I don’t believe all Muslims are so morally twisted that they are not repulsed and disgusted by this, just as we are.

I have conversed with Muslims. Not all of them are entirely convinced by the Islamic story. Some of them can see that it just doesn’t add up.

So why don’t they abandon Islam?

The Islam meme is very strong. To overcome it we need to fill those minds with something(s) much stronger and better.

Western society in general is not going to draw Muslims away from Islam by itself.

Just as we focus on the evil of Islam, so they tend to notice the evil of our societies: the lewdness, drunkeness, fornication, disrespect of elders, and so on.

To reach these Muslims we need to somehow show them that there is a branch of Western society that opposes both sets of evil and that has better answers to the deeper questions.

There are plenty of doubt filled Muslims. Their ideology offers them dogma, not love, not healing. They know rules, but not joy. They know fear, but not hope.

Muslims can and do abandon Islam. I have no idea what percentage do so each year but it does happen.

How, practically, do we make build bridges that will encourage and allow them to cross from the dark side and then to stay on the bright side?

Our governments cannot and will not do this.
We, conservatives, need to do this.
We need to offer Muslims a new place to belong, a new community to replace the Islamic community.
We need to be proactive to bring change in the same way that liberals (and Muslims for that matter) have been proactive in obtaining their goals.

Practical suggestions please?

Never ever happen for two reasons.
The powerful first world left agrees 100% with the goals of Islam.
The first world Right are to gutless to even fight the Left that is eroding first world societies.
 
The only way to help the rest of the world is to save ourselves first. Sadly I don’t see that happening in my lifetime.

I think this is the most astute comment yet. I have tried to articulate this very thing…in vain!
There just needs to be a national purging. I realize this sounds extreme, but, mosques need to be closed, or, at least monitored. In smaller states, it might be helpful to expel card carrying muslims and stop immigration totally, particularly from islamic nations. This is horrible for, say, Christians seeking asylum from these persecutory places, but, some concessions could be made. This would mean favoring one religion over another…something which will never happen. It would mean forgetting the notion that there are moderates, at least for now, and take drastic measures to remove them. Could they even hate us any more than they do? Remove the enemy from within and fight against them until they are gone. Just more pie in the sky thinking from me, anyway…

If Islam were quarantined and all avid Mohammedans repatriated, if all aid to Islam were totally cut, if international movement of Muslims were curtailed, If a surgical insertion of adequate force were to take the oil fields… in no time Islam would not even be able to rise to it’s knees to beg to know what are our wishes.

Then you need to make a choice. Leave them to rot with their perfect religion and golden age of wisdom or actively attack the ideology by removing texts and clerics from the society. Close all mosques and rewrite their constitutions to specifically proscribe sharia. It would be a huge task but there need be no holocaust involved. The reward would be true freedom for humanity, the freedom from being a Muslim and the freedom from being oppressed by Muslims. It would be the greatest victory for humanity in known history.

Until I can hear the outrage from “non-terrorist” muslims about this crap, I can only come to the conclusion that all muslims must be terrorists. Seems the only people outraged are the non muslims.

I think that we need to understand that this is unacceptable death to us but acceptable to most if not all within the grip of Islam. Those children will be mourned but over time revered for their contribution and commitment to Islam.

Until I can hear the outrage from “non-terrorist” muslims about this crap, I can only come to the conclusion that all muslims must be terrorists. Seems the only people outraged are the non muslims.

The mythical moderate Muslims are too busy being outraged over such injustices as having to remove their headscarves before entering a courtroom to care about a few kids being blown up.
A Danish cartoon? The entire Muslim population is in an uproar. 14 dead schoolchildren?….crickets chirping…

Ah yes, the mythological “moderate Muslim.” Just like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny I too used to believe moderate Muslims actually existed, that is until I grew up and realized none actually exist…

Unfortunately, the research I’ve seen indicates that the more educated Muslims are, the more they support jihad (check out some of the research by Britain’s Centre for Social Cohesion as only one example). The September 11th terrorists were educated and from middle-class backgrounds, the Glasgow airport terrorist was a doctor, etc. The problem is Islamic ideology itself.
