“And I am quite certain that when the final chapters are written and it’s clear that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq is gone in favor of an Iraq that is favorable to the future of the Middle East; when the history is written of a U.S.-China relationship that is better than it’s ever been; an India relationship that is deeper and better than it’s ever been; a relationship with Brazil and other countries of the left of Latin America, better than it’s ever been …
“When one looks at what we’ve been able to do in terms of changing the conversation in the Middle East about democracy and values, this administration will be judged well, and I’ll wait for history’s judgment and not today’s headlines.”

Assuming we aren’t destroyed by terrorists that just waltzed in over a wide open southern border, then history might judge him well.

She is a classy lady and I will miss her…….it also helps that she correct on most of those points.

I will be forever mortified that Michelle Obama is America’s First Lady. They need to come up with a new name for the Presidents wife.

Hardly comfortable for U.S. on Iraq’s SOFA
Here’s your hat, what’s your hurry — but since you’re still hanging around, why don’t you knot your shoelaces together and soak your head?
That’s the unsubtle Iraqi subtext to the agreement the United States recently and triumphantly inked with Iraq widely known as the Status of Forces Agreement, or SOFA.
Officially, the pact is titled “Agreement between the United States and the Republic of Iraq on the Withdrawal of United States Forces from Iraq and the Organization of Their Activities During Their Temporary Presence in Iraq,” but I guess AUSRIWUSFIOTATTPI is a hard sell.
Actually, the whole thing is a hard sell, or surely would be if Americans really knew that in the interest of a treaty, the Bush administration has gone so far as to trade away, among other things, some of our troops’ constitutional rights.
.
.
Has such a “duty” ever been written into a U.S. treaty with another country? Is it even constitutional? I doubt it. After all, the “duty” of United States Forces anywhere is to the U.S. Constitution alone, not to the laws of another country. Given that Iraq’s constitution above all enshrines Sharia (Islamic law), this would also seem to mean that it is now “the duty” of U.S. troops and other Americans in Iraq to “respect” Sharia as well.
.
.
Or, even more significantly, in Article 27, Paragraph 3, that “Iraqi land, sea and air shall not be used as a launching or transit point for attacks against other countries.” After all, U.S. bases in Iraq for just such potential actions against Iran or Syria were once ballyhooed as a strategic rationale for our prolonged presence in Iraq. But what about this new “duty” of American troops to “respect” the laws of Iraq, and even, in some circumstances, to be subject to them?
It all starts New Year’s Day.
MB4 on December 28, 2008 at 9:36 PM
Yeah. Assuming that. So the southern borders have had millions of people waltzing across for the last – what, eight years now under Bush, and how many attacks have their been? From these hoards of waltzing terrorists across our border 24-7.
You are an idiot. Thank God your form of thrutherism is limited to you and the few that also believe this BS.
wise_man on December 28, 2008 at 9:37 PM
Mrs. Laura Bush is, IMO, the most classy First Lady to enter the Whitehouse in my life.
Her generosity to this country and struggling nations has been above par at the least. Especially in the human rights area.
Yes that does worry my heart. But I have a much greater fear. We will have a “progressive” government with a propaganda wing called the press. It is strangely familiar to the reign of Hitler. I am not stating that this administration will be a replay of Nazism, but the way the press covers up and supports Obmama is eerily reminiscent of that government.
If you do not believe me, go read some history books, pre 2001.
lsutiger on December 28, 2008 at 9:38 PM
right. cuz that’s how the 9-11 hijackers got in, right?
that should be a new game: six degrees from “brown menace” hysteria.
the goal is to make the connection – no matter how tendentious – to anti-mexican nonsense, so as to cloak it behind actually relevant concerns.
the first card is… tort reform.
go! you have to tie lawsuit abuse to border-jumpers in six steps or less.

I admire this First Lady beyond any other I’ve every known. I believe she knows the “inner core” of the President better than any of us. I have never been ashamed or embarrassed by this First Lady or anything that she’s every said or done. She has experienced, along with President Bush, all the good and all the disgusting media distortions and the heartache of these past years of failures in human judgment and the outcome of Presidential decisions. They’re JUST people; but good people with the best interests of Americans at heart. I’m not sure I can say that of the up-coming President since the photo I saw of Obama reading “The Post American World”.
jatfla on December 28, 2008 at 9:41 PM
I’ve always thought that it would have been nice to be able to get to know Laura better than we did. She always seemed an astute and thinking woman who kept many of her opinions away(probably wisely)from the public. After it’s over, I hope she let’s the American public catch a larger glimpse of her but suspect not. As for Michelle Obama, I am prepared to give her much wiggle room as I think she has learned a lot from her campaign experiences. Whatever else and Obama Presidency may or not be, it will be interesting.
jeanie on December 28, 2008 at 9:41 PM
To think that our beautiful first lady will be replaced by the wretched Michelle Obama, who Dennis Miller so adequately described her as, “a long day.”
I will truly miss President Bush and Laura. They are truly a class act and will be remembered as liberators of millions.
I will always be greatful to our President for protecting our country and giving the finger to the liberals. He could care less what the jerks of the MSM and congress think of him. That is the caliber of a man.
Well, we have to endure four years of Jimmy Carter 2.0
Palin will be there in 2012.

Mrs. Bush good luck in all of your future endeavors. You are right on so many levels. You have been the perfect example of a refined and graceful first lady.
On another note Mrs.Obama has announced that one of the personal issues she will take under her wing is military spouses. I am one and have been one for 23 years. I am also originally from Ohio. Thank you Michelle for telling the women in Ohio not to go to work in corporate America.Even though thats a career that has been pretty lucrative for you and others. Thanks so much for complaining about how much you pay for piano and dance lessons for your daughters which pretty much equals the average income for people employed in Ohio. Dont bother Michelle Obama, please stay home and find excuses for you not to be at your husbands side unless it benefits you, like you did on the 9-11 anniversary. The press made excuses and said it was the first day of school and you had to stay with the children, but we found out later on that you werent even at home, you were in a different state holding a campaign fundraising dinner.
So much for class.

First Lady Laura Bush is correct, its not today’s

gawd Bush had the fortitude and balls to push these Jihadys
back into their caves,so to speak, where they belonged!
History will look back on the Bush Administration, and Bush

Laura Bush is The Classiest of First Ladies and EVERYTHING she says here is correct. Those here who have confused Issues of Immigration with Issues of Terrorism, and they ARE separate issues, have helped The Terrorists and The Liberals who Speak for The Terrorists in The Media SUPPRESS the Truth of the Presidency of George W. canditaylor68 on December 28, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Mexicans want to remain citizens of their home country while obtaining the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.
Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I, Mexico allowed German spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S.. During World War II, Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today, Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don’t believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.

That is naive, sorry to say. She was, is, and will be the Michelle O she was before they locked her up, to tranquilize and indoctrinate her, just in time for Denver. Since then, yes, they’ve restrained their worked-over product. You better believe they’ll keep her under lock for 4-8 years. Too much work with psychology to not know better. I really wish we could talk more. You’re constantly on a pivot – on the left you see idealism, because you’re young. On the other hand you wish to live freely because it’s harder, but way more fun. There’s an incredible sweetness in absolute freedom. Trust me on this one Terry, as you breathe. I tell you this from experiences in both lifestyles. We’ll talk more as time goes by.

That’s rather unfair to Terry Ann and I’m surprised, Miss E, that you would imply that because she doesn’t like it, she casting aspersion on anyone’s “real” “conservatism.”
I also find much (but not all) of the Michelle Obama bashing in this thread distasteful, but not because she doesn’t deserve it, but because the subject of this conversation should mostly center around Laura and George W. Bush.

It’s also an inept comparison, which April Orit and her leftie and a few rightie minions have happily, and cheaply adopted. It’s really a copout.
The rats over there happily skate on, or under, their slush, in their comfy latrine, calling GWB “Bushitler”, wishing him death, burning him in effigy, “he’s not my president”, “he stole the election”, and other assorted inaninties. When that happens here, point it out.
For example, when the left claims that Bush can’t communicate well, I’ll agree with them. On the other hand, when I ask “what on earth has Barack Obama done in all his life that is CiC experience worthey?”, I don’t think I’ve threatened his life.
Alas, just saying – I don’t really care what you wish to claim. It’s the nature of the net. Meh.

She has two beautiful daughters and a husband whose a good provider, she has two Ivy League degrees that she likely got due to affirmative action, she has a 200K job which doesn’t seem that taxing and probably allows her flexible hours, and she has her mom providing live-in daycare. Raise your hand if you would like Michelle Obama’s life.

Raise your hand if you would like Michelle Obama’s life.
Not for all the money (left) in the world! Michelle Obama’s life comes with enough bitterness to fill an ocean; She’s a mean spirited, arrogant, “victim” who will never appreciate all she’s been given by America.

Me! Me! I’ll take her place and she can take mine in the alley in back of the bar with just leftovers to eat none of which I get from the likes of mean people like her.

You were but please don’t leave. I love it when you’re here. It gives our raison d’être more intensity. Plus the release of endorphins is great.

I’ve always admired Mrs. Bush. She is as graceful as she is intellengent.
To bring Michelle Obama into the comparison I think is misguided and way too early to judge. We already know how proud Mrs. Obama is about her country, lets see how she fits into the role as First Lady.
The real comparison is Hillary as a First Lady. If there ever was a picture of a first family dysfunctionality, then I don’t know how anything would could compare than the Clinton’s.
We should at least treat the Obama’s a little better than the left treated the Bush’s. We do have a higher standard as conservatives.
Somehow though, I waiting for the quote ” That’s no First Lady, that’s mah Wife!”
