Hamas gets its war

The patience of the Israelis reached its end today. After taking more that 200 missile attacks in the past week, the IDF attacked every known Hamas security station in Gaza today, killing hundreds and wounding hundreds more. Gazans pledged resistance to any ground invasion, but Israel has not yet indicated when — or if — one will come:
Israeli warplanes retaliating for rocket fire from the Gaza Strip pounded dozens of security compounds across the Hamas-ruled territory in unprecedented waves of airstrikes Saturday, killing at least 155 and wounding more than 310 in the single bloodiest day of fighting in recent memory.
Hamas said all of its security installations were hit and responded with several medium-range Grad rockets at Israel, reaching deeper than in the past. One Israeli was killed and at least four people were wounded.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said “the operation will last as long as necessary,” but it was not clear if it would be coupled with a ground offensive. Asked if Hamas political leaders might be targeted next, military spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovich said, “Any Hamas target is a target.” …
But with 200 mortars and rockets raining down on Israel since the truce expired a week ago, and 3,000 since the beginning of the year, according to the military’s count, pressure had been mounting in Israel for the military to crush the gunmen.
Hamas made it clear last week that they wanted war. They announced the end of the so-called truce, although as the 16th paragraph in this report finally makes clear, Hamas and other affiliated groups had never stopped attacking Israel. They want to provoke a wider war and hope to get Egypt involved. The Egyptians opened the border to provide emergency medical care to the wounded and condemned the attack, but have not broken diplomatic relations with Israel yet over the attack.
The world should step aside and quit interfering in the war Hamas so desperately wants and will desperately lose if left to their own devices. As long as Hamas controls Gaza, a state of war exists, and cease-fires do nothing to advance peace, as this year has proven yet again. Tiresome calls for “restraint” don’t work when one side is determined to have war. The best way to resolve this conflict is to allow Hamas to have its war and get utterly crushed by Israel or overthrown by Gazans to avoid that unavoidable conclusion.
Hamas insists on a war of annihilation and won’t accept any other solution. Let them have it.
Update: Meanwhile, Fox needs a new headline writer, according to HA reader Roger B:

No mention of the 200+ rocket attacks Hamas conducted on Israel over the past week, or at least some hint in the headlines of the context of Israel’s response? Surely they can do better than that.

Airstrikes make the Israeli people feel good–something is being done to pay back the terrorists. However, “feel good” air strikes do not help unless they precede or support “boots on the ground” invasion.
***
After a generation of racist brainwashing there are no longer any innocents in Gaza–just more future terrorists. A total jihad ground invasion is needed–with summary execution of any terrorists or fighters. Think of the fall of Nazi Germany or our Civil War ending with Sherman’s total devastation march to the sea through the South.
***
Peace follows victory–it does not precede it. Sock it to the terrorists. Close off all escape routes first. No quarter–solve the problem once and for all.

December 27, 2008, 7:33 PM (GMT+02:00)
Israeli bombers hit Hamas’ film center in southern Gaza Saturday night, Dec. 27, after massive air raids destroyed Hamas compounds across the enclave leaving 205 killed, 330 injured and thousands of shock victims. The operation followed a week in which Hamas fired 200 missiles at Israeli civilian targets.
The Israeli Air Force planes struck Hamas security headquarters in Gaza City and compounds, police stations and ports. Several Hamas commanders were killed in the bombardment of a Hamas military passing-out ceremony. Among them was Hamas police chief Tawfiq Jabber.
The Israeli military spokesman said the Gaza operation is “just beginning” and would be expanded and intensified as necessary.

FoxNEWS is now at least as bad as CNN when it comes to misreporting events like this.
I turned to CNN early this morning and saw their report on Israel attacking Gaza. It took at least 5 minutes into the reporting that I viewed to hear CNN mention that Gaza had launched any missiles previous to Israel striking back. When they mentioned the Palestinian launched missiles they kept the number down to 200 and downplayed the “truce” that was really only “words” and not formal enough apparently for CNN.

I hear both sides about Gaza and Left Bank. One is that the ordinary people who live there support the militant groups, whether through fear or genuine feeling. Then I hear that they do not and that they’d like to get back to the business of life. Used to hear the same about Northern Ireland and the IRA and I always wondered, still do, where the truth lies and lay.

200 Hamas members killed – big deal.
There are 300,000 Hamas “activists” in Gaza and 1.5 million aiders and abetters. According to Bush doctrine they should all be killed to get meaningful results.
Aristotle on December 27, 2008 at 1:16 PM
Israel needs to annex a strip a few miles deep into northern Gaza. ANNEX – never, ever, ever to be negotiated over at all. And if the rockets don’t stop, then Israel needs to annex a few miles more. All attacks by arabs must be met with Israeli annexations of land. These temporary strikes in reaction do nothing of any great significance, since Israel is never willing to kill enough Palestinians to actually make a difference. Land must be taken .. and taken off the table. Period.
progressoverpeace on December 27, 2008 at 1:17 PM
Fox News is just barely better than CNN on a good day – and if Israel’s fighting, nobody in the press thinks it’s a good day.
The amount of slander and libel Israel has endured is mind-boggling. Think about being the one kid in school with no friends that every clique wants to target – that’s Israel.
They’ve shown perhaps too much patience with the fools that surround them. And every damned article on the subject should start with the 3000 missile attacks from Hamas, if only because the MSM hardly EVER brings the subject up – missile attacks every damned day, and they say nothing. Retaliate once, and it’s NEWS TIME!
You’d have to assume that the MSM is full of anti-semites or something.

You ask if FOX and other media “…can do better than that” in terms of their reporting of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Well, no they can’t, and no they never will. The reason is is that to them, though largely unstated, the Joos are the sons of apes and pigs. That is why they cannot do better than they do.

The leftwing press also fails to report that Sderot is home to many African Israelis (Jews) and thus the pfakistinians are conducting a racist campaign by targeting black Israelis by their missiles. I wonder how many leftwing jews and socialists are ok with caucassian arabs attempting to murder people of color (Africans) living in Israel?

This seems to come down to one thing “success”. Israel is attacked by the media and others because they expertly killed a lot of people, and Hamas fires rocket after Iranian rocket and doens’t kill a lot of people.
I guess, once they are really good at it the world will get behind Israel.
I hope the worlds # isn’t too high.

Iran has been playing coy about whether they will participate in any Gaza operation. If ever there was a move Iran could make to precipitate an Israeli attack on their nuclear installations, that would be it.
Though some will never acknowledge it, Hamas has given Israel all the justification it needs for this attack by rejecting offers to extend the cease fire–the one Hamas never really followed anyway.
The US will support a limited attack, but I wonder how far this administration will allow its support to go. I hope that the US does not hold Israel back from inflicting mortal damage on Hamas.

Someone needs to point out the obvious – there’s a big difference between genocide directed against an innocent and harmless minority and genocide directed against a unified and cohesive group that will never rest until either you or they are destroyed. Israel should pull the stopper out of the bottle.

“Cry havoc! And let slip the dogs of war.”
The Palestinian Arabs have shown what they intend to do with any land concessions. Gaza, once a thriving community of greenhouses and commerce has been reduced to a bombed out war zone good for nothing but launching attacks against the Arabs’ chief benefactors. Israel provides most of the food, medicine and energy to the Arabs. Israel should cease all support and demand that the Arab countries shoulder the burden of this monster that they, themselves, have created. The United States should do the same.

This has been my own thought as well. Every successive offense loses another meter or kilometer of territory, until the barbarians have pushed their own selves into the sea or some other poetic self-made oblivion.
To guard against cries of simple land-grabbing motivations, the newly confiscated security zones need to be completely salted, made an inhospitable wasteland, good only for separating the innocent from the barbarians, and for providing an innocent-free killing zone when the bad guys come calling.
God Bless Israel.

I hope they ignore the UN and the media and do what they have to do to secure their nation.
We would.
My problem is that I think this will cause problems in Iraq for us.
I see the Sadarist and other forces using this to fuel anti-Americanism,putting Maliki in between a rock and a hard place by supporting Americans(who support Israel)but needing to show the independence to support Arabs(who don’t support Israel).Possibly effecting the elections in the summer.
If there is one thing that brings Arabs together,it’s their hate for Israel.
Could get even worse if the Pakistan/India situation leads to an armed conflict also.We are already losing Pakistans help with the border in Afghanistan(what little help it is).

I think the UN’s corruption and appeasement of terrorist and dictators has actually increased armed conflict around the world.
This back and forth game with Iran,EU,and the UN has done nothing but give Ahmadinejad the time and cover he needed to have a bomb by next year.
This almost ensures an armed conflict between Israel and Iran or it’s proxies.
The Putin’s,Ahmadinejad’s,Mugabe’s,Saddam’s and many others can count on the UN to obstruct any real reform or action taken that would make a difference.
Besides handing out food, the only thing the UN has brought to other nations is pedophilia and rape.

Nothing will change until the world starts taking the advice several of us proffered at Captain’s Quarters years ago. We need to start fighting the war on terror from the top down not the bottom up. We need to remove the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Syria et al all on the same night if possible with cruise missiles. They have to be personally held responsible for their murder and mayhem. Whoever replaces them has to meet the same fate until the criminal enterprises they run are ended. After that we bitch slap Saudi princes about their Wahhabist financing. Schools and mosques funded by these folks get closed.
If that doesn’t work, then and only then, start working down the food chain. It worked with Qaddafi, it it will work with these cretins. If nothing else we won’t have to suffer the outrage of heinous killers being feted at the UN on their yearly shopping trips.
Not until we start clipping the leaders will we be serious about this war.

The “legal conventions of war”?? Huh?
It’s war. Civilians get killed. In huge numbers, usually – unless there is some war you are thinking of where civilians didn’t get killed in large numbers? You’ll have to refresh my memory on that one. We firebombed cities in the war that had the most complete and positive end, possible, as regards obliterating the threat from our enemies and turning our sworn enemies into some of our most trusted, most productive, most worthwhile allies imaginable – and for decades. It would be folly to rule out any of the tactics used in that “most successful war in history”. I don’t where your “war rule book” is, but we have a strategic nuclear arsenal, right now, and it ain’t for blowing up ships and military installations … you know.
Your problem is that you confuse a defense with a war. They are not the same. Defenses are for idiots.
And the label “terrorist” is not to denote the tactics used. It is merely a label for the enemy. That’s how things evolved, and how political correctness bent things. That’s life.
progressoverpeace on December 27, 2008 at 10:00 PM

9/11 Does that ring a Bell?

The real question is why we waste billions a year on this nonsense. We’re p!ssing away billions to the car companies and demonizing auto workers because they are greedy enough to want…gasp…benefits and because they are stuck under the leadership of corrupt aholes, yet not a peep for the yearly bailouts to Israel and the Palestinians who are stuck under the leadership of corrupt homicidal aholes.
Let them kill each other and stay the hell out of it.
LevStrauss on December 27, 2008 at 10:19 PM
They’re not killing innocent civilians outside of the legal conventions of war…we have a veto in the UN.
LevStrauss on December 27, 2008 at 10:20 PM
It was ruled by Britain and before that the Ottoman empire.
That was a uninhabited stretch of land, that no one wanted. Nomads were the only ones there. Israel fought back from being again attacked, in that time. They won the land fair and square. Where the hell are you getting your information? Killing off an entire population? You are a fool!
sheebe on December 27, 2008 at 10:22 PM
Those Israelis are such incompetents. Their version of genocide has the “palestinians” population growing faster than the Israeli population.
Some genocide.
You need to at least TRY to get some facts. It might–unlikely, but might–improve your comments.

So Jerusalem was an unihabited wasteland?
You are so misinformed it’s scary.
You just believe any propaganda that they tell you hook line and sinker.
No thought necessary..

I think your anger is misplaced:

Israel responded like Russia after being attacked.
Funny, this is not being covered:

Good luck Hillary.

I am not even wasting my time with your ignorance. It is obvious that you are missing a few upstairs. I don’t listen to propaganda like you. My family history goes back and I have many Jewish Relatives. My Uncle is a upstanding Professor in Israel. I also learned a lot from reading, and research. You are a crack pot. A bleeding heart. A waste.

Nice company you keep there, bud….

Israel responded like Russia after being attacked.
Thank you for the link. That is a tad crazy. It figures the Media here is not reporting this. We need to clean up the Media. There are also issues that are going on that are not being reported. Americans need to wake up. They are playing with us.

U.S. urges Hamas to cease rocket attacks on Israel
http://www.yahoo.com/s/1007944
Well, this was on yahoo news. Oh, but Hamas is innocent and Israel is killing innocent children! Not that they are tired of taking crap. And Israeli children have been killed by Hamas’s rockets. Oh how dare them!

I believe that he was saying Condi Rice needs to keep her mouth shut. She has no business telling Israel not to defend themselves. Our Country is so busy butting in other Countries affairs. They don’t even see what is going on in our Country! Israel needs to kick butt and not stop. I just hope they don’t. Because when The One comes in, they are on their own. I sure hope they realize this before it is to late.

Eff Condi, Eff Obahama, and eff Colitus Powell, Go Israel and kill every one of those POS and then whack boy toy Amadinnerjacket. Exchange one Jew murdered for 100 arabs lives and see how far their suicide bombers get them. Bleed them dry and save the rest of the world the hassle.
GlocknRoll on December 27, 2008 at 10:53 PM
I feel the same way. Love Colitus! LOL that is very creative and fits him well.
sheebe on December 27, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Followed by:
She should have said nothing. The cease fire was never real. It really broke apart (so that no one with a brain could pretend it was still “active”) well over a month ago. So, what is Rice talking about returning to? What she was happy with two weeks ago?
The jab about watching for “civilian casualties” (which was given by someone else from State, I think, though Condi usually does it, herself, is particularly stupid and pointless. Condi clearly doesn’t understand anything about the middle east and should not pretend that she does.
progressoverpeace on December 27, 2008 at 10:58 PM
So much for Dumbya’s legacy of peace in the Middle East.

Doncha love the smell of BDS in the evening??
Clearly what has failed in Israel vis a vis the arabs in Gaza and Jordan/WestBank is the assumption that the arabs want anything less than elimination of the state of Israel.
Bush did show the way in Iraq–kill the extremists without hesitation, negotiate respectfully with the moderates to create a 21st century state. Iraq is turning into the first Arab democracy. And Bush liberated 60 million human beings while he was at it.
Not a bad job, not bad at all.
