Woman who’s never worked: I’ll work twice as hard

No, sorry, that’s not fair. Remember when she had that job with the NYC Department of Education that she, um, never showed up to?
Two interviews today after weeks of silence, both aimed at quelling the comparisons to Palin as a pol afraid to face the press. The AP met her at a diner — she ordered grilled cheese with bacon and a cup o’ joe, we’re told, in case you doubted her proletarian bona fides — and wrung this out of her, which captures the “logic” of her candidacy quite nicely:
“Many people remember that spirit that President Kennedy summoned forth,” she said. “Many people look to me as somebody who embodies that sense of possibility. I’m not saying that I am anything like him, I’m just saying there’s a spirit that I think I’ve grown up with that is something that means a tremendous amount to me.”
Hereditary mystique, in other words. Precisely so. As for her chat with NY1, Ben Smith has the full transcript. My favorite exchange:
Dominic Carter: Might you have any interests higher than the US Senate? I mean, might we see a Caroline Kennedy on the ticket someday?
Caroline Kennedy: (Laughs) Now, well, can we just, you know, get through this, like, you know, right here now? I mean, you know.
I won’t blame you if you don’t have the patience to read the whole thing, but at least skim it to catch the difference in tone between this pattycake session and, say, Charlie Gibson’s session with Palin. Or better yet, watch the highlight reel below and see for yourself which soundbites NY1 thought were killer enough to showcase for its viewers. Palin got a pop quiz on the Bush doctrine and Princess gets questions on what she thinks of J-Lo and what John-John would say if he were here now. Think Dominic Carter was excited to land this interview?
If the Senate seat doesn’t happen, there’s always an ambassadorship. Jonah Goldberg’s already getting in the spirit of things. Click the image to watch.

I heard she’s never voted either.
jgapinoy on December 26, 2008 at 8:36 PM
She’s the perfect choice for this senate seat. A woman with no accomplishments of qualifications for the job, replacing a woman with no accomplishments or qualifications. This makes perfect sense to liberals.
Tommy_G on December 26, 2008 at 8:43 PM
That J-Lo answer she gave just blew me away!! (sarcasm)
This is all a joke right? I have more qualifications than this woman!
goldeagle11 on December 26, 2008 at 8:45 PM
Let her have it. She’ll make great fodder for us on the Right for the next few years. It’s not like we’ve got any chance of getting a Republican in there.
So, why not have a little fun at her expense.
ericdondero on December 26, 2008 at 8:47 PM
Liberal sense, does not make any sense to the real world.
It is all about hope and change and feelings.
F15Mech on December 26, 2008 at 8:47 PM
She really thinks she deserves it!

The spirits she grew up with are in Uncle Teddy’s suitcase flask.

Well, by actually working, I suppose she will be working twice as hard as she used to.
SuperCool on December 26, 2008 at 8:50 PM
JFK was a complete failure in foreign affairs. The only thing he did right was a tax cut today’s liberals want to forget.
Right_of_Attila on December 26, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Entitlement… its a bitch.
And to think her father said “Ask NOT…”
cannonball on December 26, 2008 at 8:52 PM
I’m not a J-Lo fan, but I did think her comment about J-Lo was condescending.
Skimming the transcript made me kind of ill. She has never had to go out and mix and scramble for anything and it shows up in her cluelessness.
INC on December 26, 2008 at 8:52 PM
She will work very hard to feel a pea under eighty mattresses rather than just her normal forty mattresses.

I read a suggestion on NoQuarter that made sense, kinda. Obama should name his gal Caroline Ambassador to Great Britain….much more appropriate roll for her experience.
gracie on December 26, 2008 at 8:58 PM
C’mon….Ya know Sweet Caroline has as much experience as PEBO. What’s the big deal anyway? Let’s print some more money, call Al Queada for lunch & a chat and build some bridges and broadband towers.
Let the good times roll, The Dems are back in town!
Tim Zank on December 26, 2008 at 8:59 PM
I was amused at Jonah’s take on sending Caroline to London to be as the Ambassador to the Court of St. James. It would be interesting to see the media try to bury the facts about her grandfather.
INC on December 26, 2008 at 9:00 PM
The Kennedys are moderately good-looking bucktoothed congenital idiots who always seem to need brain transplants from either smart Jewish people or Ted Sorensen.
TexasJew on December 26, 2008 at 9:01 PM
Seriously, it’s New York.
They deserve this kind of representation.
A Schumer, Stitzer, Clinton, Paterson, etc… type democrat she says she will be.
Myopic are the voters in New York. They see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred, like their politics they see the bling on the hand but can’t see the empty in the suit or pant suit which ever the case maybe.
With myopia, the eyeball is too long, or the cornea is too steep, with New Yorkers the brain is too small and the mouth too big.
After all they border that foreign country called New Jersey.
Kini on December 26, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Grandpa Joe Kennedy had the priviledge of representing us as Ambassador to GB. FDR pulled the rug out from under him after he made a few favorable comments about Hitler.
fogw on December 26, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Yes, but you and I don’t. As a senator she can affect me in Indiana and you in Hawaii. We don’t deserve that.
Tommy_G on December 26, 2008 at 9:06 PM
No problem there fogw. Understood & well-taken.
journeyman on December 26, 2008 at 9:07 PM
How’d you like to be worth $100M and not know what to do with yourself or what you’re good for?
Caroline the Clueless.
gracie on December 26, 2008 at 9:08 PM
For all of her elite education, Caroline Schlossberg doesn’t sound either intelligent or articulate, you know?
What’s with the head bobbing?
onlineanalyst on December 26, 2008 at 9:09 PM
but since it is Kennedy … I will just take this seat
joey24007 on December 26, 2008 at 9:10 PM
I just read most of the interview. She says “you know” in every other sentence. She’s definitely not the most articulate person.
terryannonline on December 26, 2008 at 9:11 PM
I don’t know what work or even knowing the issues has to do with being in Congress anymore. If it creates more government, cost a boatload of money we don’t have and ultimately does more harm then good, pretty much every Democrat will vote for it and sadly most Republicans.
lowandslow on December 26, 2008 at 9:14 PM
Surely Dick Cavett will write an article on Caroline – “Discursive Discourser from Downtown”
CarolynM on December 26, 2008 at 9:19 PM
Yeah, I agree and that’s my sarcasm showing also.
Elections have consequences.
Kini on December 26, 2008 at 9:20 PM
Wouldn’t Caroline be the perfect fit for the senate seat vacancy in Illinois? After all, it was all the strings Joe pulled with his mafia friends and union thugs in Chicago who put Jack Kennedy over the top in the 1960 election.
Why not let history repeat itself, since nothing much has changed in Illinois politics in the last half century.
fogw on December 26, 2008 at 9:21 PM
Wow, I think I’ll try that line at my next job intervew:
“I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’ll work twice as hard doing it.”
Stephen Macklin on December 26, 2008 at 9:23 PM
She doesn’t use proper grammar at all! You know? Geez, then she is ashamed of her voting record. That is a crock. She is not qualified to be a Senator. Of course, most of the Senators are not qualified. She might fit in then.
sheebe on December 26, 2008 at 9:28 PM
These Palin references, with respect to Kennedy-Schlossberg, are just more swipes at Gov. Palin. Don’t people ever get tired of this cr#p?
Kennedy is an unaccomplished loser who thinks that she was born to rule, as do many of the brain-dead liberals. To compare her to Sarah Palin, who is a totally self-made woman, is just ridiculous. This junk about Sarah Palin having “hidden from the press” is also a crock. Maybe, if people were trying to be serious, they would compare her with the idiot messiah’s 3 easy question “press conferences” or Crazy Joe Biden’s being put in a lockbox from the press. Now, those would be decent comparisons.
This obssession with insulting and denigrating Sarah Palin is just downright sick, and more than tiresome.
progressoverpeace on December 26, 2008 at 9:33 PM
What are the Kennedy mob going to do when all of JFK’s aides have kicked the bucket? Those are the people who’ve been writing the Kennedy “legacy” for almost a half a century now.
Sad to say, some of them will also write Dubyah’s “legacy”. In fact, JFK toadie Arthur Schlesinger compared the evil Bush’s actions in Iraq to those of the Japanese Imperial Navy’s attack on Pearl Harbor.

there should be a panel like in College Football where a state would receive the “Death penalty” depending on their choice for representation in D.C.
If Kennedy is chosen … they need to get the death penalty
no senators for 12 years and lose any federal funding for 4 years
joey24007 on December 26, 2008 at 9:42 PM

Cicero43 on December 26, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Hey, be nice to Caroline. She comes from a family where the dad slept around, one uncle was a drunken murderer, the other uncle got sloppy seconds, a poor pilot for a brother, and a mother that became a gold digger.
/you know it’s true.
john1schn on December 26, 2008 at 9:43 PM
Heh. Now that there’s funny!
john1schn on December 26, 2008 at 9:45 PM
People have VERY short memories when it comes to JFK. They forget his father’s perfidious influence in launching his son’s career. They forget voter fraud in Cook County IL that helped get him elected. (Hey, that’s where Chicago is. Who knew?) They forget the Bay of Pigs. They even forget that he’s the one who escalated our role in Vietnam, if only because it’s easier to blame Nixon, who did more to get us out than any other President.
What they remember is the hero for which they longed in a leader. But real leadership is not mere cosmetics. Reagan was no less telegenic, but he had substance. What he did NOT have were a bunch of children and nephews who felt entitled to every scrap of good fortune within their sphere of influence. Caroline is guilty of no more than being like the rest of the clan, with one difference; she showed up a little later to the entitlement party than the rest of them.
Will the Governor of New York tell her the party’s over, or will he leave it to the people of New York?
manwithblackhat on December 26, 2008 at 9:50 PM

Being a Kennedy means you can’t be written off as a typical white person.
PA Cat on December 26, 2008 at 10:06 PM
I have nothing personal against Caroline Kennedy, but the problem I perceive is this sense of entitlement with the Kennedy Klan that will not go away.
It is truly sad that some voters will vote for a Kennedy simply because they are a Kennedy, in a futile hope of resurrecting the mythical ‘Camelot’, which is eerily like those liberal leftist libtards that worship Obambi.
Neither a Obambi or a Kennedy are the end all to save all, but some voters are (and have been) stupid enough to believe the hype…and for that idiocy, America suffers.
Gothguy on December 26, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Didn’t help Hilary none. Guess it depends who you run against. If Sharpton were being considered, Kennedy would be a typical white person. Absent a black candidate, she’s fine.
Love how it pisses off the Cuomos. They’re saying “hey we love minorities and gays too. What’s wrong with us?”
JiangxiDad on December 26, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Instead of Britain, perhaps the Messiah should send her to France. Then the Messiah wouldn’t be embarrassed by Princess Caroline’s grandpa’s unfortunate Nazi ties and anti-Semitism and Princess could spend her time shopping and attending various celebrity events
Illinidiva on December 26, 2008 at 10:17 PM
The fixation on JFK is absolutely creepy considering his foreign policy. Frankly, the same liberals celebrating Kennedy now would have been burning him in effigy if he had won reelection (which was likely) and presided over the expansion of the war in Vietnam (also likely).
Illinidiva on December 26, 2008 at 10:22 PM
What is worse is the fixation by modern liberals and Obama drones on Lincoln
they think Bush steps on the Constitution ….

No problem w/what you said except about brother Joe being a poor pilot. Do a little history check before you post. He was on a secret mission w/a bomber completely loaded with high explosives. The two pilots were to bailout over England and the chase plane would use primitive radio control to guide it to the target. Shortly after launch the plane exploded in mid-air killing both pilots.
From what I have read brother Joe was probably the most decent Kennedy.
arnold ziffel on December 26, 2008 at 11:29 PM
No, Obama is replacing someone with qualifications. If Caroline replaces Obama, then you will have the analogous situation.
unclesmrgol on December 26, 2008 at 11:33 PM
What ever gave this woman the idea that she should be a Senator? Fancy the rest of us starting out looking for our first job(at 51) and deciding that it should be as Senator? If it weren’t so awful to contemplate it would be really funny, the stuff jokes and farces are made of. If SNL is looking for material, this should be golden. But… Is the contempt that this turn of events has precipitated being kept from her or is she so naive politically that she doesn’t even suspect how terribly unsuited she is? Doesn’t seem to bother her that her only qualification is that she is a Kennedy.(and some of us out here regard that as a dis-qualification)
jeanie on December 26, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Deep down, I believe she knows she doesn’t. Someone else is pulling these particular strings. As someone said in another thread on this subject, someone is trying to roll out The Anti-Palin.
