Video: Michelle rips Bush for revoked pardon, subprime crisis
posted at 1:37 pm on December 26, 2008 by Allahpundit
Ten minutes from Fox & Friends this morning, the first half of which is spent curtsying to Queen Caroline and paying final tribute to Bush’s “better national security through open borders” policy. Skip ahead to 6:00 for the meat of it, a back and forth on the disgraceful, now-rescinded Toussie pardon. Did you know that he’s been out of prison for years now? Or that he pled guilty, freely and fairly, to the charges against him? Or that there’s a class-action suit with 400 plaintiffs stemming from his mortgage chicanery still pending against him in federal court? Or that normal protocol meant his pardon shouldn’t even have been considered until next year? Or the fact that his dad dropped $28,500 on the RNC just eight months ago, a fact discoverable via a routine search on Open Secrets? Somehow this was all either unknown or irrelevant to the White House until after the pardon was issued. No wonder 75 percent say they won’t miss Dubya. I wonder if the boss is one of them.
The obvious, yet somehow tragically unasked exit question: Would she support a pardon for Ramos and Compean? Hmmm.

It remains to be seen what Bush will do about the case you mentioned, but those men were convicted by a jury. I doubt if all the jurors were in bed with Mexico.

I heard that Bush asked Maliki to consider a pardon for the shoe throwing journalist.

I do have principles and what is more I voted in the last election. Did Michelle? I was under the impression that she was not sure she could sully herself with a vote for McCain. Beneath her dignity.
Do not assume that because I disagree with you or Michelle that I lack principles. Believe it or not that sort of self righteous sanctimony does not make people respect you.
The truth is Michelle was more outraged over Katrina than Spike Lee. She pretty much accused Bush of trying to sell ports to terrorists so that they could kill us all. And her attitude toward immigration was so extreme that she could not bring herself to support hardly any Republicans running for office. And yet she complains about liberals and Democrats. I am sorry, but that just seems strange to me.
Add to that the fact that Michelle has never had to actually run anything, she has no real experience with port terminals or border security or immigration enforcement and apparently has no intention of running for office and doing anything about any of that stuff herself.
Sorry, but I have just kind of gotten tired of a lot of that kind of posturing. Where exactly has it gotten us?
Terrye on December 26, 2008 at 10:43 PM
her attitudes about immigration are not ‘extreme’ rather practical and honest.
given that most republicans are just as bad as democrats about immigration…whats to support for the republicans?? if they don’t start advocating radically different policies than the democrats, why vote for them??
its gotten us victory…its only when republicans become ‘moderate’ they lose…but hey you got your boy mccain…that hero of the bend-over moderates….and you LOST big time…keep up with the ‘moderation’ and ‘practicality’ and see where it gets the republicans…

Seems to me that people have gotten way too sensitive. Also, there’s a bunch of unwritten rules floating around that run counter to the first admendment. There’s a real movement, somewhat succesful I might add, to make certain words illegal, if not written in a law book then societally enforced with a guilt trip. Reminds me of totalitarianism: something well defined in the book ’1984′. In discussing Newspeak, Syme, a comrade of Winston Smith declares:
‘It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and
adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn’t only the synonyms; there
are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some
other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take “good”, for instance. If you have a word like
“good”, what need is there for a word like “bad”? “Ungood” will do just as well — better, because it’s an
exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of “good”, what sense is
there in having a whole string of vague useless words like “excellent” and “splendid” and all the rest of
them? “Plusgood” covers the meaning, or “ doubleplusgood” if you want something stronger still. Of
course we use those forms already. but in the final version of Newspeak there’ll be nothing else. In the end
the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words—in reality, only one word’.
He also observes ‘that Newspeak is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?’. The elimination of words is, to my mind, the beginning of changing the past to control the future. As to the word ‘nigger’. Sometimes it’s the perfect word.

No, it has not gotten you victory. Bush got you victory. Bush was just fine when things were going well. We did not hear MM or anyone else say Boo about immigration during the 2000 and 2002 and 2004 campaign, if it was such a matter of principle that they get their way or the country got the highway…where were they?
I tell you what, when MM can back a candidate and he can actually win a primary then she can claim to speak for the party..until then it will be the Republican voters who decide.
Terrye on December 26, 2008 at 10:51 PM
And it is not just the Republican voters. Elections matter, they really do and Obama got 66 million votes. There were 6 million fewer Republicans who voted, my guess is the ones who stayed home were pouting. If so, they helped elect Barack Obama and a Democratic Congress. Forgive me if I find their protestations of moral superiority and principled dissent to be so much garbage.
Terrye on December 26, 2008 at 10:55 PM
because bush didn’t make amnesty a center of his domestic strategy until after 2004…we actually hoped he would enforce the law…with the same zeal he enforced the war on terror, you know since an open border just invites terrorists to cross it…
well you republicans keep on nominating people like mccain…and see how many victories you get….
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:00 PM
I want to thank President Bush for keeping us safe these 8 years. He does not get enough credit for how hard that must have been. I thank and salute you for all you tried to do for us and keeping out country from harm.
I’m in agreement with both Terrye and terryannonline. I think MM and Rush are prerry dopey.
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:01 PM
after 6 years of spending like drunken sailors the difference with mccain the republicans would have been??????

right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Dude, calm down. I didn’t say I was above anyone. that is a pretty far stretch. As for being on her blog, i didn’t know my free speech on a open forum offended you. Too bad…
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:05 PM
you’re calling her names…’dopey’ you apparently don’t think you are dopey, just her…so you are above her by not being ‘dopey’
I think its rather rude and presumptuous, and lacking manners and taste, to insult someone on their own blog!!
amazing.

<blockquoteJesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:05 PM
free speech doesn’t offend me, crassness and stupidity does.
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Seriously? You are concerned about such a mild word as “dopey”? I somehow doubt she really cares what I think. Nor should she. I didn’t say I wasn’t “dopey” in some things. No one is perfect and if I said I was, then I would be putting myself “above her”.
I think you should relax just a bit. Maybe this internet thing isn’t for you if a little criticism offends this much.
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:16 PM
I’ve been doing this ‘internet thing’ since the internet was around…get a clue.
you’re right about her not caring what you think…add me to that category..
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:18 PM
OHHHHHHH!!! WEEELL – that makes ALL the difference, doesn’t it? — NOT!!!
…..I’m sorry – I didn’t understand that you were illiterate, terry……..
grtflmark on December 26, 2008 at 11:21 PM
You must have cared, you responded. No one asked you to. If you don’t want a discussion, then don’t get invovled. Pretty simple eh?
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:21 PM
actually I enjoy making people like you look stupid…not that you need any help….
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Well said. It’s too bad that more people here don’t get it, and were part of the problem. They contributed to Obama’s victory as much as Obama supporters. And who do they blame for their actions? Why teh evil Juan McAmnesty, of course.
wise_man on December 26, 2008 at 11:29 PM
You know, it’s pretty funny. I stated something about Bush that I felt doesn’t get said enough, and the only thing you locked on was what I said about MM? If I needed a useless troll to flame me, I would’ve said this at DK.
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:31 PM
well my friend it was pretty obvious mccain didn’t want to win. supporting the bailout and all….why vote for obama-lite??? when you can have the real thing?
mccain has proven to be a real piece of work, the way he threw palin under the bus…glad he didn’t win.
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:31 PM
I didn’t know I was required to respond to every point of yours…guess you have a problem with free speech…perhaps this internet thing isn’t for you…
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Actually it does make a difference! It means that the L.A. Times was using a term he didn’t coin and he himself probably wouldn’t phrase it that way.
terryannonline on December 26, 2008 at 11:33 PM
but he did didn’t he? a distinction without a difference…no one forced him to write that article now did they?
but its OK, he’s a democRAT, they can say whatever they want to, and its not racism, or anything…ask biden about Indians and 7/11….
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:35 PM
or was that dunkin donuts?
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:36 PM
McCain really was the best candidate the GOP had out of a pretty sorry bunch overall. Any of the others would have done even worse given their flaws.
McCain is the only Presidential candidate I can think who ran towards the center during the primary and then to the right in the general election, and that says volumes about the current dysfunctional state of the GOP. Maybe he thought Palin was a good idea but she wound up being a liability with the voters McCain and the GOP needed to reach out to, and as a result states like Indiana and North Carolina went Democratic.
As for amnesty, it’s a tough call but one thing for sure is that a party which actively pisses off Hispanics with it’s strident anti-immigrant message isn’t going to gain ground in a demographic it has to do better with to be competitive.
starfleet_dude on December 26, 2008 at 11:37 PM
You are correct, you don’t have to respond to every point. How about you try just the important one that was stated first? Maybe reading comprehension is also not your thing..
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:37 PM
why? because YOU say so? you really are a legend in your own mind…
but a lack of manners, and appreciation for your host who is providing you this forum, is obviously your ‘thing’.
so you’re all for free speech, as long as someone else is paying for it…you sound like a good democRAT
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:43 PM
oh yeah supporting the bailout is ‘running to the right’ huh???
right4life on December 26, 2008 at 11:44 PM
I’ve come to learn that a lot in politics has to do with tone. I think Michelle’s tone when discussing immigration is quite negative. You can have disagreements but you have set the right tone.
terryannonline on December 26, 2008 at 11:44 PM
Wow, so now I’m a Democrat? Maybe you will throw in a little Hitler while your at it. If MM doesn’t want me here, I would always leave. So I guess I should make my own blog before I get to have an opinion?
You can’t be serious right?
Jesse on December 26, 2008 at 11:49 PM
True, at least McCain didn’t indulge in Hoovernomics after grandstanding with his faux campaign suspension and all. Then again, he was faced with President Bush being for the bailout also, plus the fact that both Paulson and Bernanke were for it. Which made his trying to wrongfoot Obama on the subject impossible, as well as a waste of time.
starfleet_dude on December 26, 2008 at 11:50 PM
You’re right. The Rush Limbaugh wing of the GOP seems to think it’s a virtue to be insult artists, but it’s just dumb politics really.
starfleet_dude on December 26, 2008 at 11:51 PM
I think we can all agree that Bush’s pardon shouldn’t have happend? I’m not real sure what the point of it was.
Jesse on December 27, 2008 at 12:02 AM
you’re an idiot.
wise_man on December 27, 2008 at 12:05 AM
I hope you are ready for a long night of flaming. I know I have had to endure my share. :|
Jesse on December 27, 2008 at 12:14 AM
you’re the idiot for supporting that old LOSER. and if he would have won, he’d have thrown people like you under the bus in a NY minute…cause thats who he is…
glad mccain lost…and you moderates are a bunch of losers too!!
right4life on December 27, 2008 at 11:38 AM
he could have run against bush/obama, and wall street bailout…he’d have won the race…but he’s a big-gov liberal, like bush…and they both want nothing more than the government to grow.
talking about blowing a golden opportunity…but thats mccain…
right4life on December 27, 2008 at 11:40 AM
McCain is over…done….gone….finished…..He is a non factor…..He chose Palin and then threw her under the bus when she couldn’t carry his sorry ass over the finish line…..The guy has a pair of Donkey Balls….
norryrr on December 27, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Way to go, Michelle! And good riddance to this president.
Drum on December 27, 2008 at 1:04 PM
I usually am in agreement with Michelle on most everything, but how the heck is it Bush’s fault that he was unaware of all the facts surrounding the pardon? He expects other people to do their jobs properly, including the processing and fact finding on possible pardon recipients. That ain’t Bush’s fault.
jediwebdude on December 27, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Stop. Obama got 69 million votes, McCain 59.
A Axe on December 27, 2008 at 6:59 PM
Tacky move by MM, imho. I think President Bush is being subjected to enough bashing in his last few weeks, without conservative pundits piling on. Out of respect for him, and frankly Laura, let up already. This stuff is accomplishing nothing constructive.

Feel BETTER, now?……..Yeah – I didn’t think so……
grtflmark on December 27, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Bottom line: Bush rescinded the pardon after being apprised of the facts. Not exactly like Clinton pardoning Marc Rich on his last day in office.
Jeanette on December 28, 2008 at 2:10 AM
Who’s fault is it?
Any leader that blames his troops is unworthy of the post. Ironic, but that sums up GW’s greatest accomplishment and worst failure.
In spite of errors made he was and is a great CiC. He is respected and loved by the bravest among us. But from putting an AQHA lawyer in charge of FEMA to making Schumer’s pal Hank Paulsen the Sec. of Treasury his domestic administration has been a disaster. The buck stops on his desk for good and ill.
rcl on December 28, 2008 at 6:39 AM
You’re not qualified to SPEAK about the Office of President, let ALONE JUDGE the Presidency of George W. Bush.
The ARROGANCE of your post is galling.
When you have been in the position to be responsible for one-TENTH of the lives that Bush has been, THEN we MIGHT listen to your mindless yammering.
grtflmark on December 28, 2008 at 9:59 PM
I wish I could live in an ivroy tower like Malkin. It must be nice for her to live in a world where she has to do nothing but whine about others. Does she even produce anything substantial? I’m sure the hired help will defend her but your arrows should be laced with some information on what this woman has actually done besides comment on other’s actions and run a couple web sites.
grdred944 on December 29, 2008 at 11:49 AM
A leader does have to know how to fall on their sword. Bush has always taken responsibility for his actions. To say that his changing his mind and having to write the decision off to having gotten bad advice/information from subordinates is bad leadership demonstrates a lack of understanding of what a leader is. On the contrary, he showed excellent leadership skills by showing that he knew how to rectify that mistake.
My original point was that Malkin is so not qualified to make this judgment call and made herself out to be this small, petty person by whining about this.
Bush, for all his faults has been a great leader for this country. I have disagreed with much of his fiscal policy but the man did keep the country together over a very decisive eight year period when things could have truly gone south.
Malkin, on the other hand, has done little but find new ways to offend as she knows she has placed herself in a position where her paying gigs demand absurd commentary in exchange for face time.
