Hamas gets its war

posted at 10:15 am on December 27, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The patience of the Israelis reached its end today.  After taking more that 200 missile attacks in the past week, the IDF attacked every known Hamas security station in Gaza today, killing hundreds and wounding hundreds more.  Gazans pledged resistance to any ground invasion, but Israel has not yet indicated when — or if — one will come:

Israeli warplanes retaliating for rocket fire from the Gaza Strip pounded dozens of security compounds across the Hamas-ruled territory in unprecedented waves of airstrikes Saturday, killing at least 155 and wounding more than 310 in the single bloodiest day of fighting in recent memory.

Hamas said all of its security installations were hit and responded with several medium-range Grad rockets at Israel, reaching deeper than in the past. One Israeli was killed and at least four people were wounded.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said “the operation will last as long as necessary,” but it was not clear if it would be coupled with a ground offensive. Asked if Hamas political leaders might be targeted next, military spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovich said, “Any Hamas target is a target.” …

But with 200 mortars and rockets raining down on Israel since the truce expired a week ago, and 3,000 since the beginning of the year, according to the military’s count, pressure had been mounting in Israel for the military to crush the gunmen.

Hamas made it clear last week that they wanted war.  They announced the end of the so-called truce, although as the 16th paragraph in this report finally makes clear, Hamas and other affiliated groups had never stopped attacking Israel.  They want to provoke a wider war and hope to get Egypt involved.  The Egyptians opened the border to provide emergency medical care to the wounded and condemned the attack, but have not broken diplomatic relations with Israel yet over the attack.

The world should step aside and quit interfering in the war Hamas so desperately wants and will desperately lose if left to their own devices.  As long as Hamas controls Gaza, a state of war exists, and cease-fires do nothing to advance peace, as this year has proven yet again.  Tiresome calls for “restraint” don’t work when one side is determined to have war.  The best way to resolve this conflict is to allow Hamas to have its war and get utterly crushed by Israel or overthrown by Gazans to avoid that unavoidable conclusion.

Hamas insists on a war of annihilation and won’t accept any other solution.  Let them have it.

Update: Meanwhile, Fox needs a new headline writer, according to HA reader Roger B:

No mention of the 200+ rocket attacks Hamas conducted on Israel over the past week, or at least some hint in the headlines of the context of Israel’s response?  Surely they can do better than that.

It’s high time to end this once and for all. Diplomacy and concessions have failed. The UN is in it’s usual catatonic state. The only thing Hamas understands is a battle.

Give it to ‘em.

Put it in context? Come on now, the hackneyed “Cycle of Violence” meme only kicks in when the palestinians pull a terrorist assault that is so egregious, so inhuman, and so blood curdling, that even Reuters and the AP have an obligation to mention it, but only in the context of the “Cycle of Violence.”

What makes me mad is, they shoot missiles at Israel first. Then Israel has enough and fires back. Then MSM makes it sound like Israel is the bad ones. I hope that Israel kicks total butt. They have no choice. And I sure hope Rice doesn’t try to butt in again. If she does, Israel needs to tell her where to go. Israel must do something. Other wise the Muslims will not stop. Pakistan has soldiers already moving towards the India border. What is next? The One is not on Israel’s side.

Not going to happen. Israel will let itself be obliterated.

It’s noteworthy to me that evolutionary biologists insist that the determining factor of evolution’s direction is the “survival of the fittest.” And yet the fittest tribes on the planet today, western democracies and Israel, fall all over themselves and let bodies pile up before they strike back decisively.

I’m convinced there’s a counter force at work in evolution. A self-destructive dynamic that counterbalances survival of the fittest.

Again, for fit guys like us and Israel, we’re pretty much letting the bad guys in the front door and offering them our jugulars.

What the hell?

jeff_from_mpls on December 27, 2008 at 10:46 AM

Now Fox has pictures of Gaza with (graphic) WTF happened to Fox News? And then it says Arab Nation protests Israeli strikes. To hell with the Arab Nations. This is why it is imperative to get the UN out of our Country. This is why we need to be very aware. Look at who will be taking office soon. Who has Muslim in him also. I am pissed that once again Israel is being made the bad ones again. A war that has been going on for 60 years. They won’t be happy until they invade and own all of Israel.

Hamas keeps asking for it, let ‘em have it. Teach them that if they keep poking that dog, eventually the dog will bite, no matter how much we tell the dog to “stay”.

The task for Ed and all the New Media sources is to keep the impetus for Israels retaliation in the headlines.

The task for the IDF is to crush them swiftly, and decidedly. Do it now, do it hard. Learn from your mistakes of the last battle.

Fox News may be thinking if they show a Pro-Israel stance, the incoming administration will keep them out of the information loop. What they are not understanding is that Barry and his staff do not like them anyway because of Mr. Murdoch’s Conservative leanings and they fact that they did not engage in the idoltry of the rest of the MSM during the Campaign. So Mr. Ailes needs to go back to their original reporting style and not try to suck up to the new administration, because it is not going to work.

From the Jerusalem Post: Peres said

“Israel will take all steps demanded of it in order to stop the rocket fire,” Peres told the paper just hours before the operation began. “We will not go into Gaza. There are other ways – we didn’t leave Gaza in order go back.”

Now Even if you want to avoid an invasion is it a good ideal to broadcast it on the first day of your ops? And I don’t see how after all these years anyone can think that anything short of going in and getting these missiles and the factories/leaders is going to work.

Even with all the saber rattling last week, the Israelis sent in 40 and then another 90 trucks of humanitarian aid. Sort of defeats the purpose. Let Egypt or the other arab countries send in humanitarian aid. They don’t want to because it is better for them to make Israel look bad. And they are still illegally holding Gilad Shalit. Who is giving him his humanitarian aid or at least his rights under the conventions of war?

Christmas weekend — the main execs are off and the lower-level staffers are no doubt running the show (which goes back to ex-NRO editor John O’Sullivan’s postulate that any organization that isn’t openly right-wing will become left-wing, which is especially true for news organizations. It’s what Roger Ailes and his people have to watch out for all the time at Fox News, given how hard it is to find and hire journalism people who don’t lean left and won’t try to angle their news stories that way).

Steely defense and the use of force is consistent with behaving in a civilized manner. Civilization needs defending. It’s when we don’t care enough about our own civilization to defend it that our enemies become emboldened. And why shouldn’t they. If we don’t value our civilization enough to fight for it, why should they assimilate? Witness the Muslims in Europe.

So that’s what the IDF commanders meant when they said they had surprises in store for Hamas.

This was a long time coming. It’s not just because of the rockets either. It’s because of the Hizballazation of Gaza: the huge stockpiling of much more advanced rockets that have increased the threat to more of Israel’s territory, and the implementation by Hamas of Hizballah-style military tactics in Gaza. Hamas has strengthened while Israel enjoyed its short-term calm. And now they have to go vermin hunting. Get to work boys.

Agreed its just a matter of time before the lefties (pro-jihadists/dhimmis) and their muslim brethren start their usual wailings and demonstrations for “peace” on behalf of those poor terrorists in Gaza and denouncements of Israel as a bully.

I’ll give some credit to Israel, at least they’re not demolishing empty terrorist homes and are actually attacking the enemy (of us all). But until Israel and the West realizes that we’re in WW3 against Islam and it must be completely defeated, this is nothing but a hiccup and things will return to ‘normal’, that is the muslims will keep growing their numbers/forces/hatred and will keep picking us off one by one in their low-level war of attrition. Until they gain the strength to genocide us (like in Sudan) and there won’t be any ceasefires once that happens.

If you say stuff like that,it just confuses the pre-planned narrative. The media’s job and purpose is to present the spin. When the facts support that, they’re included too. In the short term, it’s a very winning strategy.
