Video: Greg Jarrett cuts interview with Palestinian apologist short

posted at 2:45 pm on December 30, 2008 by Allahpundit

Not as sweet as it should have been. Nonsense like this demands snarling, Megyn Kelly-style pugnacity or even a full-on finger-pointing O’Reilly hissyfit, not the polite disdain Jarrett musters. Frankly, he’d have been within his rights to stop the interview after she dropped the detail about Israel’s brief incursion into Gaza after the election without explaining why they were there. But as palate cleansers go, it’s still cool, clean, and refreshing.

She’s a former PLO spokesman, too. Of course.

Why give this Hamas terrorist bee-atch any legitimacy through an interview in the first place?

Fletch54 on December 30, 2008 at 2:50 PM

THANK YOU Greg Jarrett!!! I can only wish there were more reporters like him out there.

Lance Murdock on December 30, 2008 at 2:52 PM

I agree with Fletch54. Why even invite someone on your show that you know is going to lie and distort to a news program and then cut them short? Either let them spout their propaganda or don’t invite them on.

ABOUT TIME. I had to listen to her diatribe on Fox news over the weekend and couldn’t figure out why they were letting her talk.

Skywise on December 30, 2008 at 2:56 PM

Is she also in support of the fatwa against “All Juice”?

/sarc

Seriously though…..

The Al-Azhar ‘Ulama Front, a body comprising radical clerics within Al-Azhar who oppose its official line, has issued a fatwa banning Egyptian troops from defending the border with Gaza from Palestinians fleeing the fighting.

According to the fatwa, the land of the Muslims is a single unit, and there must be no fighting for borders demarcated by the infidels.

The background to the fatwa is an incident of cross-border shooting in which a Palestinian and an Egyptian soldier were killed; the fatwa depicts the dead Palestinian as a “martyr” and the Egyptian soldier as the aggressor.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on December 30, 2008 at 2:58 PM

Damn those dirty joooooos for defending themselves against random, deadly, and on-going attacks of innocent people. Jarrett should have told that piece of work to put on her burqa and shut the $#%@ up! Hamas is just a bunch of murderous thugs. No excuses!

I could not disagree with you more. Bring them on to show the world exactly what these cowards are all about. Greg did great by cutting the interview off after he rebutted her with personal facts therefore exposing her lies and agenda. Good job.

Wade on December 30, 2008 at 3:04 PM

She’s a former PLO spokesman, too. Of course.

Does Fox News not have people to check these things? The segment should have started with this, and ended very shortly afterward.

“You’re completely misrepresenting the facts, but let’s move on…” What kind of reporting is that? If she’s a shyster, then why the Hell are you giving her free time on live TV. Just let her make a prepared statement, fact-check every single word of it, and then stop the tape every three seconds and give a correction.

Greg did great by cutting the interview off after he rebutted her with personal facts therefore exposing her lies and agenda. Good job.

At most he said, “You are completely misrepresenting the facts,” and “That’s not true.” Frankly, that’s a weak rebuttal in my eyes. He really didn’t hit with any facts. You can call somebody a liar but it’s better when you back up your claim with facts on why they are liars.

terryannonline on December 30, 2008 at 3:11 PM

“It’s important to note that these rockets [fired by Hamas at Israel] do not have explosive heads…”

Why is this important? Is there some kind of legal justification that indemnifies terrorists for launching rockets that are slightly less deadly than regular rockets? Oh law, how fickle and inscrutable art thou!

Hey, AP as our resident lawyer: Can you cite a case where a lawyer won by telling the judge his client was justified in shooting his cousin in the face with .38 because the gun was loaded with blanks?

Unreal, that terrorist mouth-piece had the nerve to say the missiles the rabid Islamo-terrorists fire into Israel don’t have warheads so that somehow makes it “ok” and proves Israelis are the villians!

Yep, never ceases to amaze me how the Islamo-fascist terrorist are always the victim and any nation that defends themselves from these animals are the villians…that right there is the definition of ABSURD!

Fox may have cut her off, but the BBC is letting her spout her lies every hour, unchallenged. Earlier she was talking about “starving” Gazans – the presenter didn’t even question the claim. In general, the BBC presenters let the Palestinian spokespeople have their say, posing just the odd question, while any Israeli spokesperson gets the third degree.

And their reporters keep talking about the disparity in casualties, but never about the difference in intent – if Hamas could kill 1,000 Israelis every day it would, while the IDF is trying to minimise civilian casualties, and while any civilian deaths are regrettable, roughly 60 dead civilians and 300 dead terrorists is a pretty good ratio.

Remember – the only thing the Palestinians love more than dead Israelis is dead Palestinians, for their propaganda value. And if they’re kids, so much the better.

Go Israel!

I think he couldve been more forceful with her…but I still enjoyed it.

becki51758 on December 30, 2008 at 3:32 PM

I don’t think he did very well. As others have pointed out, he didn’t rebut anything she was saying. He just cut her off.

It also seemed like he was most upset at her claiming he’d never been to Gaza….rather than any of the other garbage she was spouting.

Still, it’s always refreshing when you get to here the word “terrorist” on the nightly news as opposed to some euphemism for them.

Just theater.

Moral indignation plays well with the choir. Did anyone at Fox not believe it would end this way. It is practically choreographed.

Does anyone not expect Barney Frank and Bill “the falafel” O’Reilly to get into a shouting match? It allows everyone to play to their base and get points among their constituents.

I bet Megyn Kelly’s numbers have gone up significantly since she began eviscerating opponents on camera.

moxie_neanderthal on December 30, 2008 at 3:50 PM

Heh. Why not ask former PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi to come on while they’re at it?

Anyhoo, I think the top producers at FNC are on vacation and the clueless dilettantes are at play. The other day Fox & Friends had the head of the SEIU on, extolling the virtues of the Orwellian Employee Free Choice Act, with Barbara Comstock offering a weak and largely uninformed response.

I agree – she may look like a hottie, but keep in mind two things:

1) Think about how bad she probably smells. Arabs are generally not known for their bathing habits. And all the spices in that Mediterranean food tends to “come out of the pores.”

2) She would kill you just as soon as look at you (although maybe that enhances her appeal, you know, some people find that “danger” factor irresistible)

UltimateBob on December 30, 2008 at 3:54 PM

I like how Jarrett pulled kind of a Jerry Springer/Maury/etc. response at the end with a “You don’t know me” response.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on December 30, 2008 at 3:55 PM

I just saw this at UrbanGrounds. It’s a quote from Gabriel Malor at Ace of Spades:

It’s been said before but it is worth repeating a thousand times: if Hamas, Hezbollah, and most of the Arab states (and Iran) laid down their weapons tomorrow and forgot about their plans to dissolve Israel, there would be peace in the Middle East. The Israelis could forget about the fences and the Palestinians might one day have something approximating a Western standard of living. On the other hand, if Israel laid down its weapons tomorrow, the country would be utterly annihilated, the Israelis killed to the last man, woman, and child.

What I really don’t understand, and GregJarrett did not mention, is that Hamas-holes spew rhetoric like ‘Kill the Jews’ and ‘We will die fighting the Jews’ with pride. Then, when they do die fighting the Jews, they complain. Shouldn’t these Hamas-holes be thanking the Israelis for giving them their 72 raisins? I mean, sheesh, you can never please a muslim.

No, they should have a segment with some hosebag like this terrorist mouthpiece and then have the Israel mouthpiece.

– There will be peace when the Palestinian begin to love their own children as much as they hate us.

moxie_neanderthal on December 30, 2008 at 3:50 PM

The problem is that eviscerating them on camera is the only way to get people to realize that they’re lying. The problem with Jarrett’s method is that, while polite, it leaves the viewer with the impression that he just “couldn’t respond to facts” and so cut the interview off. Per the old Colbert joke, “Reality has a well known liberal bias” etc.

The only way to counter that is by, basically, demonstrating how your opponent is a lying bag of worthless excrement.

Bleed_thelizard on December 30, 2008 at 6:06 PM

Greg Jerrett is superb and this is a nice example of better media prevailing over misinformation.

Here Jerrett did not have to prove her wrong. Rather, he did not let her factual errors go untreated and exposed at least one mistake, albeit the minor one re: his visiting Gaza. Like a good attorney, this raised doubts in the minds of the jury (i.e., me).

Maybe more of our media should take a lesson from this, and like a legal trail, approach it as a war of ideas.
