Coulter banned for life from NBC or something; Update: NBC denies

Or something.

The nation’s top selling conservative author has been banned from appearing on NBC, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

Banned for life!

“We are just not going to have her on any more, it’s over,” a top network source explains…

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a TODAY insider reveals. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”

Media Matters pushed them to cancel but there was no nutroots groundswell that I’m aware of. They knew what they were getting when they booked her considering what happened the last time she was on and her tendency to refer to The One in interviews as “B. Hussein Obama.” Scheduling her put them in a spot where they’d either have to go through with it and spoil their new liberal Olber-brand or cave and be ridiculed endlessly for lefty pandering by O’Reilly and Fox. So, er, why’d they do it? And why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops? Anyone else find this strange/stupid, even by NBC’s standards?

Update: Stranger still.

Late today, NBC News denied the story with this statement: “We’ve had Ann Coulter on ‘Today’ many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East, we decided to cancel her appearance tomorrow. Understanding the media as well as she does, we are sure she knows this happens from time to time. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future.”…

The Drudge story says NBC “replaced Coulter with showbiz reporter Perez Hilton,” who also has a book being released tomorrow. NBC tells TVNewser Hilton is just appearing in the fourth hour and had been booked far in advance.

“The news in Washington and the Middle East” is sufficiently dire to leave no time for Coulter but some time for Perez Hilton?

Perez Hilton, Mid-East expert…nah!

Blake on January 5, 2009 at 7:33 PM

I don’t know what the problem with miniskirts is. Ann’s arguments are always the centerpeice of any appearance she makes, and that’s more than good enough for me – especially as her arguments are always well-constructed, to the point, and leave liberal body parts all over the set when she’s done.

progressoverpeace on January 5, 2009 at 7:18

Certain people shouldn’t wear certain clothing. She doesn’t have the body to wear a miniskirt. She doesn’t even have a body.

Pretend she’s a liberal. Is she still hot? Or does she look like a transvestite impersonating Mary Kate Olson?

RightOFLeft on January 5, 2009 at 7:34 PM

Do they actually believe that people are not aware that they are The All-Obama Network?

Every Dhimmicrat I know—-every single on—-thinks the media is UN-biased (except for Fox).

And from their starry-eyed responses I can tell they are serious.

ex-Democrat on January 5, 2009 at 7:34 PM

NBC stands for Nothin’ But Cr*p, doesn’t it? I’m just guessing ’cause I don’t watch it.

ich dien on January 5, 2009 at 7:34 PM

Any “new” (ha!) organization who employs the likes of Keith Olbmermann, should feel obliged to air anyone, anytime, whether they just stepped off the operating table from a lobotomy or whether they are in the last stages of rabies.

Anyone who watches NBC for their news is a complete idiot, simply put. There are elementary school classes with better journalists.

NoDonkey on January 5, 2009 at 7:35 PM

I just want to know, what’s up with the miniskirts???

omnipotent on January 5, 2009 at 7:05 PM

That reminds me of a Benny Hill skit where he walked by a sign that said “Up with miniskirts!” Then he turned to the camera and smiled.

Anyway, I only watch NBC for the MNF and Earl. Oh, and occasionally local news because they come on before the others. Ann is great, but I wouldn’t have seen her on NBC unless it was a clip posted here at HA.

Perez Hilton, separated at birth from Frank Luntz.

She’s an acerbic smartass. That attracts and quite frankly, inspires me. However, she looks like Manute Bol and Tom Wopat had a kid.

What I take issue with is my own tenuous attempt to get in a jab about her looks by way of commenting on another person’s observations. That’s shady.

Then Scarborough must really feel all alone over at NBC now that Tucker Carlson is not used much. At least Colmes had Shep (not in a sexual way, I think) over at Fox.

AllahPundit, you left out the most important part of the quote, voici:

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a TODAY insider reveals. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either. And besides — the last time we had her on, she turned me into a newt.

FTFY.

Ann’s low self-esteem is evident from her hair-tossing and bad mini-skirts.

If she really thought she was as smart as she says, she’d be more comfortable in her skin. Just my 2 cents.

She can be funny as hell at times though, and she grates the moonbats so much that I can’t help but like her. She’d be fun to have a beer with and shoot the sh!t one on one.

omnipotent on January 5, 2009 at 6:49 PM

Yep. Great person high on the list of people Sapwolf would love to have a beer with. Her book “How to Talk to a Liberal” was good. She definitely was in love with JFK, jr.

Sapwolf on January 5, 2009 at 7:56 PM

NBC is absolutely 100% radical Liberal, 100% of the time. This network refuses to recognize any form of diversity as it relates to ideology. NO opposing views will be tolerated, not during this administration. The media holds itself responsible for the election of Obama. These radical Liberals will not allow their creation to be tarnished on their own airwaves.

I hope I live long enough to see the total failure (death) of these networks, as they have become nothing other than a propaganda tool in the Democrat tool chest. The day will come when members of these networks will face their judgment, either by way of government or by way of the people. NBC = the American version of Al Jazeera.

Mojave Mark on January 5, 2009 at 8:03 PM

NBC must really be hurting for viewership to resort to this kind of artificial controversy. There’s no reason not to have Coulter on–it’ll only increase their ratings.

m064404 on January 5, 2009 at 8:09 PM

How can you not love her concise analysis?
“Invade their countries, kill the leaders and convert them to Christianity.”

Sounds like a firm foreign policy IMHO.

tank_killer69 on January 5, 2009 at 8:10 PM

Just seems a bit shallow for a strong, conservative woman. Michelle doesn’t trot out her full hotness in every TV appearance.

Ann is smart, she doesn’t need the sideshow (she DOES have great legs).

omnipotent on January 5, 2009 at 7:11 PM

Not to me; she strikes me as perfectly confident and witty. And yes, she does have nice legs, and seems to think that this only further pisses off the lefties who so despise her.

But the legs are the sideshow, her wit is the main event.

Michelle, on the other hand, isn’t a single woman. She’s married with kids, who might not completely understand Mom crossing her legs in a miniskirt on Chris Matthews’s show.

(Sigh.)

Jaibones on January 5, 2009 at 8:12 PM

I could never do what Ann does because I am overly polite and sometimes I know I shouldn’t laugh at some her statements. That being said, I am proud of her abilities to answer back and to be heard when others try to talk over her. I don’t believe she says anything that is ruder than what is said to and about conservatives so I consider her an asset. I wish I had her quick wit and I believe sarcasm to be a talent.

Cindy Munford on January 5, 2009 at 8:15 PM

I love sarcasm and Ann’s is pure genius. She is to sarcasm as Mozart was to music, or Michelangelo to sculpture, Einstien to physics…

I think she’s hilarious and so very smart. I’m glad she’s on my side. I’m sure I wouldn’t think she was nearly as funny if I didn’t agree with her 99.9% of the time.

NBC on the other hand is worthless.

Isn’t NBC owned by Pravda?

Zorro on January 5, 2009 at 8:46 PM

I remember thinking that Ann Coulter was just looking for the ire of the MSM when she suggested we convert our enemy’s peoples to Christianity. I thought she was looking to get fired or dropped [or whatever it is that happens to people in her field when they get caught calling somebody a n*gger or something like that--with exception to Jesse Jackson, of course], but it has taken me all this time to understand or even simply digest this statement.

I know now that she was right. There’s clearly a religious war going on in this world, even if it hasn’t hit us here in Kalifornia yet. I’m not a Christian but I do live in a Judeo-Christian society, and it’s inifinitely better than any sh*tholes the other world’s religions have established.

Basically, she was right and it’s taken me two years to figure it out.

So to my colllege teachers: you were wrong. My beliefs, my way of life, my society, my norms and mores…they’re ALL better than those of the rest of the world. Maybe it is cultural that moe-hom-ed married a 9-year old and I don’t. Or maybe we’re just better than them.

(I get depressed just thinking about how much more successful I’d be right now if I had conservative teachers!)

They’re not . . .

interested in someone so critical of Obama? Because its “just not the time” and its “just not what their audience wants” ?

freedom_nut on January 5, 2009 at 8:50 PM

She wrote that the day after 9/11. I’m pretty sure she not only meant it, but felt pretty darned strongly about it. And to date, no liberal has even tried to come up with anything like a better idea (turns out it’s easier for them to just mindlessly scream about how incredibly tolerant they are.)

logis on January 6, 2009 at 12:45 AM

Since AP put this story in twice, I’ll put a comment in twice as well:
Ann’s book, Godless, was better than any other conservative book that I’ve read, including O’Reilly’s, Hannity’s and Ingraham’s. Her book would cause me to first exclaim “Amen!”, then laugh, then read paragraphs to my wife. A few months later, my wife read it and had the same reaction! So we essentially read it together — twice! I’ll get her current book and look forward to her truth, her wit and her courage in being politically incorrect. Thanks Ann. Even if your next book were a dud, which of course is absurd, we’d buy it just to show our appreciation.
And the previous comments are right: if you haven’t read her books, you don’t know Ann Coulter.

Christian Conservative on January 6, 2009 at 1:31 AM

She’ll sell more copies of her book through this negative press.

NBC will get more ratings when they finally announce she’s coming on.

They will announce it a week in advance and really hype it up.

Both the blonde hottie and the leftist news outlet will win.
Clever ploy by both.

Black Adam on January 6, 2009 at 2:05 AM

She is brilliant, funny, witty, strong, unwavering, tireless, acerbic, inspirational, hated (and I mean HATED) by liberals and she’d be gorgeous if she wasn’t so skinny.
But hey, nine out of ten is awsome. I will go without lunches to buy her book (if you saw me, you’d know what a committment that is). I will have to sneak it home so my daughter doesn’t swipe it before I finish reading it.

JeffinSac on January 6, 2009 at 8:18 AM

Hype for their books seems to be the name of the game with everyone on talk radio and TV, consevatives and liberals alike. It is often so frequent and so blatant that I tend to change stations since, while I know it’s getting the word out, it grows old.

jeanie on January 6, 2009 at 8:29 AM

Personally, I can’t STAND her. But this action by NBC further proves its change into OBC- Obama Broadcasting Corp. Coulter has the right to spew her nonsense and one little segment with her would not have minimized the Middle East coverage. They just don’t want anyone on NBC to say one negative or challenging thing against Obama.

NBC has been shilling for Obama from the very beginning and it has become the “FoxNews” for the left. True Journalism is dead.
