Alaska Senate poll: Murkowski 57, Palin 33
posted at 1:15 pm on January 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
Almost a mirror image of the dKos poll last month. Is the bloom off the rose?
Pollster Dave Dittman just finished a statewide survey on a possible Palin-versus-Murkowski matchup – and Murkowski beats Palin, at least in this poll, hands down…
“And I think there would be a feeling, too, of overreaching — going too far, too aggressive, too much too soon — if Sarah decided to run for Senate,” Dittman said. “When you’ve already got someone there with seniority, who most people think is doing a good job, I think it would be a huge mistake.”…
A poll commissioned last month by the Web site dailykos.com showed Palin beating Murkowski 55 to 31 percent, although local pollster Dittman says he has concerns about the methods used to arrive at those numbers.
One or the other poll’s dramatically skewed, as nothing’s happened in the last three weeks to warrant a 25-point swing. Except, er, the allegations — since rescinded — that Alaska cops suspended their drug investigation into Levi Johnston’s mother until after the election. Or the new questions over how Johnston landed a job for which he might be ineligible under federal law. Or Bristol Palin giving birth, prompting another round of wrangling between the ‘Cuda and the media. I think that covers everything.
Exit question: If she doesn’t challenge Murkowski in 2010 or The One in 2012, how’s she going to stay on the national media’s radar until 2016? Fox News will have to set aside a special weekly kaffeeklatsch segment for her or something. Don’t let us down, Greta!

Simple, because she strike FEAR into far left Liberal hearts, WAIT!, they have no hearts… So, she strikes FEAR into the Liber-Tards hate America plans… Cuda IS Conservatisiam. Rush IS Conservatisam. Mark Garnett IS Conservatisiam. No story here… move along.

Allah… time to get your facts straight!
Dave Dittman, who is the “pollster” is also part of the Dan Fagan movement. That Fat Liberal SLOB, Mr Fagan started to give Levi Johnston crap about his job.. in which Levi quit.
Dan Fagan, ALSO runs this poll on a website he helps host.
Alaska Standard.. a supposedly conservative/progressive site. Which has the original “poll” and numbers.
If you notice.. Dan Fagan is the one who also help write this.
Don’t use KTUU or ADN as they are BOTH liberal media. Thansk!

Why would she fade from obscurity if she remains Governor? And as far as challenging the Messiah in 2012, if his New Deal Part II doesn’t pan out(and why would it if it’s similar to FDR’s sorry plan?), a chimpanzee may be able to beat him in 4 years.
Doughboy on January 6, 2009 at 1:24 PM
Regardless of which poll is right, I don’t think she should run for Senate. Either run for re-election as governor or start a presidential campaign. She’s more of an executive type than a legislator anyway.

But with so many conservatives already crowning her for 2012, it really is “too much, too soon”. Remember, the Democrats…we thought…were to coronate their own Queen early on.

P.S. Dittman has apparently done work for Stevens and others in the Alaska Republican establishment who universally hate Sarah. This might be an attempt to dissuade Palin from running for the Senate, so the R. establishment can continue to be corrupt and eat up more yummy gobs of pork.
Illinidiva on January 6, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Sarah Palin was the only reason I voted for McCain this year, rather than a third-party candidate. That said, I think her running for the Senate would be a bad, REALLY BAD idea. Among her assets, are that she has genuine executive experience as a Governor, and she is definitely a “Beltway outsider.” A place in the Senate would cut one of those assets short, and cancel the other one.
If she has any higher aspirations at all, she should stay put until 2012.
manwithblackhat on January 6, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Personally I hope she runs for a second term as Governor of Alaska, See what things look like in 2012, Runs for President if things look good or waits and runs for the Senate once her term as Governor ends. Fortunately she has plenty of time on her side to put some meat on her resume before heading to Washington and allow the left wing media to find another right wing whipping boy to demonise.

I’m sure if the poll results were positive, it would have meant Alaskans wanted to ship Palin off to DC. Instead, it seems they’re happy with her as their Governor. Wake me up when it’s 2010.
chunderroad on January 6, 2009 at 1:30 PM
AP,
How does an opinion poll about Sarah taking a job that many of us don’t think she needs to take in order to run for POTUS constitute the blossom falling off the rose. I think she would shine best to continue as the Governor of Alaska.
Murkowski can retain or loose her seat to someone else.

jimmy the notable on January 6, 2009 at 1:36 PM
So unless someone with conservative credentials writes it, it’s automatically false and without merit? Nice logic circle you’ve constructed there.
As for Palin. Palin is why the GOP as a party, is screwed. But not because she will bring the party down, but precisely because the people who love her REALLY love her and will probably follow her anywhere. That split extends to the top of the Republican party. The 2012 Republican primary is going to be ugly and its going to do even more damage to the Reagan coalition than this one did. If the Republicans are smart they will have CLOSED primaries. Palin will win and they’ll have their best shot, hopefully pulling in women voters of all backgrounds. If Palin doesn’t win alot of her supporters will go home and not come back for November.

As long as she is Governor I think she will get some media attention. I noticed that some news magazines (like Parade) had Palin and not Obama on the cover in their year end editions and it’s been months since the election has been over. So I don’t think she will have trouble getting the nation media’s attention. Although, I do wish she was do more interviews right now. I actually think she should have agreed to go on Oprah. Sigh.

I can’t imagine why she would want to run for the Senate–governors win the presidency far more often than senators do. This past election, in which two senators ran against each other, was rare indeed.
DrMagnolias on January 6, 2009 at 1:45 PM
I am truly grateful for Palin’s courage under fire during the campaign. She never cowarded to the intense pressure or complained about unfair treatment. And her family also endured an awful lot of grief that many other political families would have been spared (e.g. Obama’s family). But if she is the nominee in 2012, Obama will win reelection in a landslide.
RedSoxNation on January 6, 2009 at 1:46 PM
When Palin was nominated to VP candidate a friend suggested that I check out some videos of her debates when she ran for AK governor. It was really interesting seeing how different her entire demeanor was when she was running for the AK position. She was much more measured and bipartisan. I think that was part of her appeal to AK residents… common sense above party politics and ideology. The numbers in the poll are probably wonky but I would imagine many AK independents and democrats are irked over her election diatribes and the divisive role she played (and not entirely her fault either… that’s often what VP candidates end up doing). Her AK numbers were down sharply immediately after the election. I’m sure she can find her feet again in AK and win, however.

I reject the premise of this so called poll. Why would Sarah want to sully her credentials as a political executive by running for the Senate? This election notwithstanding (and I am sure that once this Senator has had his single term in the White House the rule will be reinforced) Presidents do not come from the Senate. Moreover, after this bunch of clowns gets done with us we will be looking far and wide for replacements, for instance, we might want to elect Raul Castro, Kim Jong Ill, or even Ahmadinejad will be looking pretty good to us. Sarah just needs to do a good job in Alaska, get reelected then toss her hat in the ring for 2012.

I would caution those here dismissing these early polls as meaningless, regardless of which direction they skew.
Many here dismissed the polling in the run-up to Barack Christ’s election – all the way up to the very day it happened – because the desired results was not favorable. Outliers aside, the vast majority of the polling data trended in BO’s direction, and that ended up being the definitive election result.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html
Conversely, in 2004, much of the polling (contradictory to the claims of some) trended towards Bush – while a few polls reported in the media (for obvious reasons that do not need to be explained here) showed Bush behind.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Presidential_04/chart3way.html
Outliers should be viewed with skepticism. Collective poll results (think RCP averages) should not be ignored.

Just what I was thinking. Coincidence that the media outlets doing the most to damage her in public would “find” poll results to reinforce their stories?
Also, I’d more likely believe that DKos would have found the SAME results as the newest poll and reversed the numbers to bait Cuda into running into an ambush.

Even though the left is still doing everything it can to demean her while they prop up such super experienced leaders

ground with many people across this nation.
I think there is a good chance that by the time the next 4 years is up,the “hope and change” crowd will feel like fools
and many people will see that Obama is nothing but a corrupt politician whose main concern is himself.
Palin relates to many people across a wide spectrum and really gets into people’s “kitchen table” issues with more credibility than the typical liberal elitist.
If she continues to make progress in Alaska or gains a Senate seat and the GOP does not allow the left to control the message tearing her down, she will be a formidable opponent in 2012.

shuzilla on January 6, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Has anyone looked at the RCP polling averages I cited?
2004 – Bush was ahead, and Bush won (even with the anti-Bush bias in the media):
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html
2008 – Obama was decisively ahead, and Obama won:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Presidential_04/chart3way.html
These are averages of all major polls, not singular “liberal” polls. The same ones polling in 2004 were polling in 2008.
So in 2004, even with all of the “liberal MSM polling,” Bush pulled it out. By 2008, it was completely reversed.
Be advised – ignore this trend at your own peril. It appears that some here are already looking to repeat 2008 by sticking their fingers in their ears.

You know the MSM is striking at SP from all angles to nip her 2012 candidacy in the bud. They know Team Sarah has currently 63,000 members and growing, that Sarah is backed by many conservative Republicans and conservatives in general; in other words she has a following. Let’s take her out now-first let’s destroy her family and if that doesn’t work let’s destroy her as a viable politician. Either way her goose will be cooked and Obama can have a free ride in 2012. That’s how the MSM views this-all out war. Their resources are unlimited. They will win if we let them. The question we all have to ask ourselves is will we acquiesce and finally yield or do we have the backbone to vow never to succumb.

You know it’s bad enough when the liberal trolls come out and bash Gov Palin but the snide comments from our own side get really old. Face it – your preferred candidate didn’t get the nod and Palin didn’t lose the election for McCain.

Looks Like Parnell may be running for Murkowski’s spot. Palin looks like she will stay on as Gov.
Might be an interesting race with Parnell and Murkowski.
