Coulter banned for life from NBC or something; Update: NBC denies

Or something.

The nation’s top selling conservative author has been banned from appearing on NBC, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

Banned for life!

“We are just not going to have her on any more, it’s over,” a top network source explains…

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a TODAY insider reveals. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”

Media Matters pushed them to cancel but there was no nutroots groundswell that I’m aware of. They knew what they were getting when they booked her considering what happened the last time she was on and her tendency to refer to The One in interviews as “B. Hussein Obama.” Scheduling her put them in a spot where they’d either have to go through with it and spoil their new liberal Olber-brand or cave and be ridiculed endlessly for lefty pandering by O’Reilly and Fox. So, er, why’d they do it? And why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops? Anyone else find this strange/stupid, even by NBC’s standards?

Update: Stranger still.

Late today, NBC News denied the story with this statement: “We’ve had Ann Coulter on ‘Today’ many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East, we decided to cancel her appearance tomorrow. Understanding the media as well as she does, we are sure she knows this happens from time to time. We look forward to welcoming her back in the future.”…

The Drudge story says NBC “replaced Coulter with showbiz reporter Perez Hilton,” who also has a book being released tomorrow. NBC tells TVNewser Hilton is just appearing in the fourth hour and had been booked far in advance.

“The news in Washington and the Middle East” is sufficiently dire to leave no time for Coulter but some time for Perez Hilton?

Another ‘Best Seller’ and she don’t need their air time anyway.

The real mystery is why with so many great authors of great books out there anyone would select to interview someone who writes such worthless schlock to being with.

alex342 on January 5, 2009 at 6:41 PM

that quote alone probably makes the case for her new book. Guess I’ll have to buy it now ad read it with the other books I’m reading.

theguardianii on January 5, 2009 at 6:41 PM

Nice one, NBC. You just raised the stakes on her popularity. Keep it up.

What if Fox banned a lib?

macummings on January 5, 2009 at 6:41 PM

To put it quite simply, I think they’ve fully embraced being a propaganda organ–they’re just no longer making an effort at hiding it anymore.

…why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops? Anyone else find this strange/stupid, even by NBC’s standards?

Because she doesn’t like The One. Duh. And to answer the second question, not in the least.

gryphon202 on January 5, 2009 at 6:42 PM

Personally, I like her. If she weren’t so popular, she wouldn’t command that much money.

macummings on January 5, 2009 at 6:42 PM

NBC hasn’t made sense for a while now, so I’m not surprised. I hope the other stations report and help her book sales….funny.

grif99 on January 5, 2009 at 6:43 PM

Great. If I ever get television(as in cable or satellite or rabbit ears, which I don’t), I’ll filter out all NBC channels and affiliates. If they want to be a propaganda network, fine.

Truth is, I’m no fan of Coulter. I think she’s as obnoxious as a lot of loony lefties a lot of times and she comes across as nervous and unsure. However, this is unconscionable.

NBC, go to hell, where your ratings are.

MadisonConservative on January 5, 2009 at 6:43 PM

I can only guess it’s so when she is eventually brought back on NBC for an interview, millions will tune in. Like how Letterman pretended to hate Oprah. Just a stunt, that’s my guess.

LastRick on January 5, 2009 at 6:43 PM

Yet another career-ending moment for Ann.

Too funny.

Um, isn’t that offering money for an assault? That can’t be legal.

Probably because she sells more books than 90% of the so-called “Liberal” authors currently plagiarizing/writing books.

I haven’t watched NBC in years. So who cares who they ban? Maybe Jennifer Aniston can tell them about policy – appears to be NBC’s intellectual heft anyway.

Maybe FNC can have her on Red Eye all the time. She’s funny as all get out on that show.

mjk on January 5, 2009 at 6:47 PM

Sorry Ann.Don’t spoil our dream.

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” a TODAY insider reveals. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”

Uh Hoh Jeezus H.Christ.
What’s that …a secret or something…?

It’s finally publicly known policy.
No criticism of the Messiahed One will be tolerated on NBC.
They are no longer a news organization but opinion vendors giving their leftie audience what they want.

NBC says “if you don’t like it go bleep yourself. We can love anybody we want to”.

The truth is dead.

NeoKong on January 5, 2009 at 6:48 PM

And if Fox News had done this with Al Franken?

Oh wait… only LIEBERAL stations can censor people.

Skywise on January 5, 2009 at 6:48 PM

Way for NBC to actually give Ann Coulter even greater publicity for her new book by canceling her interview.

Liberals are extremely stupid. It’s so funny.

nitzsche on January 5, 2009 at 6:48 PM

Ann’s low self-esteem is evident from her hair-tossing and bad mini-skirts.

If she really thought she was as smart as she says, she’d be more comfortable in her skin. Just my 2 cents.

She can be funny as hell at times though, and she grates the moonbats so much that I can’t help but like her. She’d be fun to have a beer with and shoot the sh!t one on one.

So, er, why’d they do it? And why would someone at the show give a quote that juicy to Drudge knowing what he’d do with it, given that he’s a friend of Coulter’s and dependably promotes her books whenever a new one drops?

Maybe because it seemed like a perfectly sensible decision to them, similar to way in which the auto industry execs saw absolutely nothing wrong with taking separate private jets to DC to ask for taxpayer dollars or with taking out expensive newspaper ads to say “thanks for the money.”

In NBC’s defense, the dinosaurs probably didn’t see the asteroid coming, either.

Infidoll on January 5, 2009 at 6:55 PM

Ann Coulter scares the living sh!t out of the libs. They have never won a single argument with her so they have decided to take their bat and ball and run away from the filed. Typical lib maneuver.

Coulter works better on “Red Eye” because there’s nothing outrageous she can say there that can’t be equalled and/or topped by the host or the guests. On the other networks she often lacks patience, and can’t wait for them to serve up a great big liberal shibboleth softball of a statement and goes out and tries too hard to be provocative on her own.

A good way to sell books — and she deserves kudos for getting this kind of boost from NBC right before her next tome hits the store shelves — but over time, the act is as predictable as the next clueless New York Times editorial.
