Alaska Senate poll: Murkowski 57, Palin 33

Almost a mirror image of the dKos poll last month. Is the bloom off the rose?
Pollster Dave Dittman just finished a statewide survey on a possible Palin-versus-Murkowski matchup – and Murkowski beats Palin, at least in this poll, hands down…
“And I think there would be a feeling, too, of overreaching — going too far, too aggressive, too much too soon — if Sarah decided to run for Senate,” Dittman said. “When you’ve already got someone there with seniority, who most people think is doing a good job, I think it would be a huge mistake.”…
A poll commissioned last month by the Web site dailykos.com showed Palin beating Murkowski 55 to 31 percent, although local pollster Dittman says he has concerns about the methods used to arrive at those numbers.
One or the other poll’s dramatically skewed, as nothing’s happened in the last three weeks to warrant a 25-point swing. Except, er, the allegations — since rescinded — that Alaska cops suspended their drug investigation into Levi Johnston’s mother until after the election. Or the new questions over how Johnston landed a job for which he might be ineligible under federal law. Or Bristol Palin giving birth, prompting another round of wrangling between the ‘Cuda and the media. I think that covers everything.
Exit question: If she doesn’t challenge Murkowski in 2010 or The One in 2012, how’s she going to stay on the national media’s radar until 2016? Fox News will have to set aside a special weekly kaffeeklatsch segment for her or something. Don’t let us down, Greta!

Please, continue this line of argumentation. It informs others of what you’re willing to do for cheap political points.

So let me get this straight … Palin is no threat to the Obama drones … yet they arrive her in flocks in order to bash her
strange behavior from Axelrod’s minions
joey24007 on January 6, 2009 at 5:56 PM
Old names coming back, names I have never seen before. All for Gov. Palin, who is not running for anything but doing her job. Do you hope to change anyone’s mind? I can’t even imagine who will be running in 2012 and just hoping to be pleasantly surprised in the upcoming administration, why the hate and the insults?

I’m not sure why you’re having such trouble understanding that:
1) the ASRC electrical apprenticeship program requires a high school diploma
2)bristol palin’s babydaddy does not have a high school diploma
3)therefore he was not qualified for the job
Are you using a poorly-ventilated space heater by any chance?

Eh. It’s a hit and run troll.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 5:57 PM
I think Palin is gritty, clever and resourceful. All good things. But, in my humble opinion, we should require more from candidates. From what I’ve seen, read and heard from her over the past several months, there’s something lacking.
johnnynucleo on January 6, 2009 at 5:58 PM

Benny.. eat moose nuggets a choke. You even put down the WHOLE QUOTE.. Fedeal regulations do not hinder someone from not getting a job. Idiot.. look at what you posted!
upinak on January 6, 2009 at 6:02 PM
If you really believe she is “gritty, clever and resourceful” then you’d also believe she can get that certain something she’s currently missing.
You can teach the rest. You can’t teach what she already has.
This is why I’m hoping she doesn’t run in 2012, but it’s illogical to write her off, especially when you consider the impact she had this election.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 6:02 PM
I am with you on waiting to see what Gov Palin has to offer later and that now that she has an idea what is waiting for her I expect her to be much better prepared. That said, what is with these people? I find myself going into Mom-mode.

kingsjester on January 6, 2009 at 6:07 PM
Aww. I feel similar. I don’t get all the attacks of her here by those who claim they want what’s best for the party.
I get the thinking she needs some time. I mean cramming is alright (though not ideal) if you’re the VP, but when she runs for president she needs to be at the top of her game.
But to completely dismiss her? That just proves that the media was very successful this election. Had they given Obama the Palin treatment, I’m sure opinions would be reversed. It isn’t as though they didn’t have plenty of material to work with.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 6:07 PM
You can pick on the Palin/Johnson familys all you want. However we had Jimmah the c’s brother taking a leak on the tarmac at BNA.There is of course the famous swimmer in the Senate, hopefully he will start giving rides at night to family members. Then we have Chelsey with a big bucks job doin’ sumpthin’ as payback to Slick and the witch. You wanna talk bout screwed up families at least be bi partisan bout it.

I love how everyone is a “troll” if you don’t believe Palin is the second coming. Sorry, I thought conservatives were serious people, thinkers, well informed on policy.
Quit comparing Palin to Reagan. It’s borderline sacreligious. :-)
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 6:21 PM
I love how all the “true Republicans/conservatives” all know that Palin’s really just a bimbo.
I thought as you did, that conservatives were serious people who actually took the time to examine an issue or person before blindly accepting what the MSM has to say, but I’m frequently wrong on that one.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 6:25 PM
Actually if you look back, most of us “Palinites” haven’t. Reagan was his own man… and rightly so.
Have a great day.

Upinak – keep up the good fight. Nolus illigitimus carborundum. I respect you and your judgement of Alaskan sources. And anyone who gets a rebuff from AP can’t be all bad.
I have never seen such patronization of a poster outside of COS. The backhanded compliments before the patronizing knife. I can hardly believe these self-identified conservatives hate Palin so much. Maybe someone can suggest to me the source of such unthinking hatres.
Old Country Boy on January 6, 2009 at 6:27 PM
Come on. Take off the blinders. She’s a nice lady. But you’re telling me she’s the best we can do? Her whole campaign deal was repeating buzz words, not actual discussion of policy.
Ronald Reagan was well versed on policy. He knew the issues. George H.W. Bush is a very smart man, who was an expert on foreign affairs. Even George W. Bush was a lot more informed than Palin.
She’s just not meant for the big leagues. Being nice and being able to give a speech are not qualifications for tackling the serious issues that one faces when being president.
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 6:27 PM
Probably. I’ve also been seeing some names I don’t remember at all along with some of the usual suspects.

Not everyone who doesn’t think Palin is the “second coming” is a troll. Constructive criticism is healthy. Putting so much faith in a person is ridiculous and should be left to the Obamaphiles who worship idols & hypocrites.
However, attacking Sarah Palin SO viciously along with her family, friends, and possibly pets is a certain sign of mental illness…which leads me to believe they are a Liberal Troll.

I can respect that. You have stated it. That is what primarys are for, and the republican party will come together and select their nominee. As a CONSERVATIVE I think Palin destroys most of the competition. As a Republican…she’s above average.
Nobody can compare to Reagan. I am also tired of people comparing ANYONE to Reagan. However I do give some credence to Ronald Reagan’s Son Michael, who wrote this piece about Palin:

this is for the dude who doesn’t like to compare Palin to Reagan … The dude is such and expert on both, considering that he stated that no president in the last 30 years has written their own speeches, that he only knows of Palin because of what he has seen and heard “in the last 3 months”
and even to those who have said that Palin is not “up to speed” on foreign policy.
Now … we are either 4 or 8 or 12 years away from a potential Palin run …
Here is what William F. Buckley had to say to Ronald Reagan in letter from between 72-76, which is 4 years before his first run at the presidency:
joey24007 on January 6, 2009 at 6:42 PM

joey24007 on January 6, 2009 at 6:43 PM
Being elite is not a bad thing.
Being elite does not mean you cannot govern with common sense.
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 6:44 PM
I certainly didn’t mean that he can’t go get a GED. Seems like a good idea to me. When I said it seemed to already be over I meant the political aspect of it. He’s already quit and seems to have decided to continue his work to get a regular high school diploma. Maybe he’ll change his mind later and go for the GED. I think, as I said in an earlier post, that rules absolutely should be followed in hiring practices. It seems like in this case that his dad was trying to help him, and they didn’t dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s like they should have. Families try to help each other all the time. In this case it became an issue because a man who hates Palin decided to make one of it in order to attack her. I think it’s a shame that he’s had to leave this job, and I would feel that way about any young man trying to provide for his family. But I think that leaving it was the right thing to do, and that he should get his degree and go back to work. And make sure that next time he goes by the book.
As an aside: Boy, do the ‘Cuda threads get heated or what?
meltenn on January 6, 2009 at 6:45 PM
Yeah, the Mormon people won’t vote for?

Sure, but it doesn’t automatically mean you have common sense either. Most examples would seem to prove the opposite.
Esthier on January 6, 2009 at 6:46 PM
There is also a segment of the people here who have used the art of reinventing history to serve their purposes … they look at Reagan as the person who BECAME president … which is not the comparison I am making … I am comparing Reagan the CANDIDATE to Palin the CANDIDATE
both are considered to appeal only to the “right wing” of the party
both are considered to be novices on foreign policy
both are considered not to be “intellectuals” … Reagan was a C student at a small college
both are considered to “only give a good speech”

Elite is often referred to as the cream (or creme to the educated snobs). As any agricultural engineer of dirt farmer can tell you (and probably Mrs. Palin, too), cream floats to the top along with the hair, dead flies and shit. It floats to the top because it is lighter (less substance) that I’m sure upinak can tell you. That is what we need is the lightweight hair, dead flies and shit floating to the top to run this country. Based upon the preamble to The Constitution, the best educated person to become POYUS would be a West Point Graduate.

Ronald Reagan was a two term governor of the largest state in the country. He was a dovoted, true believing conservative who’s rise was slow and steady. He had time to build his resume, and was clearly aware of the damage big government liberalism has, and could do to our country.
Once again, let’s stop comparing people to Reagan. There will never be another Ronald Reagan. Ever.
therightwinger on January 6, 2009 at 7:01 PM
First, I think the majority of American voters just proved you dead wrong on that one.
Second, let’s just calm down about how Gov. Palin was not prepared to President in 2008, (an office she was not seeking).
I think she did just fine on her maiden voyage, and better than 95% of politicians in her position would have done considering the abject abuse she and her family endured.
It’s going to be a long hard road to 2012 let alone 2016,
why don’t we just sit back and see what happens. Our time would be much better spent on local elections and 2010 races than worrying about whether Sarah’s daughter’s boyfriend has a GED or not.

Palin made a number of comments that were contrary to the official McCain campaign line, and each one of them made her sound like more of an idiot, not less. Sorry, she does not currently have what it takes to become President. The idea that McCain kept her from showing how awesome she is is a complete myth.

Prove it. Show me something that says she wasn’t put aside or silenced? Other then reading the same speach over and over again in large groups.
