Video: The more you know about Caroline…

Silly fun from Cuffy Meigs. The audio’s no outlier, either: Try counting how many times “you know” appears in the transcript of her chat with NY1 on Friday. My favorite soundbite featured no fewer than three utterances in the span of 20 words.
There is a serious point here, actually. Slowly but surely, right down to her verbal tic, she’s proving she’s not ready for primetime as a national politician. (Cf. the left and SNL goofing on Palin’s tortured syntax.) With all the money and cronyism behind her, the only way she could blow this appointment is by making herself seem ridiculous — and darned if she’s not doing it. I’m amazed at how much skepticism, if not outright disdain, crept into the tone of the new NYT story on their interview with Caroline, culminating in Princess getting irritated and asking the reporters whether they’ve ever thought of writing for a women’s magazine. That was last night; this morning brings Michael Goodwin, Pulitzer-winner from the Daily News, finally acknowledging that the empress has no clothes. And not being real polite about it:
That truth is that Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn’t deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her.
Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure. Because she is the only survivor of that dreamy time nearly 50 years ago, she remains an iconic figure. But in the last few days, her mini-campaign has proved she has little to offer New Yorkers except her name…
Even the one job she had in public life has come into question. Apparently on the basis of a chance meeting with New York’s schools chancellor at a party on Martha’s Vineyard, she signed on as a part-time fund-raiser. How much she raised and how much she worked have been challenged, but no matter. The point is that this self-described advocate for the public schools did not send her children to them.
Enough.
Limousine liberals are a dime a dozen, and carpetbaggers are nothing new in New York. And with the social scene constantly churning out the old for the next new thing, there’s no reason middle-aged dilettantes can’t also try their hand at politics.
They just can’t start in the Senate.
Likelihood of her appointment 10 days ago, per InTrade: 85 percent. Today: 53.5, down four points from yesterday.

I hope she gets “Palined” by the press. what’s good for the goose…

I guess by comparison she makes Obama look like a time-tested veteran.

Yeah, but does she have a vision of hope for change and transformation of the world? Thats all that really matters

She was never an iconic figure for me. None of the Kennedys were/are. Not even Bobby or JFK.

I wonder if someone might do an “um” version of this video.
That was hilarious.

She won’t get “palined” by a long shot. They’ll just quit covering her every move and mistake. They (MSM) would never actually “slam” her or speak ill of her, for God’s sake she’s royalty!

…..Sweet Caroline….dumb dumb dumb…..
Maybe uncle Ted can take Andrew Cuomo for a drive….
HornetSting on December 28, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Remember, New York City politics pits Democratic factions against each other to the point that you’ve got Cuomoites, Clintonites and other less-known factions who would have their own reasons not to suddenly give the Kennedys a major foothold in the state. So it’s a lot easier for the media to be unbiased here, because it’s not a “Democrats-vs.-Republicans” battle but an intra-party war, where it’s OK for folks at the New York Times to be against a Democrat (as long as they’re doing it for another Democrat).

So, according to Caroline Kennedy, all the qualifications you need to be a U.S. Senator are being a mother and an attorney?
tballard on December 28, 2008 at 1:45 PM
To be Palined she would have to have her kids and her vagina closely inspected by the media. They should also question everything anyone has ever said in her church. They haven’t even started making fun of this woman’s gun collection yet.
snaggletoothie on December 28, 2008 at 1:46 PM
I hope she gets appointed. It’s not like any other appointee won’t be a lackey anyway. She doesn’t have to think, her thoughts and votes will, and already have been given to her. That will be no different than any other appointee, nothing more than a rubber stamp.
The more people like her the Democrats appoint, or vote into office the better our chances become in 2010, and 2012.
Rode Werk on December 28, 2008 at 1:48 PM
Gack! Haysoos Marimba, Caroline induces the “snort..whaaaat?” reaction in me every time I see a new interview.
I’ve heard some seriously crazy shiite from politicians and wanna-bes, but…wow…she’s seriously odd.
Bishop on December 28, 2008 at 1:51 PM
So, according to Caroline Kennedy, all the qualifications you need to be a U.S. Senator are being a mother and an attorney?
tballard on December 28, 2008 at 1:45 PM
Well yes, being a mother is important. It wasn’t so important prior to November 4th, in fact running for high office as a mother of a youngster before the election was stupid and selfish. Now? Not so much.
Bishop on December 28, 2008 at 1:54 PM
… and a Kennedy. That’s the clincher. You know, those, you know, great Kennedy genes, you know.
Did I forget to mention that Princess Caroline is an Ivy Leaguer (Harvard, Columbia Law)? With a resume like that it’s hard to believe anyone even needs to question her about anything. And she co-writes books, you know.
What more, you know, do you people, you know, want?
progressoverpeace on December 28, 2008 at 1:58 PM
The most damning rhetorical question is: “With your 9-figure wealth, family name that opens any doors and 50 years on the planet what have you done? Now you want a Senate seat?
People like Caroline deserve an ambassadorship and all the invites to formal dinners it entails. She should leave the Senate to people who want to work for a living.
dedalus on December 28, 2008 at 1:59 PM
Well maybe she knows powerful people and can get things done in Washington. After all she is a Kennedy. That has to count for something.
kanda on December 28, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Listening to the video can lower anyone’s intelligence, which is an important part of expanding the base of the Democrat party.
The video was edited to make her look more intelligent by not also counting all the “umms”.
Right_of_Attila on December 28, 2008 at 2:10 PM
A woman was on Fox news and said she counted 195 ‘you knows”.
She also questioned if she wrote her book and said she only got into law school because of her name.
She seems to me to be as articulate as Obama without his teleprompter.
becki51758 on December 28, 2008 at 2:10 PM
Actually, according to the stopobamasmears website, the use of “umm” in conversation indicates deep thought processes at work. The more “umm”s uttered, the deeper the thinker.

Aw, let her have the senate seat. Her last name may be Schlossberg now, but she IS a Kennedy.
Then we can have a Stupidest Female Senator reality show, and she can go at it with Osama’s admirer Patty Murray and Barbara Box-a-rox for the title.

I’d trust Terry Bradshaw’s assessment of Caroline’s intellect more readily than Andrea Mitchell, another lightweight who married well.

A lot left over from Camelot. Which my French-English dictionaries tell me means “Trash”, “Rubbish” and that sort of stuff that fit her grandfather when he was chasing every bitch in England while his loving wife went to Mass every morning. And the sons inherited his genes. Camelot. Trash, Rubbish. Poor Caroline.

I’m having a difficult time trying to imagine her having a mildly stimulating dinner conversation, much less being appointed a senator. Seriously vapid and mind-numbingly B*O*R*I*N*G!
Kind of makes me wonder about the so-called value of a very pricey private prep-school education.

As a New Yorker ( as in NY state, there is a state above that leech of a city you know!) I shrug at her being considered. This is a blue state and it`s death spiral will continue no matter who Patterson selects.

I cannot believe that a college educated 50-year old adult would talk like that. She sounds like my teenaged niece talking to one of her friends: “you know, like oh my god!”
Hasn’t Princess Caroline spent ANY time at all with adults in the last 40 years?
UltimateBob on December 28, 2008 at 2:54 PM
I saw a video like this over on Sweetness & Light and thought I heard 15 umms. This could be off, since I missed some of the ya knows this one picked up.
So much for the big education and best selling books. Obviously, it doesn’t prove that she can speak publicly.
It is so presumptuousness to think she can just come out of her private life and get a place in politics when she didn’t do a thing to work for it. That sheltered life has led to a lot of naivety.

Given your impeccable language skills, I am at a disadvantage here. But I had it the other way around – don’t you suppose that the “skepticism, if not outright disdain” crept into the story because of Princess’s irritation at what must surely have been predictable and fair-minded questions from a couple of lefty NYT reporters?

My guess is that the socialite lettuce cup diet shrinks the brain. If she’d had more grilled cheese and fries over the last 20 years instead of starving herself to “perfection” she probably wouldn’t sound like a 12 year old.

uncivilized on December 28, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Caroline is proving herself to be both inarticulate and inexperienced. The press claimed that Palin was too, but Palin was able to deliver a knock convention speech, give the best stump speeches during the campaign, and perform wonderfully in her debate with a 35 year veteran of the Senate. It’s hard to imagine Caroline performing any of these things as well as Palin did.
Palin also spent 16 years in elected office and was one of the 50 governors of these United States — a club just as exclusive as the Senate. Caroline has never been elected to anything and has never had to work a day in her life.
At least Palin actually ran for the job of vice president. She never expected anyone to appoint her to it.
BTW, it looks as if Palin’s administration has ExxonMobil by the balls. Anyone doubt she’s going to get a successful open season on her natural gas pipeline in 2010? Has Caroline overseen $40 billion international energy projects?

‘Cause hey, there’s no such thing as a refund in New York politics.

My question is why does she want to be Senator of New York?
She is from the frigging left-wing liberal paradise known as the state of Massachusetts, and it is only a matter of time before her uncle Teddy The K is dead from brain cancer.
Why can’t she just wait in the wings to have the state anoint her to his place in office after he is gone? Which may be sooner than she thinks based on how he is doing right now.
pilamaye on December 28, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Great point. In a way I am serious. She doesn’t take care of herself. As funkychicken said you do need fat to think. She looks Anorexic or Bullemic. Not so much fake boobs, but she is old looking. I am in my fifties. No one believes it. I have pride in how my appearance is. She looks terrible. Haggardly to say the least. Society has made women feel that if they don’t have big hooters then a woman cannot make it in a career. That is the sad truth. How beautiful and how big the boobs are. Not how good you are in side. I have a hard enough time looking at Hillary, Michelle the ones wife, Boxer, Pelosi and Frankenstein. Makes me want to gag at how they all are just plain ugly. Inside and out. Now Caroline wants the spot light. Blah! think my breakfast don’t want to stay down! MEOWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I saw a video of Jackie Kennedy on the History Channel. The American people swooned for her, but as I watched the vid of her leading a White House tour or something, all I could think was “dim bulb.” She just droned on and on, with no expression or spark of intelligence, IMHO.
Poor Caroline didn’t inherit her dad’s smarts.

Excellent and spot on analysis comparison of Caroline and Sarah.
I would add that Sarah is like a diamond resting in a sea of campaign bubbles lifting her to the surface.
Whereas Caroline is like chamenbert cheese that’s well beyond its expiration date and beginning to show signs of some science experiment gone awry.
That’s so mean, you know, so this is what it’s like to think like a democrat.

But…she spouts the Democratic talking points well so she is held in high regard…

Shouldn’t that be the first indicator? Mrs. Alan Greenspan had the inside track on reporting the downward spiral of the economy (brought on in part by Greenspan’s policies) and yet the woman acts as if the economy was completely unpredictable.
Where is the proof that Mitchell knows anything about the “issues?” She’s just worshiping at the altar of the Kennedy clan despite overwhelming proof that Caroline Kennedy is unfit for the Senate. Which, while on that point, it seems to me to be more than a little disgusting to openly campaign for the job the way Caroline Kennedy has been doing. She shouldn’t be appointed for that reason alone.

marklmail on December 28, 2008 at 4:39 PM
Same can be said for RFK. I recently saw a speech he gave in 1968 while campaigning for the Dem nomination. He was, like Obama is, is an idiot when it comes to extemporaneously stringing coherent thoughts together. My prediction for 2009- Obama won’t be giving a single speech without somebody pumping the words into his mouth via teleprompter or earpiece. It’s the only way to make Obama sound more intelligent than Forest Gump reading the bumper stickers off passing cars.
