Team Obama: Richardson misled us

It looks as if Barack Obama and his transition team know how badly Bill Richardson’s resignation reflects on them. They have started leaking to the press that Richardson’s to blame for the embarrassing spectacle this afternoon of his withdrawal as a Cabinet nominee. Jake Tapper has the details:
Sources tell ABC News that officials on the Obama Transition Team feel that before he was formally offered the job of commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor.
Once the investigation became more widely known through national media reports last month, sources tell ABC News, the Obama Transition Team realized the FBI would not be able to give Richardson a clean political bill of health before the new administration is ready to send his nomination up to the Senate for confirmation.
Meanwhile, Richardson and his team has to defend themselves:
The Richardson camp says the governor was forthcoming, with sources close to the governor noting that there had been reports about the controversy in local media such as the Albuquerque Journal as far back as August 2008. The governor discussed the investigation with the Obama team, they say, and believes that he and his administration have done nothing wrong.
I’d guess that Richardson probably didn’t disclose the extent of the problem. Richardson feels it necessary to resign now after the published reports from the last three weeks, but he had to know these issues when he accepted the position. If all that has happened since December 15th is that the facts he disclosed to Team Obama were made public, it would hardly require a resignation now.
But beyond that, this is a pretty lame attempt to shift blame away from the incoming administration. They should have done their own homework on Richardson once they heard about the investigation. In the end, they have the responsibility to make acceptable appointments for Cabinet positions. If the extent of the vetting Team Obama is doing is reading resumés and accepting explanations for federal investigations without question or further checking, then they’re pretty obviously incompetent at it.
They also seem to have no compunction about calling Richardson a liar in public. I wonder how that will play politically with their base.

The bureaucrats(who largely swing left) have used their institutionalized power to run deep interference for THE ONE!
I almost welcome the bankruptcy of hyperinflation since it may well force the Feds to implode.

But Richardson DID get his finger in the air long enough to wrangle “the Hispanic vote” for Obama. Never ceases to amaze me how willing most on the Left are to be played.

I’m tryng to figure out which will frustrate me more. The numberof these scandals that are sure to plague this administration (and hurt the nation as a whole) or the number of Obama’s followers who will act shocked and surprised as if it was unknown that someone as corrupt and blindly ambitionous as Obama was more than capable of carrying out such acts.

Oh, they don’t care. They’re still dazzled by the rainbows and unicorns. The One can do no wrong, you see, so this is a good thing happening.
What I mean is, they don’t care about loyalty, except what they think is His loyalty to their political positions. That’s when the disillusionment will set in.

What I am hearing about Richardson appears to be no different than other stories about Obama and the Clintons. The old quid pro quo thing. And it doesn’t sound like it was a crime he committed. I think Bill and Hill just wanted to toss Richardson and the FBI report was the excuse. What is Richardson going to do at this point ? If he opens his mouth he is finished within the party.
Congress is going to have hearings and the GOP is going to berate the cabinet nominees but they can’t bring up all of the dirt because they are just as guilty. This is simple pay back from the Clintons who right now seem to be in control.

APPARENTLY, Obama and wife are too busy inviting celebrities “to perform” at “their,” uhh, crowning. That and dealing with resentments about not being able to use Blair House until later in January than they prefer.
These two, the most spoiled, petulent, immature and untrustworthy (and unstable accordingly) I’ve yet to read about — makes me long for the lost possibility of, say, the Helmesleys as more competent (by comparison) Executives (at least they owned a dog).
I’ll probably get investigated now, if not already. I’ve heard from a number of ordinary Americans who do (seriously) fear retributions for not supporting Obama.

Actually, that’s the scary part. To get a Top Secret SCI (specialized compartmented information) clearance in the Navy, I had to disclose detailed information about all that I had done for the past 10 years to include my associates and finacial dealings.
Those standards don’t hold true of politicians who are “vetted” by dint of being elected to office. Obama is a man who counts terrorists among his closest friends, has questionable ties to Islam from foreign relations, and has many associates under federal indictment gets to see it all. He’d never get a security clearance under the normal rules.

Obama can spend his annual millions-of-dollars’ worth Hawaii vacations but they couldn’t arrange (easily by first desire) to rent a house or secure a hotel suite in D.C. prior to the inauguration. The two most imbecilic, self-centered idiots to have ever attacked D.C.
Last I read, they’re now moving into a hotel for a week or so since Blair House could not be snatched from under the feet of established guests of the Presidency before mid January. But their move in that direction (hotel) seems to have been under protest: they actually assumed they’d just move on in.

What? No!
There was an error made by the Richardson team during its pre-op phase to ascertain whether certain criteria which is critical to the verfication process was properly certified and actualized, and this error caused undisclosed abnormalities within the indicated transitional team to be not only marginalized but also homogenized, pasteurized and liquified.
Duh.

I am expecting a full blown civil (or uncivil) war between the The One and the Billary (haven’t used that term in a while). I would thoroughly enjoy it but I am afraid the chaos is going to surround national defense and forign policy during a time of extreme danger. I suspect the defense secretary is not a fan of the Billary and the Billary as SOS will attempt to bully him. With Albright making policy and loyal to the Clintons and not really fond of America’s role in the world, we could see an emasculated defense secretary and a pissed military. Maybe I am worrying too much.

So educate your neighbor, get to work writing letters, harassing elected officials, and being active in helping each of us to get America back.

Agreed. And it’s not like any of this is coming to us a surprise. But for some, this and more was preferable to teh evil McCain. If he was elected, we could have fought him on amnesty and defeated his plans, just as Bush’s plan to have his personal lawyer become the next supreme court justice. Don’t believe me? Just ask supreme court justice Harriet Miers. I pray that the 4 to 8 years of an Obama presidency is worth it to the one issue so called conservatives who would rather have Obama as president so – by magic – we would have a real conservative president in 4 years.

I’ve had more grueling inspection than Obama has for a few job applications. I guess that’s because I’m conservative, a Republican and rather pale.
Actually, seriously now, I think it’s because no one in the Democrat Party cares what the Constitution says and they’re continually in need of being led around by “celebrity” as long as it’s Communist and sympathizes with Karl Marx. For me, it’s the former. Too many of Obama’s supporters are too damned stupid to know any better. They truly believe that all the world’s ills will be better the minute a corrupt Chicago politician takes office on January 20th.
The more interesting dynamic for me is how long Obama is able to keep from making a policy decision that is his alone without blaming Bush/Congress/etc. I’m not talking about stuff he changes by executive order (federal prohibition on killing life, for example). When do we see the first Obama “initiative.” Already we are hearing that the stimulus package he campaigned on won’t be in place by the time he takes office. When does the filthy bastard start leading?????

McCain won the republican primary. At that point, I was taken back by the number of people who didn’t understand that simple concept. The moment to support Fred! or Huck or Mayor America was past. It was then down to two people, one of whom was guaranteed to win, the other, lose. And you hated McCain, and you wanted him to lose. You got your wish. So you are really not fooling anyone by calling me a traitor because I wanted Obama to lose. I didn’t advocate McCain here while the primaries were ongoing. I voted for Romney. My past here is wide open And so is yours.

Do you believe that we need to rid ourselves of RINOS and other republicans that do not share conservative values and ideals?
Or, are you one of those big tent republicans that feel that we need to bend our values and ideals to include those that may not necessarily believe in conservative values to get a vote?

The media frequently confuses itself with the Justice Department, and far too many politicians and voters are willing to let them get away with it. It’s always nice to see the actual Justice Department clear its throat and remind the press that people with (D) after their name can be investigated and indicted, too. You can’t really blame Bill Richardson or Blago for assuming they would be able to escape any scrutiny, and in Richardson’s case, I’m sure the Obama transition team made the same assumption. On the day justice finally catches up with B. Hussein Obama, the only people more surprised than B. Hussein Obama will be the editors of the New York Times, and the directors of the major television news networks.

and as a person falling into a similar boat I backed McCain with my time and money and cared more about his victory, obviously, than Mr. Kill Campaigning there is a sorta crisis did.
McCain is done, and it is a good thing he is done. He was a deeply flawed candidate who has exposed the folly of our proclivity for open primary nomination proceedings in lieu of the donks closed races and caucii.
John McCain must NEVER be allowed to happen again. We could not defeat a flatout America hating Marxist traitor who may not even be legally eligible to run. The office requires a person who wants it badly enough to go hell bent for leather in its pursuit.

All I see are holdovers from the Clinton Administration.
I would like to see this end Richardson’s career on the national stage, but I learn to never say never.
Even Elliot Spitzer is attempting to rehabilitate himself as a human being.
Next up, the Silk Pony, John Edwards.
And I am sick of hearing about McCain. He lost by 8 million votes.
If the Republicans run competent candidates and can answer the simple question of what it means to be a Republican, they will start winning elections.
I have voted Republican for 35 years, and I can’t articulate what the party stands for at this time.
If I am content losing elections, I would rather vote for third party candidates I like than whatever dead horses (think Dole and McCain) the Republicans run.
molonlabe28 on January 4, 2009 at 7:13 PM
The same point can be made with how weakly the media vetted Obama.
Obama skated into this presidency by avoiding what few questions he was asked. Most were softballs anyway or fawning fan-club queries. Obama must have assumed, given the soft treatment he was pampered with or having success by implying that interviewers were racist if they stepped over the line he drew in the sand, that his whole period in office would be a continuation of his life of political ease.
If, as John Q. Citizen, I was aware of the federal investigation of Richardson some months ago, how is it that Obama’s crack transition team with its ridiculous questionnaire to determine fitness was so clueless? I don’t even live anywhere near New Mexico, yet I knew about the questionable quid pro quo behavior of Richardson.
It’s time to ask some hard questions about the fitness of Eric Holder as potential AG, too.
The contributions to Bill Clinton’s library raise too many red flags about Hillary’s fitness to serve as Secretary of State. (Interestingly, her campaign bundler, Norman Hsu, provided financial favors to the Obama campaign, as well.)
Follow the money with this whole rotten Democrat machine. They seek office to serve themselves, not the people.

Rid ourselves? All we have to do is not vote for them in the state primaries. When it comes down to a decision between a RINO and a democrat, at what point is it acceptable to support a democrat? The other republicans in our party who voted for McCain in the republican primary and made him our candidate are the ones who hold that responsibility. If I had my way, Mitt Romney would have been up against Obama. Or Hillary, as it looked like she was going to be the nominee back then. Its too bad that a better conservative wasn’t able to make the case to the republican voters. If Fred or Rudy would have been able to win, then I would have voted for them. Morons like highhopes aside, I dont see any reason for not supporting the candidate for president that my party picked. It’s life. For what’s it worth, the local paper solicited “Letters to Obama.” It will never see print because it doesn’t fit the editorial narrative but my response follows:
Dear President-elect Obama:
I want you to use your unique position as the first multi-racial President to restore a sense that the federal government is operating ethically and for the greater good of all Americans instead of fulfilling partisan agendas. Your heritage offers you the ability to prove the old paradigms have changed by installing an administration that is bipartisan and beyond ethical reproach.
To date, you are falling short of this concept by stuffing your cabinet with Clinton-era retreads and having your incoming administration associated with THREE separate federal investigations/indictments (Tony Rezko, Rod Blagojevich, Bill Richardson). How are we to believe that you are changing the way government operates when so many of your colleagues and associates are facing criminal charges for corruption? Where are the new voices and the new ethical standards for public service you campaigned on? Where is the new face of government? If you want to live up to your stated campaign objectives, you too need to rid yourself of these past associations. Are you up to the task or are you just the first Chicago politician to make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.? The choice is yours.

I have long thought that Obama was a front for the Clintons. They knew that Hillary couldn’t win, so they get Obama facing her in the primaries and then she folds and makes herself as a victim. Obama equals Clintons. He’s an empty suit…. enter the ex-Clinton team. And, putting Hillary in the State Department where she is forming her own administration of more Clinton people. Obama will do what the Clintons tell him to do, if not – does Vince Foster bring back any memories. They have already floated that Obama is the second coming of John Kennedy. The trouble is that the media has no intention of doing what they should be doing and digging into all the corruption. I think that the financial mess was caused by AGI, banks and who knows who (Soros) taking money out of the system to give to the democrats. It collapsed and now the government (stupid of Bush, but it was Paulson who recommended it) gave them the money back that they used to buy the government back.
Well, aren’t we in a fine kettle of fish? A new venue for reporting on what the media isn’t reporting should be started on the internet and on Direct TV or somewhere. Also, we need to report on these media types and what they are up to. It’s about time that their dirty laundry starts getting reported. I’m game to follow, network and report (with accuracy, of course) on the comings and goings of such as Katie Couric, David Gregory, Mark Rick and all the rest. Wouldn’t it be fun? It’s time to fight back against the Clintons. They are truly evil.

Somewhere, in the dark, Hillary is smiling a big, toothy smile.
And Bubba is upstairs doing the maid.

I like you posts, you have many interesting points but you keep going back over the lack of enthusiasm for Sen. McCain’s campaign chastising people who probably voted for him. How is this helpful? We are where we are and I look forward to your thoughts on that and upcoming events. Sorry to be critical but I value your input.

Or he’s a AA schlub who looked and talked the part and somehow ended up in the majors.

John McCain ran a pathetic campaign, apparently scared to death to be critical of the Obama connections to terrorists & all around really evil people. McCain handcuffed Palin, and the rest of the RNC people from gong after Obama and his anti-American ungrateful loud-mouthed wife.
If a few of who donated and voted for McCain seem a little unhappy with the joker, all I can say is that we earned the right to be disappointed. The man might just as well been a plant for the Dems all along.

The question is…..does Team O feel the need to nominate another Hispanic to replace BR? I am guessing it will NOT be another white guy!

Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor.
Hmmm…it’s called vetting. Maybe Team Obama should look into it?

Hi, Gang! This is almost more fun than the day of Reagan’s inauguration when the Iranians freed the hostages.
The way the body count under Barry’s bus is piling up, it will be parallel to Pike’s Peak before he’s out of office.
Richardson was so proud of himself for dumping Hillary to go with Barry and now Team Obama is backing away from him like he’s a leper.
What goes around comes around.
