Quotes of the day

“This is, admittedly, a glum view of the future. But we can still avoid the new hot wars — or at least cool them down a bit. For starters, we should redouble our efforts to slow down global warming and undo the damage humanity has already done to the environment. Every little bit helps, so by all means, hassle your senator and recycle those bottles.

Beyond that, we need to get our heads around the idea that global warming is one of the most serious long-term threats to our national and personal security. For the next two decades or so, the climate will continue to change: Historic levels of built-up greenhouse gases will continue to warm the world — and spin it toward new patterns of conflict. So we need to do more than simply reverse climate change. We need to understand and react to it — ordinary people and governments alike — in ways that avoid conflict. Over the next few years, we may find that climate-change accords and peace treaties start to overlap more and more. And we may find that global warming is heating new conflicts up to the boiling point.”

*
“Mr. Gore has gone so far to discourage debate on climate as to refer to those who question his simplistic view of the atmosphere as ‘flat-Earthers.’ This, too, is right on target, except for one tiny detail. It is exactly the opposite of the truth.

Indeed, it is Mr. Gore and his brethren who are flat-Earthers.”

At least most smart ‘eco-marxists’ these days know at least enough to refer to weather as ‘climate-change’ rather than GLOBAL WARMING…looks like someone didn’t get the memo…

The second quote was from Huffington Post? Wow! I scanned parts of the article and the only part I didn’t understand, (probably because I didn’t read the whole thing), was, “Again, Mr. Gore, I accept your apology.”

When did Gore ever apologize?

The only meltdown is the global financial one. Other than that, it seems pretty darn cold lately. We should be glad that global warming is not sexy enough for Barack Obama and will go on the back burner.

Sorry Al, that is just the way it is.

‘Climate $cience’ is the new phrenology.

The hypothesis is proven by whatever observation occurs.

eg. it is hotter it is Abrupt Climate Change, it is colder it is abrupt climate change.

The “cure” is the same regardless of observed state of the environment.

“there is out of control *insert warming, cooling, drought, rains, storms* and therefore we MUST hamstring capitalism and prosperity to curb these *insert the aforementioned*”

The believers don’t get the con….now that the political landscape has been flipped by the crowds that soil themselves as a political statement the “crisis” is solved with minimal pain through the magic of new light bulbs or whatever….

no way in hades Bambi is gonna take the multi-trillion dollar cost of the Gaiacult’s beliefs in an already wobbly economy.

“change”

sven10077 on January 4, 2009 at 9:59 PM

This tripe, particularly in light of the reality of a cooling trend is getting quite tedious. Listen up libtards: A theory with which you claim that anything that happens (temp up, temp down, more storms, less storms) is proof of your theory is nothing more than snake-oil and pure flat earth dogma. Stop bugging those of us who have more intelligence than an inflated balloon and go find something else to whine about. Any politicians who continue to buy into this BS need to be voted out in the next election if they can’t be recalled from office for gross stupidity.

Al started a hoax. Which started the whole world thinking they were going to be frying.
But what Al didn’t see was that the joke would be on he.
Oh, no, Al started to scream and cry. Which finally started the whole world laughing.
Oh, if he’d only seen that the joke would be on he.

Al looked at the skies. Running his hands over his frosted up eyes.
And Al fell from his throne. Cracking his head on the ice and choking on all the foolish things that he’d said.

So Al’s power finally died. Which started the whole world living drilling.
Oh, if he’d only seen that the joke would be on he.

Oh, no, that the joke would be on he.

I agree with the Huffington post and Mr. Lee is obviously delusional and dangerous. Dangerous in the fact he’s part of some kind of university propaganda program that will fill minds of mush with bogus information about the environment encouraging war.

The inevitable and unavoidable climate change is reason for international conflicts? Really, let’s see, longer growing seasons will produce more food.

Incredible, I’m agreeing with the Huffington Post.

Not that I put much stock in it before, but I did shy away from ridiculing it.

OneGyT on January 4, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Global Warming is a religion and a political movement. It has nothing to do with science, as no scientist would ever say that there is no point is discussing a theory or testing to see if it is correct. Global Warming is simply a political movement with a scientific veneer, whose aim to control the economy and change the lives of both those who believe in it and those who know it’s a hoax.

sven10077 on January 4, 2009 at 11:00 PM

The utter lack of evidence on behalf of AGW make the conclusion inescapable: ‘Global warming’ and ‘climate change’ no longer have anything to do with the climate and man’s effect on it. (If it ever did.) It is now simply the ultimate mechanism by which statists can wrest control over people’s lives away from individuals and place it in the grip of central governments. If you can control people’s use of energy, you can control everything: their work, their leisure, their home, their transportation, their income, their possessions. Nothing will be beyond the reach of ostensibly planet-saving governments, not even the decision of whether or not to have children. (Every child comes with a carbon footprint price-tag, don’t you know?) And if anyone objects, you just hit them over the head with the biggest fear-mongering club of them all: You’re threatening the future of the Earth! Crimes against humanity! The naked mendacity of power-hungry activists, politicians, and industrialists spouting scientific theories they neither understand nor believe in order to accomplish this is our modern-day fascism.

Much of the same can be said about nationalized health care. With the “government” paying the bills they can dictate the care you receive and your contribution to your care. Are you a smoker? Well you might find your care options limited or find yourself behind a “deserving” person who isn’t a smoker. Are you obese? Sorry you don’t qualify for the scarce supply of drug X because you brought your condition on yourself. Thinking about having a third child? Well, you’ll need to fund much of this birth yourself. We have a two child limit for 100% coverage.

Energy and health care, the Socialist death grip.

The preferred term is ” GLOBAL WARMING ” not ” climate change ” . Climate change was a dumbed downed compromise with the Bush administratration to get them to acknowlege the reality of this phenomenon. And yes tempratures are rising more now than at any time the past century. Al Gore is articulating the views of the sceintific community.

That’s right, folks. Semantics on what to call climate change global warming?

Over the next few years, we may find that climate-change accords and peace treaties start to overlap more and more.

I don’t know which to laugh at first; climate-change accords or peace treaties. They’re both ridiculous folly and very costly. Real peace doesn’t come from treaties any more than stopping the climate from changing is anything but a fool’s goal.

P.S. A cooler climate would tend to restrict habitable speace and reduce crop yields, leading to conflicts. Ethanol has the same sort of effect.

Kini on January 5, 2009 at 12:47 AM

Climate change alarmism isn’t about Science, its a political movement that is using fear to try and create a socialist state. This has been going on ever since the emergence of the socialist radical movement back in the 60’s.

Their attempts at creating a global panic about the environment have been fairly persistent throughout the years. Just look at the 70’s when the environmental movement was saying that the world was headed into another Ice age. In the 80’s it was the hole in the Ozone layer that was going to kill us all. The 90’s saw the emergence of the Green house affect and ultimately Global Warming. Now it is Climate change caused by carbon in the atmosphere that is the boogeyman that is out to destroy all life on earth.

My personal opinion, yes there is great and persistent threat to society at the moment and it isn’t Climate change. It is Socialism and the warped Marxist ideologies of those on the far left who would seek to enforce their values and ideals on the the rest of us at the expense of our Freedom and right to self determination.

Kini on January 5, 2009 at 2:22 AM

I remember George Carlin (you know, that hard core conservative comedian?) once talking about environmentalists in a stand-up routine once: the gist of it was that he said greenies are not really concerned about saving the environment, only there little piece of it (scattered boos from the crowd).

He’s correct of course..why else would green activists scream about Western carbon outputs (which are actually declining, albiet in widely varying amounts) while apologising for China and India (to name a few) who refuse to abide by the same rules.

It’s the biggest flaw in thier PR campaign by far: by refusing to come out for a truely “global” solution involving ALL industrialized nations (whether advanced, developing or in between) they simply confirm thier true agenda and ensure the battle goes on. A battle that ensures continued funding for “research” into climate change effects (i.e. data gathering, best done by scientists in acadamia, and “edited” by the activitists) rather than funding for actual solutions (i.e. best done by engineers, etc, for which green groups have not the necessary job skills).

As president of the world, my first order of business would be to force Israel to comply with each and every UN resolution currently on the books. My understanding is that this is all the Arab world really wants, and then there will be peace and harmony all over the middle east and the world at large.

My only requirement will be for every single Palestinian apologist to pack up and move his/herself and family and live in Israel for at least one year. Furthermore, the Isreally government will not be allowed to conduct basic internal security steps (i.e. checks on buses, border stops, etc). After all, there will be nothing to fear anymore, right? Right?

Waterboy on January 5, 2009 at 5:59 AM

Eventually, all Lefty causes collapse under the weight of the Total Moronic Convergence (TMC). This occurs when the cause de jour gets tied to every other Lefty hobby-horse, as activists of every stripe work to link their pet cause to whatever happens to be popular at the time.

So now the Peaceniks are trying to tie themselves to the Global Warmers. Soon enough the Race Hustlers will glom on to the issue, with renewed calls for Environmental Justice, and mitigating negative environmental impacts on ethnic minorities. You know the Redistributionists will not be far behind, looking to sieze “sensitive” private property and relocate the poor from threatened locations.

The final death throes of an issue as it sinks into the TMC occurs when the Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered/Bisexual/Curious/Transexual (GLTBCT) community latches on and, last but not least, the Wiccans. When an issue is so spent as a force that it can no longer rebuff the advances of the Wiccans, you know that it is all over.

gridlock2 on January 5, 2009 at 6:07 AM

So now the Peaceniks are trying to tie themselves to the Global Warmers

I like the TMC paradox! Let us not forget of course that as the TMC values reach critical mass, so does the IIM (Inherent Ironic Mass).

As anti-Global Warming activists success increases, there is less and less world-wide funding approvals for job-creating projects in developing countries.

As the anti-”anything with chemicals” lobby experiences increased success increases, so does increased deaths in sub-saharan Africa from Malaria and such deseases…which reduces available labor, which reduces overall incomes, etc, etc etc.

In a nutshell, the world-wide grievance industry strives for an asymptotal objective, and in greater and greater numbers which seems to present them with a greater chance of success, but ultimately fullfils one goal only (and maybe thier true goal): increased awareness leading to increased funding leading to increased job opportunities for activities within the sector leading to, well, you get the point…

It’s a fact that NGO and related entities focused on the “big issues of the day” (gender, global warming, to name a few) represent one of the biggest growth industries for employment of western bourgeousis faux-intellectuals.

Prediction: He will get pinned.

Al Gore seems to want to wrestle with God.

Prediction: He will get pinned.

No. He will lull God to near-sleep with an extra-special 3.5 hour powerpoint presentation on Global Warming, and sucker punch him as He is reaching for the cofee….

Some one needs to investigate the carbon credits that he buys and sells! This is a scam!

“Children are very effective spreaders of infection-prone secretions,” mucus and saliva, said Dr. Robert W. Tolan, chief of the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. “It’s the kids that spread the infections, joyfully, as children do.”

Given how Gore’s Green Progressives deal with cattle who fart, beware what they do to solve the health risks that children present to society.

I’m a liberal…there is a problem with the earth…I a liberal have the answer…give me money and I shall solve it for you…don’t question my motives, my reason or my intellect or you shall rightly be called a Nazi…now just give me the money and we shall be square…

It’s great to be back from the Holidays, good to see the gang at HA is alive and kickin… Happy New Year friends.

Gore and his cronies, as well as a lot of so called Conservatives, are “invested” in this scam called GW. It is a money grab, a reason for “being”, a celeb cause of the week.

Unfortunatly, all too many of us are buying into this crap also, buying “green” products, businesses marketing “green” this and that… That means THE PUBLIC IS BUYING INTO THE HYPE! Where is the push back? Where are the voices yelling that this is a big hoax, a scam… Our Republican leaders? Hell NO! There are in bed with this crap too…

Smart, realistic voices, like Rush and Levin are being drowned out by the Liberal MSM, Gore constanly on TV, ect.

We need to gfight back against this grab at our wallets, we need voices AGAINST the lies and distortions…

But from whom will we see such opposition?

Mark Garnett on January 5, 2009 at 8:29 AM

I dont generally make new year’s resolutions, but this year I’m resolving to be the worst enemy the eco-marxists have. I will set my house thermostat where I want it because I’m paying the bill. I will eat as much meat as I desire. I will use incandescent bulbs until I can no longer get them. I will drive my SUV and my Monte Carlo until the government(s), local, state or federal, regulate them out of my hands.
I further resolve to live my life as the free-born American that I am.

Homo Sapien has to put back every rock that’s been moved in the last 10,000 years, and return the poor Earth back to the state it was in before we really started messing everything up. And do it now!

progressoverpeace on January 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM

I think this is the real desire of the eco-terrorist movement. To return earth to its Edenic state, even though they dont believe in Eden or its Creator. And they are convinced mankind is a pollutant that must be eliminated.

Gore left his southern baptist heritage and embraced pantheism. The he formed the church/religion of Climat Change of which he is the high priest.

“He is at work on a book on climate change and conflict”

Quote at the end of the article.

Of course he’s at work on a book. No doubt he thought long and hard on he too could climb aboard the Climate Change Money Bandwagon

Gore flunked out of divinity school, so he invented his own religion.

In my local paper there are no less than 4 “speak out” letters from readers lamenting that leaf blowers cause undue environmental damage. Leaf blowers. Like what you blow leaves with.

Al would have people burned at the stake for criticism of global warming, except the carbon created would just make things worse.

How hard the fat man must work to keep the lead blimp of false science airborne.

Envior-nut-jobs and tree-huggers are KILLING America, not GW… And we as Conservatives just sit here and let it happen… I got something these wacks can “blow”…

I’m so tired of watching the far left take and take and take with the MSM’s help… This is NOT a issues, GW is a hoax, but yet we let them rule the day, we buy into this garbage and then complain later about our reduction of freedoms and liberties. Get INVOLVED, FIGHT BACK, write your own letters, go to meetings and voice opposition to STUPID regulations and rules and “green” policies in your own City and Town…

Be as much of an activist as they are, then maybe… just maybe we can turn back the tide…

The Republicans should directly challenge the “science” behind climate change and specifically block the spending agenda of the liberals. The theory of global warming/climate change will increasingly be used as a cudgel to extract more money from citizens.

We must resist this agenda or it will consume an increasingly massive amount of wealth at a time when we are facing a long term drag on economic growth and somewhere between $50-70 trillion in unfunded govt obligations.

Rather than curb the rate of spending, expect govt to use this bogus science as the the means of bootstrapping budgetary shortfalls.

The anti-smoking litigation windfalls received by states are a perfect guide. We were told that the settlement monies would be used to offset healthcare costs caused by smoking. At least in the state I reside, I know this money has instead been thrown in the general funds account and spending has continued to go up.

Now this:

EPA ‘Cow Tax’ Could Charge $175 per Dairy Cow to Curb Greenhouse Gases

The liberals are going to use climate change as a huge windfall for their spending agenda. Once in place, like all programs, they will be nearly impossible to kill and even if the so-call science is proven to be wrong, the programs will be in place and will not be defunded.

Climate change will become the uber tax levy unless it is derailed.

Everyone with part of a brain and a little bit of scientific education knows that “man caused global warming” is a figment of some overactive imagination. Some people are getting rich off of it so it is hard to kill. I have a lot of scientific education and it is total BS. The sun is the prime mover and we are in a cooling cycle. To bad that the press and the nutcases out there can’t figure it out.
