Assad calls for end to “massacre” in Gaza at meeting with … Arlen Specter

posted at 4:18 pm on December 30, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Weasel Zippers, he’s a “regular visitor” to Syria, don’tcha know. So regular, it seems, that he felt obliged to keep this particular appointment even though (a) the supreme leader of Hamas lives right there in Damascus and (b) the situation in Gaza made it an irresistible propaganda opportunity for Assad. Didn’t he expect it?

Maybe not. Remember, this is the guy who defended the amnesty bill based on how many people at his gym liked it.

President Bashar al-Assad, receiving US Republican Senator Arlen Specter on Tuesday, underlined the necessity for halting the Israeli massacres which are being committed against the unarmed Palestinian people, lifting the unjust siege on them, and opening all the crossings permanently…

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister, Walid Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor, Butheina Shaaban, and [Specter's] accompanying delegation.

That’s from Syrian state media, so don’t get caught up in the question of what words were actually used between them. Assad knew what press release he wanted to issue and he knew what photo he wanted to go with it, and darned if he didn’t get what he wanted. Exit question: Second look at Chris Matthews? He’d happily go to Damascus too, of course, but at least he’d do it as a Democrat.

LOL, “unarmed Palestinian citizens.”

I don’t even think Assad himself buys that line.

Was Arlen wearing a head scarf?

BKennedy on December 30, 2008 at 4:21 PM

Syria and Egypt keep the Palestinians hemmed in their pen of chaos, just like Israel do. There’s no moral high ground here

and why is Specter over there? to misquote our President-elect, “we only have one secstate”

Seriously. Looks like Specter is threading on self-hating territory right now. Doesn’t he know if he was some random average Joe Jew he’d be tortured than killed. Thanks for looking out for Jewish interests Specter. A$$hat.

Oh that’s rich. How many of his own countrymen has Baby Assad, and Papa Assad before him, massacred? Thousand? Tens of thousands? Can Hitler be reached for comment?

I plan to do some serious RINO hunting in 2010. I have never actively worked for a campaign before but I will do whatever I can to get rid of this POS.

President Bashar al-Assad, receiving US RINO Senator Arlen Specter

Specter is likely aligned with Democrats on his Syrian agenda. I doubt that “Republican” matters in the press release unless things go badly and he’s the new scape goat for his Democrat “friends” to slay. Ask McCain.

All of the Democratic-hate-Bush-for-loving-Arabic-Muslims angst is now supposed to instantly convert into Democrats-always-love-Arab-terrorists-forever-no-matter-what?

I refute that American/MidEastern relations are worse now than they were when Bush took office initially. Bush had no problems getting along with anyone at first as he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt (including Putin’s soul-window eyes) playing Mr. Nice Guy to the hilt. Palestine always got the benefit of the doubt against Israel’s interests, but that didn’t ever help anything improve. Back then, Libya, Iraq and Iran would have NOTHING GOOD to do with America. At least NOW Libya and Iraq have “better” dealings with the USA through Gibson’s “Bush Doctrine”.

To claim things are worse is groundless. Since the Iranian Shah was deposed, the relations are always tense at best, regardless of who is in office. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama AND Hillary together are not going to win Islam’s affection for the USA, not even if you toss al-Gore and his invention of the internet into the bet.

Spector is on a secret intelligence gathering mission for the CIA like that (what’s his name) Wilson dude. You know, the ambassador dude who’s married to Valerie Plame the CIA spook. Ya know?

/ROFLMAO sorry, lost my composure there.

Anyway, when he gets back and makes his report, the CIA will have some options, and some good intell to show Obama.

That way the new administration will be able to intervene and bring an end to the violence in the middle east. Ya’know what I mean, Vern?

I don’t think you can put the words intelligence and Arlen Spector in the same sentence.
This RINO TOOL needs to stick to worrying about secretly taping football practices.

Hey Specter, foreign affairs is the province of the President (except in the case of the incoming Secretary of State, where foreign affairs is the province of the SoS husband.)

rbj on December 30, 2008 at 5:36 PM

I think you are being too harsh on Specter for reasons that have nothing to do with this incident. In fact, I would call this Weasel Zipper item dishonest propaganda. Arlen Specter is a strong supporter of Israel, and nowhere in the article is he quoted as having said anything stupid.

Is it really that slow of a news day to have to resort to this?

thuja on December 30, 2008 at 5:39 PM

This is a perfect example of why getting 60 Senators was not a big deal for the Demos. With Specter, McCain and Susan Collins they only needed 57.

Democrats for all intents and purposes have a filibuster majority right now.

And for those of you freaking out about Chris Matthews becoming the next Senator from PA….would it be any worse than Specter? I can’t possibly see how.

You know, I’d forgotten Specter was Jewish. What in the world is he doing making regular trips to Syria and giving Assad these photo-ops? Why is it the libs think that talking with evil will make evil decide to be good?

AL DURA WAS NOT MURDERED BY THE IDF.

JENINGRAD WAS NOT A HOLOCAUST.

NEITHER IS THIS COUNTER-ATTACK ION HAMAS.

THOSE WHO COMPARE THIS TO A HOLOCAUST OR CALL IT A MASSACRE ARE LIARS AND DUPES WHO SERVE A DISGUSTING TOTALITARIAN IDEOLOGY.

THIS IS WHAT THE PAKISTANI GOVERNMENT SHOUOLD BE DOING IN THE FATA. AND THE AFGHAN GIOVT DOING IN ITS RENEGADE/TALIBAN REGIONS.

WE MUST DEFEAT THE ENEMY.

TO DO THAT WE MUST USE FORCE. LETHAL FORCE.

UNTIL THEY SURRENDER UNCONSITIONALLY.

Specter has always been suspect. He represented this bad human as defense counsel before he ran for public office.

PA or MN, toss up for biggest knuclehead state status as far as I am concerned.

I lived in Philly when he was DA, he still has his home on Warden Drive in the East Falls section (around the corner from the Kelly estate) dont’cha know? I remember he never gave out candy on Halloween. We lived in the housing project in East Falls and always went to the rich neigborhood to trick or treat, but never anyone at the Specter house. The staff at the Kelly house always gave us lots of stuff. Yeah, he was an a$$wipe then too!! I had forgotten about the Einhorn thing though, what a creep. EW

Will Arlen Spectre PUH-LEEEZE stop calling himself a Republican?

He’s drifted full on into Nanny Pelosi, Jim McDermit, etc…territory. Let his cowardly ass be counted amongst the rest of the Dem appeasers and scumbags.
