post, leftists don’t even understand that America is more than a cult of personality contingent on the presidency.
morganfrost on January 7, 2009 at 6:59 AM
Unfortunately that generation is going to be in the drivers seat for the next twenty or so years. What we really need is the rise of a new radicalism, based in values like freedom and liberty, small central government with the bulk of control ceded to local elected officials.
Hmm, sound familiar? Remember those radicals from about 230 years ago?

The destructive winds of change will hit everyone alike, neo-liberal to conservative. There is no sense to compromise architectural standards to facilitate tornadic devastation, as revising liberty to assuage Marxists won’t alleviate but will intensify the pain they inflict. So hold to your principles, and be true to yourself as placating the revisionist enemy only erases your existence.
maverick muse on January 7, 2009 at 8:16 AM
Given the amount of ‘conservatives’ doing the exact same “mourning for our country” now that O is president, I’m not convinced such a blanket statement is really working at the moment..
Reaps on January 7, 2009 at 8:17 AM
Mourning for it isn’t the same as attacking it and reflexively taking sides with those opposed to it. The act of mourning indicates some love or at least value attached to that which is mourned for.

Conservatives love America and the traditional values that it represents. They criticize the leadership when it makes decisions that are viewed as damaging to them, their family, and/or their country. They cherish the freedom that America gives them.
While Liberals claim they love America, they believe America is flawed. They believe there are other nations that do things better than we do. They believe that Americans have a birthright of entitlement. This entitlement includes things not listed as rights by the Founding Fathers, such as abortion and gay marriage.
They believe in a omnipotent government that will take care of them from cradle to grave.
Conservatives are mourning the possible loss of traditional values and freedoms in the days ahead.

Mourning for the country is much different than the direct verbal attacks on the country that liberals like to use.
Besides, just the mention of the creation of a “Civilian Security Force” during a period of financial instability and mounting worldwide tension, increased hatred towards Christianity and Judiasm is an extremely threatening possibility.
I can think of another society that went through that same cycle. Are you not in fear that Barack Obama is making the same promises and actions that Hitler made, especially when the democratic party will singlehandedly control all 3 branches of government (there are many traitors in the Republican party that will side with liberals on lawmaking for the right amount of money)?
Just short of 70 years have passed since the start of WWII with the invasion of Poland, and you and you liberal buddies still haven’t learned a damn thing.
