A Jewcy photo-caption opportunity
posted at 4:00 pm on December 31, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

This is making the rounds this week, from LGF to Right Wing News to Q&O, and what better way to end the year but with a photo-caption open thread that relies on the idiocy of protestors? This comes from a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Manhattan on Sunday, where participants wanted to show both their intelligence and their tolerance. The latter can be found in the small print just above “Juice”, where the protestor managed to spell (Zionist) correctly. It’s a good thing he clarified, because I had a couple of alternate takes on what this meant before I expanded the picture:
- He’s unhappy with the sentence OJ Simpson received in Las Vegas.
- Tropicana was really behind the 9/11 attacks.
- Got Milk?
Feel free to contribute your best caption, and have a safe and happy New Year celebration tonight! We’re still waiting for Granddaughter #2 to make her debut, so with a little luck, perhaps we’ll ring in the new year at the maternity ward tonight!
Update: You’ve laughed at the picture — now get the T-shirt! (via Jammie Wearing Fool)
Update II: Robert Spencer says Pamela Geller had the pic first, so let’s put up a link to Atlas Shrugs. He has another “Death to All Juice” pic and says that the wording is deliberate so as to give the protestors “plausible deniability” from being pegged as genocidists. If so, that makes them even more foolish and comical than first thought.

Work on that English!
Somehow I do not think he is referring to O.J.
You should say “Da Jooooooooooooooos” not “The Juice.”
Better yet, hold that sign up on the Gaza Israel border. The IDF needs some target practice.

The sign says:
“Death to All (Zionist) Juice”
He’s clearly calling for jihad against beverages manufactured by Jewish-owned companies.
Seriously, if you’re going to make an ass of yourself by calling for the genocide of a people, at least spellcheck your sign.
amerpundit on December 31, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Funny because jews is easier to spell than juice.
BTW, is this not spreading hatred, a crime. I know in Canada a sign like this would get the protester in jail. It is illegal to “wish death” upon any ethnic group. Do you guys in the states have the same laws, or is this legal?

He’s clearly calling for jihad against beverages manufactured by Jewish-owned companies.Tropicana is owned by Pepsi Co, and we all know that Pepsi is a Jewish conspiracy, (pay each penny to save israel) so maybe he just wants to play it safe and kill all juice on the market.

Here in the US our speech is protected under the consitution regardless of how offensive, as this sign is.
Also, we don’t want Canada’s “star chamber” to dictate what is hate speech and what isn’t, like aht happenend to the publisher (can’t think of his name right now) who made the mistake of writing the truth about fascist Islam in Canada.
Here’s wishing everyone at HA a very Happy, Safe, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!!

As usual a little fact checking proves first assumptions are wrong. Muslims are always good and reasonable, Christians are the bad ones.
The man holding the sign is not a Muslim but a Palestinian Christian and a Nazirite who take seriously the biblical proscriptions against eating or drinking products from the grapevine. He is actually calling for a boycott of Manichevitz.

You guys in the States got freedom. In Canada, this is way over the line into illegal territory. Of course, whether or not a muslim would be prosecuted under this law is questionable. I know if I held up that sign, the police would be right over to pick me up.

Actually, it was not LGF, but Pamela Geller who first posted the picture. She put it up at Atlas Shrugs via her friend redsquirrel.
And here, from Jihad Watch, is further information on the photo — it is not just a comical case of illiteracy.
Robert Spencer on December 31, 2008 at 4:46 PM
I don’t think it would land you in jail in Canada. Ezra Levant has a recent post about a HR case in Quebec where a book (by a Muslim) that called for the death of Jews and homosexuals was deemed not to violate the code. Now if it said “Death to (Icelandic) Muslins” (I know) that would be a different matter.
I think this sign is a clear indication that the follow responsible for the sign is suffering from Vitamin C deficiency and needs medical help. Preferably in a hospital in Gaza.

Before buying the t-shirt, please note that this was not a silly mistake. It is a thinly veiled genocidal statement.
But like so much about the jihad, that escapes most observers, even those who consider themselves informed.
Anyway, caveat emptor.
Robert Spencer on December 31, 2008 at 5:00 PM
Robert,
While it is vitally important that we know and understand what the enemy is up to…
…one of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal is humor and ridicule.
They think they’re being smart and clever…
…so what better way to react to that by mocking them?
Religious_Zealot on December 31, 2008 at 5:02 PM
I don’t think that protester wrote ‘zionist’. I looks like someone else wrote it.

portlandon on December 31, 2008 at 5:05 PM
Religious Zealot:
Mock them, sure. Make fun of them. Ridicule them. The devil cannot abide being mocked, and neither can jihadists.
But is wearing a tshirt emblazoned with their own slogan a way to ridicule them? I suspect that in that case the only ones laughing will be the genocidal jihadists.
And to mock them for illiteracy when this wasn’t an example of illiteracy is just one more small example of how ignorance of the enemy can lead us up blind alleys. Let’s mock them for something they’re really doing, not something they’re not actually doing except in the eyes of those who have not cared to inform themselves about these matters.
Robert Spencer on December 31, 2008 at 5:06 PM

Ridicule is great.
But the problem is that even the words of the slogan on a tshirt minus the knuckledragging jihadi wannabe isn’t so good.
I’d like to laugh. In fact it did make me laugh. After all, I was the one who brought it to everyone’s attention in the first place. But thinking about it after knowing from whence it came, I’d prefer to laugh about it in another time and place. Not now.
