Quote of the day

“So far none of the hijackers’ families have come forward to request the remains. Khaled Abou El Fadl, a law professor at UCLA and an authority on Islamic law, says he would be surprised if they did: ‘I’ve heard many times in the Muslim community that to claim and bury a body of one of the hijackers is to admit or accept that it was indeed those hijackers who committed 9/11.’”

Sheebe,
localmalcontent is on your side. FYI. Perhaps your comments were directed at me? I take your apologetic post at face value, that you didn’t intend to refer to Obama as a monkey. OK, never mind then. Nevertheless, as a hypothetical: IF someone in this day and age thinks it’s cool, or thinks it furthers the conservative agenda to refer to Obama, or any black person as a monkey, well, they are just plain making a big mistake. Can we agree on that?

Laura in Maryland on January 4, 2009 at 1:21 AM

We’ve forgotten 9/11. It’s true, it’s far enough in the past that it’s an academic exercise anymore. Where is the outrage?

From what is in the news, history started with the Iraq invasion. Nothing before that matters. Not even the reason.

I read an article like this and it brings me back to that horrible day. But do we hear anything about this as Bush is about to leave? No. Nothing about how Bush did his best to bring us together. This unspeakable act doesn’t matter any more. Only how we are horrible for going into Iraq. We won there, despite vicious opposition there and here.

It seems that we, as a country, want to “move on” from this. We want to move back to a 9/10 mindset. We are fooling ourselves.

JeffWeimer on January 4, 2009 at 1:22 AM

911 still brings up strong emotions for me.
I lost friends in the WTC and those that went to Iraq and Afghanistan.

It’s hard to forgive the unforgivable. But the hate has to stop.
Or we’ll die trying.

You guys are great. No… really….

Kini on January 4, 2009 at 1:23 AM

Sorry, but I had to fix that. You’re giving us E TN hillbillies a bad name.

JonRoss on January 4, 2009 at 1:06 AM

Went to the Chumash Casino, blew 40.00 but one 50.00! big spender I am. Then we hit the doughnut shop on the way home. 24 hours with the best tasty critters. I just had to get some hostility out of my heart about knowing what our Country is going to turn out to be. Does no good calling names at all. Is no secret I don’t like BO. We will see what goes. There are still ones on both sides that come in here that are good people. Can’t try to find solutions by fighting all the time. To me I call all politicians Monkey’s. I have always called them that. So, no being political correct. I don’t want to hurt feelings. Is not fun to do. I will think of something else to call them.

sheebe on January 4, 2009 at 1:26 AM

localmalcontent on January 4, 2009 at 12:53 AM

I sure wish all this selective moral outrage was more apparent during the last eight years.
If it had been, then maybe the people that are so upset about Obama’s middle name Hussien being said or reference’s to monkey’s might be more credible.

I believe their are well over 400,000 hits and reference’s to Bush being called a monkey or chimphitler or all the other really intelligent things that the “smart ones” are so sensitive about now:

Welcome to the “George W. Bush or Chimpanzee” webpage. This is a little project I decided to start once I realized how much George W. Bush looks like a chimpanzee.

http://www.bushorchimp.com/

Or how about the super intelligent shouts and pleas for the ASSASSINATION of President Bush:

Assassination fascination
By Michelle Malkin

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/06/04/assassination-fascination/

scroll through my assassination chic posts and you’ll see they’re dominated by stories of liberals imagining their ideological opponents gunned down, decapitated, or otherwise snuffed out.

You don’t get to act the fool like this for 8 years and then turn around and start demanding respect.
The best way to get respect is to earn it,something liberals are light years away from achieving.

Sadly, I think you are correct. What I fear is the resolve in the left to confront it the way Bush did. The lefts Analyzing why they hate us was all wrong by their assessment. It’s not poverty, it’s not imperialism, it is their ideology.

Islamofascism is such a body of doctrinal myth, etc., with reference to some political and social plan, as that of religious and political fascism, along with the devices for putting it into operation. Such as mass murder.

You know (heheh),

We’ve been fighting and joking around and drinking in this thread. However I have to say that I think of those who have died in this War On Islamists often and I pray for their souls and the ones they left behind.

And, having a loved one who is a warrior in this war and still living, I don’t know how those who don’t believe (don’t have faith) that there is something higher that human beings can stand it and still function normally. And I can’t even begin to imagine how those who have lost a loved one so horribly as happened on 9/11 don’t shake their fist at God every day. (Heck I shake my fist at Him now sometimes, spoiled brat that I am.)

I guess I’m saying that we who believe in the God of Abraham might want to take time out to pray for those who are still mourning their fallen.

Kini on January 4, 2009 at 1:55 AM

That all depends on your definition of “successful,” and how it pertains to Chicago Jesus and his campaign rhetoric. Do we want Chicago Jesus successful on gun control, on wiping out the coal power plant industry, on creating his civilian force (with a budget rivalling, if not greater than, the military), on reducing the military capability of the United States, on pushing government policy based on global warming climate change, etc? I, for one, do not want Chicago Jesus successful in his aspirations for this country as based upon his campaign rhetoric and spotty voting record (voting present doesn’t count as voting). YMMV.

RickZ on January 4, 2009 at 3:00 AM

the koran is like a mechanical “chokepear”

once you swallow it, you’re stuck with it.

Robbers in the Renaissance era used a vicious little number to induce their victims to cough up ‘ransom’ money. A pear-sized, key-opening torture tool, that had spikes which came out when a key was turned, changing the smooth metal ‘pear’ into a little ‘mace’-like object. The extortionists would grab a well-to-do ‘customer’ off the street, stuff the device into his mouth and ‘open’ the spikes with a turn of the key. The sufferer would then have to ‘buy’ back the key in order to “close”/withdraw the spikes into the “chokepear”, or starve to death.
what to do with the “remains”?….you flush them like the pieces of shit they were.

If you didn’t have any racist intent in your use of the word “monkeys” then whats the problem?

Some people may have misinterpreted your innocuous non-racist comment through their own fault but you apologise “in advance” anyway in case their feelings were hypothetically hurt by their own erroneous misinterpretation?

I don’t think it helps anyone, black or white, to encourage hypersensitivity to racial offense. Should the word “monkey” be removed from the dictionary in order to prevent future misunderstandings?

I don’t intentionally hurt feelings. A person was bothered by the remark. So yes I felt the need to be human, and let them know I didn’t see the comment like that. But still, it is nicer to be civil. Do you get that?

I’m all for civillity. It was proper of you to let the person know that your remark was not a pejorative racist comment but you shouldn’t apologise for other people’s misinterpretations of your words. Imagine if George Bush were held to that standard vis-a-vis leftists.

It was proper of you to let the person know that your remark was not a pejorative racist comment but you shouldn’t apologise for other people’s misinterpretations of your words.

This is well and true. Here’s the rub. Many if not most people do not have the stones to admit when they meant to be offensive. That is why so many offensive remarks are veiled in nuance and double-speak.

This is precisely why I tend not to filter my most foolish…and often egregious remarks. I would hate to be mistaken for being civil when I meant to be a bastard.

If more bigots said what they meant and stood behind those statements, more fair-minded people would be free to share in the language monopolized by bigots.

I call each my kids “monkey” “stinky monkey” or “the stinkiest monkey” everyday. Their bloodline is as mixed up as a veggie breakfast burrito. If some other person chose to call them any simian derivative, I would be offended. That sad bit of complexity is based on the simple fact that no matter how mixed they are, some people will always see the black part of them first.

I think monkeys are great animals. So are many bitches. However, calling a black man a monkey is offensive. Calling a woman a bitch is offensive. Adults get this and live life accordingly.

Oh yeah…fuck terrorists and that flesh vessel they called a body. I hope their trip to the other side was taken on an ethereal SS Minnow.

Then give them your bit about how “monkey” doesn’t necessarily have racist connotations. Tell them it’s all just a “misinterpretation”. A little misunderstanding. Then come back to Hot Air blog and report your findings.

Where did the molten iron pouring from the towers, (pre collapse), come from? How did a diesel fire cause a 47 story building, not hit by a plane, to collapse perfectly within it’s foundation? I am not saying there was a govt conspiracy but these are legitimate questions, aren’t they? How come we can’t get any video of the Pentagon impact? Certainly there were many cameras recording the event. Why no answers?

ronsfi on January 4, 2009 at 5:47 AM

Ronsfi,
Those questions have been answered OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. The fact is, idiot conspiracy theorists like yourself don’t want to listen to the answers, and you do not possess an iota of simple logic, or common sense to answer them for yourself. You are a hopeless shill and someone who should be completely ignored because you lack the most basic skills for engaging in a debate or recognizing a simple truth. You are a lunatic, and really should get some help from a mental health professional.

plsandthku,

Here’s a little experiment for you. Next time you are in Texas, walk downtown in any city on any city street and start calling President Bush a monkey. Insist there is no terrorist threat, and tell them that Islam is just a peaceful religion which preaches telling only the Truth to its own adherents and lying to everyone else about how innocent its adherents are. Then give them your bit about how “monkey” doesn’t necessarily have hostile or offensive connotations. Tell them it’s all just a “misinterpretation”. A little misunderstanding. Then come back to Hot Air blog me and report your findings.

PS, since most downtown areas, even in Texas, are filled with Dhimmicrats who feel the same way I summarized above about the current President (and Islam) as you feel about Sen Obambi being supposedly called a monkey (instead of the baby deer stuck in the headlights that he is)….. offended, perhaps you will find that even in the heart of Bush country, you’ll never be threatened for expressing stupid yet heartfelt beliefs about good Men.

This is because those who dwell in reality know that you don’t win by losing wars. You don’t keep people safe by knuckling under to terrorist demands. You don’t call Christians, even evangelical Christians, and Jews evil people, and yet act surprised when they feel Muslims are persecutionists of the first degree. And you don’t show intelligence to Americans when you deny there is a vast and dangerous threat to the lives of Americans ANYWHERE from the existence of Islam, and continue to insist, despite all evidence to the contrary, that it is a great religion in this world, and the only force for good that there is.

When you can walk a mile in your opponent’s shoes and then claim that he was wrong to do what he did, or to call the current President of the US a “chimperor”, and insist it is a fair and true label, then I’ll listen to you……. Right before I smack the living crap out of you for lying.

Ahh just like clockwork. All hat and no cowboy. What are the answers you hateful, Koolaid guzzling, easily manipulated, soft skull? They’ve all been answered? Do tell. You certainly don’t know the answers. Nor do you know my opinions you pussy. You just spout what you think is cool because you have no will, nor thought, nor personality of your own. You are nothing but a Kos Kid in Republican Drag.

Not all conservative blog readers are the overwrought blowhards who promote violence or antagonism towards Dems. Most of us simply state our arguments using sane, fact-based language and context. Hardly all Dems call bush a chimp or any other rude name. Many simply disagree with his policies and/or values. It’s illogical to compare those Dems to make to someone who directly correlates a black man with a monkey.

Your logic leads us around a Mobius strip. You know that; we all do. You sound like a person who appreciates logic. Why misappropriate the application thereof?

The Race Card on January 4, 2009 at 7:24 AM

uh, subsunk, I basically agree with everything you said, (except the part about smacking me!) You’ve mistaken me for a liberal. If you read the thread, you will see I’m simply saying that it’s not cool to call black people monkeys. For exactly the same reason it’s not cool to say all the horrible things that are said about President Bush, whom I support, or Texans, Sarah Palin etc. There are so many things to disagree about but I figured we could AT LEAST agree that calling black people monkeys is not cool. It’s also nit cool to call Sarah Palin a c***. The horrible behavior displayed by the left is NO EXCUSE to stoop to their level, or justification to act like a lout. The idea is to be BETTER than them. So that was a good rant but you’re preachin’ to the choir.

Ronsfi,
I’m ignoring you because you are a conspiracy theorist, and hopeless, by definition.

pleaseandthankyou on January 4, 2009 at 7:29 AM

Of course you do. You have no answers. So you cop out. Coward. Clear example of the worst this country has to offer and what needs to be corrected in the GOP. Such mindless hateful arrogance is what drove us into the gutter. I made no assertion of fact. I intimated no conclusions. I claimed no conspiracy. I simply postulated some questions. Just questions. What bothers me is that these questions must not be asked? Why not? Why are they off limits. Why is it de rigeur for some Kloset Klansman to spout personal insults and regurgitated jargon in response to scientific inquiry of the most significant event of the century? How did this person become so programmed that just the questions alone trigger this predictable pro forma response?

ronsfi on January 4, 2009 at 7:46 AM

Also, Moron, “ronsfi, I’m ignoring you” is what we call an Oxymoron. See you can’t address me and ignore me at the same oh guardian debate and master of “simple truth”.

kanda on January 4, 2009 at 8:04 AM

So it is kind of interesting the molten metal pouring from the towers. How did that happen? The truthers are claiming Thermite which leaves a molten iron as a by product of combustion. This is a strong argument put forth by reasonably respectable academics. Now I see no reason to deny the official version but I still want answers to these questions. I’m open to all theories. But this is a tough one. There are some other points that need answering too. the 911 commission report is not adequate it seems. I just what to know.

(note to Trolls) “Yer a stoopid Commie yuh hippie faigit!” is not a strong argument.

Ronsfi, vis-a-vis the molten metal that was reported as having dripped down to the basement before collapse. If you should ever find out how kerosene, at normal atmospheric pressure, can melt said metal, would you please let me know? I would be most appreciative of the increase in knowledge.

What are you talking about?

Oh s*** , here we go…

pleaseandthankyou on January 4, 2009 at 8:21 AM

OldEnglish on January 4, 2009 at 8:13 AM

I know but it’s there. Dude. There is footage showing molten metal pouring from the building in like a fountain before the collapse. There is footage from both towers. It’s clearly molten metal and a lot of it. Also there are eyewitness accounts freely acknowledged by rescue and cleanup workers onsite and also lumps of molten metal pulled from the site. OK fine. Where did it come from. Perhaps we may never know but what really disturbs me is that we can’t even ask the damned question! Every Billy Bob Cuznhumpher thinks that they then have carte blanche to kill your or summin. Anyway, there are some arguments put forth by the other side that are well reasoned, presented seriously and deserve to be addressed. Let’s answer them. I am curious because I can’t answer them.

Well you know at first there were a lot of crackpots and it was laughable so that’s where I left it and I was onboard with Bush and behind the troops and all. But after Bush went Socialist and the GOP sold out I happened upon an interview with Bowtie Boy Tucker Carlson about a BYU professor and some work he has been doing on why the towers fell and was prepared to be as big an asshat as pleaseandthankyou (as I had always been). Tucker shut him down without a fair hearing to put it mildly and my recent experience with the media durring the election caused me to want to at least hear what the guy had to say so I swallowed hard and looked up him up on the interwebs and found some questions that I could not answer. So now I seek the answers. I fully anticipated being set upon by the Kos types but hey, I enjoy a good flame war as much as the next guy. My questions are in a previous post and I would love any links or leads or what have you that will enlighten me. But I am a critical thinker and I will ask these questions without reserve and accept the answers no matter where they lead. I drink no mans koolaid.
